as much as i agree with your analysis and the fact that ctdenm seems to be treating the girls better, a part of me can’t help but worry that similar things are happening behind the scenes, much like how bbc seemed to be a relatively healthy and positive working environment early on

The myth that bbc was healthy and positive early on simply isn't true, sadly. Even recently, Vivi talked on the radio show she did about predebut stories, about how she learnt Korean quickly by arguing with staff so she could eat what she wanted amongst fighting for her other rights - and this would've been back in late 2015 early 2016. When trainee line (Basically oec, 1/3 and yeojin) were in the company before joining loona officially, that was when they were on the infamous 1 apple 1 egg a day diet. Even though yyxy were the most open about their mistreatment, that it was the worst during love4eva filming, and bad during hi high era and butterfly era, it was still bad before yyxy girls joined - the other girls are just far less open about it. This might be because the yyxy girls had such a short trainee period and therefore weren't as adjusted/indoctrinated into the trainee lifestyle to accept strict dieting and verbal abuse, or it might be because it's simply not in their temperament to talk about these issues, or whatever reasons they might have to want to share less in comparison to the yyxy girls, though yeojin and vivi have been opening up more about the past. I'm curious, did you have a specific time period where you thought BBC was a healthy working environment for the girls in mind?

If youre thinking about old loona TVs, BBC has always had staff that were very kind to the girls, that the girls loved and treated them well. The current CTD CEO, Yoon Doyeon is an example, as well as Lee Jonghyun, their old Project Manager and current Superbell CEO. At the same time they had to endure verbal abuse from certain other staff (this doesn't mean Jaden, there were other staff who were horrible or even worse than him), strict dieting and torturous schedules amongst other mistreatment that went beyond ordinary idol strictness. The loona TVs always made a deceptive effort to show the girls eating well early on, laughing and having fun etc, but we know it's a complete misrepresentation compared to what was happening behind the scenes.

When we have the girls transparently telling us via Fromm and Fab that CTD do not control or care what they eat, that they are 100% deciding for themselves, that exercise is up to them, that CTD's CEO paid for almost everything in Hyunjin's new apartment including a super expensive humidifier just because she asked for one, that CTD involved them in the album despite how quickly the album needed to be turned out because CEO cares about their creative input, it inspires a lot more trust.

I genuinely believe Doyeon is a good man who wants to take care of our girls. He gave up his job and started a company to become CEO in a role he had never tried before solely to give the 5 members a place where they would be safe and happy with someone they trusted (instead of risking getting taken advantage of again at another company) and could continue their careers, and has been listening to everything both the members and fans have been asking of him. I know Hyeju has said that this album prep era has been her favourite of her career, and I believe her. Right now the girls are actually enjoying their time in the US, eating whatever they like, having enough time for rest, actually seeing the sights of America this time. It's only the first stop but hopefully they can keep this up and have this experience knock the previous tour out of the water.

We can't trust a company 100% of the time without being there and witnessing exactly what's happening, but compared to Modhaus where we had Jaden lie to us about Jinsoul being involved in production in literally their first interview, exercises and diets being enforced, and OEC being marketed to NFT bros and military men, I just feel so much more confident about CTD's ability to treat the girls right.

LOONA 1/3:

Heejin, Hyunjin, Haseul, Yeojin e Vivi são garotas normais que vivem em nosso mundo, mas foram escolhidas para fazer parte do Loonaverse. No MV da Heejin, ViviD, ela meio que nos apresenta ao Loona. No MV da Hyunjin, Around You, vemos ela com uma paixão, mas não consegue se declarar e se sente mal por isso. Em Let me In, vemos Haseul em um conflito interno, onde parece que ela tenta matar uma parte da personalidade dela mesma, e aparentemente quando consegue ela meio que se arrepende (nesse MV podemos ver que Haseul está em um carro dirigido por "ninguém", mas na verdade era uma das meninas do OEC que estava dirigindo {podemos ver o mesmo carro em Girl Front}, elas tentam ajuda-la em seu conflito, mas como não é a mesma dimensão, Haseul não as vê). Em Kiss Later, vemos Yeojin em um mundo de "sonhos" que mostra que ela meio que se perdeu das outras meninas, ela acabou parando em um outro mundo. No MV da Vivi, vemos as memórias dela de quando ela era humana, onde aparece um garoto, mas na verdade, esse garoto é a Yves (pois no MV de New, mostra elas fazendo exatamente as mesmas coisas que a Vivi fez com o crush), ela modificou a história para si mesma, sendo assim a Yves seria um garoto na história dela. No MV de Love&Live, Vivi é um android, e quer ser normal de novo, ela está livre no mundo, porém se sente presa em si mesma, ela quer voltar a sentir as coisas dos humanos.

