The original plan for the Entity was that it would grow to massive size, looming over the entire shopping district, but Grian didn't know how to make it look good.
…The plans of the eldritch creature were thwarted by the builder's sensibilities of the very one it had originally contracted to build its body in that world! O irony!
Speaking of potentially scary villains who seem to have calmed down in the time they've been slightly abandoned by Grian, when he asked Grumbot to send him to season 10… he politely opened a new portal in the Rift, and gave a fond farewell message of "BE GOOD". A lovely peaceful ending for Christmas, alongside a delightful retrospective of the season, a far cry from the tragedy of the previous world!
I look forward to seeing what comes next!

If you're doing the fake fic title game: Just For One Day
HMMMM there’s a lot of ways you could go with this, but since I LOVE angst, I would say I’d write a fic where one or multiple killers are given one day, free from their madness and bloodlust, out of the entity’s realm to spend with their s/o from before they were taken.
They know it’s only a matter of time before they leave and forget about everything, and that the entity would likely drag them back early if they spill the beans about what happened to their s/o, but relish in it anyways, and hope they might remember some small parts of it.
OR
for all y’all entity fuckers out there, the entity spends a day physically manifested in it’s own realm as a survivor to get to know the other survivors better and how to more easily prey on them, or exacerbate their hopes and fear, but end up falling for/favoring the reader, or one of the other survivors.
But if the entity stays any longer, it’s realm will start to fall apart, so it must leave to resume it’s original position. But it starts to favor the reader or survivor, which confuses everyone, and one the reader or survivor puts all the pieces together, theyre revolted.

"Happy anniversary!!"
"Wait, what?" Grian spluttered, falling from the shulker monster he was balancing on. "Ren, what are you talking about?!"
"It's been a year, dude! A year since we finally got out of that stinky Hermitheus, finally set foot on real life solid ground once more!"
Grian struggled to parse what Ren was trying to say for just a moment longer, and then it dawned.
"We've been on this season for a year now?!"
"That's right! I can't believe no-one else seems to have remembered the date, I was hoping there would be great celebrations, far and wide! But so far, everyone I've talked to today has been as surprised as you, dude! I'll catch you later, man, I feel like I've got to talk to everyone, now!"
Grian watched blankly as Ren rocketed away.
So. It had been a year. A year since he'd woken from the long dream of the void, with visions in his head, plans from a great beyond… Then that meant, it had probably already been more than a year since he'd first met it, but…
"It's been a year since I made the Entity." A year since he'd carved out that stone form, the perfect boulder, knowing and yet not knowing what it would grow into, what it could become…
Suddenly, feelings he'd forgotten and laid aside came flooding back, the deep waves of something, the blindingly hidden memories of what he had promised and been promised, and he realised once again that he needed to restock the Entity. Did it want another upgrade, too? Or was that feeling his own, his guilt for having forgotten about it, for having needed someone else to remind him of its…
With a gasp, he knew what to do. He dropped whatever random items he was carrying into the nearest box that was empty enough, and rapidly started planning. He'd left this far too late, and only had a few hours…
~~~~~~~
The sun was setting, and several hermits were gathering in the shopping district.
"So, what do you think this is all about?" Impulse asked Pearl. "Grian hasn't put on a big event like this for his shop here before…"
"Well, it's been a while since I've observed any strange activity from the Entity," she replied, and he noticed she was wearing her fancy suit. "It doesn't look like it's changed appearance again, at least not from what I can see…"
"Maybe he finally figured out how to get his son to send customers inside it?" Cub wondered.
"What? But Grumbot's not here… is he?" Impulse asked.
"No, no. I meant the shulker."
Before the crowds could speculate any further, Grian appeared in a flash of bright red and white fireworks!
"Ow," he said, taking a mental note not to fly so close to the dispensers next time. "Welcome, everyone! Now, as I'm sure some of you will be aware, it's now been a full year since we all arrived here in this world."
"Heck yeah!" Ren cheered. "You set up a party for us in one day?"
"That's right! But, this isn't just a party for our anniversary. On this day, one year ago, I created a vessel for a very special being, known only as the Entity…"
The crowd had started to murmur at Ren's outburst, but now fell silent, as Grian continued ominously.
"This Entity has grown, over the past twelve months. It has grown stronger, wiser, and if I do say so myself, cuter!"
xBCrafted, who was lying in a tree nearby with his bow prepared as usual, glanced upwards at the strange stone monstrosity, a variety of large items protruding from its surface, six mechanical legs holding it high above the ground, green vines growing from a hole with blood slowly dripping down but never seeming to reach the ground beneath, where many shulker boxes full of all sorts of useful things were currently piled even higher than usual. He and a few others hummed in suspicion, but said nothing.
