Kings of Convenience Launch First American Tour in 12 Years at Webster Hall
Kings of Convenience â Webster Hall â October 23, 2023
Hygge is a Scandinavian term that the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines as a âa cozy quality that makes a person feel content and comfortable.â Since their 2001 debut, Quiet Is the New Loud, longtime Norwegian folk-pop duo Kings of Convenience have been composing your perfect autumnal soundtrack for more than two decades, which comes as no a surprise as they hail from the land of coziness. As New Yorkers are hunkering down due to a run of rainy weekends and darker nights, Erlend Ăye and Eirik Glambek Bøe are here to chase away any impending seasonal depression. The pair landed Stateside to perform after a long absence, opening their American tour with the first of two sold-out shows at Webster Hall on Monday night.
A rousing ovation erupted as Ăye stepped to the edge of stage and then the crowd quickly hushed as the duo strummed intoâComb My Hair. They played mostly from the 2021 album Peace or Love, their fourth LP but first in 12 years. The combo of âLove Is a Lonely Thingâ and the snap-inspiring âCatholic Countryâ was missing Feistâs guest vocals, so concertgoers were asked to help sing along on another Feist collab, âKnow How,â from Riot on an Empty Street.
An electric guitarist and drummer joined for the tail end of the set to really get everyone in the room grooving. On âFever,â Bøe removed a small keyboard from its stand to play closer to the front row. (A fan in the balcony yelled, âYou are my therapy,â which was especially validating since Bøe studied clinical psychology for seven years.) The tempo increased for fan-favorite âIâd Rather Dance with Youâ as the disco ball was fully activated to twinkle over the room. The two returned to the stage for a final encore of â24-25,â sending their longtime fans snugly into the crisp New York City night.
(Kings of Convenience play Webster Hall again tonight.)

Expect the Unexpected
As I walk through the venue and when Kings Of Convenience is finally tuned in Comb My Hair, as an opening song, I realized that Erlend is right. He said âLife is long and world is small, our paths will crossed some other timeâ and itâs true. Weâre all gonna meet somehow sometime in different special ways. Some in persons, some just in a sight even you wouldnt realized it, some in words through a book, in lyrics through a song, or even in energies/spirit through a music concert just like that night. And thatâs all happen also for certain reasons that you alone can answer it.
But the thing is will we be ready for that? For the truth behind that crossing paths?
Of course no. Even those 2 women who got purposed by their gentlemen in the middle of the show were not ready to be the luckiest women that night. -werenât they?
When I hit my way back to Airport to catch my flight home, I wonder how beautiful these past 3 days. I happened to cross a path with several different people. Some are good old friends that gave me the warmth from those days, some are new friends even we just met for a minute, that I hope I will get another great experiences with them, a stranger that surprisingly I could be so chatty after I spent a daylight alone, a person who made me into hard days unintentionally -I guess, and another friend who share his recent unlucky love story. Again, I wasnât ready for every single thing that happened. Even I wasnât ready to finally see Erlend and Eirik played the strings right before my eyes, I was shivering and nearly drop a tear đ. But at the end weâre all going through it. And itâs a blessed that we could feel those unexpected feelings. It may good, it may bad. But at the end youâll see it why. Just hang on until the end.
Expect the unexpected. I didnt expect that KOC would get 24-25 into their set list until the end of the show. Right the end of the encore song.
Expect the unexpected. Thatâs all anything ever is. Hope weâll be lucky with it.

Kings Of Convenience - Peace Or Love (2021)
Kings Of Convenience â Peace Or Love (2021)
Songs You May Have Missed #731
Kings of Convenience: âI Donât Know What I Can Save You Fromâ (2001) From Kevin Maidmentâs Amazon.com album review: Although Kings of Convenience are keen to play down any blatantly self-evident similarities to Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, and Belle and Sebastian, the winsome and placidity-favoring Norwegian duo of Erlend Oye and Eirik Glambek Boe have probably already got the subwayâŚ

Bergen, Norway -- Kings of Convenience returns with their first new music in a decade. The duo (Eirik Glambek Bøe and Erlend Ăye) announced last week that their new album Peace or Love will be released on June 18 via EMI Records and theyâve shared new single âRocky Trailâ. The new track sounds absolutely seamless from the timelessness of their 2009 album Declaration of Dependence, like the song is an extension of the records. Kings of Convenienceâs songwriting is impeccable as always with tight orchestral layers that still give the track a looseness. From the fluttering strings to the light touch of the xylophones, âRocky Trailâ perfectly captures the calm in chaos - especially the serenity that can wash over you.
Tracklist:
1. Rumours 2. Rocky Trail 3. Comb My Hair 4. Angel 5. Love Is A Lonely Thing 6. Fever 7. Killers 8. Ask for Help 9. Catholic Country 10. Song About It 11. Washing Machine
