i would love to see some of your favorites!! i adore star wars vids, though i usually watch the more comedy oriented ones. but if you have some recs... O.O
Thanks! I went through my old faves, and while most of these are quite old and some a little dated, here are a few recs:
Tribute to the OT by Third Age Films: https://youtu.be/qWhIxqwpMGM—a bit light on Leia Content, but otherwise quite good IMO.
Tribute to the PT by Third Age Films ditto: https://youtu.be/-lPPcn5EV6k—similarly light on Padmé, and not quite so visually "clean" as the OT one, but I still really like it.
Shadow Proves the Sunshine (Luke and Leia) by 3yesac3: https://youtu.be/cgSUyd_8Buw. It heavily features Anakin and Padmé as well and highlights a lot of cool visual parallels IMO.
Broken (Obi-Wan and Luke) by 3yesac3: https://youtu.be/XcUkHBsax3s. The creator's description is a little odd to me, but functionally it's about Obi-Wan's relationships with Anakin and Luke and how those are interconnected, which I really liked.
A New Hope - Modern Trailer by Tom F: https://youtu.be/nywPf1p-BBY. Exactly what it says on the tin.
The Empire Strikes Back - Modern Trailer by Tom F: https://youtu.be/mfBEcFNtLQ4: Same but for ESB.
Luke Skywalker | Flares by DreamingOfDestiny: https://youtu.be/XbnKCzyvx9g. I just really like this. Luke <3

rating luke skywalker’s most iconic Looks
bc i’m bored and he deserves some love and some roasts
1. luke skywalker 103- for the initiates
Tumblr media
dare i say the most iconic of all luke’s looks? he really came in swinging. the simplicity of the outfit really lets his natural beauty shine; the tunic says unassuming farmer boy but the hair says disney prince. i wanna touch it. the plunging neckline makes him look more shirtless than if he actually took his shirt off- i can’t tell if i’m repelled or turned on. but he looks like he’d be great at holding hands :) final rating: 10/10 absolutely iconic
2. these aren’t his clothes.
Tumblr media
what happened to the swoosh in his hair? we went from the most dashing look the 70s had to offer to......... what i actually picture when i think of 70s hair. i realize that luke probably didn’t have much of a wardrobe to choose from but the banana yellow isn’t doing him any favors. but he looks happy enough and i guess that’s what’s most important? final rating: 6/10 would take him to Target for his own clothes :/
3. fun times w/ the frog
Tumblr media
two words: hot damn. those arms. those hands. that frog. the whole package. i didn’t know i was that into biceps before this motherfucker, true story. not really into the whole “sweaty training in an acid trip swamp” idea, but luke actually pulls it off here. the hair plastered to his forehead....... makes me feel a certain way. get into my swamp tbh pls dont quote me on that im begging final rating: 9.5/10 would bang but only if yoda’s there
4. “luke it’s a trap”
Tumblr media
similar in color to his dagobah outfit- maybe luke just really rocks the muddy greenish-gray? it’s not much of a fashion statement but sometimes less is more. while i do miss the biceps, i can’t resist a classy man and the sleeves at least give the illusion of classiness. his hair’s doing the swooshy thing again and it really pulls the look together for me :)  final rating: 8/10 hot but not too hot
4.5. he may be ur father but he aint ur daddy
Tumblr media
sad boy. angry. hair has lost trademark swoosh. new holes in his shirt, and new lack of hand where hand once was. also a new dad! i love that for him. i’m not really attracted to him here tho because he’s so vulnerable- i feel like i’m watching something i shouldn’t :( if anything it activates my protect instincts- someone get him a blanket and a hot chocolate.  final rating: 7/10 might be ur dad lol
5. he used to live here, you know
Tumblr media
luke’s out here serving us some emo looks and ngl i’m kinda here for it. the similarity to anakin’s costume design makes me think he developed a retro style between esb and rotj. i’m not mad; i just don’t think the leather vest or whatever it is necessary. but the wind in his hair makes him look very dashing, and the green lightsaber is nothing short of sexy final rating: 8.5/10 who’s that fella??? 👀
6. *incoherent screaming*
Tumblr media
i.... i think this is the same basic outfit from jabba’s barge but without the leather? thank the lord. he really did decide to make a statement with the black shirt, black pants, knee-high black boots, and thicc black belt, but honestly the uniformity looks very sexy on him. epitome of class. again, you can tell luke has combed his hair recently; it’s lost its swoosh and it’s not my fave. BUT i’m obsessed with hand veins and gloves and he’s serving us both!!! sorry that he had to lose his hand but the glove makes it kinda worth it
this look also marks luke’s character development from one hundred percent sub to a total switch. i dont make the rules :)
final rating: 12/10 would call him daddy if he asked

Hello there I read a post of your and you mentioned the star wars comics Can you please suggest some good ones to read about the prequels or the original trilogy era? I would be most grateful
Hi!  BOY, I CAN I.  :D PREQUELS COMICS: - Obi-Wan & Anakin by Charles Soule.  This is probably my favorite prequels comic, for both iddy reasons (the art is gorgeous, there are some joyfully extra Jedi shenanigans, Obi-Wan & Anakin’s relationship is darling, etc.), but also because it’s really, really good when you read the whole thing and look at what it’s saying about the plot, the Jedi and their view of their relationship with the Republic, their relationship with Anakin and his relationship with them, and why everyone views things the way they do, right down to Palpatine poisoning everything for everyone. - Age of Republic by Jody Houser.  This is a series of oneshots (don’t let the numbers fool you) for various hero and villain characters and all of them are really good.  My favorite is the Obi-Wan one (obviously) because it’s so good at exploring his relationship with Anakin, but the Padme and Anakin and Maul ones all have really excellent character moments as well. - Star Wars Adventures by various authors.  I enjoy pretty much all of the Adventures comics, no matter what era they’re in!  I don’t remember specifically which numbers the prequels ones are--there aren’t very many, but I’m recommending the whole run because there’s a lot of OT comics in there as well and the ST comics are really, really cute ones.  They’re light-hearted but have some great worldbuilding bits and have some amazing Padme moments especially.  (SWA #12-13 have the Anakin/Padme date episode that’s hilarious + the 2019 Annual has an amazing story about Breha telling baby Leia about her friend Queen Padme Amidala.)  There’s also a story about Mace helping a young Twi’lek girl somewhere in that run that’s WONDERFUL. - Clone Wars Battle Tales by Michael Moreci.  It’s a kids’ series (part of the Adventures line) but it has so many great moments for both the clones and the Jedi.  Both hilarious and with some touching moments (oh my god, Plo & Wolffe’s interactions got me right in the feelings and Obi-Wan is my fave forever, as always) and it’s a nicely done 5 issue mini-series. - Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu by Matt Owens.  Don’t let the art put you off (it is an acquired taste, if that) because the story itself is really worth digging into, a great look at Mace and the Jedi and their struggle with their role in being warriors in the Clone Wars, as well as their capacity for compassion and care when someone is deeply unfair to the people around them.  It’s an excellent Mace story but also has Kit Fisto being amazing in it, so it’s also worth reading for that. - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith vol. 2 by Charles Soule.  Set in the immediate aftermath of Revenge of the Sith, this is a phenomenal look at Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader and how they are absolutely the same person.  The bigger arc of this story illustrates all these various Jedi that Anakin meets, showing him paths he could have taken instead of the one he did--he could have went on sabbatical, he could have left the Jedi for a family, he could have found other paths, he could have helped even while falling to the dark side--and he rejects every single one of them because he refuses to believe there were any other options than the one he has.  Add in some incredible worldbuilding and this is the comic for understanding Darth Vader, for me. - Kanan: The Last Padawan by Greg Weisman.  Another must-read, for the stunningly gorgeous art, for the amazing cuteness of baby Jedi, for the incredibleness of everything of Depa Billaba, and for the heartbreak of watching Caleb Dume become Kanan Jarrus after the Jedi Purge.  The worldbuliding is amazing (the look at the Jedi is so satisfying!) and the deeper understanding of Kanan’s origins and heartbreak at watching how much he suffered through all of that, it’s just gorgeously done. ORIGINAL COMICS: - Darth Vader vol. 1 by Kieron Gillen.  It’s best to read this concurrently with the Star Wars ongoing (from 2015 by Jason Aaron) because the first 6+ issues overlap with each other, but after that, read in whatever order you like.  This series is amazing and I would probably say, if you’re going to read one Darth Vader comic, it should be this one (even though the Soule one is my favorite), because Gillen really nails that balance of keeping him something of a mystical figure while also exploring the character.  There are so many absolutely iconic moments from this run that are Must Reads. - Darth Vader vol. 3 by Greg Pak.  While I almost put this in the prequels second, because while it’s set between ANH and ESB there are a lot of flashbacks and aftermath of prequels era stuff.  It’s less than 10 issues into its run yet, but every issue has been grabbing me by the throat and really giving us another entire comic full of gut-punches about what a shit lord Anakin Skywalker chose to be while also breaking our hearts for him. - Star Wars vol. 1 by Jason Aaron.  While the main series has been rebooted and is now being written by Charles Soule, the Jason Aaron one is absolutely worth reading, it’s centered around the time just post-ANH, where Luke and Leia and Han are having adventures and it does the brilliant job of exploring the characters in meaningful ways while working around the framework of the original movies and adding onto them to make them even better, imo.  Plus, there are some Obi-Wan issues in there that are absolute heartbreakers. - Star Wars vol. 2 by Charles Soule.  We’re only on the second arc at this point, but the first arc with Luke recently wrapped up and it was really amazing, Soule is really good at drawing connections between the character arcs of both the PT and the OT,  ones that may not always occur to me on the first read, but once I go back, it really feels it’s deliberate.  Luke struggling with the dark side in the aftermath of ESB and the revelations there and how he deals with it?  Incredible. - As mentioned above, the Star Wars Adventures comics have a lot of OT ones (anything with Leia tends to be my favorite) and they might be aimed at a younger audience, but they are often gorgeously drawn and have either really iconic moments or are just really feel-good reads. - Shattered Empire is a four-issue mini-series that’s basically the aftermath of ROTJ and setting up a lot of stuff that’ll happen in the years between the OT and the ST.  The art is absolutely stunning, you will fall in love with Poe Dameron’s mother, and there’s some great nods to what the original trio was up to.  It’s great for connective tissue, but also I just genuinely enjoyed it for itself. HONORABLE MENTIONS: - It’s been awhile since I read either of the Maul comics (the one by Cullen Bunn I remember really enjoying, and I haven’t read Son of Dathomir by Jeremy Barlow yet) but they’re worth picking up, if you’re enjoying SW comics. - The Adventures comics had a Tales from Vader’s Castle + Return to Vader’s Castle series released near Halloween for some cutely spooky stories that I really loved, if you like the Adventures comics.  There’s a hilarious one with Dracula!Dooku references as a nod to Christopher Lee’s portrayal of the character that absolutely delighted me. - If you enjoy her introduction in Darth Vader vol. 1, the Doctor Aphra comics are excellent reads as well. I also loved the Princess Leia mini-series by Mark Waid

Out of pure curiosity, what are your fave self-indulgent tropes for Vader-Luke? 👀
My personal faves are
1) Vader carrying Luke is always fantastic....... 🥺
2) Post-ESB AU where Luke’s in so much danger/is so scared that he calls out to his dad for help 😭
3) Vader and Luke having to cuddle to keep Luke warm when Vader finds Luke stranded on some ice planet
4) Vader and Luke ballroom dancing 🥺❤️ I read a few fics where a disguised!Vader dances with Luke, and it was so adorable I could hardly handle it 😭
ok I too adore vader carrying luke, and cuddling, and calling to each other
also hugging. give me all the hugging
luke turning to vader for comfort? chef's kiss
vader reassuring luke? amazing. showstopping, incredible.
