The star Ain, ε Tauri // Reg Pratt
The name Ain comes from the Arabic ain for "eye" as the eye of the bull, Taurus.

Epsilon Tauri: Star with Planet Image Credit & Copyright: Reg Pratt
Explanation: Epsilon Tauri lies 146 light-years away. A K-type red giant star, epsilon Tau is cooler than the Sun, but with about 13 times the solar radius it has nearly 100 times the solar luminosity. A member of the Hyades open star cluster the giant star is known by the proper name Ain, and along with brighter giant star Aldebaran, forms the eyes of Taurus the Bull. Surrounded by dusty, dark clouds in Taurus, epsilon Tau is also known to have a planet. Discovered by radial velocity measurements in 2006, Epsilon Tauri b is a gas giant planet larger than Jupiter with an orbital period of 1.6 years. And though the exoplanet can't be seen directly, on a dark night its parent star epsilon Tauri is easily visible to the unaided eye.

Planet naming conventions! This works for Star Trek fics or anywhere else, because this is one of several ways planets are named in real life.
Start with the constellation the star is in (from Earth). Say Cygnus, the swan. Put that in the possessive form (us turns to i, a turns to ae). Then the stars are named with Greek letters from the brightest to the dimmest. So the third-brightest star in Cygnus is called Gamma Cygni.
Then you can letter or number the planets. Real astronomers tend to use letters (Alpha Tauri b) whereas in Star Trek it's often Roman numerals (Ceti Alpha V). Either is fine.
Does this sound really terrocentric to you? It is! The Federation has the bad habit of naming things and keeping those names over the names given to them by the people who live there. I.e. Vulcan over T'Khasi, Kronos over Qo'noS. If you are coming up with the name the inhabitants call it, you'll want to use an alien sounding word, not this system.
(Also Delta Vega is the fourth star in the constellation Vega, not anywhere near Vulcan, which is in the Epsilon Eridani system.
Can we all just agree that where Jim gets marooned in the 2009 movie is T'Khut? It's the only place that makes sense.)

Hey could you help us? One of my Dalek alters wants to change their name because the name that they currently have was given to them by a bad person. Do you have any space/galaxy/cosmic themed names to give me? All options you post will be given to them for them to decide ^_^
⚞ Oh boy do I have some names for you! (This is just a huge list of space themed names and sense there is so many I disregarded putting the meanings next to each one but they are names of stars, planets, galaxies, and other space related things!)

general terms for groups of multiple genders by proportion
A discussion with @libragender led to the realization that there are several terms for multiple genders and for partial genders, but not many more granular terms for multiple genders or the combination of these.
My apologies for the extreme nerdiness inherent in this. I hope you will find the terms useful!
These can be used on their own or as adjectives for another term or system- it may also be useful to use shorthand terms from something like the alloy system, but I’m unsure if the creator of that system is okay with using them like that.
the list is organized like:
- identity (star namesake): explanation
dualgender:
- spicic (alpha virginis): when one has two genders of fairly similar proportions
- almazic (epsilon aurigae): when one has two genders but one is confusing or obscured
- siric (alpha canis majoris): when one has two genders of varying proportions
- procyonic (alpha canis minoris): see siric, but the proportions are counter to the standard assumption (perhaps use in conjunction with “libragender”, unless there’s a counter term?)
- miric (omicron ceti): when one has two genders that fluctuate in proportion
- cygnic (cygnus x-1): when one has either one or two genders, but a strong component of one’s gender identity is agender or demigender
trigender:
- gliesic (gliese 667): when one has three genders of fairly similar proportion
- rigikenic (alpha centuari): when one has three genders, two of which are much more prominent than the third
- polaric (alpha ursae minoris): when one has three genders, one of which is more prominent than the other two
- fomalhic (alpha piscis austrini): when one has three genders of varying proportion
- algolic (beta persei): when one has three to four genders that fluctuate in proportion
- quvidelic (qv telescopii): when one has three to five genders with some components being agender or demigenders
tetragender:
- xitauric (xi tauri): when one has four genders of fairly similar proportion
- capellic (alpha aurigae): when one has four genders, two of which are major and two of which are minor
- mizaric (zeta ursae majoris): when one has four genders of varying proportion
quingender
- dabihic (beta capricorni): when one has five genders of fairly similar proportion
- mintakic (delta orionis): when one has five genders of varying proportion
- almachic (gamma andromedae): when one has five to six genders that fluctuate in proportion
hexagender
- betucic (beta tucanae): when one has six genders of fairly similar proportion
- castoric (alpha geminorum): when one has six genders of varying proportion
- sagatic (sagittarius a*): when one has six or more genders with some components being agender or demigenders
septegender+:
- djabbanic (nu scorpii): when one has seven or more genders of fairly similar proportion
- arcassic (AR cassiopeiae): when one has seven or more genders of varying proportion
- trapezic (trapezium cluster): when one has more than seven genders that fluctuate in proportion to each other, or if one has many genders of chaotic proportions
I’d love to hear your feedback, especially if you have suggestions for things I missed or if I misuse anything! @lgbtqiarchive @variant-archive

On Sunday, 29 March around civil dusk (some 40 minutes after sunset), observers throughout the British Isles with binoculars and small telescopes can watch magnitude +3.5 naked-eye star Epsilon (&epsilon) Tauri disappear behind the darkened hemisphere of the almost 5-day-old waxing crescent Moon. Then, about 70 minutes later, UK skywatchers have the slightly more challenging job of seeing the star reappear at the bright lunar limb. Precise times depend on where you live in the British Isles as illustrated above and explained below. AN graphic by Ade Ashford.
As a gentle reminder for those of us living in the UK, British Summer Time starts at 1:00am GMT on Sunday, 29 March 2020 when the clocks go forward one hour. On that date, sunset for an observer in the heart of the UK will be 7:41pm BST. While keen observers will grumble at the prospect of waiting 60 minutes longer for darkness to fall, some solace may be found in viewing an interesting lunar occultation occurring on the first night of daylight savings time.
Epsilon (ε) Tauri is a magnitude +3.5 naked-eye star that has the proper name Ain. It is easily found almost 3.2 degrees to the northwest of first-magnitude Aldebaran, the brightest star in the constellation of Taurus, amid the stars of the loose open cluster known as the Hyades. Aldebaran, Ain and the Hyades conveniently fit in the same binocular field of view at magnifications of 10× or less. Physically, ε Tauri is an orange giant star some 147 light-years attended by a super-Jupiter exoplanet called Epsilon Tauri b, formally named Amateru.
The disappearance of Epsilon (ε) Tauri, otherwise known by the proper name Ain, at the darkened lunar limb on 29 March shouldn’t be too challenging for UK-based owners of 10× magnification binoculars and larger provided you steady the view by leaning your elbows on a low wall or fence. In any small telescope, it’s an easy observation to make. Timing, however, is everything and that depends on where you live. AN graphic by Ade Ashford.
On Sunday, 29 March around civil dusk, which is about 40 minutes after sunset for the heart of the UK, observers throughout the British Isles with clear skies can watch ε Tauri disappear behind the darkened hemisphere of the almost 5-day-old waxing crescent Moon. Skywatchers in the west of the Republic of Ireland will be first to see the star occulted a few seconds after 8:08pm, while those in Belfast and Dublin will witness it four and five minutes later, respectively.
Then, about 70 minutes later, UK skywatchers have the slightly more challenging job of seeing the star reappear at the bright lunar limb.
