Favorite quotes from each episode season 1
1: Echos of Thunder (first of all- the more you think of it, the more chilling this episode title is)
-"In the old times, there were only the six primal sources of magic: The Sun. The Moon. The Stars. The Earth. The Sky. And The Ocean."
What a way to set up the world. Just enough information to explain that there is a magic system, but it doesn't infodump you with rules. Also the animation timing and Aaravos narrating makes it an amazing shot.
-(after Callum stops Claudia from running into a tree) "You're no fun"
This depiction of siblings is just so accurate.
-"You let him live, but you've killed us all."
This sent chills down my spine the first time and all the times after that. It reminds me so much of the Trolly problem. Sparing Marcos is a great way to introduce Rayla, but it led to her teammates getting killed and her father figure being captured.
2: What is done
-"I brought you because you're talented. Maybe the fastest and strongest of any of us. But it takes more than that. There's an instinct. A moment of truth. And in that moment, you hesitate."
This is another that really brings out Rayla's characterization without showing you much. It tells you very well that she is able to fight, but not willing to kill.
-"Yesterday, I had two eggs for breakfast and I was starving. Today I had four eggs and I'm stuffed. So, tomorrow-" "Three eggs, I get it. We don't need to talk." "I was going to say two eggs and one sausage."
Come on. This was hilarious. Also- the introduction of female side characters just being there instead of a bunch of copy-paste male guards.
-"There are centuries of history. Generations of wrongs and crimes. On both sides. I am responsible for some of those wrongs."
Enter the grey morals of the world. There is no clear cut good and evil. Just a war because both sides believe the other is in the wrong.
-"I am Prince Ezran."
Callum! Loves! His! Brother!
3: Moonrise
-"If I told you, you would try to stop me." "So, shouldn't I just try to stop you then, even without knowing?" "Goodbye, Claudia"
This is literally the one scene that makes me question if something happened to him when he talks to Viren. Before, he was decent, even with deranged morals. After, though, he is just evil.
-"It's not a weapon. It's an egg!"
This brilliantly show the difference in how the elves and humans view dragon. The humans see them as weapons because dragons defended the border against them. The elves see them as just other creatures because dragons worked with them.
-"But if today is my last day as king, you will know your place."
Before, I saw Harrow as the wise king (especially because he was able to admit his mistakes in ep 2). But here, you can see that he is also powerful, someone you do not want to mess with.
-"I will kill you." "Probably."
Rayla rushing into battle to protect the princes? Yes please! (I would say to protect the egg, but Runaan would not have hurt the egg)
-"Say the word and I'll go back into that tower with you"
You mean, the exact moment I fell for Rayllum?
4: Bloodthirsty
-"Unbind yourself! Unbind... thyself. UNBINDO!"
Rayla you dork. (Also this quote was my first popular tumblr post, so it has a special place in my heart)
-"It is tradition to mourn fallen kings for seven sunsets. You've not even given him one."
Evil Viren... begins. Also Opeli is an amazing minor character.
-"Just no more detours, all right? Or heartfelt speeches."
Rayla was trying to kill Callum one day ago, and is now listening to him? Putting herself in danger for him? I love them so much
-"I don't believe in locks"
GREAT introduction for Amaya, I love her. Also, the way Gren said it with such enthusiasm even though he did have to makes me so happy!
-(in ASL) "He says, if we don’t let you go, you'll kill them and drink their blood"
This was pretty heartless of Callum. But it got them out of that situation I guess. But like, poor Rayla.
-"You called me a bloodthirsty monster. You have no idea how that feels." "But I don’t actually believe any of that."
It was still heartless, Callum. I'm glad this conversation took place though, it allows Callum to understand why what he did was wrong.
5: An Empty Throne (I'd like to start by saying this is by far my favorite episode)
-"Know what? I'm just gonna throw it." "What? No!" "Yeah, I'm gonna throw you the Primal Stone."
Is Callum channeling Sokka here or something? (Also this foreshadows the finale)
-"What? I have nice legs."
Ezran you are adorable!
