Hiya, long time fan finally creeping out of the woodwork to say I hope you’re doing good- and to drop ye olde XV x KH angst for the lols (because I’m finally finishing my first playthrough of XV after starting mid 2017/18 and it made me nostalgic for your art/au)

Prompto sharing his story (EP) to Sora not long after the first few years of Noctis in the Crystal and Sora surprising him because he’s probably one of the only people who actually *get* the whole ‘I’m not me’ identity crisis.

Gladio and Sora never officially patching things up after the argument on the train- leading to Sora having attitude/a chip on his shoulder that eventually escalates into a genuine fight between the two after dealing with some daemons just the two of them (that only ends in a draw because Sora’s Star-scourge acts up.) They have a heart to heart after, and both genuinely apologize- making a silent deal that if Sora were to succumb, Gladio is probably the best candidate to Put an end to him (cue Ventus all but screaming in the Heart Hotel)

That will is possibly put to the test as the 5 boys get to the Citadel- the Starscourge making Sora lash out (Ala Ringwraith Talion in Shadow of Mordor/War)

thinking today about episode Ardyn since I finally played it, but I'm not thinking about Ardyn, I'm thinking about Verstael Besithia. Here's a dude who "rescued" Ardyn for his own diabolical purposes, then kept him locked up for months while he wore down his resistance until he was willing to turn fully evil.

and Prompto is a clone of this guy.

clearly there's nature vs nurture and DNA isn't everything but gosh!!! what does Prompto have that he shares with Verstael via their DNA? honestly the most disconcerting thing in ep Ardyn is having to see Prompto's face acting very much not like Prompto.

but anyway does Prompto have dark tendencies he has learned to suppress? did Verstael love chocobos?? is Prompto excellent at science? what do they actually have in common here?

if Prompto mostly grew up on his own, did he have good influences from somewhere or did Verstael have bad influences?

leaving side the other main thing about ep Ardyn that introduces a massive glaring plot hole into all of ffxv in that somehow Noctis appears to be unaware that Adagium is a thing and escaped and is working with Niflheim. like I get that maybe they wouldn't know what Ardyn looks like bc he was disguised but the fact of his existence??? is this not crucial information for a chosen king to have???

and that is why I generally summarily dismiss episode Ardyn from the canon I use in my fic tbh

So, I'm falling back into the FFXV kick, and I have decided that I disapprove of how little complex character development Square Enix has given the guys?? Like where is the emotional depth beyond surface-level cutscene angst?? So I took matters into my own hands and have compiled a handy little list of headcanons / expanded canons that I think make sense.

Noctis: Has clinical insomnia and frequent lucid dreams (sorta a given, but bear w me bear w me)

Feels the weight of having to take so much on from such a young age much, much more than he lets on

Loves to argue

Would've been happier if he and Luna stayed as childhood best-buds rather than betrothed fiancés (controversial, ik, but it just didn't seem like he cared that much for her romantically to me?? Like he obviously cared about her, but it seemed like a really strong penpal vibe rather than a "We're-gonna-get-married-and-be-the-next-hotshot-couple" vibe. If you disagree, coolio, I'm not gonna debate w you on this one)

Has a natural sadness to his eyes regardless of what he's feeling

Went through an anime phase (possibly still in his anime phase, idk)

Social anxiety for the win

Severe RBF

Prefers tea over coffee (black tea is best---particularly lavender earl grey)

Can play the cello (practicing tho?? Don't know her)

Writes the most beautiful poetry when The Motivation™ strikes him (usually when he's home sick and half-delirious)

Prompto: Has ADHD and clinical anxiety, but is undiagnosed and doesn't take any meds for either of them.

Is legit like SO SMART, but can never focus, so not many people take any notice

Wears contact lenses (he had glasses as a child and I refuse to believe he had some high-tech corrective surgery to eliminate the need for them when lenses are cheaper and less risky)

Doesn't drink caffeine because it makes him jittery

Doesn't drive the Regalia when the guys are around because having other people in the car distracts him from the road. Also he tends to drive like a speed demon, which worries Ignis to no end.

