speaking of how respect plays into tyler & kate's dynamic. i feel like what makes tyler such a good romantic lead is that, even when he's talking down to kate in the beginning, you never get the impression it's because she's a woman.

contrast tyler with scott. scott is constantly condescending to kate: second-guessing her every decision despite being miles behind her in field knowledge; undermining her professionally (negating her attempt to network with an investor); calling her javi's "girlfriend" as if javi's deference to kate is a lapse in judgment. he's not cartoonish about it, but his contempt for the situation is pretty obvious. he resents being made subordinate to a woman with no legitimate way to question it.

then you have tyler. we expect him to be a classic case of cowboy machismo, misogyny and all -- and it's true that he doesn't fully respect kate in the beginning, but it's because she's riding with stormpar. and even then, it's clear how badly he wants to respect her: initiating conversations with subtle cues to reveal her priorities ("our crew's not like your crew"); talking shop with her; straight-up asking if she knows how stormpar makes their money, and then still checking on her when they part ways in anger. he's not threatened by a female stormchaser -- he sees a kindred spirit in her, and his feelings move from fascination to real attraction when he sees they have their principles in common, too. it's insanely refreshing to see.

Obligatory “I don’t have a problem with CaitVi” but I think, for me, their story (separate from their own personal character arcs) would/will be more compelling if it ends up being irreparable between them.

I think Arcane is good at subverting expectations and tropes; the most memorable example I can think of is in S1E3 where Powder follows after Vi and the boys to save Vander. We’ve all seen the “friends are in trouble, but the plucky young hero comes in at the nick of time to save them against all odds” plot twist—but Arcane subverts that. In fact, Powder’s involvement and her monkey bomb finally working is the thing that, tragically, leads to Claggor and Mylo’s death, Vi’s injury, Vander’s death(?), so on and so forth. It worked, but it didn’t work. And to me, that's the tragedy of it. That good intentions weren't enough.

So, personally, I see a setup between Caitlyn and Vi: the Romeo and Juliet archetype, two initially-begrudging people working together amongst classism and prejudice, and finding companionship against all odds. Class, wealth, opportunity separates them; Caitlyn is a scion of one of Piltover’s most influential and powerful families, and Vi is… a nobody from the Undercity, wrongfully imprisoned, when they first meet. It’s a way for them to both see that the “other side” isn’t as bad as they’ve always been told. That there are Good People on either side of the bridge. That, hell, love can be found, too.

But oftentimes, I believe this trope in particular ignores a lot of the real-world factors that could come into play with a friendship or relationship that “defies” station. The fact is, Caitlyn does come from a world of privilege, and Vi is treated differently by Caitlyn’s peers. The whole of Season two, Vi has been referred to as one of the “good ones”. Maddie explicitly says that it's good to know that there are still "good ones" around. The implication that you’re not like them. Time and time again, Vi is treated like an Other. A “good” other, but an other all the same. She's welcome in Piltover, but only just - and only when Caitlyn vouches for her. And at the climax of their story thus far, Caitlyn outright says to her, “I keep telling myself that you're different. but you're not. It's [Jinx's] blood in your veins”. I'm sure grief and anger are a part of why she says this, but that's becoming a catalyst for the discrimination she seems to be steadily believing in more and more. Whether or not she ends up meaning this, it's a ghastly thing to say.

And with the way things are developing with Caitlyn, who is actively weaponizing her privilege and power, and who is very quickly going down a very dangerous and fascist path, I don’t know if their relationship could — or should! — be rectified. She's a cop, and a very privileged one at that. I don’t know if this is a love that could “defy all odds”, and in my opinion, I think it would be more interesting, and more compelling, if it didn’t.

always funny to me how active tsukasa is in every one of mafuyus birthdays (he says menu lines, he gets lines in the bday card) and they has like never had a meaningful conversation. he’s just like “ah rui and emus friend. must celebrate birthday” like bro you barely know her. rui and emu have both had like serious conversations with her and are in the list of people who can tell something is up and Are Quite Concerned meanwhile tsukasa doesn’t know this woman and is like “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASAHINA 🥳 🥳 🥳 🎉 🎉 “

yknow thinking abt i think a reason why caitvi esp caitlyn felt kinda underdeveloped this season was because this season focuses less on the piltover/zaun conflict and more on the problems with the arcane and hextech and what not. which is. Fine. but also it means caitvi is gonna suffer.

bc like. without the whole piltover/zaun conflict in the backdrop the relationship kinda falls flat???? like it feels like they set up this whole arc with the whole "its so easy to hate them" thing cait says and her becoming a puppet fascist that they didnt do a whole lot with??? she was working with and presumably doing shit with ambessa but a lot of that was glossed over in the timeskip.

and then the whole sex scene like on one hand yay sesbian lex but on the other it felt so. forced????? like jinx just told vi that she was suicidal and then locked her in a jail cell for hours and vi was helpless to stop her. and then cait shows up and then they just. have sex.

like i think they were going for like. comfort sex vibes ig but it then not come across that way??? idk on one hand im happy we got the caitvi sex scene but also its like. they did it in the oddest way ever.

idk im still figuring out my feelings bc theres stuff im happy with in this season but i feel like they really fumbled the ball in a couple of areas, not just caitvi and caitlyns arc but i feel like those two got hit the hardest besides Mel's Whole Thing bc. god. mel. ill have to make a seperate post abt her bc the writers really fumbled her arc and i think its bc of the new noxus show thats supposed to be coming out which. Is A Choice.

From my notes....... like to me Sharena is projecting a little bit, here. She's frustrated with Veronica not only because of her behavior, but because if SHARENA EVER acted out anywhere NEAR that way. Maybe there would be severe consequences. Maybe it's something Sharena makes an effort to correct, within herself, before any consequences can catch her. And yet. Despite all that. Sharena still has moments of attitude and dare I say, Stubbornness, too.

Maybe it's bc the bg3 companion banter is, for me, very much a "go girl give us nothing" situation but I enjoyed most of the da4 companion banter. DA:I remains my fave but Veilguard was never gonna beat it the game was rigged from the start

Bad news: as it is now, I don’t think it’s possible to start a romance with Astarion if you don’t sleep with him in act 1. It would be really nice if they added something, like in the conversation about bodily autonomy, it would be fairly easy to have a variant of that dialog that mentions the seduction part didn’t quite work out, but there are other ways to manipulate someone. Then it could continue on mostly the same as the current romance scene. Kinda strange there isn’t something already considering it seems like other romances can begin in act 2. This could be a bug that gets addressed later, or it could be an oversight they didn’t plan for. Regardless, it would be a neat ace option to have.
