Arsenal and the Title Gauntlet - Can Gunners Do It?
Ten games left for Arsenal to lift the title - can they do it? Every game in focus here, you decide for yourself.
We’ve all done it. With just ten games to go, we’ve all looked at the remaining fixtures and attempted to figure out what we’ll get and what we’ll need to lift a first title since 2004. It’s pretty futile, yep. But it hasn’t stopped any of us poring over the list has it? So, let’s do that together. We’ll go over every remaining fixture we have, we’ll try and gauge how we’ll fare and more…

PRECIOUS LOVE: CHAPTER 1 - JAMIE TARTT x YOU
summary: you finally tell someone.
word count: 1.1k
warnings: language, mention of pregnancy loss
-
chapter 1: my own worst enemy
It was a cold, wet spring morning in March. It was the annual day of grieving. You always took the day off work to give yourself time to sit at home and wallow. Thankfully, it fell on a weekend this year so you were free to be miserable all in your lonesome.
Or, at least you had planned to until the EPL fixtures messed up your plans.
Man City was coming down to London for a match. De Bryune was not playing. God forbid, not with his injury but he was more than happy to be around to provide some moral support. However, given he did not actually have a game to play, he found a nice gap in his schedule to catch up.
When he first told you, your mouth went instantly dry. He had been so excited, there was no way you could sour his mood by declining the invitation to hang out. But, you also knew your gig was up. You had managed to keep a somewhat neutral line of communication and not give anything away while you were away. There was no way you would be able to keep that up face-to-face. Especially not on the one day every year you had to be completely vulnerable with yourself.
You heard the buzzer and inhaled deeply, summoning whatever strength you had to at least keep up some facade for the next hour or so.
You opened the door to a beyond excited De Bryune. It was infectious and you could not help but smile back as he pulled you into the biggest hug, swinging you around. You squealed in response and laughed as he replaced you on the ground.
“Took you forever to find your way back. Did you get lost?” He joked, as he shrugged off his outerwear.
“Work was always busy,” you reasoned calmly. It was only a half lie. It had genuinely gotten hectic as you slowly climbed the corporate ladder. Too hectic for a trip back to England? Probably not. Afterall, you had managed multiple trips around Australia and Asia. But, it was as good an excuse as any.
“How is it being back? How have you been?”
“I’m fine,” you shrugged a response as you popped into your kitchen.
“Tea?” you offered, not really waiting for a response as you popped two mugs on the countertop and threw a teabag into each.
De Bryune looked at you funnily as he took a seat at your tiny dining table.
“Who sent you flowers?” Kevin asked conversationally upon spying the fresh bouquet in the corner of your kitchen.
“No one, I bought them,” you responded hesitantly.
“Oh, who are you giving them to?”
“N-no one.”
Kevin raised an eyebrow, “but you don’t buy flowers for yourself. You said before that it was sad and pathetic.”
Shoot, you forgot you had said that to him once. What he did not know was that you indulged in flowers once a year as a remembrance gift to Lemy.
You spun round, frown set firmly on your face as you replied a little defensively, “I didn’t mean it like that.”
Kevin laughed, raising his hands as if he was surrendering, “yes, yes, everyone changes. You’ve become prickly,” he commented and you looked up, a little put upon at being called out.
“Am I?” you asked, trying to cover over it before asking, “How is Michele? How is everything at home?”
“Good, good. She says hi. Everyone at home is wondering when you’ll come visit. Mason and Rome want to show you their new baby brother.”
“Mmhmmm,” you paled a little at the mention of his kids. You should have known there was no way this man would not mention his clan but the last thing you needed right now was any reminders of children. Or, specifically the baby you did not have.
You turned away, busying yourself with brewing the tea. De Bryune cocked his head at your odd behaviour and waited for you to join him at the table before continuing the conversation.
“So?”
“So?” you repeated.
“How’s work been?”
You quietly sighed with relief that Kevin had moved onto what felt like a ‘safe’ topic, “good, good. Busy but good. There is so much to do now and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all. Like, I’m supposed to be making some of these decisions and I don’t want to.”
You laughed a little as did he, glad to see some life in you. There was a long lull and De Bryune was slightly unsettled by how little you had to say. The friend he had would have wanted to know what every player had been up to and how they were. The friend he had would have asked about the match today. The friend he had would have asked for a detailed rundown of everything the children had been up to but there was a tension in the air that was palpable and told him that none of these topics were safe for you.