-"Are you, like, this black-flippin', tree-climin', sword stabbin' elven worrior, but scared of a little splish-splashin'?"
Rayla: Nooo! that's what I'm sensitive about!
-"I am a servant of Katolis! I am a servant!" "Those are awfully nice clothes for a humble servant, Viren."
You tell him, Amaya! What a way to shut down Viren! I'm here for sassy Amaya.
-"I admit it. I hate water. I'm afraid of it. It makes me sick. All of the bad feelings."
I just love how Rayla decides she can tell Callum and Ez these things. She trusts them so much I-- I love her so much.
-"Come on, Rayla, do it for the frog. The grumpy frog that hates you."
Rayla protecting Bait for Ezran! Even though she is afraid! How can you not say that is cute!
-Amaya's sign language to the statue and Gren
You don’t have to know exactly what she is saying to know what she is saying. I love the show for being able to convey that so well.
-(kicks boat away) "Goodbye, boat."
Callum respecting Rayla's fear? I'm here for it!
6: Through the Ice
-"They're not prisoners. They choose to Travel with me."
I know no one is going to believe her, but it is true. Also, I believe this sentence is why Corvus doesn't attack them again and instead helps. He decided to watch them and see if it was true.
-"You are to return with the terrible news that both the princes have died."
Aka the exact moment Viren became an irredeemable villan to me.
-"I'm habsolutly hurious."
Rayla has my exact sense of humor! I laugh so hard at this every time!
-"if you have to choose, choose the egg"
Viren was already irredeemable. This just dug the ditch deeper.
-"Because it has to come from you. Human Princes, returning the egg to the Dragon Queen. That's the gesture that matters. That could end the war, and change the world."
This is so true. Rayla doesn't want to be a hero, she wants this war to end. Just like Callum.
-"He'll get it. He'll save the egg. We have to believe in him... He's brave and strong. He can do this."
This is so wholesome. Rayla believes in Ez so much! I love how there is no bias of 'hes just a kid.' He is capable in Rayla's eyes.
7: The Dagger and the Wolf
-"She's beautiful. She's your mother?"
Rayla simultaneously hints that she is bi and flirts with Callum. Indirectly calling him beautiful. (I don’t care if it is a reach).
-"Get ready to meet... Human!Rayla!"
Rayla is such a dork oh my gosh.
-"If I fail, I don’t know what dad will do to me!"
I feel so bad for Soren. This, to me, solidify that Claudia is the favorite.
-"You're one of them!"
Hearing a human call elves 'them' hit me so hard.
-"Just take the dagger! Don't hurt me, please!" "I'm not going to hurt you. And I'm not going to steal from you, either."
I was hoping this would make dagger guy rethink his beliefs.Unfortunately, he raised a mob instead.
-"If only... I weren't... so muscular."
Soren, I love you.
8: Cursed Caldera
-"Wait I've got it! Flash! Woof! Whoosh! Slish-Slash!"
This was big Sokka energy don’t lie.
-"No way. That won't work. This is my slish hand." "Uh, really?" "No, not really, dummy."
Callum having to clarify if she was joking or not gave me life.
-I'm going to have a whole post about the children encouraging Callum and Rayla.
-"That mirror? You have found something worse that death."
This foreshadows Aaravos, sure. But it also foreshadows how potentially powerful/dangerous he really is. And we haven't seen Aaravos in action all that much!
9: Wonderstorm
-"You might say it's... the Kaltallest."
Puns! I love Puns!
-"I'm sorry I didn't believe you."
Callum admitting he was wrong says so much about their relationship. And the jerkface dance! Callum is willing to do it even if he was embarrassed!
-"I know what I have to do."
Callum gave up his magic for the egg! After an entire season of him being excited to be a mage, this honestly surprised me. His sacrifice is huge.

PlvXid Talks New Single, Upcoming Album, Working with Noname and More !!!
