I've been in North Wales for the past week, "on tour" with the ceilidh band I play for. I also used it as a preliminary research trip for The Animals We Became (2026), which is set in a fantastical version of medieval North Wales. Since this book is substantially about people* being deeply weird and traumatised in the woods, a lot of this research involved trees. I was surprised how many rowan trees I saw, and it's clearly been a bumper year for rowan berries. Here are just a few of the photos I took of them.
