You know, this panel has always made me a little curious. Every other time we saw Izuku sparring with Katsuki (before the war started at least), he’d use blackwhip to defend himself, hence ‘catch-a-kacchan’ so I found it weird how Izuku didn’t even try to grab Katsuki. For like 100 chapters prior to this, he used blackwhip for everything and would eventually just leave it out incase he needed it quickly kinda like how Hawks utilized his feathers (when he had them) so I kinda just made a mental note about how weird it was that Izuku chose to evade instead of defend when he easily could’ve.

I also found it weird how quickly Izuku wanted to change the topic along with the distress on his face. I thought it was just a cheap and ooc way of explaining Todoroki’s new power quickly but, since it’s now confirmed that Izuku has PTSD about Katsuki’s sacrifice, what if Katsuki’s cluster move triggers that trauma response too?

The next time we see cluster used with Izuku present, Izuku actually does respond with blackwhip.

He doesn’t use it in defense though, he uses it in almost possessive way by securing their hands together with it. But also, he doesn’t speak for this entire chapter. It could be explained away by the side effect of using gearshift and him not being able to breath but before now, he’s been more focused while in distress and was also speaking just fine before. Though, in these panels, and through the entire chapter, he seems almost delirious and in shock. He’s not even reacting to the lack of oxygen anymore.

He even starts ignoring Shigaraki in these moments. He’s stunned and mesmerized but now I’m starting to question whether he’s amazed or scared out of his mind for what might happen. With that uncertainty, all that I can say confidently is that he’s distracted.

Arguably after chapter 404, he stops thinking straight and, honestly, gets a little sloppy. A few chapters after this, is when gets danger sense stolen and starts getting truly injured. He makes the decision to give away OFA and loses his arms. He reverts right back into his “I don’t care what happens to me” mentality that his class has been trying to get him to grow out of for a while.

He wasn’t mentally prepared for something to go wrong in this fight. He wasn’t mentally prepared to be pulled away, leaving Katsuki with Shigaraki. I thought it was just iffy writing that he’d mentally regress after Katsuki woke up instead of before but, it honestly makes a lot more sense now. He cared about what happened to himself because he needed to stay alive to ensure Katsuki’s revival. Once Katsuki woke up and he watched him fight AFO, he started being reckless again. He went back to viewing himself as nothing but a vessel for OFA because he believes OFA is the only thing that can beat AFO, hence why he trusted the vestiges when they said “we can fight him from the inside” (which I think was a silly decision. It’s noble in theory but it amounted to nothing because Izuku can’t win in this regressive state of self sacrifice anymore. Or at least, he shouldn’t since it’s such a big part of his arc.).

And now, with the most recent chapter with most of his classmates present it seems like he’s regretting that decision because he’s being reminded that people care about him. They showed up to support him regardless of already being hurt because he can’t win on his own. Eri mutilated herself to help him and if that doesn’t tell him that fighting without the intent of not dying is stupid, idk what will.

He was about to just throw himself back into the fight with the same mindset as before if Aizawa didn’t stop him. He looks frustrated because he realizes the weight of what he’s been doing and how looking up to AM and the previous vestiges shouldn’t be his role models right now considering all of their fates. He’d just be continuing OFAs curse like Katsuki’s been worried about for a hundred something chapters.

In conclusion, this post was very unfocused but I can’t wait to see Izuku kick ass and for Katsuki to show back up because with the impact he’s had on Izuku, I DESPERATELY need them to talk. Most of this post may have very well been a stretch but, let me be delusional please.

404 Not Found

***SPOILER ALERT***

I'm not sure what to think right now. On one hand, I just watched one of the most complex and interesting characters die after the person he loved the most basically told him to fuck off and stated that he didn't care about him; however, when the moment came to leave him behind, he showed him in the end how much he actually DID care by displaying reluctance and then refusing to let him die alone in the woods.

Yet, on the other hand, Sam said from the beginning of this season, no one has guessed the correct ending yet. Not fan theories or detailed Reddit posts of episodic breakdowns. Apparently we are all going to be thrown for a loop on the final episode, when everything wraps up and I don't know about you, but from the way things are going so far, I feel like anything is possible now. Time travel, alternate realities, all deaths are actually concrete and the story is what it seems, or even the theory that everything was a dream and the whole universe of Mr. Robot has been a long-running psychoses from Elliot's own mind.