Sunburns insanely easily

Could legit become a hitman if he wanted to with the amount of gun-knowledge he has. It doesn't matter what firearm you put in this boy's hand---pistol, SMG, sniper, rocket launcher, you name it. He can and will hit the target every single time.

Has a lot of self-loathing (we see a bit of this in Ep. Prompto) and talks with an online therapist about it via text whenever his lows hit him. He's making great progress in learning how to heal and how to accept himself for who he is beyond the mask he wears for others

Ignis: More than a little bit of a control freak, and works very hard not to be too overbearing or critical about his friends' misgivings

Hypochondriac

Wants to protect everyone all the time and mentally kicks himself when he doesn't get there fast enough

Is SO PROUD of Noctis's journey and felt a stronger hatred towards Ardyn than anyone else in the group for what he forced Noct to go through (he stayed up at night sick to his stomach with hollow rage and baked nonstop to take his mind off of it)

Can verbally obliterate a man, but only rarely chooses to do so bc he's classy like that

After losing his eyes, he notices so much more beauty in the world than he used to (the sound of rain on the Regalia's roof, the specific gait of each of his friends, the smell of salt on the wind in Galdin Quay, the flawless feel of one specific silk tie he has in his repertoire, etc)

His internal compass is never wrong

For one tho I'll reiterate that I don't like the fanon that Cor took the child. I don't think Verstael would allow Lucian infiltration of his labs after they managed to break in during ep ardyn - and I don't think that nothing would be said if Cor did break in. Something would have come up if Lucis had any idea what Verstael was doing but they clearly didn't - and I can't see Cor just grabbing a kid and leaving.

I generally prefer to see it as Ardyn being curious and/or fucking with Verstael because he would be one of the very few to have entirely unrestricted access to the labs

But anyway-

Verstael likes Prompto. Conceptually, at least. He finds him fascinating - none of the clones were ever meant to live and the fact that one was able to, and to thrive, it's very interesting to Verstael. He doesn't really see him as a person, and he definitely doesn't see him as his child but the general view of him is a positive one.

If he found out about him before he was so far gone into his insanity, he would probably be tempted to seek him out and its very hard to manage to tempt Verstael beyond the walls of his labs

How did you get involved in your latest fandom? well, i was SUPER into the vampire chronicles as a young teen but i basically read iwtv -> TVA -> blood & gold and then stopped, cos i was mostly HUGELY into Armand and then Marius, and less bothered about the rest. then when iwtv (tv) came out, i was HUGELY into it, but i wasn't back on tumblr back then so i just kinda squeed in my own head? so when i found out s2 was airing (i'd missed like 3 eps i think??) i just finally got into the fandom proper! and having Armand there now just gave me all the impetus i needed to start making things heh. god i love him so much... needless to say young teen me HATED the casting choice from the original film LOL

1) Are you a megane IRL?

Sort of?? I'd always wanted glasses and got my wish a few years ago! I'm a bit farsighted (objects turn blurry once they get a few inches close to my face) so I typically only wear glasses when I am focusing on screens (such as my computer monitor, TV or phone), otherwise I don't need them and can see quite well. But does this classify me as an Official Megane™? I guess so, since there is usually a screen involved in my day to day life. 😂

2) Do you enjoy other FF games, or just XV?

While XV is my favourite for a majority of reasons, I've played and enjoyed quite a few other FF games over the years! I especially love 6, 7 and 9. My favourite RPG series are actually non-FF though!

3) Do you prefer the Ep Ignis ending, or the main ending to their story?

I assume you mean the "Verse 2" ending of Episode Ignis when you say the Episode Ignis ending - and the answer is… I like both of them, but ultimately I prefer the main ending of the game. I love a good tragedy (as much as it makes my heart hurt!!) and there is beauty in it through the tears. However, I am also not opposed to the idea of "happy, everyone lives" AUs, which Verse 2 delivers quite nicely, so I can enjoy it purely in a "what if" scenario.

4) Who do you ship Ignis with the most, if at all?

Prompto of course!! The Promnis pairing has had me in a chokehold since the game first came out and it's still going strong. It's the main pairing that I write (ha… writing.. what's that…?? 💦💦) and just the mere mention of it evokes strong emotions in me to this day. I won't write an essay here, but I do think they are perfect for each other in every way.

