Music and comedy have long been close bedfellows. Music is a natural and immediate form of storytelling, and ultimately that’s what comedy is about, even the surrealist slapstick variety. The variety comedy acts of the music hall cemented this tradition firmly in the British mindset (George Formby, Jake Thackray, Flanders and Swann etc), and Monty Python’s Flying Circus was music hall for the popular medium of television. Each show offered skits and sketches that could be good, bad, ugly and legendary. Sometimes within the space of a few minutes. As well Gilliam’s inspired distinctive visual palette, music has always been an important part of Monty Python’s unique legacy. It helps that they had access to excellent musicians and arrangers, such as Neil Innes (of Bonzo Dog DooDah Band fame), André Jacquemin and John Altman. But I wonder if music wouldn’t have taken such central theme in their comedy if they hadn’t had a decent songwriter and musician amongst their midst: Eric Idle. Aside from their most famous song (and another Idle composition) Always Look On The Bright Side of Life, there is a veritable cornucopia of Python songs on this comp, ranging from songs from the movies: Every Sperm Is Sacred, Meaning Of Life, Galaxy Song and Knights Of The Round Table, the plain silly ones: Sit On My Face, Spam Song, I’ve Got Two Legs, and the brilliantly witty Penis Song and Bruce’s Philosophers Song. There are those that grate a little, the joke not really bearing repeated listening: All Things Dull And Ugly and Oliver Cromwell are my least favourite, and I would gladly have swapped them for Yangste Kiang from Previous Record. But however thin the premise of some (Decomposing Composers) there are classics like the Lumberjack Song as well as lesser known gems such as the Accountancy Shanty, Henry Kissinger and the truly wonderful national anthem-in-waiting: Finland. En mi calidad de becario del Diplomado Virtual en Manejo de Crisis promovido por La Fundación Konrad Adenauer Montevideo y el Centro de Análisis y Entrenamiento Político (CAEP), he desarrollado en la Materia #10 el tema “estrategia digital en una crisis”, por lo que permito compartir lo siguiente: 10 soluciones para 10 errores 1. No saber manejar las emociones negativas: Error: Dar instrucciones en momentos de enojo causado por estrés resulta contraproducente. Los empleados podrían sentirse intimidados y los clientes quedarse con la mala imagen de alguien incapaz de lidiar con la frustración. Solución: Para atender este problema existen talleres de coaching , individuales o grupales, que ayudan a desarrollar la inteligencia emocional. 2. Decir una palabra y negarlo con el cuerpo: Error: Los movimientos corporales pueden dar un mensaje contrario al que se quiere transmitir con las palabras. Dar un saludo débil o evitar el contacto visual con las personas puede ser interpretado como inseguridad y dificultar la comunicación. Solución: No se trata de fingir las poses, sino de ser natural. Intenta mantener el cuerpo y las facciones relajadas, dice Eric Jacquemin, analista en V Consultores. “Ofrece a tu interlocutor un semblante apacible que genere confianza para externar comentarios”. 3. Decir “yo” y no “nosotros”: Error: Cuando un CEO comunica los logros de la empresa a título personal, perjudica la comunicación interna en la firma y su propia imagen. Los empleados, al sentirse excluidos, serán menos participativos en la toma de decisiones y en la planeación de nuevos proyectos. Solución: La simple frase: “Nosotros hemos logrado” motivará a los empleados a participar más, dice Félix Palacio, socio director de Fair Play Consulting. 4. Mal uso y redacción de mails: Error: Enviar correos para suplir llamadas telefónicas o reuniones no es el mejor canal, sobre todo si se trata de dar una noticia difícil. Pueden pasar días sin que el receptor lea el contenido. Además, si está mal redactado o con mala ortografía, no se entenderá y dará una imagen poco profesional.
