jaehwa had zero interest or knowledge in chess. she had seen videos of people playing on television and found them dull despite the game’s reputation as a strategic exercise for the brain. watching her family members play often put her to sleep. although they once tried to teach her the roles of each chess piece, her disinterest quickly erased whatever she learned. so when the crystallis members had to decide on a chess piece, jaehwa was naturally at a loss.
“thanks,” she said, accepting the yogurt cup from the older member. “not yet. i was forced to learn chess once. but since i hated it, none of it stuck,” she added calmly while peeling off the yogurt seal. “i mean, why would i keep something i was forced to learn? my brain has limited storage space, and i’m definitely not paying for an upgrade.”

Growing up, Soyoun had never considered herself a chess expert. That was more of her dad's thing, so she supposes she knows enough basics just to get by. Or at least come to a conclusion which chess piece she wants for herself. Although she has some options, she settles for one that matches her role with the team overall. Though she's satisfied with her decision, she still wants to hear what the others have decided on.
Settling next to Jaehwa, Soyoun offers her a yogurt cup before getting straight to the point. "Have you chosen a chess piece yet?" She pouts as she contemplates her life choices, considering she wonders whether Alize will agree with her or not on her chess piece and the reasoning behind it. She only has bare minimum knowledge of chess, all of which came from her dad. She can play a few games, but there's no guarantee she'll win. "How good are you at chess?"

YEAR END CEREMONIES: YEAR END SCHEDULES word count: 323
this wasn’t the first time crystallis had won an award, but jaehwa was genuinely surprised every time they did. her reaction wasn’t for the cameras; it was heartfelt. with so many talented groups nominated each year, including fabula and nova, she thought their chances were slim. so when crystallis’ #menow was announced as best dance performance by a female group at the mama awards, she instinctively covered her mouth in shock.
after bowing to idols who congratulated them, jaehwa followed her members to the stage with an excited heart. “hello, we are crystallis,” she greeted alongside her group, bowing deeply to the audience. as the leader delivered the speech, jaehwa’s eyes scanned the crowd, her gaze lighting up whenever she spotted alize among the audience. seeing how their fandom grew with every award season filled her with pride and reminded her of their responsibility to work even harder.
when the mic was passed her way, jaehwa slowly felt nervous. unlike filming for youtube videos where she could do multiple retakes, public speaking wasn’t her strong suit, and she usually stayed quietly at the edge of the group during speeches. but now, with the microphone in her hands, she mustered her courage. “um… i just want to say a huge thank you to my group members who work tirelessly to give their best during every promotion, our managers who take care of us, and our makeup artists who make us look so pretty—not just today, but for every appearance. and lastly, to our dear alize! you’ve been with us through everything, and we’re nothing without you. thank you! we’ll keep working hard to give you our best, so please continue to show us your love!”
she paused briefly before addressing their international fans in english. “to all our international alize around the world, thank you for your endless support. until the day we meet, please take care of yourselves. i love you guys!”

"to be honest, i wasn’t exactly the active type before becoming an idol," jaehwa admitted with a sheepish smile. exercise was never her thing; the thought of dealing with sore arms and legs the day after a workout didn’t appeal to her. as a trainee, however, daily dance practices weren’t optional, and she had no choice but to push her body to its limits. whether she enjoyed it or not, those sessions did wonders for her stamina over time.
it wasn’t until the past few years, when fitness became a trend with influencers and celebrities sharing their workout routines, that jaehwa started to take a different approach. caught up in the movement, she began visiting the gym regularly, and now it’s become a habit for her to go at least once every two days.
"so to debunk that claim, no, not all idols are built different," she countered with a light chuckle. "while i’ve committed to staying fit now, i can assure you some of my members would much rather stay curled up in bed during their breaks. our stamina comes from years of training, not because we’re inclined to it."
yein nods, counting the time in her head. if they've already been at this for two hours, then another hour doesn't seem so bad. and if they go on for longer than that, then she would be tired, but she's determined to do everything and anything she can for this role. so whether it's one hour or more, all she can do is hope that her body will build up the stamina the more they train.
"i'm not really a physical activity kind of person." she admits with a shrug. yein has always been the princess type, sitting at home with her dog, watching shows, doing activities that didn't involve heavy exertion. it's why she had decided early on in her career that she wasn't going to be an idol, despite having trained for it in the first few months — she always knew that dancing wasn't for her.
she went to pilates every once in a while, when she felt like she was being too sedentary, or when her roommate asked her to, but now she's thinking maybe she should have gone more often. there's little she can do about that now though, so she doesn't think too much about it, and she smiles at jaehwa. "i guess idols are just built different."