and as shown by one of my recent fics: I adore Luke falling asleep on vader's shoulder and vader losing his shit internally
vader finding luke injured and going ballistic
vader being nervous and scared because Luke is injured
vader turning back to the light to save Luke
luke fixing vader's suit/getting mad over how horrible it is and vader being surprised someone would care. that's the good shit
them talking mechanics/flying together and bonding
as you can see I am a sucker for soft trash can and his sunshine son interactions lol. thank you!

Star Wars
Thanks!
Prequels (Ep. 1, 2, 3)
Favorite Character: I mean I have to go Obi-Wan
2nd Favorite Character: I don’t know if it’s because of memes or there’s not a lot of characters to pick from but I’m going with Anakin
Least Favorite Character: Yoda, yeah I said it
The character I’m most like: C-3PO, I also have anxiety
Favorite Pairing: Obi-Wan/Padme
Least Favorite Pairing: Anakin/Padme, does nothing for me, though it seems in the Clone Wars animated series they do a better job with them but haven’t seen it
Favorite Moment: This is more saddest moment/actually felt something during these movies - Order 66, the music, the montage of Jedi being gunned down, Anakin marching onto the Jedi Temple was pretty impactful
Rating Out of 10: PM - 3/10, AotC - 1/10, RotS - 5/10; Overall - 4/10
Original (Ep. 4, 5, 6)
Favorite Character: Leia
2nd Favorite Character: Han
Least Favorite Character: Luke, omg I know, but as a child I found Luke really annoying and not just because he starts off as a whiny kid but because he becomes a self-righteous “Jedi” at the end who spends all of Return saying he feels good in Darth Vader and I remember even as a kid going, “Bitch where?”
The character I’m most like: C-3PO
Favorite Pairing: Han/Leia, even though I do find they have some problems I can’t ignore looking back as an adult
Least Favorite Pairing: Luke/Leia even before the sibling reveal
Favorite Moment: I have to say the beginning of New Hope, with the Star Destroyer going after Leia’s ship and the Death Star trench fight at the end
Rating Out of 10: NH - 8/10, ESB - 9/10, RotJ - 6.5/10; Overall - 8/10
Sequels (Ep. 7, 8, 9)
Favorite Character: Rey/Ben, I love them so much I can’t choose
2nd Favorite Character: Rose
Least Favorite Character: Finn, I think he was an interesting idea but I didn’t really get a sense of who he was and wanted. Rewatching TFA before TRoS I realized I didn’t like him, he was the “comic relief” who lies to everyone and says stupid stuff. I think he got better in TLJ but with no follow through in TRoS it’s difficult to say I enjoy the character
The character I’m most like: Rose and Ben
Favorite Pairing: REYLO
Least Favorite Pairing: Pretty much all the other pairings, not out of hate but indifference, I just don’t care so much to have a least, maybe Kylo/Hux
Favorite Moment: So tough but I think the Hand Touching scene with Rey/Ben is pretty amazing, of course all Reylo moments are beautiful and almost everything in TLJ is my fave!
Rating Out of 10: TFA - 7/10, TLJ - 11/10, TRoS - DNF (walked out 30min in)
Rogue One
Favorite Character: Cassian
2nd Favorite Character: Jyn
Least Favorite Character: Bodhi, just thought his character was a little underdeveloped
The character I’m most like: Probably K2, I’m a lot like the robots lol
Favorite Pairing: Jyn/Cassian
Least Favorite Pairing: n/a
Favorite Moment: K2 hitting Cassian in the face and Diego trying not to laugh
Rating Out of 10: 5/10
The Mandalorian
Favorite Character: Mandolorian/Din
2nd Favorite Character: Cara Dune
Least Favorite Character: Toro, the rich boy wannabe bounty hunter
The character I’m most like: Maybe Baby Yoda
Favorite Pairing: Din/happiness
Least Favorite Pairing: n/a
Favorite Moment: All of the finale
Rating Out of 10: 8/10

Star Wars?
1. Luke Skywalker
Tumblr media
My one true son. I love him so much. I've rambled on and on about this in the past but as the lead in a franchise like Star Wars, Luke is so refreshing as a male character. His character is not at all built on toxic masculinity and in the end, he saves the galaxy by directly rejecting violence and instead, embracing compassion and following his own moral compass instead of doing what others told him to do. He does have that streak of Skywalker darkness but he always rejects it in favor of doing what's right in the end. I'm not as passionate about Star Wars as I once was but Luke is probably still my #1 favorite male character.
2. Leia Organa
Tumblr media
When I first watched ANH, I actually thought Leia was gonna be my #1 fave. (I didn't fully fall in love with Luke until ESB). I loved how strong and sassy Leia was in the face of danger. And even though Luke ended up being my fave, Leia is still #2 for those qualities and more. She's so, so strong and has a fierce passion that I find so admirable. But along with that, she's also so kind to the people who deserve it.
3. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
Tumblr media
Anakin is just so interesting and complex as a character that I can't help but be drawn in. Despite how badly done the prequels were, they still managed to give him a believeable enough backstory that made his eventual transformation into Darth Vader make complete sense. He allows love to consume him and in the end, it was what led to his downful. But it was also his love for his son that allowed him to break himself out of the dark hole he placed himself in enough to save him before he died. Just....ahhhh. I can talk about him for ages. Imo he has more complexity in his right toe than Kilo does as a character.