Introduction
I have had the pleasure of having a one on one talk with rapper and producer known as PlvXid. We discussed his new single, as well as his upcoming album, going solo, working with Noname and more! Lets start off by diving into who PlvXid is behind the music. Born Craig Vincent Jr in Chesapeake, VA, PlvXid (pronounced placid) created a rap persona for himself that directly reflected how he saw himself. Placid means not easily upset, or in other words, easy going. This name carries weight not only in his personal life, but in his music. PlvXid began to explore music with his longtime friend Ryan Luc, as they formed a teen rap group title Dope Kidz in high school. This group really gave PlvXid the platform he needed to truly navigate through music, and encouraged him to begin to make music of his own. With the people close to him encouraging him to release some of his solo projects, PlvXid eventually did go solo as the group gracefully ended. He embarked on what is now his amazing solo career in 2013 with his debut song, Le Capricorn 1.5, produced by Carigamist.
Going Solo
Over the years in music, we have seen our favorite group acts transition to solo careers. Some proved to be wildly successful and some did not. But most times, whether the artist is successful or not, the transition is difficult. Surprisingly, for PlvXid this is not the case. He describes his transition into his solo career as very easy and exciting. It was very convenient as well.
"We would do sessions at my house so I had all the equipment… I just recorded extra music in my spare time and all my friends liked it."
To add a happy ending to the transition into his solo career, PlvXid and former DopeKidz member, Ryan Luc, remain great friends and continue to make music together.
Working With Noname
Going into his solo career in 2016, it was important for PlvXid to stay on top of his music and make sure that he stayed relevant. His first EP after he decided become a solo artist needed a feature.
"Instead of using my refund check for paying back my loans like you’re supposed to, I took it and spent it on a feature… I contacted a lot of artists and Noname's manager got back to me first."
From there, PlvXid sent Noname the song and she loved it enough to grace it with a verse, which you can check out on his song titled Found My Flow. The single soon took flight with over 47k lays on Soundcloud alone.
"It was a great experience… it took a lot of networking but it was worth it."
New Single: Breathe
Breathe, released on August 1st of this year, is the newest single from PlvXid’s debut solo album, Eastside.
"Its about loss. Its relatable because its about losing people close to you… Life is so short and we don't even realize it. Embrace every moment.”
The song incorporates the obvious rap elements as well as hidden elements of jazz, r&b and funk. The combination of instrumental elements and lyricism intertwine to create a musical experience that is calming and fulfilling. According to PlvXid, the beat itself is called Exhale. It fits perfectly with the theme of the song and carries the message well. "I hope that people can vibe to it."
Eastside
The single Breathe is only a sneak peak of the talent and hard work that will be showcased in his upcoming album, Eastside, set to release in September. I asked PlvXid about his experience creating this album and allowed him to expand on what it means to him. He described the session as very "high energy".
"It was a lot of staying up late and high energy all the time."
The album itself is meant to tell a story. "Its personal." The east side is where PlvXid is from, therefore its what he relates to. The personal touch on this album is evident. Its been a work in progress for years, simmering until it was just perfect enough for release. That’s what makes this album release so special. It is a large introduction not only as a solo artist, but as a artist with something to say, period. PlvXid describes this album as "in home", meaning that in some ways, it’s a lot deeper than just rapping.
Finding Your Balance
All hardworking artists understand the struggle of balance. Between music, social life and more, it can be hard to stay centered. As stated previously, PlvXid was in college during his Noname feature, and now he works on something other than his music for a living. So the question then becomes, how does he find a balance? According to the artist, a balance between social life and musical aspirations comes easy.
"My social life revolves around my music."
PlvXid states that his friends are all in someway involved with his music or they also make their own music. This allows for his music life and social life to be virtually the same thing. The challenge comes when its time to balance work and music. Both a truly full time jobs, but PlvXid is still finding the time in between to buckle down on his passion.
Whats Next?
So whats next from PlvXid? Along with the album dropping next month, collection 4 of his clothing line will be dropping. There will also be more shows, events and music to expect so stay tuned in and be on the look out!
Advice For The Lovelace Family
As always, I asked the artist for some advice because at Lovelace, its all about helping others and constantly pulling each other up.