ODD EYE CIRCLE:

Em Eclipse, Kim Lip invoca um eclipse, ela quer encontrar Jinsoul para reunir todas as meninas do Loonaverse. Em Sing in the Rain, Jinsoul aparenta estar "presa", ela parece estar fugindo de algo ou alguém. Em Love Cherry Motion, Choerry parece estar saindo da dimensão de OEC e está indo para a dimensão de 1/3, ela esta junto com Haseul e Yeojin, mas Kim Lip (após encontar Jinsoul), encontra Choerry e chama ela para se juntar a OEC. Nesse MV tbm vemos que Choerry tem poder de se transportar entre as dimensões quando come uma cereja, e pode ver e achar todas as garotas do Loonaverse atravéz de seus espelhos (tanto que ela vê o espelho dela mesma, uma outra versão dela mesma). Em Girl Front, OEC se juntam e começam a procurar as outras garotas (no mapa da Choerry vemos os adesivos dos animais que as meninas representam), (tbm, nesse MV, vemos várias versões delas mesma, que podem ser por elas estarem viajando pelo tempo e pelas dimensões). Sweet Crazy Love se passa antes de OEC se juntar, nele mostra elas descobrindo seus poderes (nele tem uma cena importante onde alguém tira o fone de ouvido da Jinsoul). Em Loonatic, vemos uma garota correndo em volta de OEC enquanto as mesmas fazem cara de "nojo", que seria a Yves, (pois ela que tem o toca fitas, que ela dá para Vivi depois), esse toca fitas seria "mágico", que teria sido usado para OEC se teleportar junto (tbm, em New, Yves troca os ALL STAR brancos do OEC pelos sapatos do YYXY).

YYXY:

YYXY se passa no Éden, lá vive Olivia Hye, ela possui múltipla personalidade, ela possui a fé (Yves), o amor (Chuu), a esperança (GoWon) e a raiva (ela mesma) (YYXY são a mesma pessoa pois podemos ver em "one" e é reforçado em Love4eva, pois na cena em que todas estão dançando, na verdade era apenas Olivia {que quando juntas, estava feliz, mas ao estar sozinha se sente incapaz, apesar de receber aplausos, não sente como tivesse feito um bom trabalho}). Yves quer sair do Éden, ela quer ser livre, então ela come o fruto proibido, a maçã, porém ela não pode cair do Éden pois ela é parte da Olivia, então ela tenta persoadir as suas outras personalidades para que todas comam do fruto proibido e caiam juntas. A Chuu, Yves convenceu facilmente, pois Chuu era apaixonada por Yves (estranho, pois se parar pra pensar, ela se apaixonou por ela mesma kkkkk), enfim, Yves não dava bola para Chuu, mas quando Chuu viu que Yves comeu o fruto proibido logo quis tbm, assim ela comeu do morango, seu próprio fruto proibido, e assim Yves passou a nota-la, (porém, a cena em que elas aparecem juntas em Heart Attack é um sonho da Chuu). A GoWon foi mais difícil de convencer, ela estava indecisa se comia ou não o fruto proibido, então Yves pediu ajuda a Choerry, entregando em New, uma maçã para ela, que Choerry entrega para GoWon. No final de One&Only, GoWon come do Abacaxi, seu fruto, e sua cor de cabelo muda (como em uma borboleta que sai do casulo, ela evoluiu) e ela é coroada por Yves rainha de si mesma, mostrando que pode ser quem quiser. Em Love4eva, todas estão fugindo da "escola" (que é como se fosse o Éden, um lugar cheio de regras) para ir ao jardim do Éden secretamente e deixam Olivia para traz, porém GoWon olha para traz, e encara Olivia (por isso GoWon é o X em YYXY, pois ela é o intermediário entre Yves e Chuu para Olivia Hye), tbm mostra que as meninas não gostam de Olivia, a excluem, pois ela quer ficar no Éden, porém no final do MV, vemos que Olivia vai para o jardim, talvez procurando oq as outras acham de tão interessante lá, oq ela não entende. Mas aí vem a história da Olivia Hye, ela não queria sair do Éden, então Yves meio que a empurrou (como vemos em Egoist, Yves solta Olivia) então Olivia come do fruto obrigada por Yves (por isso em Egoist, quando Olivia come sua fruta seus lábios sangram, pois ela não queria come-la), então todas caiem do Éden juntas e ao mesmo tempo, e assim que caem, elas se separam e não são mais a mesma pessoa, e sim pessoas diferentes. Quando Yves cai do Éden, se passa a história de Everyday I Love You. Quando Chuu cai do Éden, quem a acorda em Heart Attack, é a Haseul (que está com as roupas do The Carol, ou seja, é exatamente no mesmo "natal"). Ainda em Egoist, Olivia se revolta com Yves, e tenta encontrá-la de qualquer forma, então ela procura OEC (ai vem a cena do fone de ouvido da Jinsoul), foi a Olivia que tirou os fones da Jinsoul, ela estava atrás da Jinsoul em Sing in the Rain, ela a capturou e deu cerejas a ela para que ela se teleportasse e encontrasse a Yves, porém, ela não era a Choerry (que não a ajudaria por ser cúmplice de Yves), então não conseguiu nada de Jinsoul. Vivi acaba resgatando Jinsoul (em Everyday I Need You), e com raiva, Olivia transforma Vivi em android (ai vem a história de Love&Live). (Outro motivo pelo qual Olivia pode ter transformado Vivi em android foi pq Vivi tinha ligação com Yves, e Olivia queria vingança, então juntou o útil ao agradável e "matou" Vivi).

