June Monthly Music: Half Way Through Edition

Music released before June 13th because WOW this month is stacked and this post is already this big this early!

Kaytranada came out with a new album--"Wasted Words (ft Thundercat)" has hilarious lyrics, "Weird (ft Durand Bernarr)" scratches an itch if you miss Azealia's vocalizations but can't listen to her for obv reasons, "Snap My Fingers (ft Pinkpantheress)" is bouncy and sweet, and "Still (ft Charlotte Day Wilson)" is a pleasant ache of a song. Not a groundbreaking album but reliable and solid.

"Drip Sweat" is my fave off that album, which is why it gets its own line. Very hypnotic, like being tugged into a dark corner at the club for some privacy.

After years away, Foster the People are back with a whole entire new sound. "Lost in Space" is... confusing at first but it kinda makes me think of Katamari Damacy... so I like it. I do not know if it's good, I am prejudiced. (Supermodel was one of my fave albums of all time.)

If you enjoy music from The Sims, yes, the game, give "Open World" by Toconoma a shot. A bit funkier, less perfect for constant looping but it's a purely instrumental song capable of invoking the same joy as booting up the game and hearing creation mode.

NGL, the singles were bangers, but I kinda feel... underwhelmed by the Charli XCX album (didn't think it was bad, just overhyped) but of the new tracks I really dug "Sympathy is a Knife," "Talk Talk," and "365." Bonus tracks are fun tho, "Springbreakers" is my fave.

Raveena's collab wiith JPEGMAFIA, "Junebug," is a sprawling river of champagne through a land of glistening sands and bubbling clouds.

"New Way Out" by Poppy is for those of you who want a song that feels like a re-imagining of Evanescence's "Going Under" by BMTH.

"Balloon in Love" by Sunmi is... cute. I love Sunmi but it's just fine. Worth a try.

"I Am the King" Fat Dog. This track FEELS like an interlude but in a way that makes you feel transient as well. Time is escaping, this song is escaping, you are escaping.

Peggy Gou released her first album and while none of it is as classic as her earlier track, "Starry Night," I do think if you like groovy dance music, "1+1=1," "All that (ft Villano Antillano), and "I Believe in Love Again" are worth checking out!

BREE RUNWAY IS BACK! "JUST LIKE THAT" IS WAY TOO SHORT BUT IF YOU LIKE MISSY ELLIOT, CHECK OUT THIS ELECTRIFYING TRACK.

"She a Wolf" Wayv. Fuck SM but this track does kinda go off. This is a song that would be fun as hell in an arena setting.

Glass Animal's "A Tear in Space" is a massive improvement over the lead single for their upcoming album. Still a step below their older stuff but if you were scared off from the last single, maybe give the a second chance.

Jumu'ah Khuthbah: 17 March 2023

This week's mirror into one's qalb (spiritual heart) were, and Alhamdulillah for this palpable consciousness made even more real because of our Tariqa (spiritual school)... Bismillah...

#1. Shaykh Nishaat placed a magnifying glass to my fear that I may have unwittingly become spiritually arrogant. Where we shape everything into a spiritual experience. We have to be wary of our nafs (ego) that uses every little thing as a sign of advancement.

Allah should be the focus when we experience the good or bad happenings in life. All outer confirmation should be to rely on Allah. As for our inner confirmations, we have to be grateful for the opportunity to see our ills through our spiritual mentors.

#2. What we should aspire for in place of spiritual arrogance is the even more tricky quality of spiritual humility! By remembering these key points:

i. We should remain in awe at everything: Allah, "His" attributes, and "His" creations. Keeping awe externally diminishes self-awe!

ii. We must believe ourselves to be spiritually lowly compared to everyone else, to avoid self-awe! Never should we be content with our level of worship. We must humble ourselves to see the state of our servitude towards Allah, yet heeding "His" commands and striving for more blessings.

iii. We must believe that Allah will, at some point, elevate us spiritually. This is because of the belief that real change in us begins inwardly and becomes manifest outwardly in our actions, as a natural reflex of becoming humble servants, Insha'Allah!

#3. Shaykh Nishaat echoed Dr Abou El Fadl's hikmah (wisdom) - as they both reflected Shaykh Abdul Qadir Geylani's immense wisdom when he said that Allah should be the focus when good or bad happens to us.

Dr Abu El Fadl goes further to describe my reality where Allah has gratefully taken me, to a place of seeing the fortune in my "disability", conventionally seen as misfortune. I, subsequently enjoy a closer relationship with Allah, Subhana'Allah, leaving me in puddles of gratitude!