"Be yourself in whatever you’re doing… don’t show off. Be level headed and find that perfect balance for yourself. Most importantly, keep the peace, love and creativity."
Keep in touch with the artist, stay up-to-date with upcoming music and events and vibe with PlvXid anytime through his social media!

tagged by nini (@tanqram) to share the story of how i biased yanjun!
before i start, i want to say THANK YOU ♡ to nini ! i’m really, really glad i did this ! — it reminded me of all the moments that made me fall for yanjun, and gave me the freedom to address even the littlest details that i’ve come to learn & love about him :’)
Idol Producer Era
to be completely honest, looking back on when i first started watching idol producer, i would have never ever ever expected yanjun to become my bias. but alas... he not only became my bias, but skyrocketed up my entire bias list and became my ultimate bias.
i distinctly remember that the first video i watched of yanjun was his Upward! Challenge, and my first impressions were:
cute taiwanese accent
beanie man
the guy who told a cold joke instead of using the allotted time to promote himself (reflecting on this, it was actually a very tactful way of promoting himself because it made him memorable ! moreover, cold jokes are such a large part of yanjun, so he was really just being himself :’> )
this video was enough to leave an impression of yanjun on me from the beginning, but it wasn’t enough for me to remember his name. i also didn’t watch his introduction video until waaay after i was into the show, when i really started noticing him. so at this point in my mind, he was really just the ‘cute taiwanese boy with the beanie’.
it’s such a shame that i didn’t notice yanjun all that much in the beginning. perhaps this was because of the lack of screen time he had, but because i didn’t see ‘cute taiwanese boy with the beanie’ again that much in the first few episodes of IP, he was quickly pushed back into the corner of my mind by the many many other trainees on the show.
then came the first evaluation in episode 4, and yanjun was in codename contra team a. when yanjun introduced himself on stage, he kept it super brief and cool, only saying, “hello everyone, i’m rapper lin yanjun” and i thought, woah what a stoic guy...giving off such a strong aura despite such a quick and short introduction...and what enhanced his ‘高冷’ aura was of course his handsome face. i feel like the vibe he gave off here (cold yanjun) was so different than the vibe he gave off in the Upward! challenge (soft yanjun), that i literally didnt even acknowledge that this man in codename contra was the same ‘cute taiwanese boy with the beanie’. so i thought i was basically watching a new trainee that i havent noticed before. when the voting results came out for the members, yanjun had suuuch a high number of votes that i was like woooow this guy is really popular, and no wonder, because he’s so handsome :0 its all visuals man. boy was i wrong
i continued to watch the rest of the team evaluations, and yanjun basically didn’t pop back up again until AI NI TEAM in ep 7. and boy oh boy was my world turned upside down.
if i remember correctly, i watched the clip of the ai ni performance video on youtube before i watched the full episode 7 on iqiyi, and let me just say that tHE MOMENT YANJUN STARTED HARMONIZING TO JEFFERY AND DINGHAO’S FIRST LINES, I WAS JUST LIKE. WHO. IS. THAT MAN. and WHY HAVE I NOT NOTICED HIM BEFORE???? (clearly, yanjun’s image changed so much that i could not link him back to the same rapper guy in codename contra, nor his upward challenge video) and then yanjun’s first line in ai ni just threw me out of the window and like i was sQUEALING the entire time. i’m rewatching it as i am writing this and I still get the butterflies in my stomach....because the concept is so fluffy and cute and i am weak to vocal yanjun. the whole time i was just asking myself who yanjun was, and his voice suited the song so much and i was just practically melting the whole time. (i still am every time i rewatch this performance tbh)
thanks to the ai ni performance, the rest of my idol producer journey was basically a scavenger hunt for every single yanjun moment i could find. i went to finally watch the entire ep 7, and found out how dorky and funny and playful yanjun really is during the training clips of ai ni team, went back to watch his introduction video, and like scrambled to find him in the first evaluation, where I finally realized that THIS IS THE SAME RAPPER MAN IN CODENAME CONTRA, AND HE’S THE CUTE TAIWANESE BEANIE GUY. i basically had an epiphany and was like WOW cute beanie guy is now my BIAS.
