A poem for Eros + Digital offering
White-winged Eros, whose lips are like the petals of a summertime rose
Oldest and youngest of the gods, from whom the world arose
Source of existence, a playful fire dances in your eyes
Torch-bearing, lovely father of delight
You shoot forth golden arrows which sow the world with life
And thus yours altogether is the gift of being alive
The joys, both big and little, and every genuine smile
I thank you, Eros, for a chance so sublime
As long as my heart keeps on beating, may you beat your wings in sync
So that you may follow me always and show me what it really means to live
Open my eyes, I pray you, to the beauty which surrounds me and the chances that come my way
Teach me to love myself truly, no matter what others might say
And then, even after Hermes has walked me out of the light and I find myself down in Persephone’s abode
When that day comes, even then I’ll raise my hands towards the heavens up above
And gladly will I shout with a cheerful voice
