vastly prefer MANY THOUGHTS over the usual brainfog  still vaguely thinking of allura’s ending but in a damn i want something allura-centric with hints of sheith way because I am greedy like that and know i gotta write it myself smh like,,, after THAT ending whenever I see KL or CS its usually an UGH reaction stemming from the shit fanbase and obvs because I ship SK  but all the KL and CS I see gives me a STRONG impression that they are more L and C stans over K and S respectively, what with aggressively brotherfathering keith and shiro’s strong canon relationship/making br0ganes feel like canon KL and fanon KL more like canon SK/making L some godly ASK hybrid with flirtatious L tendencies with K as some generic emo waif/turning C into a K expy and S into ~~space dad~~ etcetc.... with SK it feels like there’s more of a 50/50 keith or shiro stan behind it and so i feel like both characters are equally loved for who they are in some form /biased (of course there are the rare SK fans that hate on keith for ~stealing~ black/the leadership position but i’ve muted most of those)  in that same vein I don’t have as strong of an impression of AL and LA aside from being the most common background ships for sheith so I don’t know if there’s any fan leaning towards one character there. not sure how AL fares on its own but LA still has some strong fans i think esp since lotor’s VA is very vocal on loving them. (the m/f fans sure have it nice...) i guess the m/f lotor stans prefer LA but the allura stans??? ((i guess SA/KA? but that’s another can of worms)) and along those lines...is there any allura fic....based more on her character than a ship.......... that meta just made several !!!!!!!!!! go off in my head like THIS THIS IS WHAT I WANTED but also with ending thoughts included (dammit i gotta write it myself part 2)  tried filtering ao3 to give me smth more allura-focused but even cutting down on all ships just got me a wall of ‘what if K storyline BUT WITH L or P’ hhhh GIRL I WILL ATTEMPT TO WRITEDRAW YOU A HAPPY ENDING THAT ALSO MAKES ME HAPPY BUT FIRST GOTTA PREP FOR BIRTHDAY BOY

a/n: sorry guys i have written in a while ive been soooo busy atm so hopefully i can write more for you guys. its been a minute since ive written for vld and i so totally miss it esp my cuban bby. yes we all can agree it ended like poo but thats why moi is here to help w canon and make it a thousand times better bc im a miracle worker duh. ty guys fr for reading my stuff, following and reblogging my stories i really appreciate it. 

It was in order- in your mind to take time off for yourself. Getting up every morning at 5 to train hard your mind and body. All you wanted was one day to enjoy having fun and being a teenager. 

You giggled at your pathetic bucket list. To think on yours it would say go out to a mall or market when back on earth that was something so insignificant and so easy to accomplish. But you hadn’t done something exciting and something for yourself in a while. 

You practically begged Shiro to let you to go to the mall today. After much butting he finally gave in. You knew pouting your lip out and whining almost like a puppy would do the trick. 

You didn’t waste time in getting dressed and doing your makeup. You wanted to look fierce on your day out. 

A knock was heard on your bedroom door. 

“Where are you going?” Lance, your boyfriend raised his brow as he stood by your doorway, arms crossed. He was a bit jealous that you were going out looking so hot and you hadn’t invited him. 

“I’m going to the mall,” you applied lipstick. 

“Without me?” He pouted. 

You chuckled and went to hug him, squeezing hard. “What are you waiting for then? Get ready? We’re having a date.”

Going into the mall- it already made a huge smile on your face. The smells reminded you of home. Food, perfumes, creams, the clothing were of different colors and of different alien races customs. It was like a walking into a whole different world. 

Lance giggled as he saw your face and scooped you up, kissing all over your cheeks. “Aw, you’re so cute, you know that. What do you want to try first?”

You sniffed the air and couldn’t get rid of a cinnamon smell. As you went onward you saw what that smell was. 

“Doughnuts!” You were almost salivating. Grabbing Lance’s hand you raced to the stand. 

You and Lance shared a huge doughnut and Lance smudged some frosting onto your face. You tried pushing him away and all he did was tickle you. It was like a fight and as much of a flaco he was he still got a hold of you. 