Either way, I just want to make sure that people still appreciate this show for what it is, which is so much more than just ships. And I'm saying this as one of the biggest Tyrelliot shippers out there (well aside from our captain Martin that is). I love the dynamics of Tyrell and Elliot, and I have enjoyed following their character development, both as individuals and as a whole. It's been touched on multiple times in multiple episodes how big of a part Tyrell plays in Elliot's life, and how much the two are intertwined in each other's existence, that it seems impossible to ignore or simply write off. In fact, every single person on Mr. Robot is complex, broken in one way or another, and ultimately shows us the very depths of what it means to be human. They are relatable and entertaining and that speaks volumes to the writers ability, as well as the actors' to be able to portray them in such a way that connects to the fans and the audience.

I know a lot of you are pissed and irate by recent events, but don't let those moments of angry draw you away from possibly one of the best series in TV history. Honestly I have never found a world or people that I am able see myself in more than that of Mr. Robot.

As someone who struggles with mental illness and depression, I can't tell you how much it means to me to watch a show where these kinds of themes are not romanticized or parodied in any way, and instead we are subjected to the full unapologetic, and dark truth of how mental illness can effect both you and those around you. On top of that, Sam created this show with a vision in mind, and its objective was to pull the wool from over our eyes and make society wake up, face the world that so many have been numb to for so long, and start to actually give a shit about things other than materialism or whatever your preferred methods of ignorance are

From the first line of dialogue from the very first episode I knew that Mr. Robot had me in its clutches. This was partially because I have always had a huge fascination with the world of hackers, partially because the writing was so philosophical, intellectual, and on a level all of it's own, and partially because I could've sworn half the words that came out of Elliot's mouth could've come straight from my own mind, our thought processes are that similar. This is what I meant by finding a show I could relate to so easily.

For four years now I have been mesmerized by the sheer brilliance of this cast, this crew, the writers, and the innovative concepts that have been incorporated throughout this series. I couldn't imagine my life without Mr. Robot as a part of it, and unfortunately I only have 6 more episodes before that unimaginable reality becomes truth. There are so many topics that society would rather shove under the rug than partake in, but Mr. Robot and Sam Esmail never shied away from any of them. He has made his opinions known, whether they are political, ethical, or anything else, and that's exactly why I have so much appreciation and respect for him.

Every little detail placed into this show, all the symbolism that could be mistaken as coincidences in every episode, every season, has been carefully planned out and executed to the standards and image that Sam crafted. I mean he brought in actual experts to make sure that the hacking scenes were authentic. He created a whole treasure hunt online simply for clues to reveal secrets about the newest upcoming season. If that's not dedication I don't know what is.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, appreciate the show for the extraordinary phenomenon that it is and don't let the controversy or diminishing of ships deter you from continuing to watch and support this show. The cast alone deserves at least 10 Oscars each. Please keep showing them how much you appreciate their hard work and efforts 🖤

ep 407: im going to kind of reach on this one but there’s a scene in the trailer of guillermo doing a backflip during a fight with someone. “Go Flip Yourself” reminds me of that scene. in it, it appears they’re in the night market again so that’s what the “what they did in the shadows” could be referencing.

ep 408: désirs familiers is french and translates to “familiar desires”. im assuming this is a double entendre of sorts. this episode is the one with guillermo’s alleged new boyfriend, freddie. freddie desires guillermo and guillermo is a familiar, so “familiar desires”. but at the same time it could be nandor having mixed feelings and “familiar desires” toward guillermo that are the same as how he felt about gail and meg. it could be nandor embracing his feelings just like guillermo in the “Gail” episode last season

ep 409: …bae don’t do this to me. this is “The Wedding” episode. maybe something goes horribly wrong at nandor’s wedding, or possibly he turns guillermo into a vampire (since you have to die to become a vampire hence the “everybody dies”)

ep 410: everybody gets together again, i feel like throughout the season laszlo, nadja, nandor, and guillermo won’t be all together most of the time because they each have individual plot lines going on. nandor’s still searching for a partner, guillermo finds a boyfriend, nadja opens her nightclub, and laszlo is busy taking care of baby colin.

conclusion: im going insane and i can’t wait for season 4.