"I cannot say for how long the Entity has truly existed, indeed, perhaps it haunted the void long before what we would consider the start of time itself… But, one year ago today, I gave it the body it asked for, I brought it into this world. So, today, I have more than restocked my shop, I have filled it to overflowing, and I invite you all to join me in celebrating the Entity's first birthday!"
He stepped backwards onto a pressure plate, and several more red and white fireworks went off, accompanied by slight applause from some of the audience. Grian frowned, then sighed.
"And, to celebrate its birthday, the Entity offers a special deal for this evening only, half price for everything, or, only one stack of diamonds for however much of anything you want, whichever would be cheaper!"
The crowd cheered, and Grian stepped aside as they all flooded in, the sounds of shulker boxes being opened and closed blending nicely with the sounds of the actual live shulkers in the small cave beneath.
Boxes were emptied, items were replaced with diamonds, and a warm breeze of contentment filled the air, pouring forth a sweet scent from the Entity's opening. Grian smiled, leaning against one of the Entity's legs. All was right with the world. All hermits would be loyal customers of the Entity. Entity would provide all. All would become Entity. Just as long as he kept remembering to restock…
The Entity, like all other shops, has been claimed by the king. Taking a moment to breathe in his sculk covered N.A.R. boulder, Grian still vows not to take any part in a resistance.
However, after taking some time to develop the laboratory around the Rift, the temptation is too great. He finds a loophole in the new law against hijacking the quest system, and sets up an “adventure” for the next hermit to visit the statue. He includes Grumbot in this adventure, certain that his son will appreciate being part of the prank, and modifies both the Grumbot communication interface and the content generator to tell the next user to remove the king’s claim on the shopping district.
(Of course, compressing this request into three words can lead to misunderstanding, and now Impulse has been given the idea to remove the king’s claim to the throne entirely...)
But this Grumbot is not the one Grian knows. He is angry, perhaps more so than would be expected, that words were put in his mouth.
He is furious, and gives his “father” a clear warning: “My Grian was sorry too.”
It would seem that this Grumbot is indeed from a world where things perhaps went horribly wrong...
(Also the Entity is going to sell every colour of concrete powder and I’m looking forward to seeing what colourful thing it might grow to represent that!)
The Rift is active once more! Grumbot has returned! But it is not the Grumbot we know, rather it is one from an alternate universe, one who succeeded in making Mumbo the mayor... Grian intends to use this mysterious, superior Grumbot to generate ideas for himself and the other hermits, what could possibly go wrong?
In other news, the Not A Resistance club is going strong, Grian isn't resisting the king, he's just bending the rules to his own advantage, manipulating the quest system.
Finally, finally, we get to see the Entity again! I've missed it... It seems it's been getting a bit too heavy, leaving deep footprints in the ground. Its shulker no longer co-operates, and there is no way to get customers inside, so it is forced to drop its stock outside, even as it gains the emerald essence of the various villager-sourced products.
That sculk in Grumbot's face... it makes a good decoration, but I can't help but wonder if it might be a clue to something more ominous...
There has been a development. There can now be no doubt that the Entity is a living being.
Over the past few weeks, Grian has neglected his shop a little, given it time and space to grow, it would seem. As hermits move from the starter area to their planned mega bases, so too does the centre of commerce move from around the spawn area to a much larger location set aside as the official shopping district. And in this shop’s case, the movement is quite literal.
It appears, for now, that the Entity no longer needs the heart of the sea. Instead, red flesh resembling that of an organic heart has now grown over every internal surface, and the original opening has closed. Leaving behind a conduit at spawn, it takes on the qualities of an insect, producing honey to sell and growing six legs. Grian builds a platform for it at the new shopping district, and there it walks.
However, for the time being, it seems reluctant to receive customers into its new form. It stands tall, no doorway in sight. Grian brought it a live shulker to assist it in vertically abducting people, but despite the effort he went to, it just wasn’t quite possible. For now, items for sale hang below the Entity.
But there’s something familiar about those legs, isn’t there? Grian pointed it out himself, how similar they are in colour and texture to the legs of the spider walkers at Ren and Doc’s base last season. But he also pointed out one key distinction, that these legs are not the same shape, they are instead those of an insect. Spiders hunt insects. Ren and Doc’s spiders last season turned out to be designs for an anti-virus system, designed to thwart the threat of the Nothing virus. The virus that was represented by warped plants and purple crystals. The Rift is purple, and warped plants are still visible all around Grian’s starter house, and he has said that he plans to use them at the mega base as well... We seem to be gaining evidence of a connection here, wouldn’t you say? But still, it’s too early to tell. Watch and wait, that’s all we can do. Watch and wait and speculate...
Grian mentioned, just briefly, that he hopes to add some items to sell from the raid farm ship to the Entity. I hope it doesn’t take any vital part of the ship, or any dangerous part of the storm...
