🎭 for the book asks
I have the perfect one for this!!!
🎭
The Drama Teacher by Koren Zailckas! This is a suspense novel about a woman who was basically raised by a con artist, and grows into one herself--at the start of the story, she's hit hard times and is scheming to survive, and make a good life for her kids. I'm a sucker for a con artist, and this book was great at showing the details of how she got what she wanted. I found the current day most compelling, but there were also interesting chapters exploring her backstory and giving the character real depth.
Thanks for playing!

2023 TOG fanart wrap up!
[2021 wrap-up] [2022 wrap-up]
That time of the year again! This one was a weird one and I feel like generally I was way behind the numbers I reached previous years but lets see:
This year I drew 62 TOG fanarts out of 96 digital pieces. On closer inspection:
I featured the characters 87 times:
Joe: 34
Nicky: 23
Nile: 11
Andy: 8
Booker: 9
Quỳnh: 7
By ship/grouping:
Joe/Nicky: 14
Family*: 4
Andromache/Quỳnh: 3
Andy/Achilles, Joe/Booker/Nile, Nile/Moose: 1 each
*fanarts where platonic relationships were the focus/the whole gang was featured
Solo character drawings:
Joe: 19
Nicky: 5
Andy: 1
Quỳnh: 3
Booker: 2
Others section:
Originals: 7
Suburra: 5
Diabolik: 4
Grishaverse: 3
Kenzarelli: 1
So, in total it's a little less than last year, and less varied, not surprising given the lack of new material (the sequels WHEN???) and that my inspiration has been on and off this year due to life and again, no new material :(
Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who's been interested in my art, who has rebblogged it or left a kind comment, they all mean a lot and feed my wonky inspiration well <3 thank you too to my fellow artists on @theartguard still chugging and drawing and keeping each other inspired and motivated despite it all <3<3<3
#this all goes out to the 7 people still active in this fandom akhdfkg#sorry i keep terrorizing you w my fanart#or you're welcome#you chose#the old guard#tog#tog fanart#the old guard fanart#end of the year wrap up#2023 wrap up#i cannot believe the year is done ohmygoddddd

And of course, my reading bingo! According to goodreads, I read a total of 48 books: 29 of them were comics, 13 were conventional books, and 6 were audiobooks.
I also started an essay book ("Languages of Truth: Essays 2003 - 2020" by Salman Rushdie), but I haven't finished it yet; I got busy reading two other essay books ("All of the Marvels" and "the Tolkien Reader") and Rushie just fell through the cracks. But I've enjoyed what I've read from the book so far, and I return to it every so often, so I'll finish him eventually.
(Unlike Chekov, who is languishing on my shelf, but let's not talk about it.)
Here's the full list of what I read in 2024, including a few reviews I left on goodreads:
🦸♂️ DC Comics:
Batman: A Lot of Li'l Gotham
Batman and Robin, Vol 1: Father and Son

Red Hood: Outlaw, Vol 1: Requiem for an Archer [review]
Red Hood: Outlaw, Vol 2: Prince of Gotham
Red Hood: Outlaw, Vol 3: Generation Outlaw [review]
Red Hood: Outlaw, Vol 4: Unspoken Truths [review]
Robin War (crossover event compilation)
Robins: Being Robin [review]
Teen Titans #4: Robin [review]

#persona 3#persona 3 spoilers#minato arisato#makoto yuki#ryoji mochizuki#aigis#ryomina#lizzy does art#HELLO EVERYONE!!! march 5th is upon us again so i bring... my contribution for this year. my third year drawing for it!#i made the thumbnail for this a few weeks after last year's graduation day#i thought it would be fun to lean into the ryominaigis angle of graduation day (you could read this as minato/aigis if you like-#but i feel like most people would read it as ryoji/minato)#IN ANY CASE working on this made me very emotional over this game :') (specifically minato)#i really enjoy how p3 ends it's such a nice way of wrapping up the narrative's messages and themes#working on this. minato's kindness was at the forefront of my mind throughout the piece#and i really wanted to capture how. ultimately it was his decision to sacrifice himself- to do the great seal#while to an outsider's perspective it is. sad that minato passes. i think becoming the seal is something that minato-#actively welcomes. in the same way that death (ryoji) is a comfort to him because death was housed in him for Ten YearsTM#AND I ALSO GOT REALLY SAD OVER AIGIS TOO. i still get fucked up over how in fes's animated cutscene for 3/5 they portray-#her as human and not drawing the robot parts so i wanted to do something smilar here...#but also i am very sad on aigis's behalf because she discovers her humanity through minato and realizes what she-#wants to do and then. well. minato is like. he's ready to pass on (even if he's scared) and im like. OH MY GOD THIS TRIO GETS ME MESSED UP#this was more coherent in my head LOL BUT ough i like drawing p3 and working through my feelings about it...#anyway! happy (in quotations) march 5th. i love this game to bits. it's so fun to draw for this day every year and see how i've improved#if you've read all this thank you :) lizzy appreciates you all very much. mwah! <3