Buddie 507 meta

The first thing that struck me about Buck and Taylor’s “detective” interaction is how much their lack of communication is spelled out. Buck and Eddie, as well as Buck and others from his chosen family (like Chim in this very ep or Maddie in 504) are shown to be bonded to such a degree that - even when it happens off screen - the show makes sure we know they share everything significant. And in this ep we have Buck and Taylor explicitly talking on screen about what they’re not communicating with each other. We already saw a glimpse of Buck not telling Taylor everything he witnessed on a call in ep 506, now it’s actually acknowledged between them. More than that, Taylor refers to him as a “source,” which shows he’s right not to share with her. After all, first responders are obviously free to talk about what they’ve been through with loved ones so they can carry on doing their difficult job, but not in order to expose and broadcast this info to the world. If Taylor has used info confided privately from Buck, it’s in that grey area we call “it’s kosher, but it still stinks.” That kinda adds to the moment where she grabbed Buck’s phone (which I mentioned in my 501 meta) as showing how limitless she is in pursuit of a story, causing her not to pay attention to other people’s boundaries. And then the ending makes it clear that Taylor’s drive in regards to her work comes from some personal history she hasn’t told him about, despite them being together for what, 4-5 months now? And despite supposedly being friends before that. IDK, but this does not feel like the friends to lovers, 200k, slow burn romance that shows love giving their popular protagonists. ~~~

I had to make this gifset when I saw Taylor working on her case and Buck serving basically as a soundboard (which is further emphasized by Athena, in her exchange with Lou, being a more active contributor). Buck also came across as troubled and reserved. It immediately reminded me of what Buck was like when he was playing detective with Eddie in 404: he was the one who initiated posing investigative questions, Eddie went along with him, and they played off each other. In other words, Buck felt like an enthusiastic partner in that case, more than with his actual girlfriend. It could be implied from the end of the ep that the reason for the difference is his concern over Taylor risking her life, but he only learns about the risk Taylor takes later on. It continues a theme I highlighted in almost every meta post for this season, where their relationship feels a bit off even during moments that should make it seem to grow stronger. ~~~

I found it curious how they handled Taylor in conjunction with the ep’s main call. Lou def doesn’t trust her and says he’ll leave a guard outside Edgar’s door because he’s sure she’ll try to sneak back in. In fact, her brush with Lou tells us the criticism is right, that she does go overboard when compared with others in the same profession, ‘coz Taylor’s not the first reporter Lou has had to handle, yet she manages to get a reaction out of him. Now the thing is, a lot of times this sort of mistrust is grounds for change and growth. Taylor could have somehow proven herself to Lou during her work on the case in parallel to him and ended up being invaluable to solving the case. Think, if you will, of Buck in 101. He annoys Athena right away, but ends up saving her life by the end of the ep. We learn she’s even said some kind things about him to Bobby… That’s not what happens with Taylor, she contributes nothing to the case, Lou’s impression of her at no point is disproven or changed. And let’s not forget, Lou’s presented as a good guy with sound judgment (NGL, I loved how he helped Harry in this ep). It’s clear to me that Taylor was turned into a part of the case as buildup for whatever her backstory is, but they could have used that as an opportunity to show us she’s better than how she’s perceived. But the show chose not to take that route. I point this out, ‘coz I think this has relevance for how her r/s with Buck will unfold. ~~~

An interesting moment is when Buck confronts her at the end of the ep, asking if her job’s worth risking her life for. He adds he knows he’s basically the same. The thing is, they’re not. And I’m not talking about the saving lives aspect. Clearly, to Taylor telling a story is no less worth it than to save a life. And that’s a totally valid POV. But the thing is that with firefighting, putting one’s life on the line is a given. It’s built in. Sure, you wanna minimize the risks, but you know they exist no matter what, and that there’s an unavoidable risk you take that you might not return from a call. That’s not journalism, though. Especially not when you’re just a TV reporter for a local station. You can easily do the job without any significant risk. In my 506 meta I mentioned the difference between Ali’s concerned reaction to the risk Buck’s in vs Taylor’s far more subdued one. With this ep, it’s Buck who ends up in Ali’s position, and he also has a pretty subdued reaction (especially when compared to how worried he was about Eddie in 501 and 502).

