Holy shit.
This episode was fantastic. Beautiful. Brilliant. And so fucking moving I am still tearing up thinking about it.
Thorfinn's talk with Canute. The whole sequence was utter perfection. When Thorfinn first shows up and Canute didn’t want to see him a few episodes ago, I wasn't entirely sure why, I thought he might just be indifferent - but he was just ashamed. That's clear now. He wasn't proud of his choices when they first parted four years ago, and even more so now. The methods he's been taking to achieve his goals, he's been heading down a path of no return, but Thorfinn has saved him.
Thorfinn, the type of man he always struggled to be, back then, and ironically even now, when Thorfinn's turned his life around.
Those two, always seemingly at odds with each other. Of course, of course Canute will listen to him. He doesn't want to disappoint him again. The wild boy whose father figure he killed, the living representation of the decisions he's made. Canute claims he gained new allies, and that might be true, but really, he gained a new friend. One who yearns for the same future, one who shares his dreams. A beautiful man, as Canute calls him, who can see the world in ways only he can.