so after ep 7 was when i REALLY really really really REALLY focused on yanjun. i was sososososo happy he and nongnong were both placed in firewalking, 1. bc it was my fave song from the concept song demos, and 2. he and nongnong are so compatible and i love seeing them together.
in ep 9, a really memorable clip was when dinghao was feeling down and the rest of the banana boys sat down with him to talk it out and comfort him. here, a lot of yanjun’s individual commentary was shown and i think this was when i first started to learn about his mature side that was really genuine, reflective, and empathetic to others. around this time was also when i watched the videos of yanjun reading fan letters, and i found how the fans and him communicated with each other was so cute, and how he smiled and laughed as he read the letters was so endearing.... it really showed how much he loved his fans, and how he thought about showing more of himself through the show. theres one part in the video where the fan wrote, “i wish you to fight for more screen time so more people can know about you!” and yanjun just laughed and replied, “omg sorry...i really don’t know how to...*nervously laughs* ok-no-nvm-i WILL TRY MY BEST” and IDK WHY but my heart kinda broke at this moment because i could relate???? like, he obviously wanted to try his best and have more screen time so more people would notice him, but at the same time he’s really not the type to show off, but rather, he’s the type to quietly work hard by himself to be acknowledged, and akrjhgkjhgjkhjjh i kinda had a moment of reflection that i didn’t notice him much in the beginning either because of the lack of screen time, so ;___; this moment really made me realize how he’s always quietly working hard and will show his efforts and thoughts in a more hidden and private manner, but once his efforts reach you, it’ll impact you so much stronger than if he went and announced his efforts publicly. (did this even make sense... do u know what i mean dkjhkhg)
fast forward to it’s okay - i’m still sosoossooso happy yanjun got to be the center. i think it definitely contributed to him rising in ranking and finally placing #5, which no one expected. i’ll never forget the moment he bent down on his knees and kissed the stage, it was really a life changing moment for him.
Post Idol Producer
after IP ended and yanjun finally becoming a confirmed member, i wanted to keep up with his and 9%’s activities so i started a tumblr. hmmmm... this was when i started actively stalking following yanjun on weibo, and found quirks about him through his posts, and through other fans’ posts about him. for example, he always keeps the messages in his posts short, will express his thoughts in hashtags (much like tumblr, but he’s so much more poetic about it lol), will share songs with fans frequently, will share the books and movies he enjoys, will always wear the gifts that his fansites gift him to confirm that he’s received them, loves art&literature, is quiet and reserved so he may come off as cold but is actually very thoughtful and warm and always thinking about those around him, always tries to read his fans letters because they energize him, loves taking long baths to destress.....
and the more i found out, the more i realized that other evanisms also love the same things about yanjun - that he’s so much more than just a pretty face. he’s introverted, which makes his actions more complex as they are motivated by a deeper meaning he wishes to express. he prefers staying at home and engaging in activities alone rather than going outside, which makes fans more intrigued in what types types of books and movies and music he likes, all the more to better understand him. evanisms all really empathize with yanjun because of his sincerity and transparency with his words. what he says hold so much truth, and it’s hard to stop yourself from dissecting it sometimes.
even though now i’m not as caught up with his activities as before, i still really really love and respect yanjun as both a person and an artist :) i really look forward to his future, i’m sure big things are in store for him.

THE PROPHECY OF AMOS - From The Latin Vulgate Bible
Chapter 4
INTRODUCTION.