He also has not yet made many plans for the interior of the Rock, other than to open a tunnel connecting it to the Rift, of course. And speaking of the Rift, I would like to bring up one point. He said when he opened it that it was not where he planned to make his nether portal, and at that I assumed that he meant there would be little to no connection between the two, but that is not necessarily the case, is it? The portal, just like all the other floating rocks that are beginning to appear, is suspended in mid-air, surely due to the Rift’s effects...
That being said, there is something else. New music has been made for this story, mysterious but happy music. Within the song there is a brief familiar moment, a few notes similar to the music from season 7. So in a sense, it is a nostalgic tune, perhaps this is fitting for the building up of a base designed to emulate many different historical styles? Grian did seem to imply that this music is focused on that higher part of the base, however. Perhaps the Rift itself, and the warped plants he may be planning to cover the ground with, shall have a more sinister theme to accompany them? But we must continue to watch and wait, for now.
But still, what would that imply? The Rift is clearly some kind of danger, but the base Grian is planning to build over it... Of course. The base will be beautiful. No harm can come from a structure he has full creative control over! But what effects will the Rift have on it, on him? And how does the Entity come into play in all of this? It will have to move on over to the new shopping district at some point too, won’t it?
The Rock, the mega base, is not the Entity, though it is similar. It will have many themes, styles from various points in history, all connected by vines across small islands floating high into the sky. From what we see built today, the first section is a mixture of two different historical styles, and the first floating island, the nether portal, bears striking resemblance to a shattered crescent moon.
Hmm... Different parts of history connected, built one at a time, such that the style of the base... “Evolves” over time? (Probably not actually a reference, but you never know.)
The oxidised copper dome of the structure ages in an instant, the surface seemingly damaged by patches of Warped materials...
Mumbo Jumbo has returned! He did not appear to have come from the Rift, and the image of his face is no longer there... Hold on. The back of his head is once again styled to resemble Grian’s, as it was in the days when he had eaten his soul... But that state of affairs surely reverted between seasons, as all such massive changes must, did it not? And, as Grian points out twice, his name is now Mumbo, not Mumbo Jumbo. ...Perhaps a change in presentation is perfectly innocent, he has been away for quite some time! And, as one of Grian’s best friends, he has chosen to build his mega base as close as possible! Which just so happens to be directly over the Rift. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
It could have been an ordinary ending to an episode, but Grian’s wings broke. He stumbled down the one hole in his bridge, falling so far down to his beacon that he was sure he would die. But he survived, to his great surprise and shock. We could hear a strange sound from the Rift, as he turned to face it. He didn’t say it, but it was clear what he had realised: it saved him. The Rift chose to keep Grian alive. It is fair to infer that strange things are coming...
But the strangest part yet of what we have watched today, may or may not be relevant. To end his odd outro, Grian ate a cookie. An Elven Surprise, created by Scar, the surprise being a brief blindness effect. But in the darkness, Scar’s voice echoes, strange references to a dreamlike world of memories, past lives...
Earlier, Scar also featured, along with Mumbo, in what we presumed to be an unrelated bit. What strange things he said, affecting that Grian’s life somehow.
Scar is also someone who has pointed out how Mumbo’s name is now changed. It could just be that the three are close friends so it makes sense that these two are the first to notice. And yet, I cannot help but suspect... Scar has subtly (or not so subtly) emphasised his strange bed, many times. The bed made of Warped materials. At first I assumed the twisting vines around his base were for elven decoration, but now I wonder if his strange elven magic might somehow be connected to all this. It was probably in the void between seasons that his transformation took place, after all, and that was presumably also where the Entity first contacted Grian... I had begun to worry that the Warped plants might be spreading out from Grian’s starter house towards Scar’s, but equally it could somehow be the other way...?
(...I know. There are amethyst crystals in Scar’s tree, too. But it can’t be the Nothing. It just can’t be. It is something different, something new. It has to be. I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with that bunch of troublemaking, angst-or-whatever-eating Watchers, either. But I might be wrong.)
I could not help but notice, the Warped plants spreading across Grian’s starter area, seemingly replacing some of his crops... The twisting vine ladder was said to be part of the story, wasn’t it...?
The Rock is born. Appearance-wise, it does indeed resemble a much larger, somewhat more complex version of the Entity boulder. And of course, it resides just above the Rift. A flat panel on one side draws the eye, Grian plans to build an additional structure there.
He “can’t afford to die” inside the Rock. Naturally, as an oddly shaped unlit space, it is highly dangerous, and would be very inconveniently difficult to retrieve lost items from, yet I cannot help but wonder if that line was a hint to something more sinister...