“What’s going on?” He tried again as you fidgeted endlessly with your mug.
“Nothing,” you responded, furrowing your brows. You looked up at De Bryune, stubbornly trying to prove your point but it only proved his when he saw how dull your eyes were. You looked like a shell of your warm and vibrant self.
“What?”
Oops. He might have said that last but out loud.
“You just look like a shell of yourself. What is going on?”
“Nothing,” you answered again, unconvincingly.
“Why do you keep lying to me?”
“I’m no—“ you started but De Bryune’s stern look stopped you mid-sentence.
“I’ve known you since you were 9. Why do you think I wouldn’t know? You sound like you’re lying to stay out of trouble but you’re not in trouble? Not with me, at least. You know, I’m always here for you, to help you. And if not me, you can also lean on Michele.”
You opened your mouth and then closed it again because you could not find the right words. So many years of running, so much time spent alienating them and here Kevin was treating you with such grace and love. You did not deserve this. You hung your head and you could hear him shuffle.
“I don’t know what’s going on with you but I’ll get out of your hair if that’s what you need right now.”
You felt your lower jaw slacken. It was not that you wanted to push him away, you just found it easier than talking. But if not now with Kevin, when would you ever be ready to talk?
“I was pregnant,” you mumbled quietly to yourself, more as practice at sounding the words out than anything else. The words felt weird coming from your mouth.
“What?” Kevin asked. Maybe he heard wrong.
You looked up, tears in your eyes as you repeated yourself. Your voice was shaky but the words were clear as day when you spoke, “I was pregnant.”

Match Review: Manchester United 1-0 Luton
The Iceman cometh: Victor Lindelöf struck in the 59th minute to give United the three points at home to Premier League strugglers Luton at Old Trafford, in yet another game that United should have scored several more goals...
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a929893e09a4f10bdb18db2f5adf7541/8a3f859e9d77ccbe-37/s540x810/230107f65b39df2674af94da3836e3a51ecac43c.jpg)
United started with Garnacho on the left wing and Rashford out right following a woeful showing in the previous game from Antony, and it almost paid off early on with a deflected cross from the right looping into Højlund's path, only to go directly at the keeper for a crucial save.
Luton had their chances too, with a poor Lindelof headed clearance leading to a cross straight back in at Morris - who headed on goal unchallenged by the Swede mere seconds later. An excellent save from Onana kept the visitors at bay, but his confidence won't be helped by silly mistakes like that from his defence.
A flank switch mid half saw Garnacho presented with a beautiful chance 1 on 1 with the keeper thanks to Rasmus Højlund, only for the Argentinian to cut onto his right and lose the advantage. Had he stayed on his left, rounded the keeper out wide, there was no defender to close him or stop an easy finish to give United the lead. A mistake, and an experience to learn from, but a frustration for United at a time where goals are in desperately short supply.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/09691b87547a45ee32373fa43843eb88/8a3f859e9d77ccbe-9f/s540x810/3e102c0385100838faf58f3b3b24e4d95875d2b0.jpg)
The second half was more of the same: Højlund glanced a header wide from a Bruno Fernandes free kick, United did get their goal thanks to Victor Lindelöf and a deflection off Scott McTominay to lay him off, and Rashford hit a late chance directly at keeper ))))))) that really should have gone either side of the stopper. Still, a win's a win, and a clean sheet is also incredibly valuable against a stubborn, strong team containing ex-United prospects such as Tahith Chong (pictured above) and Teden Mengi.
United's game notably improved with the introduction of Mason Mount and Scott McTominay dropping deeper. The Scot might be valued for his goal contributions this season but his traits suit being a bruising ball-winner type. He's not a stereotypical "6" but neither is he a CAM. He's too poor with his passing and positioning to suit such a role, but with Casemiro's poor form there's a huge chance for a Mount/McTominay partnership to blossom. Mount is a box-to-box creator, McTominay is a strong duellist. Both have high stamina and an eye for goal, as does Bruno Fernandes ahead of them, making this a midfield that could do good work.