Amos prophesied in Israel about the same time as Osee, and was called from following the cattle to denounce God's judgments to the people of Israel and the neighbouring nations, for their repeated crimes, in which they continued with repentance. (Challoner) --- The kingdom was then almost free from idolatry, except that of the calves, yet dissolute and flourishing under Jeroboam II. The prophet spoke at Bethel, (chap. vii.) till the idolatrous priest, Amasias, forced him to flee to Thecua, four leagues south of Jerusalem, where he continued to prophesy against the various nations of Damascus, Juda, &c., but particularly against Israel, chap. i., &c. How long he continued is uncertain. St. Jerome and others account his style rustic; but St. Augustine (Doct. iv. 7.) as good a judge, pronounces that it was eloquent, and like that of the other inspired writers, suited to the speakers. (Calmet) --- Amos means "one carrying," or "a people torn away." (St. Jerome in Joel.) (Haydock) --- He deals in metaphors agreeably to his pastoral education, but is profound in sense. (St. Jerome, ep. ad Paulin.) --- After denouncing judgments on different nations, he foretells the coming of Christ and abundance of grace. (Worthington)
Chapter 4
The Israelites are reproved for their oppressing the poor, for their idolatry, and their incorrigibleness.
1 Hear this word, ye fat kine that are in the mountains of Samaria: you that oppress the needy, and crush the poor: that say to your masters: Bring, and we will drink.
Notes & Commentary:
Ver. 1. Fat kine. He means the great ones that lived in plenty and wealth, (Challoner) and without restraint, (Isaias xv. 5., and Jeremias xlvi. 20.; Calmet) having no compassion for the poor. (Worthington) --- The women who had too great an ascendency over their husbands, like Jezabel, may also be meant. (Theodoret; Grotius) --- In many parts of the East the women affect being fat.
2 The Lord God hath sworn by his holiness, that lo, the days shall come upon you, when they shall lift you up on pikes, and what shall remain of you in boiling pots.
Ver. 2. Holiness. He has none but himself to swear by, Hebrews vi. 13. His word is infallible; but he condescends to use an oath to make a deeper impression on man. --- Pikes; spits, or large shields. Hebrew also, "They will lead you away with hooks, (in the nose, Isaias xxxvii. 29.) and your children with fish-hooks," or pots. You shall be treated like victims, being either roasted or boiled. No part shall be left.
3 And you shall go out at the breaches, one over-against the other, and you shall be cast forth into Armon, saith the Lord.
Ver. 3. Breaches of the city. (Calmet) --- Septuagint, "naked." Hebrew, "apart." (Haydock) --- The victors shall divide you among them. (Calmet) --- Armon, a foreign country; some understand it of Armenia, (Challoner) and this is the general opinion. (Menochius) --- Septuagint, "on Mount Remmon." Theodotion, "Mona." Israel was removed into Armenia, "the mountain of Menni," Jeremias li. 27.
4 Come ye to Bethel, and do wickedly: to Galgal, and multiply transgressions: and bring in the morning your victims, your tithes in three days.
Ver. 4. Galgal. Thither the people went of their own accord, as to a place of devotion, Osee iv. 15. Amos ironically tells them to proceed, as Christ addressed the Jews, Matthew xxiii. 32. (Calmet) --- After many admonitions have proved fruitless, God suffers infidels to act as they please. (Worthington) --- This is the most dreadful of his judgments. (Haydock) --- Morning, with haste. --- Three days. This also may denote the false exactitude of the Israelites to perform what God did not require, while they neglected the most essential duties, like the Pharisees. It may also imply the giving tithes every third year, (Deuteronomy xiv. 28.) or presenting themselves at the three great festivals, Exodus xxiii. 14. The schismatics observed parts of the law, and had a devotion of their own choice. (Calmet)
5 And offer a sacrifice of praise with leaven: and call free offerings, and proclaim it: for so you would do, O children of Israel, saith the Lord God.
Ver. 5. With. Hebrew mechamets, (Haydock) also "without leaven." It was expressly forbidden, (Leviticus ii. 11.) though not in the first fruits, Leviticus xxiii. 17. --- It, to beg that God would remember you, Numbers x. 10. Hence the Pharisees did so when they gave alms, (Matthew vi. 2.; Calmet) but out of ostentation. (Haydock) --- Septuagint, "And they read the law of their own invention, (Theodoret) or of God, out of the land, (which the Jews were not to do; St. Chrysostom, or. 3. c. Jud. Const. Apost. vi. 24.) and proclaimed praise or confession." (Haydock) --- These interpreters read inaccurately, (Calmet) krau méuts thure, &c., yet S. Jerome explains their words of heretics reading the Scriptures out of the true Church, and misapplying them.