“I’m gonna get you Lance,” you gave a hearty laugh. 

You climbed on Lance’s back and ordered him like a pony to go to the arcade. There were so many games there your eyes lit up with the bright neon lights and colors. 

“I want to try this.” It was a game of getting a hammer and hitting mini Prince Lotor’s. You and Lance were up against each other and of course you won. 

“You cheated,” Lance pointed an accusatory finger at you. 

You stuck your tongue out, “you just suck.”

Lance rolled his eyes and walked away pretending he didn’t know you. 

You guys hopped on a motorcycle game, Lance went first and you jumped in his lap and he taught you how to play. 

Next, was the perfume store. You bathed Lance in cologne as he twirled around, and rubbed himself on you. 

As you were walking onward you spotted a swim suit store. You were fighting with yourself if you should go or not because you were a bit shy around Lance but you decided to go because you would probably never come back again. 

“Let’s go in this store please,” you asked shyly. 

Lance didn’t want to show it too much but he was so excited to see how beautiful you would look in swim suits, especially bikinis. He saw how much you wanted to go in and he couldn’t and would never say no.

“Of course gorgeous,” he smirked and acted all charming. 

“You sit here and wait,” you pushed him onto the couch in the waiting room and fled to each aisle, picking up the ones you wanted. 

The store owner waved her tentacles around and glanced at Lance, “are you here for you?”

“It’s actually for my girlfriend.” He said proudly. “She’s special.” 

“Alright Lance,” you sang as you brought them in the room and tried one on. “This one I call Florida weather.”

You jumped out and the one piece had oranges on it. You modeled and pretended to peel an orange and eat it. 

Lance clapped and nodded his head, “that’s so cute!”

“Next!” You shimmied your way in the room again and put on a swimsuit that was adorned with a skirt and it was bedazzled. It looked so trashy and made for a grandma. It was the furthest thing away from sexy. You chuckled as you looked at your reflection. Lance was really going to love this. “What do you think about this one babe? I think this will be your favorite.”

“Let me see girl!” Lance bounced on the souls of his feet in anticipation.

“Tada!” You danced out, shaking your hips. “My name is abuelita.”

Lance was surprised to say the least but he clutched his stomach, bending over laughing. “Oh my God, you do!”

“Do you think this is flattering?” You strut your stuff and flung your leg out like a show girl. 

“I still think you look great sweetheart.” Lance grabbed your hips and kissed your lips.

Lance was the perfect boyfriend to you. Even though you looked like an old lady from the 80s, Lance thought you still looked perfect and that made you have fireworks in your tummy. He always knew what to say. “Alright, but I got one more!” You ran back to your room and lifted up the dark blue bikini. Was your body perfect? No. Did you care? No. You thought you were beautiful in your size and no body was perfect. It was for you and Lance loved you no matter what. As you pulled the straps up, you checked yourself out in the mirror. “Perfect.”

“Are you done baby?”

“Yes, I think you’re going to really love this one.” The beating of your heart was rapid as you thought of his opinions. Would he like it? You tiptoed out of the room and rubbed your arm sheepishly. “Do you like it?”

Lance was flabbergasted. Not because he never thought you would look that way but because of how perfect and beautiful you were. He was star struck. His eyes widened and shined bright like jewels. His mouth was wide open. His heart grew more large for the love he felt for you. You were his baby! 

“Well!” You crossed your arm, beginning to feel shy and bashful at his loss for words. 

Lance covered his mouth, “And I have the audacity to live.”

You shook your head as you giggled like a girl with her crush. It was kind of true he was your crush but he was also your boyfriend so you scored. Lance was so extra!

“My baby is so sexy oh my God!” He shouted so loud- everyone in the store glanced over your guys way.

“So this one is a buy?” 

“Heck ya! I’m buying this for you babe. You look so smokin in this like por tu madre, my girl gonna look good!”