PROJECT AKA: REFLECTION word count: 206
being specially invited to audition, despite not being a widely recognized actress, spoke volumes about how her hard work was finally being noticed. landing the main lead role was unexpected especially with a portfolio dominated by supporting roles and just one lead in an average drama. she knew she still had a long way to go in the acting industry but this was an opportunity she was determined not to take for granted.
“i was initially uncomfortable during the workshop because everyone already seemed familiar with each other,” she explained to the director. “as someone with fewer acting lessons compared to the others, i felt a bit like the odd one out. however, what i lacked in training, i made up for with the experience i gained from my past dramas. reminding myself that i wasn’t entirely new to acting helped boost my confidence.”
she paused briefly, gathering her thoughts before moving to the next topic. “as for my level of comfort with action scenes, i’d rate it an eight out of ten. i prefer to learn and perform my own scenes because it feels more authentic. but i completely understand that some stunts are too dangerous, so i’m happy to leave those to the professionals.”

jaehwa was unsure about cream soda. she loved the dance aspect, especially the opportunity to explore different styles, but some parts of the concept carried a suave vibe that made her question if she could pull it off. still, it was a challenge she was ready to tackle. who knows? maybe she’d end up looking great in a stylish tux.
her role in team versus, however, was a dilemma on its own. she couldn’t decide which was better: being one of the oldest and finally getting to order the younger ones around or being playfully treated as one of the youngest by the actual younger members. back in crystallis, slipping into her role had been easy since she was one of the youngest by age. but when milan decided to toss out all formalities (no thanks to yaja time) and call her by her full name, jaehwa couldn’t hide her surprise. a fleeting expression of annoyance crossed her face before she quickly masked it.
with her brightest smile, she channeled all her inner child energy and sprinted toward the younger older member. “unnie! i’m officially yours now!” she squealed in a high-pitched tone, fighting the goosebumps rising on her arms.
EVENT: AAA SPECIAL STAGE POST TYPE: STARTER FOR @lgcjaehwa TITLE: YAJA TIME
it only takes milan three minutes to forget her anguish over her song pick. don't get her wrong, 'cream soda' is an amazing song, and any nova member can attest that it was a staple of milan's shower concerts for several months. the issue is milan herself and her lack of... suavity. if she manages to keep herself from smiling during the performance, it would be miracle already.
but back to the practice room. yes, it only takes her three minutes to forget why they are gathered here, thanks to the staff announcement. as much as she's happy about being one of youngest in the group, being the youngest and suddenly becoming the oldest is actually thrilling. and therefore, she's quick to target one of the true oldest member of the group (now a youngest thanks to yaja time). placing her hands around her mouth as if she's shouting, she shots her shot before thinking twice. "jaehwa sun--" habits catch up fast. "i mean, ahn jaehwa! you! be mine!" she declares.
in any other situation, milan wouldn't have been able to approach a crystallis member so casually. but life is meant to be lived and not regretted, so there goes nothing.

