In the english translation this sentence of Burakh's & Dankovsky's response go as follow:

as you can see, in the original version, Burakh slipped INTO the informal, friendlier, and maybe less respectful "ты" FROM the more formal, respectful "вы". Since the english language has no distinction between a formal and an informal singular you/You, the translator had to go around it, and make it about cursing instead of the pronoun switching. on one hand, #respect because translation is a hard annoying hair-pulling job. on the other hand, i feel like this strippppsssss the scene of its...... tension. slipping from вы to ты is a way to show that burakh started considering himself real buddy-buddy with dankovsky. or maybe lost some of the (potentially convention-mandated) respect in speech he held for dankovsky. it's a hint that he had started to, subconsciously, see dankovsky as less Above him, keeping the formality by convention. AND, dankovsky telling HIM he can use the informal form, and doesn't have to keep using the formal one, is a way to recontextualize, and to reshape their relationship. he's shedding the distance of respect and and formality that was between them, he's actively telling burakh to forgo it.

in the english translation, i feel like this shedding of distance and formality is more accomplished in dankovsky's response alone: You don't have to watch your tongue with me. It's an authorization to curse, on this one, yes, but also to more openly discuss painful, annoying things, even if you gotta slip a fuck(THE CURSE WORD) in there.

i'll always be so so sad about the lack of english's formal/informal singular you distinction. makes for a very neutered language. the inherent closeness of accidentally calling someone ты/toi instead of вы/vous and not being called out on it............

while we’re on the subject of Greek Myth AUs (my bread and fucking butter), might I suggest a classic Hades and Persephone fusion?

I’m thinking Hades!Ghost and Persephone!Reader (obviously) and Soap would fill the role of Demeter, except instead of being Reader’s parent he’s her betrothed. He was meant to marry her until Ghost kidnapped her and took her to the Underworld, and when Soap finally finds her and sees her chained to Ghost’s throne he realizes no matter what he does Ghost is never going to let her go… so they may as well share her, hm?

Or maybe a Tantalous AU, where Soap decides to kill and serve his wife (Reader) to the gods and Ghost is so furious(because what the fuck) and so intrigued (because what the fuck) that he drags Soap to the Underworld. He puts your shade back in your body and when he sees how stunningly beautiful you are he decides he just has to keep you. And his favorite way to torture the two of you outside of rough fuckings? Dangling freedom right over your heads, just out of reach, so that you never forget that you belong to him forever.

In your Eros and psyche au, how different would season 5 be?

So, for once, Huiying is mostly out of the season. Red insists on hiding her at his parents' house when Qi Xiaotian comes to from the Underworld (he was three steps away from driving Xiaotian from the hospital). This keeps her out of the way of Li Jing and Nezha.

Xiangliu is extremely smug about Huiying, nearly asking Xiaotian to thank him for having her. After all, Xiaotian would not sacrifice himself to the pillar when he has a daughter at home, a daughter that's started to learn how to walk and talk.

...unfortunately, he underestimates how much a parent is willing to sacrifice for their child.

Xiaotian sacrifices himself to the pillar, knowing that he'll never see Huiying again but she'll be safe...until Nuwa tells him that his family will be reincarnated in the next cycle. Except Huiying is only a product of Xiaotian being awoken early, which means that Huiying will most likely not be there. She's a tad more sympathetic to his plight but...eh.

Xiaotian refuses to allow that.

Red is furious with him afterwards for sacrificing himself and that iciness goes on to next season.

As for Apollo - he is extremely, intensely aware of his roles and responsibilities which is why anyone who knows him also knows that he'd never abandon his station. Even when he leaves for Hyperborea to rest, he is extremely punctual about returning. That said, the circumstances under which he disappeared... he was not himself after Hyacinth's death and he certainly wasn't in his right mind either. The jury is very split on whether something happened to him and now he's lost or needs a rescue (which would be difficult considering no one can find him anywhere) or if he's pulling a Demeter and decided to damn the world in his grief. Since no one's seen him in years and there's that whole 'end of the world' thing going on more people currently believe the latter than the former.

There are a few alternate theories as to what happened to him as well - that he went searching for - or even found - death like he had begged Zeus for, or that his grief metamorphised him into a tree or animal of some sort and that if they could find whatever he's turned into, they could use that to help restore the divine order. The point is, everyone is looking for him but not many people actually want to find him for fear of learning the truth behind his absence.

2025 TBR Challenge

Rules: post 9 books you'd like to read in 2025

So, I saw the post made by @girldante (sorry if I tagged you but your post inspired me to join the challenge...) and I decided to make this challenge just for the sake of making a first list of books I want to read this year (hoping I'll manage to read the same number of books I reached last year).