5) What's your favorite color?

Purple! My phone is purple, my bedspread is purple, my childhood room was purple, my hair has been dyed purple multiple times…. if I could have everything be purple, it would be. It's such a happy colour.

6) Has anything come out recently you really enjoyed?

Video game-wise, there have been SO many. My favourite game of all time is Super Mario RPG for the SNES, and when the remake for the Switch was announced I actually cried watching the trailer. Playing it was absolute perfection and I couldn't have asked for anything more! More recently though, I played through Sea of Stars (AMAZING GAME I loved the heck out of it) and just finished Little Kitty Big City, which was a super cute delight!

Hello. Oh my god that was a long time ago. I am so fucking impressed you remembered that. ❤️❤️

I love 15, I love everything about it, except the ending. I get it, Noctis dying is very ‘versus’ and I get it. But Final Fantasy the series as a whole is about defying fate. If the bros and Noctis had spent ages trying to fight his fate, and failed. Then atleast that’s a compelling ending. But it didn’t. No one fought, no one tried and Noctis died.

I finished Incompatible before ep Ignis came out. So I conceived of the whole story before the ep Ignis alternative ending. My thought process was about what can I make happen, with just one OC that could cause everyone to fight harder and have Noctis survive.

My idea was to make Ardyn more evil lol.

In Incompatible, Ardyn is the full on reason for Iggys blindness, not just kind of indirectly. I wanted to give Ignis some proper resentment towards him.

In my story, Ardyn kidnaps Prompto when he does in game, but also kidnaps ‘reader’ during the alternate chapter 13. Ardyn makes Noctis choose between the two of them. She begs for Noctis to choose Prom, that she’ll be fine and so he does. The scene in game where Noctis grabs Prom from the crucifixion thing is so damn powerful I had to keep it.

So Prom ends up scarred, but he’s okay. In exchange Ardyn tortures reader. He cuts out her tongue specifically, so she can’t communicate with Ignis. To inflict maximum pain. So we have Ardyn responsible for blinding and muting Noctis’ friends.

I thought this would encourage, the 4 of them, while Noctis is in the crystal, to fight harder to find a way to save him. I hated in game how easily Ignis gave up, when we all know he would never stop fighting for Noct. And then also encourages Noctis, when he comes back in the future, to never give up.

So he ends up surviving and ushering in the dawn.

I wanna add that I have never had an outline for this. It was my idea for how the series ended, but I never planned to write it. So you’re not all missing out on a big fic that I never ended up getting to.

I have now gone through ep Gladio and ep Prompto and I'm in ep Ignis now, so some thoughts!

I'm doing them all on easy mode because I suck at fighting and don't really care that much about fighting. That said, I did attempt the time challenge thing in ep Gladio because I heard I have to beat it to get his shirtless outfit, and I want it 😅

ANYWAY ep Prompto is very 🥺 as we all know, but also the fighting is so fucking annoying in it! Shooting games are not my forte and I had trouble aiming, and then that last battle versus immortalis was just weirdly easy? The gorilla was way harder. At least I got Prompto's tundra attire at the end of it.

I only managed to do one part of one side quest in it so idk if there's more I missed. I do like Aranea a lot though and would definitely be down for fic about Prompto and her going on adventures during WoR.

As far as ep Ignis goes, it took me a minute to get my bearings but I think I'm making good progress now. Extreme 🥺 about right at the beginning when Ignis gets a view of the altar and just closes his eyes for a sec and says "be safe." Anyway I have now joined up with Ravus, who I do enjoy. The speedboat getting shot at was an exciting sequence too!

I'm not sure if I'll play more tonight or not but I'm thinking maybe not, because there are two giant fans and a dehumidifier running in my kitchen to dry off the ceiling from our bathroom flood and it's so loud in my living room as a result that you can't hear things and it hurts my ears. I think instead I'll retire to the guest room (bc it was the master bath that flooded so my bedroom also has giant fans and a dehumidifier) and shut the door and read fanfic on my phone.