#4. Our Tariqa's new book project is on Asma ul-Husna (The Beautiful Names of Allah). Subhana'Allah that our work never ceases! Shaykh Taner implored us to identify each Name in three outer and three inner signs.

This is because our job is to observe Allah in our living and learning; to remove "Him" as a part-time reality which is naturally assumed in us, into a full-time one! Shaykh Taner implored that we must find out in ourselves what is and what is not Allah. When we quit being ourselves, we enact Allah. As these Khuthbah that miraculously come together in the enth hour!

#5. In our Learning circle, we discussed the role of Rabita (heart connection) as a component of our inner circuitry and a method of our soul to dynamically link to Allah's essence. For Allah has blown "His" essence into our inner circuitry. When we're in hal (a temporary state of consciousness), it acts as a small connection or temporary station to Allah.

As mureeds (committed seekers), a valve is opened in our hearts in our respective moments of ba'yah (an oath of allegiance to a leader). Here, Shaykh Nishaat explained that the bond with the respective Shaykh or Shaykha is the medium with which the mureed will achieve contact with Allah - as expounded earliest by Shaykh Abdul Qadir Geylani. Here, Raeesa made a colourful analogy of Rabita as a walky-talky and the purification achieved through Zikr in our daily assignments and Wird, is essentially clearing our static sound.

Here, your Rehbir Abbu shared how Rabita eventually becomes a constant feature of our lives. Shaykh Nishaat added that is because we have to be in surrender in every moment of our lives, which is enacting Islam. In our ongoing struggles, we need Rabita to silence our nafs (egos). Through our work, we know whether we have surrendered in life that is if we are brought to sabr (patience) and salaam (peace). The practice of self-involvement makes the illusory nature of our nafs (egos), the veil between us and Allah!

Help them, lift them up, build them up, but don’t add them to your ship. Not to look down on them in anyway, I’m just exceptionally intimidating and I have to accept that. I met another woman (at a now renounced gym) who seemed so secure and her vibe was so dope. But I guess it wasn’t meant to be. All good. Having four amazing stellar world altering secure real talk women in my life and in my age range and in my fun range. That is an abundance of blessings.

Counting new blessings part II:

So this mayn... treats me like I’m the dream girl of dream girls, and he’s got a package that made me stick around long enough to recognize that. It’s refreshing.

Ahhh, and we vibed for a while on science and he told me about reduced complexity... ?absolutely simplicity... ?... ok I can’t remember but it supported my theory about evolution and creative intent and design in creation. He wants to change careers and be a science teacher :) and I just adore that to the enths.

Counting new blessings part III:

So the enemy side was blowing up each other’s phones yesterday all in a huff over my developing friendship. The part that matters to me? My phone didn’t get hit with a SINGLE call or text from pettyville!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! You know whah? giving people a legal smack down is a beautiful thing. All the hassle of lawyers and judges and professional attire and zoom lighting, over people being childish, to get them to pretend they’re grown ups, it was so worth it. I will never let people push me around when there’s a legal option i can take, never again. My phone said zzzzZZZZzzz all night while they were up drowning in that haaaaterrrrraaaade. Bahahahaaaaaa blessingssss

Jumu'ah Khuthbah: 16 September 2022

This week included some timely inner and outer insights, even of the electromagnetic kind 😅 With a bismillah, onward we go...

#1. Our outer world is constituted by Nature but how often do we listen and think about these creations, hearkened Shaykh Nishaat..?

Allah created everything in a precise and balanced way for us human beings, in our functionality. However, are we aware of its details and appreciative of it..? We must get to know Allah when we engage outer creations. We should be grateful with awareness that it was all created for us, as the highest of the high. However due to our nafs, we can also be lowest of the low.

Through reflection we ought to become aware of what is in the horizon and in ourselves. It is all about the science of the signs that are seen with our eyes and felt with our hearts.

#2. The things we see every single day was created for us as Allah's representatives / Khalifatullah (the Vicegerant to Allah on earth). The Angels asked why Allah would place a being that will cause bloodshed and mayhem as a representative when they simply sanctify Allah. We should thus be representing Allah in all our actions.

#3. It was reflected that being a Khalifa creates a huge responsibility which can be best managed when taken one moment at a time. Each of us have an understanding of our reality, which is why I had to make the difficult decision of parting from my past, which I will talk about today.