Which song is your #6 or #14 or whatever isn't interesting to me; I wanna hear where in your list the first song from each of your top 5 artists shows up. Or the last one
#music talk#spotify wrapped#(starting a tag in case anyone doesn't care)#brave new world (starset)‚ stranger (seeming) and sunnyside (idkhow) are my 2–4#but frost* is my number one artist and doesn't show up until milliontown at 32#and blue stahli‚ which i actually do not understand being in my top 5 i didn't realize i listened that much tbh‚ is ultranumb at 38#and ready aim fire at 63 and that's it. just those two. i guess it was more his broad discography i was into this year#last idkhow is downside (99)‚ frost* is numbers (90)‚ starset's degenerate (73) and seeming is the flock (82)#unless you count indomitus by ivardensphere (89) which is not by seeming but features the vocalist so they're credited as an artist#btw just to set the record straight milliontown is 27 minutes long and i listened to the entire thing start to finish every time i played i#i never skipped to or skipped any parts of it and somehow it ended up place 32 so that#is my disorder#unsubtly posts asking for certain songs just so *i* can talk about mine

Wrap up book ask; giving you options: 🪺🪩🪤
ooo i love these!
🪺
Nestlings by Nat Cassidy! One of my favorite takes on vampires--I loved the lore and the way the main characters being Jewish affected the ways they interacted with the vampires. Also, I'm a big fan of motherhood horror, especially new motherhood, and this was a great book for that! The other big thing I remember is how it managed to feel so current day New York while preserving the foreboding feeling of going to Dracula's castle. Highly recommend!
🪩
Your Favorite Band is Killing Me by Steven Hyden! This was a nonfiction book about music rivalries, and I found it both interesting as someone who doesnt always keep up with pop culture, and so funny. My only storygraph entry for this one was "i find the author's writing style so charming", which i stand by. Especially since i cheated and went to find this excerpt on my blog:
🪤
I'm cheating and doing two books for this because i have two different interpretations of the trap 😂
first is Tusks of Extinction by Ray Naylor! @libraryspectre first alerted me to the existence of this book by posting about the bonkers blurb/synopsis, screenshotted below
that bonkers premise was the cheese luring me in to reading the book, and i'm glad it did! It was a surprisingly sincere book, and I was especially compelled by the descriptions of mammoth memories, and the exploration of poachers vs conservation. Weird little book that i'll probably read again!
The second book is Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon, which is a very creepy folk horror novel. For this one, the cheese is a nice old house in the countryside where Life Goes Slower (and creepier but shh dont worry about that), and the mouse is poor Ned, who believes Things Are Turning Around! Dont worry at all about the goings on in town, or the promises of the harvest home festival. Dont worry about the grave outside the cemetery, or the way people curse its owner's name. Dont worry about the woods, and what could go down there. Everything is probably gonna turn out great!
Love the creeping dread with this one, and the reveal at the end truly took me out.
Thanks for playing!! This was really fun ☺️

Izutsumi character study
#dungeon meshi#izutsumi#One of my goals for this year was to spend more time doing art studies.#What better way to start than with my favourite danmeshi character (not seen: a whole page of figuring out her features)#I feel like she is by far one of the most poorly understood characters in the series. Partially due to her 'late party member' status.#'She's abrasive and mean' - 'she's a picky eater' - 'she's a catgirl who acts like an asshole cat ' YES and that is the point!#Everyone in dungeon meshi is traumatized and messy about it but izutsumi is just less polite in how she tries to cope.#Izutsumi is a extremely traumatized teenager who has utterly lacked autonomy her entire life.#She is the epitome of a “If I can just have X thing then all my problems will be solved!” character. And the X is 'Freedom'.#Her epilogue was one of the best and wrapped up her character so wonderfully (WARNING: I WILL NOW SPOIL PART OF THE ENDING)#Because she finally gets her freedom! She can go where she wants to and she doesn't need anybody! Yet...it doesn't fix her.#She is so focused on doing only what she wants that she forgets her own needs. Sometimes you have to eat the things you don't want.#And sometimes you have to face the hard truths that you need more than just one thing to make you happy.#Life is not all about only seeking pleasures and avoiding pain. You need to be balanced in order to grow.#Eat your vegetables (including the metaphorical ones: I am eating more art veggies this year by doing art studies!!!)