As you both were walking out to go back to the ship. It was night time already and the sky was a dark purple. The stars looked like diamonds sprinkled on a painting. It made you have a warm feeling in your tummy to know that you were one of the many brave souls that traveled up there to save lives. The air was cool and the trees swayed in the wind. 

Hand in hand with Lance, you walk on the cobblestone, trying to balance as you place one foot in front of the other. The wind that blows by makes you shake and shiver. Goosebumps rise on your skin and Lance takes notice. 

“Baby, you’re cold?”

You didn’t want to seem weak so you shook your head. “No, I’m okay. Just the wind.”

Lance looked the other way, shy, as he stripped his jacket off and enveloped you in the warmth. 

You loved cuddling with it, the soft inside fabric tickled your cheek, and it smelled of his perfect self. You tried to hug the jacket subtly without his detection but Lance saw and became a bashful mess. You bit the inside of your cheek, not looking into his eyes because of your embarrassment. “It’s so warm,” your lips turned into a small, satisfied smile. 

“It looks amazing on you,” Lance said breathless. 

“Oh wait!” You paused as you sprinted to an open field.

“What are you doing, Y/N?” 

After a few minutes you ran back to Lance. 

“What did you do?”

You brought out a daisy, kissed it, and gave it to Lance. “A present for you, my Lance.”

Lance couldn’t contain his love for you. He lifted you up and twirled you in his arms. “You are defiantly my girl.” He put you on his back as you both traveled back to the ship. 

On his back, you hugged him tightly, nuzzling into his hair, kissing the back of his neck. “I love you.” You whispered your heart and soul into his ear. 

“I love you princess.” Lance kissed your hands as you started drifting off to the rocking of his steps. His breathing a peaceful melody in your ear. You needed the day to get out and have fun and just be you with Lance. As the day was ending your smile became wide as you thought about how perfect this day was and it was with the most perfect boy.

AND LONG I’M SORRY. 

I took notes with a pencil on paper like the old-fashioned person that I am. Also I binge watched all 13 eps without any breaks so my thoughts might be a bit all over the place. But, let me try to organize them a little bit.

Allura x Lance

we gotta start with this shit.

I mean no hate, if you ship this then great, this is just my opinion.I respect your ship, you respect my ship. (I totally just wrote shit. Oops.)

it felt too rushed. like why make all of that happen in the first episode and then forget all about it for a few??!

it was too soon, like i didn’t really think it would happen? they should have had a little more waiting time before going all oooh allura totes said yes to a date with lance, like where did that come from??

allura has been paired with a lot of the male characters throughout the seasons, and I HATE THAT

let her be a strong female character without a love interest goddammit

yeah that is actually my main problem with allurance. like, wasn’t she just kissing lotor a while ago? and then she had her moments with keith? and first was shiro in the very first season i could tell they were thinking of making it a thing

ugh

that first kiss was so ugh i actually gagged too much romantic for me

that was not a grammatically correct sentence i am sorry i am an english major but it is just past midnight

i get that this show is aimed for a younger audience, but show some connection between the couple before they become a couple and after??

yeah i just don’t like this ship

also they were SO CLICHE at times (ep11... the ending...)

iiiii’m not sure how i feel about her still being alive and being this season’s main villain

but i guess it makes sense since it’s the last season and all

they didn’t really have enough episodes to make a fully new villain

i really really wanted lotor to be dead and stay dead i mean he had his seasons now it’s momma’s time in the spotlight i mean what

honerva having guardians to protect her thoughts and memories reminded me of inception in some way

i liked the old paladins being there? it felt appropriate 

little lotor was cute

and when he said she’s not his mom? yass alternate lotor do some good

honerva was a little predictable tho? like in the end esp. when she couldn’t have what she wanted she was like ‘the no one can have anything’

but of course she turned good and helped in the end

i don’t like multiple realities things in anything

it’s a cool theory but it usually doesn’t do it for me in books / movies / etc

How did you discover the show?

i heard that studio mir was animating it, and as i love both legend of korra and dreamworks, i decided to check it out.

Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the show?

i watched the first episode, and thought it was pretty good, but i wasn’t invested until episode three of the first season? episode two gave me a ship i latched onto really hard in shiro and allura, obviously, but episode three was the first hint at shiro’s backstory and that forming voltron wasn’t going to be the automatic solution to saving the day, which i liked. then in 1x04 “fall of the castle of lions” i saw the show wasn’t afraid to have the world go wrong all around its characters and have high stakes, so then i was sold.

Do you have a favorite episode?

anything shallura, shiro, or allura centric, basically, but here’s some season from season.

season one: 1x01 “rise of voltron,” 1x04 “fall of the castle of lions,” 1x09 “crystal venom,” 1x10 “collection and extraction,” 1x11 “the black paladin season two: 2x03, “shiro’s escape,” 2x07 “space mall,” 2x12 “best laid plans,” 2x13 “blackout” season three: none bc it was a shit season fight me season four: 4x01 “code of honour,” 4x02 “reunion,” 4x06 “a new defender” season five: 5x02 “blood duel,” 5x03 “postmortem,” 5x04 “kral zera,” 5x06 “the white lion”

Shiro, ultimately, but only the teensiest tiniest bit more than I love Allura.

the black lion bc she deserves to be happy and the red lion bc she’s just trying to keep her idiot child alive (and yes all the lions are girls to me i’m always so taken aback whenever any of them are referred to as a boy, ESP the yellow lion vld can rip this headcanon out of my dead cold hands)

Do you have a favorite villain?

Haggar. I love her magic and design, her betrayal of her people and her obsession with quintessence. I was always fascinated by how much stronger she seemingly was than Zarkon, yet she served him as an advisor anyway, plus her having been the one to experiment on Shiro kept her as a deeply personal threat in s1, rather than Zarkon’s more distant presence, I guess? I also find Zarkon and Lotor very interesting of course, and I adore the dynamic between all three of them in all its messed up, back-stabbing glory, but yeah, Haggar’s my fave.

Do you have a favorite Alien Race (Recurring and/or minor)

Alteans, Balmerans, and the Galra. I love the first two for their growing culture and values, as well as aesthetic. I’ve never seen an alien race designed like the Balmerans before, and I love elves, so self-explanatory. I love the Galra for the different variations for their race, and I would love to know more about how their culture works.

Favorite side/other character(s) - Rebels, Generals, Blade of Marmora, Garrison, etc?

Shay and Axca. I also have a soft spot for Kolivan.

How/Why did you join the fandom?

I joined the fandom because I had found A Relationship to latch onto. Sometimes I enjoy relationships more lowkey, but I’m not interested/invested enough to seek more things out for them -- ie. Jake and Amy from B99. But when I do get attached, it is Fast and often extremely dedicated. What Relationships (both shipping, and brotps) catch my fancy can fluxuate, as a couple with the tropes I love might enrapture me and another one may not and there’s not exactly a rhyme or reason to it (maybe chemistry or stakes?? idk) but yeah, Shallura was definitely one since 1x02, “Only Shiro is in uniform” and by the end of s1, I knew I was done for. I just had to find my people, then.

Care to share your favorite headcanon?

Well as previously mentioned: the VLD Lions are genderless bc they’re not humans, firstly, and not alive, just sentient. Allura’s mother knew Coran and Alfor also loved one another and she was cool and comfortable with it. Shiro was raised by his mother and grandmother, his father having been a war hero / pilot who died in an accident when he was little. I also headcanon Shiro as bi, Allura as pan (or at least, the closest word we’d have for it), that Hunk has two moms (one’s a cook and one’s an engineer). I also love the idea of Haggar having been the cousin of Allura’s mother, but I think that will undeniably stay fanon only? I still love it tho.

What do you think is the best part of the show?

I think Shiro and Allura’s relationship is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. The animation from Studio Mir is always stunning, and the soundtrack really blows me out of the water. I’ve also really enjoyed the team as a whole found family group, and I adore all and any of Coran’s relationships, and Pidge and Hunk’s friendship <33

Any hopes and wishes for future episodes/seasons?