These are all books I bought towards the end of the year or found at home. The first three books are from authors I discovered last year. I read already something from Ortese and Rea but not from La Capria so, let's see how it will be.

Also, it's been years since I read something from Hugo, it's time to see if older me can appreciate him better now (last time I read something from him I was 18 and it was the first time ever too so...uhm, yeah, I think it's time to re-evaluate him).

Don't mind about Pasolini and Calvino being placed like that haha. I'm planning to read almost everything they wrote and I want to read at least ONE book from them each year (that or switching to Levi and Buzzati once I'm not able to read something from them).

Please imagine there's a tenth spot dedicated to the last two books of The Mirror Visitor. I'm planning to read them too this year but I would have cheated by putting both of them here 😅

would you ever consider writing a fic that takes place years after the sand pest, where daniil and artemy are older men(old gay love hits different)? i love your brain btw

truly it does now on one hand Would Love To on another, more wicked hand, I like a little conflict in my fics especially when I can go Grammatically/Vocabularily/Syntactically "Silly With It" (cf. ATA, TA&AT & ASEFSW mostly), and the Pest and her Weird Shit is idealllll for Getting Silly With It.... I don't think I'd be able to carry a fic where they're gay and in love and things are Mostly Probably fine for long for I really struggle with like. Quick small fics. cf ATA I'm afraid. I've made such fics before (CVL[...] is under 3k, two of my three peterstakhs are under 10k) but i still have Other ideas for something Silly...

i always have Aether thoughts. Just the basics today, though hehehe (i will try to put them in actual phrases)

Aether sitting down with Air after he got summoned, asking if it was normal for an airghoul to have pain like Zephyr (I just think he hasn't met many airghouls in the pit).

Aether reading out loud for the pack, because secretly they all love it (especially Dew). It's just the fact that Dew gets to listen to Aeths voice for so long (who wouldn't like that?)

Aether sleeping till midday after spending the night in the infirmary. He wakes up to Swiss next to him in his bed. Swiss was also awake the whole night, just because he has troubles with sleeping and needed a big, soft quintghoul to finally get the rest he needs.

Aether looking at Swiss and pulling the multi closer, earning a loud purr for that. He will stay in bed for at least two more hours, just so Swiss will finally rest completely.

I never thought about it, but probably yes!

Probably after Season 5 when Li Jing makes the mistake of calling Huiying a bastard because Spicynoodles never actually filled out a marriage certificate or did the three bows ceremony. Heaven just threw Xiaotian at Red and left.

DBK insists on a wedding when he hears about this and Xiaotian agrees because he doesn't actually have wedding robes, just funeral robes. Huiying is the flower/ring bearer, with a trained monkey pulling her in a cart full of flowers.

And she is adorable.

Thoughts about the last day or so, while relaxing herself, would be interrupted by an incredibly surprising turn of events.

"... Mama?" That was completely unexpected to a point she considered the possibility of hearing things Meilu deeply wanted, not what Eros had just said to her. "Eros, did you just call me mum?" she simply had to confirm and asked in a kind tone of voice.

"Miss Meilu?" Now that sounded more like Eros, so this wasn't a dream? He really did say 'hey mama' to her? To avoid flustering the young one she would smile and answer his question about getting food together. "I would love too. Do you have a place in mind or shall we have a little walk around to find what takes our fancy?" The timing of mentioning food was perfect as chances were high that all of her thoughts about being called 'mama' may distract the elder dragon enough distraction that she might forget to eat.

Being on both I definitely accidentally did it a few times, but here we go!

In TSP, Lexi ended up finding herself to be acearo. Is this because she used to be my point of projection, and even when I changed her personality this part is a leftover? Well, yes.

Jedi and Wendy are also acearo.

Alex is asexual and I think biromantic. Parker is the opposite: aromantic but bisexual. I think Ewan is demisexual (but I'm unsure about romantic orientation).

In SOTL, I have many as well. Stevie and Billie are asexual though I'm unsure about romantic orientation for either. Eros is acearo. This is all so far since SOTL is early in development but I'm leaving it open to more.

15. Do any of your ocs use neopronouns? Which ones?

Yes, the aforementioned Eros is also agender and after a lot of debate uses ze/zir/zem pronouns. I considered xe/xem/xir and e/em/eir for a bit before settling.

SOTL has several genderqueer characters but so far Eros is the only one with neopronouns. At least that's the way it is for now. Will this change? Maybe. Again, SOTL is in the early stages of development.