Depois que YYXY caem na terra, que se passa a história de 1/3, e enquanto se passa essa, se passa OEC tentando se encontrar, após Jinsoul ser libertada e Kim Lip procurar por ela e por Choerry.

Not really sure where I’m going with this but here are some thoughts on yyxy:

The placement of yyxy, whose ‘Neoanthropinae genes’ are emphasised both in writing and in their logo, in a European country with a white teacher with references to Christianity woven through the lore is really interesting to me, because it feels like yyxy rejecting Eden is essentially yyxy rejecting a society that they really weren’t made for.

Of course, the fact that the girls are all Asian (Koreans, specifically) can’t really be removed from the lore, even if their characters aren’t necessarily human. Obviously with all of the gayness (Chuu’s crush), sapphic-coding (ViVi and Yves) and possible sapphic subtext (Go Won looking back for Olivia Hye, who then has to embrace herself), it’s easy to just say “gay girls reject religion”, but I feel like it’s something of a disservice to ignore the fact that they aren’t white.

What’s interesting to me is that it seems like the teacher’s main focus is on Yves (the troublemaker of the group) and Olivia Hye (the obedient student who stays). We see her yelling at the last three members through Chuu’s eyes, but given that it happens between Yves being scolded for sneaking out and Yves leading Chuu away, we can assume that her focus is still on Yves.

Which means that Chuu and Go Won practically fade into the background of love4eva outside of their interactions with Yves and Olivia Hye respectively. The fact that the Teacher doesn’t focus on them in apposition to the fact that Chuu and Go Won don’t have European names insinuates something I haven’t really seen being talked about: the idea that Yves and Olivia Hye are being favoured for their proximity to whiteness (of course not trying to say that Yves or Olivia Hye are white).

This concept makes smaller details - like Yves and Olivia Hye being on either end of a typical lineup (such as uniform inspection) or Yves, when she accepts herself, cutting off some nametags with the English (rather than Hangul) form of her name (her English name is also in the bowling alley; however by the end, the alley is being filled with fog and the camera no longer faces the sign) - take on a new meaning.

This also brings the culmination of their characters to a nice conclusion: in love4eva’s description, we are told that yyxy ‘all come to a realization that ego isn’t decided or made by someone else, but is complete by loving oneself’. Where yyxy begin their story as obedient students (notably a common stereotype for Asians), they learn to break free from the taboos and expectations of Eden by embracing themselves, creating their own identities (yes, even Chuu learns to love herself though her infatuation with Yves).