breathe in, breathe out. sure, most people name their pets after food such as strawberry, cookie, buttercup. but pork chops? that’s… an unusual choice, even for a non-mutant pet. then again, she couldn’t exactly judge. she had her heart set on naming her future dog ‘rice grain’ because it was bound to be a tiny, fluffy, white pup that looked just like, well, rice. at least in her defense, it was a cute name.
as rowon spoke, she nodded along, genuinely impressed by how effortlessly he could improvise. it was her turn now, and she needed to step up. “nope, but i do plan on getting one,” she began, using her actual dream of owning a dog as the foundation for her answer. “maybe something fluffy, cute, and cuddly? i remember seeing a ton of adorable ones at the pet store.” her hand instinctively moved behind the mutant’s ‘ear,’ giving it a few light scratches.
“my family had a creature when i was a kid,” she added, leaning further into the story. “but i wasn’t too fond of it because it always stole my books and turned them back into wood.” she blinked, realizing what she had just said. a paper-eating creature that reverted paper into wood? now that was a completely random detail she hadn’t planned on blurting out. still, it was improv, and the absurdity of it actually fit the vibe.
they’re fighting a losing battle. rowon realizes this the second the name “pork chops” slips out. but let it be known, it wasn’t entirely random. see, he was also desperate for a distraction, so he started running down his roster of recipes and thinking about what he could make for dinner tonight. and yes, he just so happened to think of pork chops right when jaehwa asked the question.
so now, that’s his mutant pet’s lovely name.
“i was throwing out pork chops that i’d burnt — took me days to air that out, wouldn’t recommend — and this big guy jumped out from behind the dumpsters and stole it from me. followed me all the way home and kept whimpering outside my window. i didn’t have the heart to chase him off, so i took him in. he’s been ‘porks chops’ ever since.” thank god, lying comes easily to him. rowon crouches down and pretends to scratch pork chops behind the ears. “got any weird creatures of your own?”

a grin spreads across jaehwa’s face as she realizes she’s won. relief washes over her when the older woman decides not to press further. if she had, jaehwa might have caved and started spilling small details that would inevitably lead to bigger revelations. “it’ll be worth the wait, i promise. everyone’s working really hard to make this happen.”
“not yet,” she calls out, only to glance up at the mention of dinner. earlier, there hadn’t been enough lunch boxes on set due to a catering mix-up, and jaehwa had given up hers since she’d had a heavy breakfast. but after using so much energy on stunt practices and rehearsals, hunger claws at her. she could devour three bowls of ramen, or at least that was her plan before soyoun invited her for dinner.
honestly, with most of her time dedicated to acting, jaehwa can’t say her current schedule is much better than during crystallis’s comeback promotions. it’s less chaotic, sure, but still exhausting. there are days she returns to the dorms late at night, only to head out early the next morning. still, it’s nothing compared to those brutal stretches of just two hours of sleep between schedules. “i’ve been getting more than five hours of sleep lately, so i guess it’s alright,” she reassures with a cheeky grin. “you don’t have to send a drinks truck! but if you want to, i’m not going to say no.”
"I knew you'd say that," she playfully whines as she grabs another bottle of water for Jaehwa. She knows a losing battle when she sees one. Jaehwa's determined to be tight-lipped about this one, so the project has to be of a much larger-scale than Soyoun thinks it is. Or maybe Jaehwa's role is important to the project for her to be yapping around carelessly. "Fine, I'll wait."
She also decides she might as well offer Jaehwa some of the food she's preparing. "Have you eaten dinner? I was just deciding if I wanted to order dinner or cook something. You might as well join me if you're hungry." In Soyoun's defense, she's not as much of a menace in the kitchen as she used to be.
As the one who tends to mess around with the kids instead of be serious, Soyoun doesn't often get to show her caring side toward the younger members. "But really, Jaehwa, have you been getting any proper sleep these days? I should probably send a drink truck to your filming site on of these days, just to keep you guys warm while you're working..." Soyoun pouts as she looks into drink trucks that serve coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, along with some warm snacks.