The thing is, when you start dating a firefighter, you know you’re dating someone who’s constantly risking their lives (even if it might take you a while to figure out whether you can handle it). Not so when you start dating a reporter. It’s clear we’re going to get Taylor’s backstory. Now what they do with that back story, that’s another matter. Maybe it’ll make Buck understand her more and stay with her despite the cracks we have seen in their r/s, at least for the time being, or maybe it’ll drive home the point that they’re not compatible. Either way, I find it interesting that based on the build up, her secret being revealed seems to be tied in with whether Buck and her can stay together for now. That says something about how even showing her past isn’t making her a character in her own right. Because in contrast, every other ‘begins’ story has been about the character itself, even Josh’s, not about their current romantic relationships. And without being a character in her own right, her time on the show is bound to be limited. ~~~

Another interesting point to me is that the most attention Buck and Taylor’s r/s has gotten is in an ep filled with stories about people being without their partners (Chim going after Maddie, Buck’s detective game being lackluster without Eddie), doubting their partners (Karen dealing with the ongoing effects of Hen’s cheating) and being enraged by their partners (the call). It sets a certain tone. Out of all of these, I couldn’t help focusing on Eddie’s absence. It’s almost like the place Eddie has in Buck’s life is so big, Taylor mostly gets to take up space when he’s not there.

In this context, I really wanna highlight Karen and her r/s with Hen, because there’s proof there that Taylor’s lack of development in her own right isn’t about being a minor character. So is Karen, but she has constantly been a wonderfully developed character, her r/s with Hen has been consistently invested in since s1 so people care about what happens with the two of them, and Karen has volume as a character including little quirks (turned on by… frugality? OK, Karen, I guess you get to, because you’re too damn cute), struggles (depression when they failed to get pregnant) and small yet significant contributions to the plot (for example, being the character who solves the mystery of the blackout). So far in s5, Taylor has had none of these things, she’s barely been there. And even when starting to get a backstory, it seems to be tied into whether she’ll even stay with Buck, so it still doesn’t feel like she’s really getting a spot of her own.

I love how true she stays to herself. When she was summoned under Kiritsugu, she held her ideals so deeply and firmly that it made her unable to communicate with him and vice versa. She tried incredibly hard to maintain her ideals, and even though she failed the first time, the second time she tried once again to reclaim her lost dream, this time actually having closure with a master that supports and respects her.

2019 Music Recommendations

2019. Another stellar year! There was so much excitement this year to be found musically. First off some surprises from some older acts who haven’t released material in decades. Both Heavy Water Factory and Numb had terrific returns to form with new full lengths this year and not surprisingly after the long slumbers - still showcased modern sounds and futuristic ideas. Some terrific re-issues this year from the likes of Dive, Force Dimension and Robotiko Rejekto all from the awesome Mecanica label. If you missed them the first go-around seek them out – those are all important artifacts in the industrial-ebm history. Oh yeah, they also re-issued Acid Horse and Pailhead records this year too!  Synth-pop and synth wave made a huge impact again this year with remarkable releases from Hatchie (favorite record of the year), Silent Em, Luminance, Iris, Body of Light, Minuit Machine, Wingtips, Replicant and others. Post-punk seemed to be the buzz phrase this year with a lot of attention on it. Many great records from the likes of Foreign Resort, Present Moment, Ritual Howls, Veil of Light and Years of Denial. Retro sounding EBM still caught my attention with outstanding releases from Klack, Randolph & Mortimer and Unconscious. Likewise, there was so much contemporary energy surging in the newer techno-ebm realm with punchy releases from Crystal Geometry, Maedon, Kontravoid, Raffaele Attanasio, Rhys Fulber, Ansome and so many others. This isn’t a top 10, top 25 or even a top 100. Instead, it’s an A-Z recommendation list encompassing many genres as those lines are getting more and more blurred.  The majority of what I listen to is electronic based and that runs a whole gamut of sub-genres from techno-ebm, to synth-pop to whatever. A good tune is a good tune, regardless of genre. For each release I’ve listed a format (the one I purchased the release in). If there’s not a format listed - it’s usually digital. My preferred format is vinyl, but if you can’t find it on vinyl it’s likely available digitally as well. RE stands for re-issue by the way.

There’s a ton of new pioneering music out there for sure waiting to be discovered and it’s the “what’s next” that keeps me a motivated music fan. There’s never a dull moment in speaking, writing, DJ'ing or promoting new music, so I’ll keep doing it and hopefully be a guide for you all ;).

He gives off a good feeling, and then his gaze and his deep voice, I seriously like them. There was another drama that I watched, but I turned the channel.