6 Whereupon I also have given you dulness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet you have not returned to me, saith the Lord.
Ver. 6. Dulness, (stuporem) as when the teeth have bitten at a stone (Haydock) and are edged, Jeremias xxxi. 29. Septuagint, "gnashing." Hebrew, "cleanness," through want of food. Eliseus foretold a famine under Achab, 4 Kings viii. 1. That of Joel (i.) seems to have happened later than this. (Calmet) --- God sent these afflictions for their amendment. (Worthington)
7 I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon: and the piece whereupon I rained not, withered.
Ver. 7. Months. The latter rain falls in April. See Deuteronomy xi. 14. (Calmet) --- Harvest. Septuagint have as usual, "vintage." But this is less accurate, as it never rains in the preceding summer months. (St. Jerome)
8 And two and three cities went to one city to drink water, and were not filled: yet you returned not to me, saith the Lord.
Ver. 8. No explanation given.
9 I struck you with a burning wind, and with mildew, the palmer-worm hath eaten up your many gardens, and your vineyards: your olive-groves, and fig-groves: yet you returned not to me, saith the Lord.
Ver. 9. Wind. Protestants, "blasting." (Haydock) --- "Pestilential air," (Septuagint, Symmachus, &c.) which destroys the corn (Calmet) and men. (Haydock)
10 I sent death upon you in the way of Egypt, I slew your young men with the sword, even to the captivity of your horses: and I made the stench of your camp to come up into your nostrils: yet you returned not to me, saith the Lord.
Ver. 10. Egypt, as I published the Egyptians, (Calmet) or the Hebrews, when they came thence, and wished to return. (Chaldean; St. Cyril) --- Horses. I have deprived you of them, (Haydock) under Achab and Joachaz, 4 Kings vi. and xiii. --- Nostrils. Hazael slew many subjects of Jehu, 4 Kings x. 32. (Calmet) --- The stench of their carcasses and of the locusts caused death or the plague. (Haydock)
11 I destroyed some of you, as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha, and you were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet you returned not to me, saith the Lord.
Ver. 11. Burning. This comparison shews the condition of Israel. Hardly any escaped, Zacharias iii. 2., and 1 Corinthians iii. 15. (Calmet)
12 Therefore I will do these things to thee, O Israel: and after I shall have done these things to thee, be prepared to meet thy God, O Israel.
Ver. 12. These. He mentions not what, to keep them in greater suspense and dread; (St. Jerome) or he will put in execution what he had threatened before, ver. 2. --- Meet. Septuagint, "beseech." Appearing before The Dramacourt: While You Were Sleeping Eps 9 and 10
***If this is your first time browsing The Drama Files, please read The Rules section first for our reviewing and rating system***
***Disclaimer***: This analysis based on Canadian law. This is also NOT LEGAL ADVICE for anyone and this drama is FICTIONAL.
Issues:
Whether the mother-daughter relationship is believable.
Whether you can charge someone as abetting driving under the influence (DUI).
Whether the best way to get a coworker to take over your night shift is to offer to set them up on a blind date.
Whether Woo Tak’s theory makes sense.
The Rule(s):
Totally.
Maybe. It depends on the facts of the case.
Depends on how desperate the coworker is.
Yes. Its totally logical and makes sense.
Analysis:
RedRosette J: This episode was really really slow and was totally filler. Honestly, there was no need spend an hour on resolving Hong Joo’s “should I or should I not got back to work” issue. It could have been resolved in 30 minutes or less. What I did like about this episode was how it showed that the characters are all intertwined in some way. The coffee shop girl to the chicken shop guy (who is Kang Ki Young in an awesome cameo as the “Chicken Killer”) to our lead characters. It’s a weird six degrees of separation situation. Other than Hong Joo’s work issue, Woo Tak desperately trying to figure out the connection between the Dream Scooby Gang, the introduction of the Chicken Killer, and a super creative way to include a Subway PPL, nothing else of much significance really happened.