4. Finn
Tumblr media
I love Finn for a lot of the same reasons that I love Luke. He's a character that is ultimately led by compassion and a need to do what's right. He rejected years of brainwashing as a storm trooper in order to do just that. Such a strong and beautiful character. He deserves so much better from both Lucasfilm and the fandom.
5. Padme Amidala
Tumblr media
Ahhhh another character that deserved/deserves so much better. She is the bio mother of Luke and Leia and she gets paid dust :/ The prequels should have been done much better but Padme is still such a great character. She was strong, passionate, and fought for what she believed in. It's such bullshit that we're meant to believe she "died of a broken heart" because of Anakin. In fact, I refuse to believe that. She had so much more to live for.
Thanks! ❤
send me a fandom and i'll list my 5 favorite characters

Fandom meme
tagged by @filigranka and @ysraellaleostwald - thanks!
Rules: Choose any three fandoms (in any order), answer the questions and tag 10 people.
tagging: @septembersung, @shewhodoesnotexist, @lightningale, @mariacharlet, @redhatmeg, @who-honor-idk, @theadventuresofacatholicnerdling, @2theheights, @itspileofgoodthings,
My chosen 3 fandoms:
1. Star Wars
2. Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood and manga.
3. Avatar: the Last Airbender
The first character you loved:
1. Obi Wan Kenobi. In the New Hope, which I’ve seen first, he was this old wise man, tad bit a mystery, and emanating badassery, but also with a whimsical sense of humor, and lots of empathy. He got my respect and was my fave through this movie, which I don’t like that much otherwise, and I only grew more attached to him in the next movies. And then the Phantom Menance happened, and he got the face of  young Ewan McGregor, and it was literally love at first sight. I re-watch Prequel Trilogy just for him, hng...
Tumblr media
2. Maes Hughes. This is why I’m cynical about my fave characters.
3. Prince Zuko. I decided to watch Avatar only because I heard he’s got an exquisite character arc, thus I was focusing on him from the begining - and it was the only thing that took me through the otter penguins and stuff, because I was way too old to enjoy it otherwise.
Tumblr media
The character you never expected to love so much:
1. ugh, Hux. I’m really side-eyeing myself for this one, as I cringe every time at his speach and the pure hatred oozing from it. I didn’t expect to have any opinion about him at all - I was just “oh, hey, that’s Domhnall! he’s such a great actor! Let’s study every second of his acting.” Then there were jokes about him and Kylo wyying for power and approval from Snoke like two entitled children. And then there were all the meta and background info, and fandoom headcanons, and storytelling excercisses in heel-face turns and redemption possibilities (for the guy who blew up five planets and billions of people/aliens, *side-eyeing myself again*) and AUs... and now here I am, in the pit of doom, very much aware that the version of Hux I’m so obssesed with doesn’t even exist in canon.
2. Roy Mustang. I’m still cackling whenever I think about his early appearances in the Brotherhood. Look, they say he’s competent and he’s boosting about his powerfull flame alchemy, but he fails to use it! he’s constantly either wet or useless, and ends up looking like a fool. And then there’s Maria Ross incident - of all times you’d wish his flames failed! And so he prooves himself to be an angry idiot and a total bastard. Couple episodes later you mutter ‘bastard’ at him in totally different tone. At the end of the series you are rooting for him to become the ruler of the entire country, because he’s the only one with moral ideals and a necessary conscience. Also lots of angst. But really why I love him so much, is exactly because of those dumb moments at the begining and later on - he tries and fails and struggles on his path, because there’s no road map on how to redeem yourself and fix the country, and that’s so f relatable.
Tumblr media
3. Pretty much everyone besides Zuko - I really did not expect this cartoon to be so good character- and story-wise, I thought I’d care only about Zuko, and even with him I didn’t fathom the extent of love I ended up giving him.
The character you relate to most:
1. Really, it’s R2D2 and BB8. Sometimes all I’m capable of are *sad beep noises* and arson.
Tumblr media
2. In all honesty - Sheska.
Tumblr media
3. Suki. It’s the way she speaks with pride about their culture, the obvious care she has for people - and the “answer now, or we will feed you to the Unagi!”
Tumblr media
The character you’d slap:
1. After the Last Jedi, nearly everyone. But the director the most.
Tumblr media
2.  You know, the villians of course and half of cast here and there too. Ed and Al for rushing into things and failling to talk about feelings, Hohenhaim for parenting, Roy for being occasionally dumb, Maes for not making notes. Isaac McDougall for not talking in a more straightforward manner. For Shou I’d borrow the mechanical arm from Ed.
3. besides villians, I dread to admit this but Aang. I know, he’s a traumatized 11 yo with huuuuge responsibility on his shoulders and really all around loving and compasionate character. It’s just I often don’t like protagonists just for how the story focuses on them, and the combination of Aang’s immaturity, temper (he does get angry quite a bit), and rather clumsily executed love arc with Katara, annoys me and I want to shake him like “get a grip, man!”
Three favourite characters (in order of preference):
1. Obi Wan Kenobi. Luke Skywalker. Chewbacca. R2D2. Darth Vader. Princess Leia Organa. Ewoks. Huge black hole. and then Hux. BB8. Rey. Poe Dameron still. Kylo is sneaking on me, will see.
2. Roy Mustang. Ling Yao. Riza Hawkeye. Maes Hughes. Scar. Miles. Olivier Mira Armstrong. Lan Fan. Izumi Curtis and hubby. Alex Armstrong. Greedo, Marcoh, chimeras, the list just goes on...
