Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus - Old Town Road 2019

"Old Town Road" is the debut mainstream single by American rapper Lil Nas X, first released independently in December 2018. After gaining popularity, the single was re-released in March 2019. The rapper also recorded a remix with American country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, which was released on April 5, 2019. Both were included on Lil Nas X's second EP, 7 (2019). Dutch record producer YoungKio composed the instrumental and made it available for purchase online in 2018. It features a sample of "34 Ghosts IV" by the American industrial rockband Nine Inch Nails. The sample was placed behind trap-style Roland TR-808 drums and bass. Lil Nas X purchased the instrumental for US$30 and recorded "Old Town Road" in one day.

The song reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart before the magazine disqualified it from the chart on the grounds that it did not "fit" the genre, sparking a debate on what constitutes the "definition" of country music. Though "Old Town Road" did not re-enter any country charts, both versions of the song collectively peaked at number 1 on the main Billboard Hot 100, remaining at the top for a record-breaking 19 consecutive weeks; the remix peaked at number 50 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. "Old Town Road"'s overall run at number one is the longest in chart history, surpassing the previous record of sixteen weeks achieved by both "One Sweet Day" (poll #296) and "Despacito". One or more versions of "Old Town Road" have topped the national singles charts in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the UK, and have charted in the top 10 in various other international markets.

The song was certified diamond by the RIAA in October 2019 for selling 10 million total units in the US, the fastest song to be certified diamond. At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, the remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus was nominated for Record of the Year and won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video. In September 2021, the song set the record for the second-highest certified song in history by the RIAA, at 16× platinum in the US - meaning it accumulated 16 million equivalent song units. The single has sold over 18 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

1,322,068 words (at the moment)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Still writing for The Flash, but every once in a while a new show/movie grabs my fancy and I write a few fics for that.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

An unimpressive bunch but here goes: Muse (456), Replacement Scrunchie (393), Fallen Star (357), Inconvenient Inspiration (343), and Drabbles (277). Muse is a handful of one-shots based solely off spoilers before I saw the eps they were for. Replacement Scrunchie is my sole fic for the TATBILB fandom about Peter & LJ's first date (which was way less impressive than what the sequel movie gave us, WOW). Fallen Star is my most popular westallen fic to date, so that one's actually not too surprising. But both Inconvenient Inspiration and Drabbles are requested (the latter) and spontaneous (the former) brainstorming ficlets and snippets for The Flash/WA. Bo-ring.

Eventually.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh, gosh, I have so many unfinished fics that it's hard to remember the complete ones that I finished that didn't end so happy, of which there aren't many. Maybe...Breaking Point though.

All the others have happy endings. Go read them. Lol.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

When I wrote for another fandom I did, but not really in The Flash fandom, which is nice.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yep. And uh...descriptive, I guess? I'm def not the best out there, but I do my best and for the most part smut-lovers seem to enjoy.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I've attempted a couple crossovers, but I haven't completed any or gotten far with them, usually because there wasn't an audience for it.

Yeah, I discovered a whole bunch on another website years ago.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Stuck on Westallen atm, but I used to write Chair, and I was highly obsessed with them as well.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oh god, I have SO MANY WIPs. One that I really want to finish but fear I won't though has got to be He's MY Barry Allen. I'm just stuck on what the next chapter will look like, and as of yet no one has come forward with a solution. Lol. The Problem is Tony Woodward is another one like that.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'd like to think I can hook people into my fics fairly well and drop enough cliffies to keep them coming back for more. But ofc the smut helps too. Most of my fics include at least some smut, even a single scene.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Sometimes I have trouble making a chapter (or a scene for that matter) all that long. I've seen people write like 10k+ for a chap, and unless I'm crazy inspired, roughly 1-3k is what you're getting.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I actually dabbled in this a little bit for a westallen fic where Iris was learning Italian, I think? I did some research and managed to sift in enough for that one-shot, but I can't imagine I'd do it repeatedly or for a multi-chap.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I believe it was the STAR WARS prequels, but it might've been The Day After Tomorrow.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

It's unfinished, but there's so much untapped potential in my Flashpoint fic. Lots of world-building that's present as it rides the line between canon divergent and AU. Hopefully one day I'll get back to it.

new guy: she listened to mikeys podcast on wbg. she was one of the only people to listen to mikeys podcast. she plays wbg bc of the podcast and has a HORRIBLE time. utter misery. its worth it tho. god and shes fully aware of the challenges and everything??? anyway she thinks "man. ive GOT to meet mike walters" and so stalks OVER for awhile until troy is on gate duty and successfully gets in and then just. KNOCKS ON MIKEYS DOOR????? girl WHAT are you doing. she visits either before 357-a (am i remembering those numbers right. whatever) or before ep 28 the flinchiate? not sure yet. before mikey visits glacier, i think. IDK!!

JAS CAN COOK! EP 03: BEEF PHO word count: 357

after experimenting with chinese dan dan noodles in the last episode, jaehwa aimed to improve her culinary skills by incorporating more ingredients for the upcoming episode. with vietnam as the theme, banh mi seemed like a straightforward choice at first, but she soon realized it was as simple as making a sandwich. then she stumbled upon beef pho. not only did it include a wider array of ingredients, the preparation time also seemed more extensive. believing that good food takes time, jaehwa took on the challenge.

"hello, starshines! welcome to another episode of 'jas can cook!' in today's episode, i'll be preparing vietnamese gluten-free beef pho, a fragrant, flavorful soup noodle dish perfect for warming your stomach in this weather. without further ado, let's dive into the ingredients." the scene transitioned to a variety of ingredients laid out on the table, the camera panning slowly as the amount overwhelmed the screen. star anise, cinnamon, ginger, cilantro —ingredients that jaehwa wasn't particularly fond of and hadn't worked with before. however, her love for pho overshadowed her distaste for each ingredient. hopefully the combination would yield a delicious result.

"we'll start with the broth," she announced, gathering the necessary ingredients while stealing glances at the recipe. "saute onions, ginger, and garlic on high heat to achieve a nice char. you can add brown sugar or regular sugar to expedite the process." the pot sizzled as she added the mentioned ingredients. "then, add bone broth, cinnamon, star anise, and fish sauce, and let it simmer for twenty minutes."

for the next fifteen minutes, jaehwa meticulously prepares the remaining ingredients before adding them to the rich broth. "and there you have it, vietnamese beef broth!" she declares, dipping her spoon in for a taste. initially, the flavor seems unfamiliar due to the star anise and cilantro, but after a few sips, it evolves into a earthy and herbal essence. "in terms of appearance, maybe an eight. as for taste, a seven? i'm not particularly fond of herb, and their flavor came through quite strong here so i'll have to deduct some points. however, i'd still prefer ordering takeout for this dish."

Everything about this drama is perfect. Trigger warning, this drama does touch some really sensible topics. There is also a later version which does have it's own plot but is set in the same school a few years later. Also Doji morita is just the perfect music to capture the feelings of youth.