"the clue is to wait till next year." despite being drained from the packed schedule, jaehwa couldn’t resist teasing her groupmate. it wasn’t that she didn’t trust soyoun, or any of her members for that matter. the truth was, she couldn’t risk being the one responsible for a leak. this was her first lead role, and slipping up by revealing even a tiny detail wasn’t worth the gamble.
as she made her way to the sofa to set down her bag, soyoun suddenly blocked her path. jaehwa raised a brow but smiled at her friend’s determination. “you never have, which is why i trust you so much,” she said with a gentle pat on soyoun’s shoulder. “but unfortunately for you, i love surprises. nobody’s getting a single hint this time. i want to see all your genuine reactions when we watch it together.”
with soyoun finally leaving her alone, jaehwa slumped onto the sofa, finally allowing herself a moment to relax. "yes, please!" she replied to the female in the kitchen, her voice slightly muffled as she leaned back into the cushions, letting her tiredness catch up with her.
SPOILER ALERT
"Just one clue, please," Soyoun says as she continues following @lgcjaehwa around their dorm when Jaehwa returns home from yet another schedule for her upcoming acting project. "I swear I won't tell anyone." Soyoun's been dying to know what's going on with Jaehwa's drama, but Jaehwa has been tight-lipped about it for a while. Soyoun always makes it a point to monitor her members' individual schedules and does her best to hype them up whenever she can. This upcoming drama will be no exception.
"We hardly ever see you anymore," Soyoun playfully says as she blocks Jaehwa's path. "I swear I won't spoil it! When have I ever spoiled your acting projects?" Chuckling, Soyoun decides to head over to the fridge for a bottle of water. "Want one?"

most of jaehwa’s previous roles were set in or around school so landing the main lead in an action drama was an entirely new and exciting challenge. it was a challenge she welcomed wholeheartedly, especially since the production provided an intensive workshop to help the cast prepare. though she had the option of using a stunt double, jaehwa was determined to perform as many of her scenes as possible to make them feel authentic and real.
her petite frame turned out to be an unexpected advantage during stunt training. her shorter height made it easier for her to execute backflips and other acrobatic moves. although physically demanding, it didn’t compare to the grueling intensity of her trainee days. years of rigorous dance training had built up her stamina and she found herself enjoying the process despite the sweat and exhaustion.
“not sure,” jaehwa replied when asked how much longer the session might last. “we usually have around three hours of dance practice, so if acting workshops are anything like that, i’d say we’ve got another hour to go.” even with her face glistening from sweat and strands of hair sticking to her cheeks, she managed to flash a cheerful smile. “tired already?”

yein had thought that by now they would be done with all this action training, that whatever workshops they had done months ago would suffice for this drama. but of course, she now realizes that she had been shortsighted to think that it would be all they would do. of course they would need more preparations with a whole drama.
and it's different now. she had done the last acting workshops as a way of learning new skill, but now she's entering these as the main role, and with the knowledge that she'll be leading this drama, she has a newfound sense of duty, a determined motivation that's somewhat unlike her when it comes to doing physical activity.
which is why she stands across from jaehwa, a bit tired from their first sparring match but otherwise ready for another, relaxing only when the instructors call for a break. she walks over to the other girl, a smile on her face finally. "i knew there was a lot involved with filming fight scenes, but this is even more than i expected." she laughs, getting a drink of water. "how long do you think we'll be at this?"

"i think we can incorporate different elements but keep the same overall vibe," jaehwa suggests, placing her phone on the table and scrolling through pinterest for inspiration. she had already saved plenty of ideas before deciding on lace gloves. they are versatile pieces that exude elegance and maturity while also adding a touch of sultry flair if styled just right.
"we do!" her eyes light up at yujin’s comment as she quickly swipes through her saved ideas to reveal a mood board. it featured a chic ensemble: a fisherman cap, a short tube dress, checkered stockings and sleek heels. "i’ve also come up with an outfit i’d love to try. of course, we don’t have to stick to this exactly. it’s just for inspiration. if the stylists can’t find these pieces, i’m fine with exploring other options."
she pauses, her gaze lingering on the outfit she had pieced together. a thought crosses her mind and she looks back at yujin with a small laugh. "do you think this is over the top? most idols show up in casual clothes for these events and here we are looking like we’re gearing up for a photoshoot." her airy laugh fills the room but there’s a glint of excitement in her eyes, clearly hinting that she’s ready to bring her a-game, photoshoot or not.
yujin doesn't know when the ribbons started to play more into her wardrobe. it was almost like a switch had gone off the moment they started trending, and they just stuck with her. however, it didn't stop her from wanting to be more on the mature side. sexy concepts have always caught the blonde's eye, even if there seemed to be a lack of some in the industry lately.
with her iPad already on display, yujin hummed with a soft smile on her face. "did you want to try and have matching elements in our outfits or are you ok with us being a bit different? i don't mind either way, just a little curious about what you've been thinking about."
in all honesty, yujin just needed to branch out more with her style. she was already leaning towards the ribbons but with sexier clothing. after all, she was almost twenty-five, it was about time she started looking like it. yujin took her eyes from her own device and leaned closer to look at jaehwa's phone. "oh I love these..." she muttered, thinking. "you have the gloves and I have the ribbons! techinally, we're going for the same vibes, almost." she chuckled.