3. Zuko. Suki. Mai. Sokka. Kyoshi. Toph. Iroh. Piandao. Hakoda. Ty Lee. Azula. Teo. June. Longshot. I’m forgetting someone...
A character you liked at first but don’t anymore:
1. Poe Dameron, sigh. After TFA Poe was really close to being my fave character of the newbies. I liked his not so overt sass, his confidence, without being cocky about it, his joy at flying, but also his calm and competence when it came to fulfilling the mission. And his easy going manner and friendliness. He was well balanced and quite unique of a character. But the Last Jedi took him in the direction of a “lovable” cock-sure pistol, and I’m just not charmed anymore. At least there’s still this:
Tumblr media
2. I don’t think anyone got a fall from grace, even King Bradley still has some of my respect, tho the nature of it changed.
3. Again, I can’t think of anyone who’d lost my sympathy.
A character you did not like at first but do now:
1. Luke Skywalker (tho “now” was before the Last Jedi assasinated him). It’s histerical, Luke annoyed the heck out of me in the New Hope, and is still whenever I watch this part. He’s so naive, and inexperienced, and eager, and wannabe-heroic, and pretty much everything I dislike about most protagonists. And then during ESB I got gradually invested in him, and then they cut his arm off, and I was in love in a second. And then he became wise in the RotJ, and I just love him a lot.
2. Scar. He was mostly a terror to be feared and a merciless killer - until he wasn’t. The more you know about him, the more human he becomes, and you wish him some peace and redemption and a kitten for company. I mean, panda.
Tumblr media
3. Sokka. Ho boy, how did he annoy me at first, with his sexism, and bragging, and stupid comments. But then he got character growth, and became the strategist mastermind and often the voice of reason, not losing any of his comedic potential, and I love him.
Tumblr media
Three OTPs:
Most of the time I don’t ship characters, but I love the dynamics between Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye, the Curtis couple, Ling Yao/Lan Fan, also Zuko/Mai, and Sokka/Suki pairings.

The great dilemma of my life is that I wanna get into the Star Wars expanded universe stuff (or legends or whatever they're calling it now in wake of the new movies), but I get nervous about it because 1) there's so much of it and 2) I don't want to be called a faker because I've traditionally been more into Star Trek
Anon, you are absolutely not a faker!! People like what they like and that’s totally fine, and there’s never a time limit on becoming a fan of something. You can like both Star Trek and Star Wars and anyone who tries to set up a rivalry between them or say you can only like one doesn’t make sense and is pulling some gross fandom gatekeeping bullshit. There’s no requirement list for liking something, just be into what you’re into. :)  And if anyone ever tries to tell you you’re not a fan of something for whatever reason they come up with, they’re wrong. If you like something, you’re a fan, and it’s not a race or competition to see who is the ~best fan~
There is absolutely A TON of stuff in the EU though, you’re right, and what you should read depends on what you’re looking to get out of it. It’s a lot like comics where you pretty much pick and choose what you want to read and what you personally consider canon, lol. Cut for excessive EU talk lmao
Qualitatively, the best books are basically the standalone books and a trilogy with a duology sequel. My personal rec list for just the most well-written books are:1. Razor’s Edge by Martha Wells - A Leia book set between ANH and ESB with a heavy dose of beautiful Han/Leia UST and portraying their relationship as the way I’ve always seen it in that era, as very good friends who trust and rely on one another who’ve been falling in love for years and know it but are constrained by circumstances. It also is one of the only books to deal with the fallout of the loss of Alderaan. If you like Leia or Han/Leia it’s the book for you, and is hands-down my fave EU book2. Tatooine Ghost by Troy Denning  - a post-ROTJ novel about Leia and Han on Tatooine. It’s about Leia dealing with her heritage and Denning is one of my fave EU authors because he handles characters and feelings very well and always writes Han/Leia with the respect and love and humor they deserve3. Kenobi by John Jackson Miller - post-ROTS Obi-wan in hiding on Tatooine and coming to terms with like… everything lmao4. Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn - immediately post-ANH canonical Ocean’s 11 AU about Han putting together a team to pull a heist. Zahn is the most well-regarded EU author and he’s really great at characterization and always has interesting plots5. Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor by Matthew Stover - post-ROTJ Luke novel that did a great job at characterization. Stover also wrote the ROTS novelization which is probably the most popular movie novelization
The series that gets rec’d the most as the best place to start is definitely Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy. It’s set like 10 years post ROTJ and focuses on Han, Luke, and Leia and introduces the character of Mara. I have mixed feelings about this trilogy because I think Zahn does a great job at handling the universe and the team and he’s one of my favorite authors for characterization, but he spends so much time on the villain Thrawn that I just get pissed off every time because I think he’s a terrible character and it’s a waste of pagetime lol. But this is so, so many people’s entry point into the EU, and they’re good books! Then there’s the Hand of Thrawn duology sequel set another 10 years or so after that.
So that’s my list for if you’re looking for just the Best Books. But my heart really lies in the books that take place after that, from the New Jedi Order onward, about 20 years post-ROTJ because that’s when the Solo kids grow up enough to take center stage in the main books alongside their parents. Jaina, Han and Leia’s oldest child and only daughter, is tied for my all-time favorite character, and this is the era where she really gets to shine. If you want to see Luke start and rebuild the Jedi Order and not give up even when a student goes bad and kills millions of people, if you want to see a bunch of jedi working together, if you want to see Leia as a jedi, if you want to see Han and Leia in love and working together for 40 years, if you want to see Han and Luke and Leia as a family who support and help and tease and love one another as they grow older together, this is where you get it.
