Prompt 12 - Sliver

Remus loved the woods behind James and Lily’s house. A developer had offered James’s parents a substantial amount of money for them, but thankfully they had declined, preferring the wildlife that called the woods home to a bunch of nosy humans.

As soon as the treetops covered them, Remus let out a long breath as the healing powers Effie Potter swore were real, washed over him. He’d come here a lot after his mum had died and when Lyall had become too much for him to deal with. Finding peace in quiet goings-on in the trees. For an entire summer, he’d tracked a herd of deer and round the largest rabbit warren he’d ever seen, almost breaking his ankle when his foot slipped into one.

Right now the woods were quiet, apart from the odd calls of birds high above. A sliver of the dying sunlight broke through the canopy, coming to rest on a fallen tree trunk. Remus had spent many an afternoon sitting on that very trunk, reading his book or just observing. It was the most magical spot in the whole mini-forest. He pulled Sirius over to it and helped him perch on the mossy top. 

“This is my favourite place in the world,” He told him and watched as Sirius took it all in again with fresh eyes.

“It’s beautiful,” He whispered, as though afraid he’d break a spell or something. Remus hopped up beside him and Sirius automatically moved into him, his head resting against Remus’s shoulder, their thighs pressed up against each other. Remus wrapped his arm around Sirius, and they sat, enjoying the nature around them in comfortable silence.

Such a sweet and refreshing question, citizen!

Let's see... Unlike what some might think, I prefer simple flowers, like the ones that grow in the fields and trees around my house in Blérancourt. I must admit I have a soft spot for poppies. I believe this is why I knowingly altered Titus Livius' story and directed my adolescent ire towards those poor ferns instead.

There aren't many blue flowers, I think. (My favorite color is blue. I used to like red too before... before I see too much of it, let's say. It's still beautiful in flowers though. Flowers are pure and innocent...) There's the cornflower though. In the fields between Varennes and Valmy the blue cornflowers and the red poppies bloom with the white chamomile:

Isn't it poignantly beautiful? Sublime, even. I must say, these meadows have been sufficiently watered with blood for many centuries to come. May they humbly accept simple rainwater from now on.

OOC note: I swear this was going to be simple and normal... but of course it led to researching the flowers that grow in Aisne, and reflecting on the Livy anecdote and why he might have used ferns instead even though poppies are in bloom then (were there none? or was it a choice?), and ended with melancholic ramblings on the bleuet (cornflower), which is the equivalent in France to the poppy in the Commonwealth, because I found this beautiful picture on this page, and saw what region this page was about, l'Argonne i.e. these flowers grow right in the region where so many died during so many wars... The symbolism was too powerful - flowers, dead soldiers, La Marseillaise, Saint-Just just took over the keyboard. He had to make it sad again. He can't help it.

ETA: So fate played a very funny trick on me. It turns out that the flowers that grow around his house... are roses. And it is SO like Saint-Just to hide it behind "oh you know, just simple flowers growing around my house" and not say the truth except I swear I wasn't doing that this time, because I didn't check the pictures of his house in a long time. I was just picturing field and trees in general, you know, until @aedesluminis points me to that post. And this is SO FUNNY because roses ARE actually MY favorite flower, I, the real breathing living person behind this RP blog. But I don't think they would be Saint-Just. They might seem too aristocratic to him (though there are wild roses - that's what they originally were). All of this is so funny to me right now... this really feels like fate played a trick on me. Or like he does possess me after all. Who knows.

i impromptly wrote this while listening to Membasuh, one of my fave song (please listen to it i'm begging you 🔪)

Sembari mata memandang langit yang memancarkan gradasi biru dan jingga, angin sore menghembuskan nafasnya menuju insan yang tengah bersandar di samping pohon, jauh dari pedesaan tempat ia tinggal.

Pria tersebut memejamkan matanya sejenak, menikmati momen yang sedang ia rasakan saat ini. Angin mengelus rambut hitamnya dengan manja. beberapa burung tengah berdansa bersama awan. momen ini tidak akan hadir di dunia untuk selamanya. keindahan dalam kesederhanaan yang tuhan ciptakan seharusnya diberikan kepada orang yang lebih pantas daripada bajingan seperti dia.

Seorang bajingan yang tidak mampu mensyukuri sebuah nikmat sekecil kehidupan. seorang bajingan yang ingin menemui tuhannya tanpa takdir bercampur tangan. ia ingin melakukan itu semua karena rasa muak yang menimbun dan membebani kepalanya. cukup pesat dan cukup ramai, membuat seseorang seperti nabi bisa menggila.

Namun disinilah ia sekarang, membiarkan raganya seakan menyatu dengan ibu pertiwi. oh rasanya ingin sekali memeluk semua rerumputan ini, rerumputan yang menyadari pikirannya yang ternodai tanpa iman.

Ia menemukan makna hidupnya disini, bersyukur karena tuhan masih memaafkannya.

So I'm aware that literally nobody asked or even cares. But this is my blog so I'm gonna post anyway. So I've been forced to not work these past two weeks thanks to some corporate bullshit fuckery. Not gonna go into that, but I've been sitting at home for almost 2 weeks now. Last week I didn't do much except get random things packed up so it's not such a stress when we actually move, since I expected them to call me any day. This week I accepted that I've been ghost fired, or they want me to quit. Either way I finally started doing things again. Working out in the traditional way isn't appealing to me right now so I've been doing Hatha yoga. Didn't really think it would be much of a workout, just slower than usual. Nah it's a workout, 100%. Holding poses, keeping my breathing in line, maintaining balance. And then today I took my doggo on a walk. We went to a local trail and I just started walking. Ended up doing the entire loop, 2 miles. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so me, my husband, and the dog will be at my sister's house most of the day, but Friday I think we'll go back and do the trail in reverse. Being outside with Scout and getting my body moving is nice.

Lena losing her patience and furiously berating Gwen for potentially endangering the staff members of the OAIR is quite literally the opposite of how Elias ran the Archives.

Elias used the Archival staff—as well as his Archivist—as pawns that can be readily replaced as needed. His patron offered them minimal protections at best (the Archivist’s privileges notwithstanding), and even then, he would never actually intervene to save any of them if they were in danger, much less take precautions to protect them at their headquarters. They are used as bait, as sacrifices, as currency, as objects. The listener knows, eventually, how easily he could discard them if his plans called for it.

But Lena. This episode showed us that Lena keeps her entire organization running through keeping her subordinates hidden, safe, and unnoticed by the Externals. It’s quite clear through her conversation with Gwen that such a safety risk has never happened before.

As far as we know, Lena has successfully kept all of her employees alive, watched them come and go, bemoaned the turnover rate, and then got them to look the other way while they documented and dutifully filed the horrors.

But most impressive of all, she’s kept her real work hidden from her subordinates, and her subordinates hidden from her real work—a feat Elias had no interest or desire to accomplish.
