B Movie Mondays

Robert (NR, 2015) DVD - Tubi Run Time: 1h 30m Watches: 2 IMDB Rating: 3.1/10 My Rating: 🦈🦈 Word Count: 420 

This movie might not actually be a B movie, by my God is it a bad movie.

Robert is your run of the mill haunted doll movie, complete with a strange little boy and oblivious parents. What separates Robert from other spooky doll movies? I'm not sure. Maybe it's them being British. 

Now Robert is meant to be a horror movie. Or at least that was the assumption. Jam packed with homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and classism the only horrifying thing about this movie is the blatant bigotry.

I think they were trying to make a doll that looked like Chucky, but ended up giving us Shane Dawson on an episode of Botched. Robert is a try hard prop that somehow didn't try hard enough. It's trying so hard to look scary and grotesque that it's almost funny. There’s nothing unsettling about him. They try to make Robert do heinous things such as…steal sugar and ruin a painting? He also murders people, but that's so mundane it hardly matters.

The mother in the movie is supposed to have schizophrenia or some sort of psychotic disorder and the way this movie handles it is unbearable. Her husband is such an awful person to her and it's almost hard to watch. The husband isn't supposed to exactly be likeable, so I suppose they did that well, but at the same time he's unlikeable in what seems like an unintended way. Regardless, the entire family is quite insufferable. The wife is shrill and generally annoying, the husband is a class act asshole, and the son is so boring that I can't even really remember him doing anything noteworthy. 

No one in this movie is a particularly good actor either. None of the performances are exactly convincing, which tends to be important in a horror movie. This felt like a soulless parody more than a movie of its own. Chucky walked so Robert could crawl.

Would I waste an hour and 30 minutes of my time on this movie again? Absolutely not. Do I recommend you waste an hour and 30 of your time on this movie? Also no! Unless you really love bad horror, there's nothing to watch this movie for. No interesting scenes, no character development, no meaningful twists. 

This movie was based on a real doll. They had a real paranormal event to draw from and yet they still fell short. They pride themselves on being different from Annabel and Chucky, but it's just another clone. This movie is boring and uninspired.

I was tagged by @dreadthewolf to do this, so why in the hell not? Fave movie genre: gah! This is hard... I'd have to say either superhero (that's a genre, right?) for the nerdy thrill I get, action (for the general thrill) or comedy (because everyone needs a good laugh every now and then) Last video game played: the Sims 3. I'm super into writing stuff and sometimes I just need to visualise my characters. I can't actually draw so I use the Sims to help... I also recently downloaded some stuff so I can make drag queens and I've been having a wale of a time with that. Fave video game: series? Elder Scrolls. Hands down, one of my favourite series in history. From plot lines, to character creator, to the sheer openworldness (?) of the games. So much freedom!! For a single game imma have to go Oblivion. Yes, an elder scrolls game. I just loved the plot lines so much and got emotionally invested in too many of the characters. Dragon Age comes in a close second though. Interests: uh, reading, writing and general generic stuff? YouTube, I watch a lot of Drag stuff, Shane Dawson, SimplyNailogical and some Thread Bangers. I'm super into RuPauls Drag Race at the moment (follow me and my friend's Twitter @shutupphiphi to see us live tweet us watching the show when we can't be bothered to do work in school). I love Star Wars, so good! I like food, food is an interest. Batman. Batfam. Suicide Squad (I actually loved that movie, fight me haters... actually don't.... Im a lover, not a fighter). Spn. LGBTQ+ (I'm straight, but allied). Star Trek. Meat Loaf. Blondie. Bonnie Tyler. Panic! At the Disco. Lady Gaga. Bon Jovi. Now I'm just listing things... Ummm, yeah? Can't think of much else... Best subject: English. I'm fluent 😂. No, but really. It's the only subject I've ever really done well in or been able to properly concentrate (for the most part). I swear I must have ADHD or something... *gasp* imma half-blood! (Yes I know that's not accurate, but I have a dream godsdamnit) Print or cursive: a bit of both. My handwriting is this weird mixture of the two that changes constantly Fave TV show: Merlin. The best show to ever grace our screens. I watched every episode, never missing a week, when it came out. I part of me died when Merlin ended and I can rant about how good it was for a solid hour. I also really love Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It was funny with good messages and just enough drama to keep it compelling. Eye color: blue Hair color: naturally a dull brown. I get blonde highlights in it to brighten it with dashes of red. It's pretty straight with a few waves. Religion: i have no idea, literally none. I was raised in a semi Christian family but eh. I get religion but I can't quite wrap my head around it I guess. Fave season: Autumn. I just think it's so pretty and I love watching my dogs go scrumping for apples during October/November. It's pretty chill. My favourite place in the world is Devon and one of the prettiest things ever is seeing the moorland in the autumn. The colours are gorgeous and it's almost surreal Fears: height (more the falling or certain death part), airplanes (I don't trust them), spiders (requires no explanation), hospitals (spent a lot of time in them as a kid). There area few deeper ones but I figure they probably aren't appropriate for this.