As a personal aside I prefer the metronomic passing of Sofian Amrabat over McTominay, but there are enough games for both to play - even together - and to control the middle of the pitch.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a7e79c25f7764b504d32f71dd43ef875/8a3f859e9d77ccbe-67/s540x810/5256240387c5db576f6e954863f5b35840de2423.jpg)
Remarkably, United's win lifts them into 6th Place in the Premier League also means that despite the seemingly disjointed and misfiring form, the Red Devils are currently THE form side in the EPL. This will provide some solace to Erik Ten Hag who is very slowly getting injured players back for selection, but will perplex fans given the sub-par showings we've seen so far this season.
There's also the Højlund conundrum. The Dane is joint top scorer in the Champions League, but yet to find a goal for United in the Premier League - despite his consistently good showings up front. A goal will come, and hopefully be the first of many, but again the waiting game is tough for the fans keen to see United flex their muscles.
Yet another international break is upon us, meaning United's next game is away to Everton on Sunday November 26; a potentially sticky fixture given Everton seem to be finding their feet again under Sean Dyche, but also a good time to have a break and disrupt that rhythm.

[ad_1] Left: Ange Postecoglou. Right: Son Heung-min. Images: X For present-day followers of the English Premier League (EPL), Tottenham Hotspur are part of the so-called Big Six, even though neither they nor Manchester United are remotely in touch in this season’s title race. Spurs, though, have always been the odd team out. Since the EPL was formed over 30 years ago, we have seen Manchester City and Chelsea emerge from relative obscurity to conquer even Europe. Arsenal enjoyed a golden age in the first decade of Arsene Wenger’s stewardship, while Sir Alex Ferguson rewrote the record books at United. Even Liverpool, though they had to wait for Jurgen Klopp to come and lift the league-title curse, enjoyed plenty of glory in the interim. Spurs have won two League Cups since 1990-91, the last of them way back in 2007-08. As the team stumbles under the stewardship of Ange Postecoglou, the Australian whose front-foot coaching style took them to a creditable fifth place last season, there is huge discontent on the terraces. That has only intensified after a 4-0 thrashing at Anfield on Thursday night, which saw a 1-0 first-leg advantage become a comprehensive 4-1 aggregate defeat in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool. For the first time under Postecoglou, Spurs couldn’t even register a shot on target. A lengthy injury list didn’t help, and they were playing Europe’s form side on their own patch, but much of the fan anger wasn’t directed at the coach or the players. The lightning rod for criticism these days is Daniel Levy, who has now been the club chairman for 24 years. Spurs were a basket case of a club when Levy took over at the turn of the millennium, and he played a huge role in reestablishing them among the elite. But the feeling now is that the final step won’t be taken under his leadership. Spurs’ fan base was largely built on the 1960-61 league-and-cup double won by Bill Nicholson and his team. In the years that followed, they became known as a formidable Cup team. They won a European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1962-63, long before United, Liverpool or Arsenal tasted continental success, and have also claimed the UEFA Cup, precursor to the Europa League, twice. White Hart Lane became a hothouse for maverick talents like Jimmy Greaves, Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne and the Argentine duo of Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa. Fans took pride in that cavalier method, even if it didn’t always win trophies. Much of the unease when Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte were in charge stemmed from the fact that their prosaic methods didn’t suit the “Tottenham way”. But the very fact that fans were even talking of trophies was a credit to Levy. By the time he took over, the glory years were long gone. After the FA Cup success of 1990-91, Spurs spent a decade and a half without finishing in the top six. After that, it became routine. Between 2009 and 2020, they were fixtures in the top bracket, with the highlight being third, second and third-place finishes in consecutive seasons under Mauricio Pochettino. That was followed by a run to the Champions League final where they lost to Liverpool. By then, Spurs had moved to a new stadium, a state-of-the-art venue that was Levy’s passion project. Recognised as one of the best in the world, it can host all kinds of events and has added considerably to the club’s coffers. It’s no coincidence that Spurs were ninth in the Deloitte Money League, with a revenue of €615m last year, ahead of the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan and Juventus. Levy runs a tight ship. There is no danger of 115 charges of creative accounting or a leaky roof. But the lack of trophies is beginning to grate. After years of no success, fans are pondering the most fundamental question: does a football club exist to be run like a profitable business, or should it go all out to try and win trophies?
Of course, Real Madrid and others have shown that you can be both, but that balance seems to have eluded Levy and Spurs. And after this shocker of a season, so far, something has to give.