You can’t really pull a qualitative rec list for this era though because each book builds on the previous. The NJO is a 19-book series split up into shorter series within, but I can’t imagine just picking up a random series in it. It would be like watching ROTJ without seeing ANH and ESB, you would technically be getting a full story but you’d be missing so much context it would hardly be worth it. So that’s the biggest problem, you have to basically commit to 19 books to get the story. Then it’s followed by the Legacy of the Force and the Fate of the Jedi series, which are shorter ~10 book series each, but still require you to read every book in continuity. And because of all the different authors in every series, characterizations aren’t always handled the best and different authors have different strengths, so it can be a little frustrating. But I love the Skywalker and Solo families, so if you have the time and the inclination, it’s where my heart is.

Rules: Answer these 10 Star Wars-related questions and tag your favorite Reylo blogs to join in!
1) Who is your favorite Star Wars character of the new trilogy? (excluding Rey and Kylo)
I love Finn and Rose especially, but that doesn’t mean I don’t also enjoy Poe, BB-8, and Maz.
I would have to say Finn, though. Finn is really, really important. I think that his good heart and tendency to love and protect despite fear/wanting to run is a very important contrast to Kylo/Ben for Rey. Like Kylo needs to step up his game because Rey isn’t without examples of other good people, you know?
2) If you had a lightsaber what color would it be?
Red. ;)
3) What is/are your favorite quote(s) from a Star Wars movie?
“I love you.”
“I know.”
“You nEeD a tEacHer.”
“So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.”
4) Do you think Kylo/Ben will survive episode IX?
I really, really hope so--after a close call with death so Rey (and all of us) can sob disconsolately. Basically I want him to sacrifice himself BUT HE SURVIVES.
I don’t know though. I’d say his chances are like 65% yes he survives.
5) What are your top 3 favorite Star Wars films?
1) TLJ
2) TFA
3) ESB
6) Which droid would you most like to own/have as your sidekick on intergalactic adventures?
BB-8--he’s adorable and loyal af. But you know, I adore K-2SO as well and could live with his sass quite happily.
7) Which Jedi master would you most like to train under: Luke, Yoda, Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan?
Obi-Wan is my g.
8) What is your favorite scene featuring Rey and Kylo?
THE FIGHT SCENE(S). Like, the lightsaber battle on Starkiller Base was my favorite, but THEN we got the Praetorian guards fight scene??? That scene could play on repeat in front of me forever and I would never tire of it.
But who am I to deny the bridal carry? The first Force Bond? THE HAND-HOLDING SCENE?
My personal underrated fave is the elevator scene, and when Rey shows up in the Snow White coffin pod.
AND FINALLY (since I’ve now named every single scene, basically, so why not) the scene where he’s kneeling and watching her leave.
EVERY REYLO SCENE IS A GOOD SCENE. But probably I’d have to choose the Praetorian Guards fight scene. #THIGHGRAB
9) What order did you initially see the saga films in?
I saw The Phantom Menace, then the original three, then Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith I think? Not sure. Then TFA, Rogue One, TLJ.
10) What is your ideal ending for Reylo in Episode IX?
Married. But seriously, if we don’t get a kiss, I will die. (IF WE GET A KISS I WILL DEFINITELY DIE). I want it to not feel rushed, but I want there to be true, full-on romance.
Idk who to tag because pretty much everyone’s been tagged already! So if you see this, do it!

ok, important question: what did angel and cordelia think of tlj?
hmmm how do i answer this in a mostly unbiased way
(first of all let me say: attack of the clones was released right after season 3 of angel so in my perfect universe where none of the season 4 garbage happened and Cordy didn’t ascend, they totally went to see it. of course she fell asleep tho but whatever, it was magical and later Angel buys her the DVD because he’s a cornball!!!!)
so starting with Cordy, she wants Spectacle out of her Star Wars, you know? i can’t see her getting way into it but she has her certain characters she loves and very strong opinions because, well, Cordy. and i think she loves the “cornier” ones (like ANH and TPM) with lots of quotable lines because she does the whole running commentary.
(second of all: she DEFINITELY quotes Anakin’s “are you an angel?” to Angel and he never stops finding it amusing)
so i think it would probably be too much of a downer for her tbh. she wants escapism and fun. Rogue One, too. she lives that downer crap! she wants a good old-fashioned Hollywood happy ending. RotJ is probably her favorite Star Wars. she’d enjoy some stuff about TLJ - like Holdo and Leia, most likely, and Luke’s Force projection. i feel like she’d have a lot of sarcastic comments for Kylo Ren (“Hey, remember Penn?” “Cordelia, I turned the guy into a vampire. Of course I remember him.” “That’s him!” “No, the guy who looks like Penn is in the Avengers.” “No no no, I mean he acts like him. Like you - evil you - is Vader, and then you’ve got this guy trying really hard to be that.”) but overall, it would be too depressing, too slow, and not enough cool Star Wars stuff.
with Angel…aksjflkj I think he would really enjoy some of the moments but idk if he would like the movie. i feel like Angel would really like Yoda (am I just thinking that because Spike compared them? maybe but i can’t get it out of my brain i guess. i just feel like it’s true. also Angel is always getting advice from a green guy so you know. idk.) and he’d enjoy seeing him back, but he’d be so frustrated with Rey (”You can’t change him!” “Angel, she can’t hear you. She’s not real.” “I don’t even know how many times I pulled that whole wounded act when I was evil. Look at him, he’s not even getting the doe eyes right. It’s pathetic. He’s evil, Rey! And not even good at being evil!”) and he’d be disappointed in Luke’s characterization probably, since he would ID with both Luke and Anakin and would want to see Luke (representing his good self) succeed and not have given up.
so i think Angel might actually like it a bit more than Cordy would but i don’t think it would be either one’s fave.
Angel’s rankings: AOTC, Rogue One, RotS, RotJ, ANH, TPM, ESB, TLJ, TFA
Cordy’s rankings: RotJ, ANH, AOTC, TPM, RotS, TFA, ESB, TLJ, Rogue One

Did you get Luke yet for the character meme? If yes, Rey, please.
