STRENGTH: what is your character’s greatest virtue?

hey, let’s just add another layer of game meta and pick from the four platonic virtues (sophrosyne being temperance, phronesis being prudence, andreia being courage, and dikaiosyne being justice). i don’t think anyone would ever accuse hanami of being either temperate or particularly prudent, so those can get scratched off the list right away; she is very courageous, but not really in a way that’s distinguishable from the Generic Protagonist ‘I Am The Only One Who Can, Therefore I Must’ brand of courage.

of the four i would say her greatest virtue is her sense of justice--justice being kind of a subjective concept, in this case; see also: she literally murders people, ‘i am judge jury and executioner’-style. she’s spent too damn long cleaning up eorzea’s messes to have any sort of faith in their justice systems, and her first instinct is to take it into her own hands, especially if the transgression pisses her off enough.

kind of fitting, considering dikaiosyne is the virtue for the tank role quests, but then granson is basically fray-but-on-the-first so who’s surprised, really.

DETERMINATION: which emotion motivates your character to do what they do?

hanami, much like an onion, has layers. she’s got anger, and then some more anger under that, and under that is also anger, but when you get down to her juicy center...she cares really, really deeply about her family and her friends, and it upsets her when they’re hurt. it may have started as her being pissed off at the empire for hurting her siblings, and chasing vengeance on their behalf, but now she has the scions and fellow adventurers and, to an extent, eorzea. she loves them deeply, and fiercely, and if you took that away she wouldn’t go to half the lengths she does to be a hero.

also have a song lyric which i have definitely brought up before but which i think of often when writing hanami:

CONTROL: what is your character’s view of fate/destiny?

she doesn’t want to believe in destiny or fate, because if it was fated for her life to get this fucked up she’s gonna go find the fates and bash their heads in. which, as it happens, is a very final fantasy thing to do.

if she were to be uncomfortably honest with herself, she would say that a lot of her journey has felt uncomfortably like destiny, though.