More hints of future plans. There will be floating islands, maybe other floating things. Perhaps the Rift’s influence will gradually affect gravity in the area, and perhaps other fundamental forces of reality? Or perhaps the very earth itself will recoil from whatever begins to seep through... The mental image of islands in the sky is certainly intriguing, in this case. And of course, he mentioned that the floor might be cyan. Specifically, the cyan of the Warped forest. There is now no doubt whatsoever that those blocks are significant somehow to the Entity, the Rift, the Rock and whatever turns out to be coming. (But are they the same as the alien plants that PearlescentMoon has been collecting? We must watch and wait and see.)
And in the depths of the Rift, there is a face visible, of one who has been absent for some time, one of Grian’s closest friends... Could this be how Mumbo Jumbo returns to the world of Hermitcraft? Or is it something else? Is it really Mumbo’s presence, or an illusion? Is the Rift trying to tempt Grian, to get him to step just a little too close? Perhaps it is better that he appeared not to notice it...
We have not seen a change in the Entity today, that is, not in the boulder at spawn. Now there is a development far more interesting to observe. The one under its influence has chosen a location for the mysterious Rock, which we can speculate to likely be some larger version of the Entity, we still do not know if this Rock will be a separate thing entirely, but we do know that both it and the Entity will exist in different locations, will this be two distinct yet related beings, or will it be the one Entity’s influence spreading over a wider area? It seems we still must watch and wait and see...
But today’s development brings something new and fascinating to the equation. Grian has opened a Rift, a weak point between worlds, which will feed energy to the Rock. This Rift is already influencing the area around it, perhaps to make room for the Rock? Perhaps the Entity as we see it now is but a portion of a larger whole, the small part of this being that was able to reach Grian while the rest is stuck elsewhere... And now he has opened a Rift, perhaps leading to where the Entity came from? Perhaps the Rock will be stranger and more powerful, as well as larger than the boulder shop, the Entity taking form as more and more of it seeps through from the other world... Or what if the Entity and the Rock are not the same being, what difference does that make? Either way, it is a strange thing, reaching out, asking Grian to bring it into the world, and then to open a portal that more may come through...
Haha, it is likely a meaningless coincidence that the opening of the Rift coincided with Tango’s accidental release of three withers in the nether... isn’t it? After all, the Rift is decidedly not where Grian will have his nether portal. Wherever the Entity or whatever it’s called comes from, it isn’t the nether. I imagine it isn’t the End, either. “A weak point between worlds.” I wonder what world or worlds it leads to...
Hmm... “wibbly wobbly timey wimey”? Obviously a reference, but could it also be a clue? For all the ominous threat this Rift presents, could this also indicate... time travel? Perhaps the question is not only one of where the Rift leads, but also when?
The Entity is not a Watcher. The Watchers are not responsible for the Entity. Not as far as they know, and certainly not directly. The one studying it, the one it chose... he joined the Watchers, once. He has many Watchers now. Does the Entity simply wish to be Watched? It is mysterious, but is it hiding to hide, or hiding to be found? We shall see... Or perhaps it will hide its secrets from us, never giving a clear answer...
So... We have a glimpse of a potential future, a whisper of a perhaps plan...
The Entity shall remain as a shop, growing, gathering, changing, no matter where it may have to travel.
But there may be another... Rock... Another thing, larger than the Entity perhaps, but would that make it more powerful? Where does this all lead?
It all seems so vague, we must watch and wait and see...
The Entity stole the water wheel from Grian's house - items indicating what it sells do not naturally generate or grow on it, it mysteriously takes them from the surroundings.
Perhaps its methods of obtaining new parts will change over the course of the season, or perhaps... The tree that seemed to grow from nothing on the side of the boulder, a mix of various wood types, perhaps the Entity sneakily stole some of the many saplings available nearby, fusing them together and then allowing the resulting plant to grow.
But now this living boulder grows bolder, openly snatching three quarters of an expensive copper-and-lodestone water wheel straight from the house of the one studying it, the one it has chosen to influence...
From the start of the season, the Entity took over, told Grian it didn't want to be a house. Even before its body was created, it had this influence over him...
(He also said that the twisting vine in his house fits the theme of his story of someone studying the Entity, and since Pearl's builds include plants from the warped forest with her theme of investigating aliens, could this mean they might be planning on a connected storyline somehow? Also, I haven't noticed any amethyst crystals nearby but the twisting vines are still reminding me of the Nothing from Ren's cliffhanger last season. Even if that doesn't carry over, given that the Sculk is coming most likely later this season, I can't help but wonder, creepy, teal, alien, sci-fi/mystery themes...)
So it seems that thankfully the Entity wasn't alive yet when Pearl put fish on it, but now it is and has grown its first addition, a tree indicating logs for sale! It also demands two extra hearts so that its pulse can be heard clearly all throughout the shop...