over the years, lgc's halloween parties became infamous for the chaos brought by the notorious pranksters from dbsd. every year, their antics brought unexpected scares, flying pies, and carefully orchestrated surprises. when the duo was sent off for military service, the parties felt strangely tame in their absence. now that the boys were back, she found herself on high alert, her heart bracing for the moment something might fall, pop, or be hurled her way. yet, the event had been surprisingly smooth so far.
naturally, jaehwa suspected that the hidden cards scattered around the venue were part of their grand prank. no jumpscares had caught her off guard, her makeup remained flawless, and she was determined to keep it that way. so, when sehun casually suggested figuring out what the cards meant, she became wary.
"you mean i have to eat the card?" she blurted out, immediately regretting the ridiculous question. obviously, the sturdy piece of cardboard wasn’t edible. and then it all made sense. she had noticed a small candy under the lamp where she found the card. she had assumed it was meant for someone else and hadn’t given it a second thought. “oh… there was a candy near where i found this card,” she muttered, her voice uncertain as the pieces began to click. her expression hardened. “but if that candy has anything to do with this card, i’m not eating it.”
the collaboration for this year’s halloween had managed to lure an avid gamer such as kim sehun himself into attending, his costume being similar to that of final fantasy 7’s cloud strife in super smash bros. and there’s really no doubt that most of the effort into putting the look together had gone into the length of sehun dying his hair the shade of dirty blonde, and putting in blue—tinted contacts when he absolutely hates them. but it’s all worth it, when legacy hosts a party that makes one feel like a real character in a live video game.
by the time sehun reaches for the unfitting piece of card—paper hidden among the books of a shelf, he’s already scavenged around most of the venue with curiosity, taken at least one bite out of everything that was offered on the tables, and partaken in some of the gaming stations — except the latter was more observing than anything else. as far as he can remember, alice in wonderland never made an appearance in the nintendo franchise, which is why he gets thrown into a loop when the one he finds says: DRINK ME, a card that is entirely suspicious in itself.
sehun turns to the other figure; jaehwa, in the same moment that she does towards him, holding up his own with brows furrowed into a crease upon forehead. they seem to be matching already, for an unexpected pair. “no idea,” a shrug of shoulders, flipping the object in a repeat pattern, examining. “wanna find out together?”