With s6 around the corner, I’d love / know that Operation Kuron is finally going to come to light, so that’s squared off. I’d love a bit more backstory for Shiro, and more information about Haggar’s druids because I find them fascinating. For Allura’s mom to have a name, and I think it would be really cool to have an episode, once the team is back in their original Lion lineup, to have either Keith or Lance be sick and have to sit a mission out, and have Allura take the helm of the Blue Lion again as a one-off.

Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?

Probably. Even if VLD does something that will make me drop it completely as Canon, ie. either Shiro or Allura (or any of the paladins, really) dying, or Shiro not being permanent BP, I’ll still watch and check in from time to time, just to see what enjoyment I can take from it. I mean, I’ve made it this long, and we all know bc Shallura are Idiots if they’re going to be canon they’ll only become so in the last episode. Plus, I really have been enjoying VLD again the past few seasons and I’ve missed that feeling, so I’m very happy rn with where the show is, even if it still isn’t perfect. So, long story short: I’ve been in this fandom since June 14th, 2016. I ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Thoughts on s6~

Putting it all under a cut because I can’t not talk in lengthy paragraphs. Feel free to shoot an ask/message if you want to talk about s6, too

Ok wowie, good season. There were noticable weak points, but I’ll address those along the way. First let’s talk about the 

Plot

It was good. It was surprisingly good. The hidden altean thing where they bold faced put that Lotor was responsible for hundreds or thousands of deaths teeters way out of kids’ show territory. They were not fucking around with that. The fact that they made it clear that the plot was not just paladins vs Galra (esp with Lotor wanting to do away with the Galra), but more along the lines of paladins vs lotor vs generals vs sendak vs so on and so forth makes it not just more complex, but stacks the odds against voltron and adds good suspense. Clone shiro was incredible. It was everything i’ve been waiting for. 

The fight scenes, inside and outside voltron (cough cough KeithvsKuron) were breathtaking. Everything about Krolia was very well put together. THE ANIMATION WAS BREATHTAKING. 

On that note (and dipping into characterization a little bit), they kinda layed it on thick with Lotor romanticizing Allura. He was too goody goody and it made the betrayal lose a little impact (aside from the whole mass murderer thing). there’s a difference between that and foreshadowing. 

Idk why the huge timeskip with Keith and Krolia stuck on that mission bugged me a little, but it did. A timeskip makes sense and is a cool tool to use for the fam to get to catch up, but it just felt. Strange. Two years is a long ass time. Keith was completely unaffected seeing the team again. One could argue that this was bc of the mission, or Krolia teaching Keith how to be a member of the blade and have Super Mission Focus, but still, for Keith to have that much almost-off camera development and not be at least startled to see voltron again was weird. I love my mom to pieces but two years alone with her and eventually I’d go a little nuts.

Characterization

That last point brings me right into characterization, and unfortunately this one is gonna be a little more on the critical side. For the most part, characterization/character focus was well balanced this season. But there were some Moments.

Everyone on team voltron developed, and it was arguably best executed this season than any other. We got to see some great Coran moments, where he really felt like a member of the team. Hunk having a no-nonsense teacher, even just for like 15 minutes lol did him good in terms of communicating with their new allies. Hunk is a people-person, and it shows very well. His camera time wasn’t 100% food related all the time, in fact, barely ever. Bravo.

Pidge of course got her own arc, but it was still a GREAT moment when she admitted to having the coding on Shiro’s arm uploaded and on hand just in case. It was CHILLING when she made eye contact with Kuron before he took off. This is, imo, how Dreamworks should’ve handled other characters who didn’t quite have the spotlight in previous seasons. Not a whole lot of moments, but when they were there, they had impact. I hope they continue to do this.

Do I even need a section for Keith? Holy shit. My boi finally accepting his role as Black Paladin and so much more. :’) I won’t elaborate because c’mon, it was in part, a Keith-centric season

Same for Allura. She really is the heart of Voltron. We got to see a lot of sides of her. 

