Original request | Would it be possible for you to write a fanfiction about Eric Nam where you are insecure about yourself and Namnation recently got to know about your relationship with Eric. They joked about your figure and Eric doesnt know. He find you closing off from him often. You try to keep this away from him cause you didnt want him to be upset with nam nation. He finds out what's wrong and comforts you.

You knew what you were getting into. You knew that your relationship with Eric would be devastating to some fans. You knew that some of them would even do everything in their power to break the two of you up. And what if a few of them make sure you are doubting about the relationship, about yourself but also about the way you and Eric handle the relationship?.

''What are thinking about?''. Eric sits down on the other side of the table with his breakfast, quickly glazing at the clock to make sure he is on time. Eric is the softest, kindest, and the most amazing guy you ever met. Even when he has to hurry, he always makes sure he leaves a happy girlfriend at home to come back to.

''Nothing really, so today...new song?'', you ask as you take a sip from your strawberry tea. Eric has been spending a lot of time in the studio lately, and less spending time at home and with you.

''Yeah, kinda excited about it. But I'm also writing more songs, so we will see what today will bring. You have an appointment with your friend right?''.

You shake your head, she texted you last night that she is sick, so apparently, you have a day to fill in by yourself. ''Nope, just by myself today. I'm going to do the laundry and maybe clean the kitchen''. Eric stands up, bringing his plate to the sink. He returns, placing his hands on your shoulders as he leans down. He places a kiss on your cheek. ''Go outside baby, the weather is amazing today. Go for a walk, treat yourself to a few things''. You chuckle and give him a kiss on the lips.

''I will, I promise''.

Eric was right, the weather is beautiful. The blue sky and sun are making up for a lot of things. People instantly brighten up once the sun is shining. And you feel the same way. You step into your favorite coffee shop, ordering yourself a coffee and a piece of their amazing carrot cake. After paying, you exit the shop and walk towards the park. Once seated, you take a bite of the cake while watching people walk by. Some alone, some with their kids, some with their dog, and also together. You instantly feel a feeling of being alone washing over you. You miss him. You want to do this with him. But you also know, his career is important. You don't want him to think that you are egoistically putting yourself over his career.

As you drink your coffee, you notice your phone being led up with notifications. Raising your eyebrow as you unlock your phone, you blocked notifications on Instagram and Twitter. But it can also be something else right?. Wishful thinking.

You scroll through the comments, one more damaging than the other, some even threatening. A few weeks ago, you tried to block it, mentally. Your relationship with Eric is more worth it than some fans not accepting that he is a grown man falling in love. But you get pulled in every damn day, pulled in to read those comments like a magnet. Eric doesn't know, and you don't want him to know. Scared of what he might do or say, they are his fans after all. You even closed yourself off from him, distancing yourself more and more from Eric.

You scroll further, stopping at a few of them.

''Have you seen her figure? It's ridiculous''.

''I don't understand why Eric loves her, I mean look at us, we are way more pretty''.

''I think she needs help''.

''I expected more from Eric to be honest''.

''Who knows it is just a stunt?''.

You lock your phone, putting it back in the pocket of your jeans as you stand up and throw away your trash. You walk towards the waterside, leaning over the railing watching the ducks chase each other, the small boats sail on the water and the high-rise buildings on the other side of the river. What if life was so easy?. What if Eric chooses his fans?. What if you are the reason his career is coming to a stop?.

''Talk to me'', Eric says as he slides next to you in bed, covering your body with the blankets making sure you don't get cold during the night. He wraps his arms around your waist, holding you in place as he leans with his chin on your arm. You shake your head.

''No babe, go get some sleep, you had a busy day'', you whisper, giving him a weak smile as you turn around, facing him. Eric sighs, he presses a kiss on your forehead and lays on his back. Eventually, he turns on his side, his back facing you and a tear makes its way over your cheek down your chin. You don't want him to feel this way, you don't want him to worry but you also know you can't tell him. What would he think? Will he agree with them?. You eventually fall asleep with the negative thoughts clouding your mind.

Eric wakes up earlier than you, he steps out of bed quietly, not wanting to wake you up at this hour. He places the blankets over you and walks into the bathroom to start his morning routine. After a few minutes, he walks into the kitchen, making himself a cup of coffee. He scrolls through Instagram and Twitter as he waits for his coffee to be done. He grabs a mug from the cabinet and pours himself a big cup of coffee. He takes place at the kitchen island, slowly sipping the hot coffee as he keeps up with the latest news and gossip online.

Eric puts his mug down coming across one tweet, reading it multiple times to even understand what it is about. Still in his underwear, he jogs towards the bedroom. He sits on the mattress next to you, caressing your face with his fingers waking you up in the process.

''Morning baby, had a good sleep?'', he asks, and you nod slowly still not fully awake. You turn on your back, holding your arms up to him, indicating you want a hug. He leans forward, you wrap your arms around his neck and he presses a kiss on your cheek. ''Morning love'', you whisper. ''You are early''. You glance at the clock, 06:30.

''Yeah, couldnt sleep anymore''. You hum, patting the space next to you, inviting him to get back into bed. Eric chuckles and crawls back under de covers, you immediately place your head on his chest as he wraps an arm around your waist. ''Babe, is there something you want to talk about? You've been avoiding me, mostly after I come back from work. If there is anything going on, I want to know''. You shake your head, not wanting him to know what is going on.

''You sure there is nothing going on and I'm worried about nothing?''. You nod again, making yourself comfortable again against his body, pulling the covers over your body.