I don’t remember which meme this was for, but let’s go with Luke for the current one!
1. Sexuality Headcanon: asexual!
2. OTP: Luke/Han/Leia when I ship him at all.
3. BROTP: Luke and Leia or (in a different way) Luke and Anakin. SKYWALKERS
4. NOTP: literally anything apart from #2.
5. First headcanon that pops into my head: Luke learned Shmi’s native language from Beru as a child and is fluent in it (if with Beru’s accent), but after Owen and Beru died, thought (wrongly) that he’d never talk to anyone else in it again.
6. Favourite line from this character: probably “Father, I won’t leave you!” T_T
7. One way in which I relate to this character: Not a lot, honestly? I love him, but we’re quite different. Hah, I guess we both have demeanours that read as Soft(TM) irl but ... we aren’t, really.
8. Thing that gives me second-hand embarrassment about this character: Also not a lot. His imperfections are part of why I like him so much! I guess the NOOooooOOO in ESB, though it’s understandable.
9. Cinnamon roll or problematic fave?: Not quite a problematic fave, but definitely not a cinnamon roll, fandom takes notwithstanding.

top 5 luke moments, top 5 maxanne scenes, top 5 things you'd fix from got
Oooh thanks!
Top 5 Luke moments:
1. “I’m a jedi, like my father before me.” This is such an obvious choice and probably what 95% of the Luke stans on here would say is their favorite Luke scene, but I don’t care. I have to list it is as my #1 because it’s simply the best. It encompasses one of the main reasons that I love Luke so much as a character…he’s a main male protagonist whose biggest strength is his compassion and refusal to give in to darkness. In most other sci-fi adventures this kind of scenario would end with the male protagonist killing both of the antagonists, but with Luke, he wins by doing the exact opposite. The only time he’s provoked into violence during the entire scene is when Vader threatens Leia, but he picks himself back up at the end and stands by his convictions, not allowing the Emperor to drag him into the same trap that his father fell into. And it’s his complete refusal to fall into the dark side that inspires Anakin/Vader, someone whose been completely consumed by darkness for over twenty years, to drag himself out of that hole in order to save his son. It’s just…amdkndknd. I can go on forever about why I love that scene. If I ever have a son, Luke is the kind of character that I would want him to aspire to be like.
2. The scene in ESB where he completely abandons his jedi training to go save Han and Leia, despite both Obi-Wan and Yoda telling him not to. This is a significant scene that sets Luke apart from the majority of the other jedi…he ultimately follows his heart over what’s “wise” or “responsible”. He leaves, probably very prepared to die, to save the people he loves. He’s mostly untrained but Han and Leia are in danger, so he has to at least try to save them. Further proof that he’d never fall into that “no attachments” BS.
3. All of those scenes where he sassed Jabba during ROTJ. “I warn you not to underestimate my power”. It’s like, after he found out that Darth Vader is his father, he stopped giving a fuck and turned into a beast lol.
4. His duel with Vader in ESB. It’s hard to watch that scene because it’s so clear that Luke is physically outmatched, but what I always found admirable about that scene is that he still never gives up. Vader says “it’s useless to resist”  but Luke continues to resist. He gets the “soft cinnamon roll” label a lot but my son is also a fighter.
5. All of his interactions with Artoo and Threepio. The first time I watched ANH, I actually originally thought that Leia was going to be my favorite character (as of now, she is my second fave) but one thing that stood out to me about Luke in ANH was how he talked to Artoo and Threepio. While everyone else throughout the movie see’s them as droids, Luke treats them like his new friends. “You can call me Luke.” And you keep getting that vibe with their scenes together throughout the rest of the trilogy too (especially with Artoo). Luke is just a genuinely kind person.
There’s scenes in TLJ that I really liked too, despite how much I complain about it. (That scene with Leia in particular was admittedly beautiful). But i’m too mad about it right now to even think about including any of them in the list lol.
Top 5 Maxanne scenes:
1. “I believe that in this moment, you cannot fathom leaving me.” It might seem kind of weird that I put this one as my first pick because it’s kind of sad in tone. Max is talking about the impending doom of their relationship. But I just love the acting in it. The way they both look at each other throughout it. It’s something you can’t watch without thinking, “god they’re in love with each other.” And the kiss that follows it is the most tender and beautiful kiss in the entire series imo.
2. “There’s nothing important that does not include you.” I put this as #2 and not #1 because it reminds me that Eleanor died and makes me sad because of that :/ But I really do love it. It’s my main OTP quote for them for a reason. The entire speech just encompasses how much much Max’s relationships with both Anne and Eleanor truly shaped her arc throughout the show. Watching Eleanor’s mistakes, and eventually having to grieve her death, is what pushes Max to realize that she needs to fix things with Anne. And that hand-holding in the snow at the end
3. Anne opening up to Max about what happened to her when she was young and how Jack saved her, and why she feels like she owes him for that :/ Anne and Max both suffered r*pe and abuse at the hands of men, and I love the narrative that they’re both survivors who confine in each other about it and help each other.
4. That scene where Max is sitting in the bathtub and Anne is just kneeling on the floor next to her and staring at her like she’s the cure to everything bad in the world. “You saying this ain’t real?” “Of course it is.”
5. Their first kiss. It was so emotionally packed and sexy. And thinking back on it now, I think it was kind of funny that Max just assumed that the reason Anne was in such a bad mood was because she was sexually frustrated (because of her). She was obviously right, but damn, I wish I had that much self confidence lol.
Honorable mention to “I will stand between you and them and I will protect you.”