Lotor being a psycho bitch but still having genuine feelings for Allura?? good shit

LANCEY LANCE. Bless him, Dreamworks is doing their best. In terms of his relationship with Allura, seeing him going from meaningless flirting to serious heart to hearts and a team player was fantastic. BUT I have some grievances, here we go.

Lance got a mini-arc and it was great, and he very clearly grows and changes, this is great! However, regardless of ships, seeing it centric to a romantic relationship, and basically being a rebound for Allura was ahhhhhhehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh eh. 

Pidge and Hunk teasing Lance about his crush was normal, and them pretending to be Lotor and Allura was adorable and hilarious, but Lance was really hurting and when they didn’t stop and just walked out, I???? What. That, to me, is out of character. Hella out of character. Lance is their friend, and they should be?? Friendly??? I was mad @ them

Finally, as much as I love broganes and the great arc they had, they’ve had a tremendous amount of camera time. We’re well away that they’re practically inseparable. What I really wanted to see was the whole team being involved with finding out about Operation Kuron. With Lance seeing Real Shiro in the astral plane, I was really on board with him pulling aside Keith when he came back and be like “ey dude I saw some fucked shit”, and them rescuing Shiro together was a theory I was personally super into. Was kind of disappointment that we didn’t see the relationship between Shiro and the other team members deepen a little more.

First of all, daaaaaaamn that Allurance.

I’ve shipped allurance for a while now, more casually than other ships, so to see Lance change and mature and support Allura while Allura started to show that she really values Lance meant a lot to me. It’s good to see Lance grow up a little. For everything that they were this season, forced was most certainly not one of them. Their relationship felt organic.

However, it was not without flaws. I can’t help but feel like Lance was treated like a rebound, and was almost too? supportive??, and it was telling when Allura was talking with the mice, upon them snITCHIN ON LANCE DAMN MICE, she frowned sadly. I have to wonder if she actually returns his romantic feelings. And I do like the ship a lot, casually and aesthetically. But at the end of the day, what I was hoping to see was a really solid friendship. I think from here they don’t need to be straight up romantic. Their relationship is no doubt one of the strongest in the show, but I think it would be an incredible writing path to keep their friendship, because allurance has been hinted since episode one, and I think it’s almost?? Too easy for the writers to turn it romantic. I think Allura and Lance are a great team and very compatible for friends, but uhhhh read on.

I’ll just address the elephant in the room and come clean, yeahhhhh I like klance and yeeeaaahhhhh I would have really liked to see some more content this season, so sue me lmao. 

If I’m gonna be really blunt about my feelings, I feel like klance is a fantastic direction for Dreamworks to take. I feel like it would be good writing to make klance endgame. Why? Because it’s the path of least resistance. That’s why so many people like it. Keith and Lance were so salty at the beginning, but the crew made an effort to show that in moments that were particularily tough, they have loads of potential and can be very good for each other, romantically or platonically. It’d be harder to write, it’d take time, but I think it’s a worthwhile pairing. And there are definitely some moments that are super disruptic to both Keith and Lance’s development when they, Lance especially, straight up regress in their development and fight for no reason. I think it’s unfair, and it almost always makes me go “wait I thought they were starting to get along better??”. Now that Allurance is a thing, I’ve stated in another post that, because it would be strange for Lance to have two romantic arcs, it’s pretty unlikely that klance will actually happen. Do I think they teased us? Yeah. Do I think they straight up qbaited us? Not really. In the end, my biggest hope is that they continue to develop Keith and Lance’s friendship and don’t abandon the really strong potential they have together. Don’t let them regress, Dreamworks.

I’m not gonna address she/th (or tag it, because who goes into the tag looking for someone to say IM NOT A FAN OF XYZ JUST THOUGHT U SHOULD KNOW) too much because I’m personally not a fan. There’s so much about their relationship associated with “brothers”, and Keith looking up to Shiro that it just doesn’t rub me right in terms of romance. I had to wonder if they aged Keith up two years to justify possible future she/th?? if it happens I’ll be bummed, and I think the random aging up is kind of a cop out, but hey, it’s their show.

