April's Monthly Music :3

I try not to recommend the same artists but Snow Stripper's "So What If I'm a Freak" really feels like a triumphant output. This song feels like watching strobe lights glint off the edge of a knife. Entrancing EDM. Sexy and threatening.

"Alter Ego" Doechii, JT. A club banger. Work your knees and waist and then swing at the girl next to you to assert dominance.

"Somewhere Near Marseilles (Sci Fi Edit)" Utada Hikaru. Despite being a remix, it feels more raw and vulnerable than the original! If you were scared off by the OG's 12 minute run time, this is is an easy and breezy 4 minutes. She has released a full anniversary album full of many of her songs reimagined, remastered, remixed! There is a new song "Electricity" but I think SNM is more interesting.

"Nightmare" and "Killjoy !" Nia Archives. Nia just released a whole album and I've talked about the lead singles before. There is a rawness from an artist who has only begun to ascend to greatness but Nia's twist on drum and bass and jungle can't be missed. She's destined for great things.

"Bye Bye" Ayumi Hamasaki. I don't think this is her best output but I just remembered she exists and it's incredible she's going and her sound is still so... her? Energetic Jpop that isn't very cutesy.

"Gaucho" Alex Anwandter. Chilean dance music with a flair for the sensual and a rhythm that pulses up and down your body. A nostalgic, familiar sound innovated into an entirely new beast.

"Impossible" Riize. Listen... I'd rather die than promote a new gen SM group and yet... Shinee girls... listen to this. Vibrant EDM. Kpop... isn't a lost cause? Maybe.

"L.A.M.N" Crossfaith. More Japanese metalcore from me. Lyrics are full English, so if you wanna thrash AND sing along... you need not speak Japanese. High velocity screaming.

If you want the Japanese language music back in the Japanese music, give "Endroll" by Raon. This song is somewhere between Yoasobi and Queen Bee.

From what I can tell, the event had a Q&A corner, a quiz section, a game section (rock, paper, scissors), a mini live, a meat taste/smell challenge and a photo session with Keiko. However, I've seen at least one person on Twitter who got to take an exclusive "couple" polaroid with Keiko. I think this might have been one of the prizes for winning the quiz but I could be wrong? Kipperlilly, finally getting the chance to be special and be important, and all of her party members are going to be special too! And then - and then Lucy doesn't come back. The ending that she seized and believed in, and now Lucy's name isn't anywhere in it.

Plus the themes of the song of being hunted/doing what you need to survive. And the idea of having to survive all this rage and anger to get to a gentler world (dragging her into a redemption arc kicking and screaming).

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I think that she really enjoys reading mystery/thriller novels, in particular shin honkaku novels. This is - to be perfectly clear - one of my biggest projections yet, since this is in fact a genre I greatly enjoy.

But I do think it works. Like. It's about those damn Riz parallels. Riz engages in real detective work - which does have it's AHA moments, but is mainly comprised of boring labor and persistence. And the answers aren't always satisfying. Sometimes a crime happens in a boring way for a boring reason.

But in a novel, it's all part of a narrative. You and the author have an agreement with one another - you will put in all the work to read this and try and solve the mystery, with the understanding that the solution will be satisfying enough to make it all worth while. The author is a magician who is forced to reveal their secrets by the end.

I think particularly that she should read Confessions by Kanae Minato - which admittedly isn't a proper shin honkaku, since it's much more of a thriller then a mystery. Mainly because the plot deals with what happens when teenagers commit murder, how society should respond, and how revenge can have a ripple effect.

Also, while I'm here: alongside Confessions, I highly recommend The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino and The Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada.

Veil - a more than friends, less than lovers relationship told through vignettes between a blind runaway and an officer. suppose to release this year, but no specifics yet.

Otonari Complex - childhood friends between a tomboy girl and a crossdressing guy in college. the girl slowly realizes her feelings for her friend who has always protected and been there for her

I Want to End this Love Game - a several year long game between stubborn childhood friends, the first one to get embarrassed when the other tells them “I love you” loses.

Laughing Under the Clouds - i watched the anime back in high school. in the tokyopop release decided to actually romanize the family name (kumo - 雲) on stuff like the back of Tenka’s haori and it’s sooo distractingly ugly. i’m going to read it digitally before buying

Steel of the Celestial Shadows - i read some chapters for vol 1 years ago, it’s the same author as Kasane. the rest of vol 1 was translated last year and i’m sorta lost on what’s going on. i want to read vol 2 digitally before making a decision. the artwork and covers look really good

Mars Red - currently reading this and the artist is the same as Laughing Under the Clouds. the volumes look nice and i like the artwork a lot but idk if i like it enough to buy it

One More Step, Come Stand by My Side - really nice artwork and has some pretty interesting stories (one-shot collection). again, idk if i like it enough to buy it rn

Twisted Wonderland - i played the game, i like the artwork, and the MC for this arc being a guy doing kendo is interesting. i haven’t read it digitally yet and that’s mainly whats holding me back

Endroll Back - scanlations never completed past mid-vol 2. there isn’t a digital release, but the physical actually has the dust cover. i don’t actually want to own it, i just want to know what happens

as for the V/S side of things? i made some very slight progress on the CH3 postgame and got a Last Wish (ENCORE 15+) S+ sightread, a flag on grodecoherence (FINALE 14), and a sightread SS on MARENOL (FINALE 0)!!!