Seeing your death may be pretty scary
Trying to convince your brother to do something like…
…and it doesn’t work
When you are dead serious about getting your money’s worth of chicken
Starring: Kang Ki Young as the “Chicken Killer”
When you’re questioning your life choices
When you a boss and you know it
The curse of the night shift
Something is wrong in this scenario
RedRosette J: There were some romantic moments where Jae Chan decided that he was going to be there for Hong Joo and there was some hugging and stuff but honestly, I’m still not sold on the romance and it seemed like he was just waiting for it to end. Also, Yoo Beom is back to being a lawyer as if none of his reprehensible acts from last week happened (Ugh!). At least the previews for the next episodes were a little bit more exciting: read courtroom drama.
Changing the future like…
What’s the point of ties if not to wipe of smudged eye makeup?
Romantic?
Yup. Still an ass.
Issue 1: Whether the mother-daughter relationship is believable.
RedRosette J: One of the most believable things in this drama is the mother-daughter relationship between Hong Joo and her mother. They are BFFs in addition to being mother and daughter and I love that she believes that her mother is her rock and her safe space. Her mother, likewise, stands and watches guard over Hong Joo. I love that she’s a very observant character and only intervenes when she feels like there is a genuine threat to her daughter. I think this type of relationship is really believable and really legit. I love these two! #motherdaughtergoals
Issue 2: Whether you can charge someone as abetting driving under the influence (DUI).
RedRosette J: This issue that the prosecutors were arguing about is a bit tedious. In Canadian law, there isn’t really “abetting DUIs” that someone can be charged with. I’m not sure whether the Korean Penal Code has something like this, but according to Canadian law, something that they might charge this person under might be Criminal Negligence. Section 219 of the Canadian Criminal Code states that a person can be charged for doing something or even omitting to do something which shows a “wanton or reckless disregard for the lives or safety of other persons.” This would likely mean that some sort of argument would have to be made to say that the fact that the person who gave the driver the keys and told him how to avoid the cops is behaviour that amounts to this “wanton or reckless disregard”. Obviously, other facts will have to be assessed such as a the casualties resulting from the accident and such.
However, the Chief Prosecutor’s argument that charging this person would be too harsh because he was far too removed from the causal chain of events is not likely to hold up: i.e. he didn’t even drive and all he did was give the guy the keys. In a test for negligence, you have to ask “if not for the acts of someone, would the outcome have occurred?” Arguably in this case, if not for the guy giving the keys over, the accident might not have happened. I’m not too sure if this was an issue of the translation, but Jae Chan tries to describe the same remoteness issue (the whole if not for thing…) to Hong Joo when she asks him whether he decided to vote on the issue or not. He says something like it was because he did such a trivial thing that such an awful outcome came about. As to whether this argument would work requires a deeper examination of the facts and events that happened and its all very complex.
Issue 3: Whether the best way to get a coworker to take over your night shift is to offer to st them up on a blind date.
RedRosette J: If they are desperate enough, this seems like the best incentive. I really really want to see Jae Chan follow through on this and watch his awkward and weird coworker go on this blind date LOL!
#desperatevibes
Issue 4: Whether Woo Tak’s theory makes sense.
RedRosette J: This was not the theory that I was leaning towards, but it works. It also made a lot of sense in the way that Woo Tak explained it. Feelings of extreme gratitude and indebtedness caused them to have dreams about the person who saved them so that they would be able to repay the debt by saving that person’s life. Makes total sense if you follow the chain of logic. Hong Joo saved Jae Chan so he dreams about her and Jae Chan saved Woo Tak so he dreams about him. The bigger question now is whether the coffee shop girl is going to start dreaming about Hong Joo too because she saved her and she felt the burning (even though she didn’t actually burn). Hmmmmm…..
You sure it wasn’t a girl who saved you brah?
RedRosette J Aside: Here’s more of Jang Hae In’s cute face:
Conclusion: Appeal Dismissed.
Rating: 3 = MM. Okay. Fine (Too draggy. Please stop with Hong Joo’s pity party)