RIP Lotura. I stopped shipping it and figured out Lotor was a hoe after his third Dramatic ‘Let’s Bring the Universe Together’ Speech to appeal to Allura’s sense of duty. It’s a shame tho, I was really digging it at the end of season 5

Wondering if you could answer a VLD ? 4 me: I got real into the 1st season & I LOVE the garrison 3 esp hunk (my sweet boy) & ESP Lance (jokers who hide real pain r my jam). Made it partway thru the 2nd but kinda dropped off bc it was getting real kieth & Shiro focused & I don’t super resonate w those characters & now 90% of the VLD stuff I see are those 2. Do G3 partic hunk & Lance get their time in the sun? It is worth watching on? Or r they relegated to one-off episodes & the comic relief stil

this answer has spoilers for s2-6, since you haven’t seen them! i’m going to assume you know what’s been going on if you’ve been following voltron on your dash, but if you haven’t and you don’t want to be spoiled, send me another ask and i’ll answer spoiler-free.

it’s been a little while since i’ve seen s1-5, so based off my admittedly vague memory and a brief scan through the episode list, i think more focus is given to lance, hunk, and pidge when they end up switching lions. pidge gets a lot more screentime and character development for sure when the arc with her brother comes to focus, and lance ends up really stepping into his own when he becomes the red lion’s pilot and the literal and figurative right hand man of the black lion. hunk has some nice shining moments too, particularly in s6, but i think he often gets overlooked out of the whole cast in general. (he might tie with coran actually.) the food jokes have tapered off some though, which is great. 

it does stay pretty heavy on shiro and keith, then later allura and lotor, through the seasons. if those characters and the overall story aren’t compelling enough to you, i’m not sure if it’d be worth going through all 6 seasons to find those bits of lance and hunk and pidge that you’re looking for.

s3 was literally just a group therapy session and exposition dump with some action thrown in and s4 was just rapid fire plot over and over and over with maybe 1 episode’s worth of breathing room. it gave me whiplash. i’m actually glad they split this into half-seasons bc i dunno how people woulda handled this amount of weird pacing

i know a lot of people (including me lol) were upset allura didn’t get to be black paladin after shiro disappeared but honestly? seeing her in blue and bonding with blue and just being a paladin doing paladin things alongside the rest of the team WITHOUT having to carry the burden of leadership constantly was... a breath of fresh air compared to the first two seasons

it’s like they’re moving away from showing her as this ethereal being of pure light who is above such trivial things as trauma & instead portraying her as something vaguely human

also RIP all the fanfic of allura not interacting with the paladins ever, you will not be missed

speaking of not missing things, i honestly wasn’t too sad about keith being absent from a majority of s4

like i don’t hate keith but lbr he’s just the white boy protagonist who falls into success by having the right connections and has respect and plot relevance handed to him on a silver platter. he’s gone from the team now so @ s5 Prove Me Wrong but the keith-centricism that made me hate s2 still seems to be spreading across the series like a viral plague

So my feelings for this season. Overall I loved it. Yes, some parts were very angsty, but we finally got answers and good team bonding and interaction.

-I loved how allura and lance got closer this season. idk if they become canon or not, nor do i really care. it’s a great bonding experience for them and it’s so soft and cute and im happy.

-im pissed that lotor was a turn coat ;-; like i expected it considering we knew how well spoken he was and how good he is at deceiving ppl. but it still sucked. and seeing allura’s heart break was sad.

-keith came back!!!!!!! and that binch best stay back, but i missed his face and him in general. tho i am very glad he got those 2 yrs to bond w his mom and grow as a person. he’s such a good boi and im so proud

-shiro’s back, the real shiro is back. and he’s got gray hair. the bb ;-; i was so sad when he said he’d died. but like i knew they weren’t gonna let it stay like that. ppl would’ve gone crazy mad had they not resolved it. ty allura and your magic