When I'm feeling down, I am vigilant to find fault in others, because it makes me feel like I have something over them. A stupid act of desperation.

The time limit is approaching. I am not doing well. What does it mean to give up? I want to run myself to death.

Could I survive losing all of my family and friends? Should I prepare myself for it? It'll slowly happen at this pace. Was I wrong about things all those years ago? Maybe I should quicken the pace.

I can't open up to anyone. Noone will understand, and everyone will think they understand. Hell, some people probably think they understand already without me saying anything. Maybe the easiest way to be happy is to presume you understand about unhappiness you've never felt.

I wanted to understand my emotions. It might be too late, because now all I ever feel is anger and frustration. Base, useless, devastating emotions.

Some girl I used to know followed me on Strava the other day. Simply because she connected her account and auto followed all of her contacts. And I held onto that for the whole day. Pathetic.

Do I feel good when I beat myself up like this? Honestly it's a little cathartic but I'm not sure if it's healthy. I spend so much time thinking about the past, it fills every undistracted moment of my life. Will it ever stop?

So dramatic for someone who has lived such an objectively easy life. I don't really believe that, more just unsure. But everyone else would surely mock me for thinking I have such insane struggles in my circumstances. So I can't open up. They'll think I'm even more pathetic than they already do. A good way to get some one time pity and then having them slowly drift off. A bad way to quicken the pace.

Maybe I just need to get better at slapping on a smile and enthusiasm, so that it doesn't take so much effort every time. Just get good at it so it doesn't take all my energy, so I don't dread it every time. Just... become an automatic liar. Perfect.

I'm not looking forward to going to Japan soon. I'm worried my shell will break over those 2 weeks. Maybe I'm even more worried that it won't. Maybe I will just be boring because I'm getting tired having to put on enthusiasm all the time. Perfect.

My legs hurt from running today. Good. I wonder if how I feel right now is accurate. If I look back on this post it will probably read pretty terribly. Have I made no progress? Perfect timing to be depressed again for the holiday season. Last time I showed up one time and they thought I was fine. Because I guess I'm good at faking enthusiasm. Fuck you.

If I think rationally about it, it's my fault. It's hard to tell when someone's depressed, and it's even harder when I've been putting on masks for my whole life. But I can't tell them either. Probably the worst cases of depression are the ones where they have noone to tell. Because they can't trust anybody to care enough. I'm doing fine everyone.

God and I hate it even more because I become so self absorbed. Making me lose one of the few things I prided myself on: empathy and thinking of others. And I kept that pride even though it became unjustified. It hurts.

Maybe I can try to think of others in this post. Harley decided she wants to move back home, because of RTO. I wonder how she feels about that. I wonder if I chose that just because it's semi relevant to me. My dad might also be kinda depressed, I'm kinda worried. Probably partly due to me.

God, I can't think of much when I try to remember caring about others recently. You don't just feel worse, you become worse. Please let me care for others again. I am an asshole. I'm not willing to sacrifice myself to help others. I find something in them to condemn and justify this. Nobody helped Jerry, and everyone sure loves beating down on him.

Thoughts: Finally got all of my physical copies of the album. I gotta say, this live session is pretty neat. The production value is top-notch. Avex really invested a lot of money to rent this gorgeous Amazon studio with a professional filming crew and OMG, the sun shining into the run honestly provides the most perfect lighting. I didn’t expect the session to be so candid. They even included a bunch of hiccups and some cute MC stuff. Makes it feel less staged which I appreciate. Still not a fan of “Close to you”. It starts out so promising but the rest of the song is just meh to me. Been a while since I’ve listened to “Genjitsu no Metaphor”. Solid performance, definitely among my top 3 of this session. Wish we would have gotten some guitar playing from Keiko in “Burn in the Wind” but it was fun nonetheless. The percussion in particular was really cool here. I love the song and while Keiko tends to struggle during the really high part I always enjoy her performance. I will admit that “Kirai.” has grown on me in the past few weeks but I don’t think it’s a song that sounds particularly good live. Mind you, it’s not bad but I honestly just prefer to listen to the studio version. “Endroll” is 100% the stand-out of this session. I don’t even remember liking it back in the day but Keiko’s more recent performances have all been super epic. Not to mention, seeing her play the guitar makes me all tingly inside XD And the gritty singing style really works for her in this song. It’s kinds funny that Keiko is almost overshadowed by her own vocal tracks in “Alcohol”. Definitely among my least favourite performances of the session, it’s just not a song I can enjoy. “Hitori Janai Kara” was surprisingly touching. Not a huge fan but Keiko’s performance was heartfelt.