Top 5 things i’d fix from GoT:
Damn, only five things? Lol. Here’s my attempt at narrowing it down. In no particular order:
1. I would erase Sansa’s season five arc and give her the Alayne Stone arc from the books instead. (For people who don’t know, in the books, Sansa disguises herself as “Alayne Stone”, Littlefinger’s bastard daughter and is still currently at the Vale). The downside to that is that we would have had to watch her interact with Littlefinger even more than we did on the show, but it still largely beats the Ramsay shit. And my girl would have gotten her well-deserved arc of slowly developing into a true player of the game.
2. Catelyn’s arc. (Which would have included Lady Stoneheart). People who only watch the show would probably be shocked to know that Catelyn was actually supposed to be more important of a character than Robb was because the show let Robb completely sideline her in the arc that was mainly supposed to be hers. Robb was a side character in HER story, not the other way around. She was a POV character for a reason. Smh. So yeah, i’d definitely fix that.
3. The mess that was Sansa and Arya’s story line in S7. YIKES. Erase, erase.
4. Speaking of erasing, bye bye J*nerys. (There’s a large chance that this is going to happen in the books as well, which is ick, but i’m at least hoping that it’ll happen in a way that doesn’t make Jon and Dany completely OOC lol).
5. JAIME’S CHRACTER. Holy shit lol. I would give him the development that book! Jaime got, and none of the BS the writers pulled with him in seasons 4 and beyond.
BIG honorable mention to Dorne too. Dorne is actually a really interesting plot point in the books, but on the show, it’s pretty pointless and boring.

tvd to honor the fact that it ends next week, star wars, and reign (btw I haven't seen the new episode, but spoiler alert, leith is alive and narcisse locked him up and had claude marry his son, and damn I hate him 1000 more now)
Thanks!
TVD:
the first character i ever fell in love with: Stefan, believe it or not. But now I don’t really care that much about him lol
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Most of the characters lol. But I think the biggest example would probably be Caroline. She used to be my favorite female character on the show but now i’m just meh towards her.
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Forwood. I also used to ship Steferine until I realized how many consent issues there were between Katherine and human! Stefan.
my ultimate favorite character™: Bonnie Bennett. My light who deserved so much better :(
prettiest character: Bonnie!
my most hated character: TVD! Klaus. I still sometimes get war flashbacks from how much I hated him lol. I also hate Kai, but that’s partly because of his stans.
my OTP: Bamon *sighs*
my NOTP: Kl*roline, D*lena, B*nkai, B*nenzo. Too many hated ships to name tbh lol
favorite episode: All of the episodes where Damon and Bonnie were trapped in the prison world together. Also “The Last Dance”.
saddest death: The majority of the characters never actually stay dead so idk. Maybe Jenna? I think Rose’s death scene was sad and well done but I wasn’t attatched to her.
favorite season: My Bamon bias wants me to say S6 but S2 was probably overall the best.
least favorite season: S5
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: TVD! Klaus lmao
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Damon. Although a lot of the time my feelings towards him are very complicated. I wish the writers had allowed him to grow. Also Katherine.
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: BONNIE :(
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Don’t have one. Bamon is obviously very problematic but so are the vast majority of TVD ships.
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: Idk. Tyler and Liv maybe?
Star Wars:
the first character i ever fell in love with: The first movie I watched was “A New Hope” and I LOVED Leia from the start. I actually thought she was going to be my fave at first but then ESB made me stan Luke.
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: None
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: None
my ultimate favorite character™: Luke! My son
prettiest character: Probably Padme? But I think Rey is the character that i’m personally the most attracted to.
my most hated character: Hux, just because I find the fact that he has so many fans really annoying lol. I hope he dies in episode 8.
my OTP: Finnrey
my NOTP: R*ylo. I just need Rey and Kylo to be confirmed as cousins so it can officially die. Someone leak it please.
favorite episode: Return of the Jedi
saddest death: Padme. She deserved better.
favorite season:
least favorite season:
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: Sometimes I think I hate Kylo but it’s really just his fans that I hate. I think he does have potential to be a good villain.
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Anakin Skywalker lmao
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Luke, Leia, and Han all three deserved better :( But also Padme
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Anidala, although I think that wording is maybe a LITTLE too strong. They’re very problematic. But I like them for the tragic aspect.
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: Finn and Poe. Tbh, I was kind of underwhelmed by them when I saw TFA? I was expecting to be really invested in them but then they only had a few minutes of screen time together. Maybe that will change in the future but for now I prefer Finn and Rey.
Reign:
the first character i ever fell in love with: Mary Stuart
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Bash. I don’t dislike him but I REALLY did not care much about him by the time he left the show.
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I still ship S1 Kennash but they became a mess in S2.
my ultimate favorite character™: Mary!
prettiest character: Mary again. Adelaide Kane is gorgeous.
my most hated character: NARCISSE. Why isn’t he dead yet?
my OTP: Idk…I don’t really have a hardcore OTP for Reign. But my favorite ship was probably Frary, even though I hate the majority of the fanbase for it lol. I also really like Cleith.
my NOTP: L*rcisse. Fuck the writers for having Narcisse be the last person Lola saw before she died.
favorite episode: 1x07. It was the first episode where we saw Mary and Catherine work as a team. And it was intense.
saddest death: Lola :( But also Francis
favorite season: S1
least favorite season: S2
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: Narcisse. Although I think he has a lot of haters too lol. I don’t hate Leith anymore but I still don’t love him like a lot of the fandom does.
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Catherine
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Mary. Also Lola deserved much better.
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: None
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: I thought Nostradamus and Olivia were cute in S1 but they didn’t last long enough for me to be invested.
(And I haven’t watched any of S4 yet but that literally annoys me so much lol. I’m glad Leith isn’t dead though. I just really wish they would kill Narcisse already. He’s overstayed his welcome.)