throughout her acting career, jaehwa has had her fair share of funny behind-the-scenes moments. whether it was accidental bloopers or filming goofy tiktoks to lighten the mood and bond with co-actors, she’s always managed to find joy on set. however, stepping into green screen training for the first time was a whole new ballgame. it was extra challenging to keep a straight face while imagining the green backdrop behind her as a futuristic city, or, even more absurd, pretending that a bright green stick was a mutant brimming with puppy-like energy.
she couldn’t help but wonder if this was genuine training or an elaborate hidden camera prank. if it was the latter, she and her fellow cast members had unquestionably taken the bait. supposedly, she needed to look excited in the scene, but staying focused was nearly impossible when the green-clad stunt actor’s puppy-like antics had everyone stifling their laughter. as rowon called out to the 'mutant', jaehwa stood off to the side, her hands clasped tightly behind her back to hide how she was subtly pinching herself to stay focused.
the real challenge came when it was her turn to interact with the so-called mutant. forcing herself to make eye contact with the man who was galloping around like an overzealous golden retriever, she bit her lower lip to hold back a snort. crouching down to meet him at eye level, she extended a hand to 'pet' the imaginary mutant. “you’re such a good boy,” she said in her best cooing voice, though it wavered with the effort of holding back giggles. to keep herself from breaking entirely, she quickly looked up at rowon. “what’s his name?” she asked, desperate for a distraction from the absurdity in front of her.
STICK AROUND | @lgcjaehwa
rowon can count the number of times he’s genuinely laughed this week on one hand – and that’s being generous. rarely does he find things funny, but something about this stunt actor in a green morph suit with a green stick that’s meant to represent … he forgot ( read: he wasn’t listening ), but something about them makes rowon lose it. “sorry, sorry.” he looks away to regain composure, and when he comes back, his expression has neutralized into that of a ‘friendly, chill guy with a mutant pet.’
“come here, boy.” rowon leans down a little and smacks his thighs twice. the stunt actor – do not laugh – crawls, no, trots over with the stick swinging side to side. is it an antenna? a head attached to a long neck? he turns to jaehwa, his partner for this ‘random meeting at the park’ scenario. “don’t worry, he’s friendly.” the stunt actor – do not laugh – gallops around her like an overly eager puppy. “you can pet him if you like.” see, this would’ve been a perfectly fine line if his pet were a dog. but it’s very much not a dog. it’s a fully grown person craning its bald, green head up at jaehwa, stick held high – DO NOT LAUGH.

"lgc girls was formed after future dreams season 2 so i was part of the original lineup," she said, scanning the busy streets for the dango store. "if i remember right, we released both a korean and japanese album back then." being in a rotational group had been both thrilling and nerve-wracking. while members got a taste of debut life, they also knew the company could drop them at any time if they weren’t deemed worthy of the spot. she smiled confidently, adding, "not to brag, but if you need help with japanese, i’d be happy to practice with you. i’m fluent in both languages."
she peered over the crowded street while straining to spot the store amidst the sea of people. her height wasn’t much help and she found herself tiptoeing even in her platform sneakers. "i can’t see anything from here," she sighed, "so let’s trust the gps. we should reach the dango store soon," jaehwa said while holding up her phone to show sori the estimated arrival time on the screen.
lgcjaehwa
"let's see," jaehwa mused. she had been to japan a few times now. twice for crystallis' fanmeetings, once for promotions with lgc girls japan. that made three visits since she joined lgc. before that, there was a school trip during her first year of high school and a family vacation before she became a trainee. "so, i've been here five times. not sure if that counts as visiting often, but twice as an idol and once with lgc girls japan," she replied thoughtfully. "as for fabula, i don’t think they’re targeting the japanese market, probably more focused on the western audience." while she considered letting sori wait in line alone, the younger female wasn’t as familiar with the area and jaehwa didn’t want to risk her getting lost. "alright, let's go grab some dango then," jaehwa said with a nod, already pulling out her phone to search for the nearest shop. her fingers tapped quickly across the screen. "there’s one just a few meters away. google says it has four stars, so i’ll assume it’s good. at least we’ll have something to do while waiting for the queue here."
“ah, i think it’s my… third time? i wasn’t aware you’ve also been in lgc girls japan before, when did you participate in that?” most likely not her last time in japan, sori didn’t mind, she wanted to make time to make a list of all the things she’d like to try eating, she wasn’t aware of how truly good japanese food was before she tried actually visiting japan. she shrugs “you might be right on that one, my english is better than my japanese anyway, though i should probably find time to practice both”.
“just a few meters way? i’m surprised we weren’t able to spot it from here… but let’s go over there then! my stomach keeps making noises” she places a hand on her stomach. “four stars? let’s grab some! we can eat them while waiting in line for the takoyaki” she smiles at the other, the thought of food almost making her drool.