You let your head fall, a few tears welling up and you try to swallow the lump in your throat. Eric sits up, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, lifting your head with his fingers under your chin. A concerned look is all you see. His eyes are staring into yours and you can't look away from him.

''So I have to let you lie to me more? Honey, I know what is going on''. You get up from your position, a shocked expression covering your face as you stare at him. The only thing he does is wave his phone in the air. ''I'm also on Twitter and Instagram babe''.

''Tell me what is going on''.

Without thinking any longer, your body gives up, your brain decides to let everything out and you can't hold it any longer.

''Since the beginning of our relationship, at least when you announced it, I get negative messages. They are making me insecure about my body, about our relationship saying I don't deserve you and sometimes I think that it is true. They are mentioning my weight, my body and why you even love someone like me. I got threats that they would look for me at concerts. I went outside yesterday and even then I was scared that they would be there. I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to be upset with your fans, I rather have you being upset with me instead of them''.

Eric listens to you, rambling out everything that happened the past couple of months. He understands why you have been distancing yourself from him in a way, that you don't want to talk about what is going on. But he worries about the way Namnation is handling his happiness.

''Come here''.

He wraps his arms around your body, pulling you with him as he lies down on the mattress. You place your head on his chest, his hand on your thigh which he places over his hips. Your hand finds its way to his chest.

''Don't listen to them. You are the most beautiful girl I've ever met. You know it took me a while to talk to you, to ask you out and I'm so happy I did. You are a beautiful woman. In my eyes, they are some jealous ass bitches that can't handle the truth. They can't handle the fact that I'm not their boyfriend. I'm human and things happen. Sometimes they act like I'm theirs and it is true, they are my fans and I'm happy with them but they will never ever decide who I'm seeing or dating. Never''. He presses a few kisses on your forehead. ''I'm sorry that you had to go through this without help baby girl, if you only told me from the beginning that this was going on''.

''I'm sorry'', you whisper, the tears streaming down your cheeks ending up his chest. He chuckles. ''For what? Protecting my fans? Because that is what you did. I love you, baby, no one is going to change that, no one''. You look at him, you both stare at each other and Eric leans forward.

''I love you beautiful'', he whispers before placing his lips against yours.

Only if you knew how much he loves you if you only knew that the song he's been working on, is for you. Eric promises himself to never let this happen again, not to you.

[KPop Review] Eric Nam - The Other Side EP

It’s finally dropped!

After being teased since the 10th of July via Twitter and text messages, Eric Nam’s long-anticipated 4th mini-album, “The Other Side,” was finally released everywhere on the 30th of July. The EP comes almost eight months after the release of his first English mini-album, “Before We Begin,” which was released in November 2019. ‘The Other Side” is comprised of four new songs, including the upbeat title track “Paradise” and the Korean version of “Love Die Young,” my favourite song to date by the Atlanta born-and-raised artist.

One of the things I love the most about Eric Nam is how raw and honest he is when it comes to his work. His honesty isn’t only reflected in the content of his lyrics but can be seen in his music videos, podcasts and all other social media content he curates for his fans.

In a nutshell, “The Other Side” explores feelings of looking at someone’s life being happy and perfect but not knowing the struggles and sorrows they may be facing. Let’s look at each track individually.

The comeback album’s first song, “Trouble With You,” opens with fresh sounds that give us a preview of the feel for the rest of the song. Accompanied by heavy synths different from Eric’s previous releases, the short track expresses wanting to give everything to someone even if he knows that, perhaps, it won’t be reciprocated.

Following up is the mini-album’s title track, “Paradise,” a funky, catchy song where Eric delivers a message we can all relate with during these quarantine times. When we think of home, we associate it as being our sanctuary or paradise — a place to unwind and do things we enjoy comfortably. Since the beginning of the pandemic, however, we find ourselves forced to bring the outside world into our home. We bring work and its related stress to the very place we used to forget all about it. Time at home feels like an eternity, making us feel “lost in this paradise.” There was a time when we craved staying home to enjoy our time, but now we crave of going outside and feeling free once again. This is seeing things from “The Other Side,” the side we once thought looked greener than where we were.

In the music video, we see many versions of Eric Nam perfectly showcasing the theme of the album. When a “quarantined Eric” sees “celebrity Eric” on TV, he wishes his life were as perfect as his. He gets the remote advertised by TV Eric in hopes to transform his life magically into the “Paradise” life he belives TV Eric to live. Upon meeting face to face, TV Eric tries to warn ordinary Eric to “vis ta vie,” French for “live your life,” before he drinks the magic tea. Ignoring the message, ordinary Eric drinks the tea and falls asleep. After waking up, he and all other alternative Erics eventually realize that it isn’t all as perfect as it seemed. In the end, we are transported together with Eric back to when the remote first arrived. He decides not to use it after all and goes on to live his life to achieve being his “best reflection” on his own.

In “잘 지내지 | How You Been,” the EP’s third track, Eric once again shows us the power of his voice. The heartfelt lyrics of wondering how an ex-lover is doing are delivered through synths and a calm piano. I would love to hear an acoustic version of this song.

The last original song in the album, “Down For You,” is my favourite track of the five. It has an EDM vibe that makes me want to get up and dance and tell my person that all I look forward to is to the moment when we can be together again. I wish I could say the fifth and final song, “Love Die Young (Korean Version),” is my favourite from the album but I just don’t feel it as much as I did its English counterpart. I absolutely adore the English version and can say it’s one of my top three favourite songs of him, but I feel like the Korean version just doesn’t do it justice. It doesn’t make me cry the same.

Overall, I enjoyed his album as I have everything else he has released. I am so happy to have some fresh NamNam sounds and already am looking forward to what he will do next.