Filled out my bingo cards for "stuff I watched in 2024."
My criteria for TV shows to include were shows that I intentionally watched (so nothing that happened to be playing in the same room as me unless I became invested in it) and shows that I watched 3 or more episodes of. The only shows that deviated from these rules were shows like "Dragonhalf" and "Killer Cakes," which only had 2 episodes; however they do count for these purposes because I watched the entire (very short) series.
My criteria for movies to include were films that I intentionally watched (again, nothing that just happened to be playing nearby) and films that I saw all or most of.
📺 TV Shows I watched (at least partially) in 2024:
"6teen"
"Batman: the animated series"
"Batman: the Caped Crusader" (started, didn't finish)
"Be Cool, Scooby-Doo"
"Being Human" the American version (watched most of Season 1 but gave up on it)
"Bewitched"
"Cromartie High School"
"Dr. Pimple Popper" (my current favorite reality show)
"Dragonhalf"
"Frasier" (rewatching random episodes)
"Free! Iwatobi Swim Club," "Eternal Summer," and "Dive to the Future" (I watched all three seasons and had a blast! I never saw the third season before, so that was exciting)
"Gravity Falls"
"Justice League Action"
"Killer Cakes"
"Magnum, P.I." the reboot
"Murder, She Wrote"
"Mutant X" (started, didn't finish)
"Psych"
"Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"
"Sonic Boom"
"The Edge of Sleep" the Amazon version
"The Feed" (which I started and want to finish)
"The Legend of Vox Machina" (made it through Season 2, have not started Season 3)
"Tokyo Vampire Hotel" (I watched this whole thing... and I couldn't tell you a goddamn thing about it, tbh)
"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?"
📺 Movies I watched in 2024:
"A Charlie Brown Christmas" Mendelson and Melendez Productions, 1965
"It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown" Mendelson and Melendez Productions, 1992
"A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" Mendelson and Melendez Productions, 1973
"Asteroid City" Universal Pictures, 2023 (which I watched multiple times this year, and has become a new comfort movie)
"Batman Forever" Warner Bros., 1995
"Batman & Robin" Warner Bros., 1997
"Big Top Scooby-Doo" Warner Bros., 2012
"Bottoms" MGM, 2023
"Coraline" Laika, 2009
"Crimson Peak" Legendary Pictures, 2015
"Dave Made a Maze" Dave Made An LLC, 2017
"Donnie Darko" Flower Films, 2001
"Face Your Fears: Thriller Shorts for Adults" Magnetfilm, 2020
"Five Nights at Freddy's" Blumhouse Productions, 2023
"I Love You, Phillip Morris" EuropaCorp, 2009
"Le Voyage Dans La Lune / A Trip To The Moon" Georges Méliès, 1902

Okay Elle you don’t just get to be an incorrigible sweetheart to everyone and not get the same question in return!
Now that year is coming to a close and we’ve been graced with so many of your amazing works (not to mention your presence on this site) I must know...if you were to do a 12 fics for 12 months wrap up of your own blog, what would be your 12 most memorable fics of the year? What are you most proud of, and/or what do you keep coming back to? I’m so excited to know what your favs are (and if they overlap with my favs of yours haha) :)
aaaah hmmm.... ok let's see..... (this might be difficult because my blog is only a year old so that is ALL of my fics lol), in no particular order:
"I'm too much" "You're perfect" (Sirius x potter!reader hurt/comfort) -> I love some good hurt comfort and I liked the way I characterized reader and how sweet/soft Sirius was <3
the ruined apothecary (Remus runs into feisty!reader post Hogwarts) -> I liked Remus' characterization and think reader was so fun in this
morose manatees (James is told to leave barty x potter!reader alone) -> reader is me, I am reader, and Barty was such a good boy <3
Two Steps Forward (poly!marauders x fem!reader struggling with mental health) -> probably one of my favourite hurt/comfort's I've ever written, perhaps on of my all time favourite fics of mine*
Sirius' Admirer (poly!wolfstar x shy!reader feat. possessive Remus) -> I found this fic so funny for no good reason, I love shy!reader too because I don't find any of the boys (save potentially Remus) being shy so she's fun to throw into the mix
cancelled plans (spoiler alert, poly!moonwater x fem!reader love them) -> this fic surprised me, it was a short little blurb and I didn't expect to like it as much as I do
Evan's little freak (reader has a mentyB, poly!rosekiller try to navigate it) -> idek what to say about this one; probably the first time I wrote for Evan and felt good/confident in his characterization
not so surprising after all (remus x reader, S!WML epilogue) -> writing this and reading this filled me with so much peace and joy; my love for it really is indescribable. also a contender for one of my favourite fics I've ever written*
Go See Your Lover Boys (poly!moonchaser following a full moon) -> Sirius was so fucking funny in this I actually laugh out loud when I reread it, and moonchaser being so soft just aifhweifa
Our Keeper (poly!jegulus x fem!reader who plays keeper for slytherin) -> more hurt comfort, jegulus being each other's yin and yang idk, just hits right
All this over a hug? (poly!wolfstar x Potter!sister who feels touch starved) -> again, always love potter!sister, loved her internal dialogue, loved the boys, and part two was sooooo fun too
"still?" "always." (Finnick reunites with hijacked!reader in District 13) -> one of my all time favourite tropes, I love high stakes hurt comfort, and felt really good about this fic <3