Despite our individual realities, it was added that when we pray it isn't just for ourselves but the whole world. We have a limited time on this earth and we don't see the bigger picture. As your Ammu has extended the gift of Positivity Prayers to a count of 101+, because she can and for a whole bunch of people that grows each day 😅 The latest being your Abbu who is her legs, and wallet enabling our sustenance because of Allah's grace! We should never remain the same in a life of growth, and Alhamdulillah that we feel more growth with our tariqa's learnings. Being insaane i-kamil (the complete person with pure consciousness) gives us what is needed in the present moment echoed Shaykh Nishaat. Worrying about the past as the future is futile, because we are here for learning in the present moment. We are experiencing here with gratitude!

#4. In the enth hour, I was able to see the trapping of the nafs and counter it! Subhana'Allah, all by relinquishing its control on my present and future. It's a sentiment that I've been wrestling with, should I seek to engage people in my past, those who left a murky residue..? Is sentimental attachment necessary..?

Instead I chose to part with them, by letting go and letting God, in the present and future. Allowing the other to be, in accordance to Allah's will. Wthout their present selves reminding me of the memory of a shared past, and with faith that Allah will eventually clarify our past insha'Allah - if needed of course. The result being a hurt nafs but a pleased ruh, Alhamdulillah.

#5. When in dire situations as being an accident survivor, one is made to attune to their bodies needs. For me that was Rife electromagnetic therapy, which I persevered in with skepticism into being a believer!

When I couldn't access it, again Subhana'Allah, I was dramatically feeling the pinch of its absence! Subsequently, I take it far more seriously with its own WhatsApp page that I share with your Abbu, with the subject-line and its own profile photo:

Jumu'ah Khuthbah: 10 July 2022

As usual my enth hour inspirations solidify before Jumu'ah, Subhana'Allah and Ya Shakur! Bismillah...

#1. Again, Shaykh Nishaat kicked off the flow of inspiration with the simple realised statement of how we must be grateful for everything we have and that we don't have. The fact is that I have personally, physically and materially lost much but gained equally in spirituality through the losses. I am consciously and unconsciously living with the (open) secret in my awareness of it.

#2. He continued that in our interactions with the manifestations in the world we are exposed to Al-Zahir (The Manifest), but we have to consider the inner meaning too through Al-Batin (The Immanent).

Here Shaykh Taner conveyed a "Tanerism" where he said Islam is the outer and Iman is the inner. Our qalb or spiritual heart has to approve our worldly actions.

Mystically comprehended and coveyed by Shaykh Nishaat, was something that is not easy to explain which is the awareness of Al-Akhir (The Infinite Last One). We must establish a connection to Allah as Khalifatullah (Vicegerants of Allah) where we are aware when we speak, listen and think so that our nafs is not in our everyday transactions.

#3. Was a simple truth echoed by Shaykh Nishaat saying that we have no option but to purify ourselves. We are not alone in our journey, because Allah is closer than our jugular veins. Again mirroring that "Tanerism"!

A compelling write-up aptly explained:

There are actually four jugular veins, one internal and one external, on both right and left sides of the neck. These veins carry deoxygenated blood from the brain towards the heart...

...Since they are quite large and located in the neck, jugular veins are vulnerable to attack: severing them can cause death due to rapid loss of blood. First, the Quran may be implying that one should trust in God's absolute power; even at the most vulnerable point in your body, God is there to protect you...

...Thus, the Quranic verse may also be implying that you will need food, water, medicine, and other material things to sustain life, but faith is also critically important...

#4. Shaykh Taner relayed that when we contemplate on Creation, we get closer to Allah because life has no meaning without guidance. When we look at space and contemplate on Creation, we have to think on our own terms. The Earth therefore represents humility as a habitat for love.

The Universe is 5 billion years old and our existence is just a speck in it. If something is moving, something is moving it - that force or power is what we call Allah. It is not you and me but Allah who is the whole Universe!

#5. In a reflection about the different levels of nafs and meaning experienced by man, which is played out in our respective lives. Shaykh Nishaat here joked about there being different grades of acquiring knowledge as stupidity!

Similarly, the Quran and Seerah can be comprehended in a literalist, restricted way and others can comprehend them in an expansive and broad way - where the meanings are infinite and where the meanings grow on you. The latter was experienced across 9 years of crafting Shaykh Taner's English translation of the Quran.

However, all of this represents a reality where we're not at one level in our spiritual growth as we're constantly evolving, even within a level. Because our understanding on how we see things is expanding, just as the Universe itself!

This ends our serendipitous week's learning which I have been blessed with in connecting the dots, as my view of a constellation in the Universe.