However there are some details which make me hesitant to say this was intentional. The main one is Go Won’s hair changing from black to blonde when she accepts herself. Don’t get me wrong, she absolutely makes it work, but blonde hair is universally understood to be a ‘white’ feature, given that most blond people are white. I don’t really like to get personal on here but as a half-Asian person who grew up thinking she wasn’t really pretty because she had brown eyes and dark hair (and yes, fully white people may struggle with this but it’s not in the same way), something doesn’t sit right with me. It would have been nice to see her go from blonde to black to be honest.

(Also why did they bleach her hair then dye it black then go back to blonde? Doesn’t seem very organised...)

Of course, this might have to lead to scrutinising Birdseul, ViVi, Kim Lip and Jinsoul’s blonde stylings (as well as other members in later eras) if we try to view ‘deviance from whiteness’ as a running theme throughout the LOONAVERSE instead of a theme exclusively for yyxy. Plus Kim Lip and Jinsoul’s hair seems to serve more to contrast them to Choerry, with the former two being primary colours and the latter a secondary colour.

(Also funnily enough, a running theme in the LOONAVERSE is running. I guess LOONA drives more nowadays though.)

Anyway, I don’t really have a big conclusion here.

Ayoo I’m really not a good reference when it comes to kpop tbh, I got into it pretty late and I write about it just because it gives me a good base (+ I love the idols obviously) however here’s a list of my favourites songs (yes ik most of them r so popular but idk😭)

- Obviously all the title tracks (dalla dalla, icy, wannabe, not shy, mafia in the morning and loco)

- From their first mini album, honestly both songs (It’z summer and cherry) are awesome, cherry is quite popular already, it’s a classic bside from time

- On the second mini album (wannabe era), I think nobody like you is the best track, it’s good and i love the vibe from it !

- On the third mini album (not shy era), aside from the title track, surf has such great vocals and be in love is a great bside as well

- On the fourth mini album (mafia in the morning era), literally all the songs are incredible, even the girls themselves said some of the bsides coule be title tracks, my favourite remains kidding me for Ryujin’s part though but really all the tracks slap

- On their recent album (Crazy in love, Loco era), they did an awesome job honestly, I love Twenty which I consider to be one of the best bsides ever just because of Yuna’s rap part as well as gas me up who hypes me up a lot idk why and love is, I like mirror too and of course swipe which is a song that also got an mv even if it isn’t the title track

- Aespa didn’t make that much songs as they only debuted last year

- So of course the classic debut song, black mamba, will forever remain in my top songs

- Forever, which is a cover, carries such a warm vibe and with winter coming, I think it’s a perfect song !

- Next level would probably be my top pick honestly, kind of a remake of a song that already exists but Aespa really proved that they could outdo the doer, the mv is beautiful and I love that song so much

- Savage, which is their new title track, is really good, pretty experimental music, I love the song and the rap parts hit really hard !

- As for their bsides, they only have some on their recent album, they’re all good but I’d recommend lucid dream which sounds like it’s from Loona, it’s super good and pleasing to hear lolol

5. gfriend - sunrise this is partially impacted by sowon's blonde hair but i just loved everything abt the vibes here. the photoshoots, choreo, mv, song. everything just works for me. and sowon's blonde hair ofc.

4. loona - butterfly it was hard to pick a loona era honestly. while i think hi high is my favourite loona title track, butterfly is such an iconic era. especially the choreography. the mini also has some of their best bsides, and butterfly is just such a stunning song.

3. stayc - asap while i loved so bad, this was the era i really started stanning. i absolutely love all the vibes. i'm obsessed with both bsides. the live performances are everything. love fool is one of my favourite bsides of the year. i'm so excited for their upcoming cb.

2. fromis_9 - love bomb ah, the era i started stanning them. picking between this and feel good was really hard but everything about this era was so perfect to me. nakyung's hair!!! the song in general!!! i was addicted to the stages. i haven't been as into the bsides but hey.

1. twice - likey picking a twice era was almost impossible. runners up were what is love & i can't stop me. likey, however, got me through such a hard time. the album is one of my favourites of all time, i love the mv and choreo. the outfits were so cute. it's a perfect era for me.
