I keep thinking to myself: why did I make so wildly different designs between Aline Enbukyoku and both their appends? What was passing through my head at the time?

I frankly don't remember... Maybe something about representation? Maybe freedom of design? Maybe I wanted to design UTAU voicebanks people could relate to and bring a smile to their faces?

If that was the case, I hope I succeeded in making at least one person smile and feel more comfortable with themself in this already very difficult world.

I was asked to review this UTAU by her creator! Today, we’ll look at a soft voice.

Aline has no official site, but she has a wiki page with link to all her voicebanks. FLUFFY is the last link under the Voicebank Distribution section.

Design

Aline has a well put-together design. The choice to give her shorts and a long coat instead of a dress or skirt makes the lolita-inspired stand out. Her colors are picked expertly to look cute, but also have a sense of value instead of being all pastels. There are just a few things that look unnecessary such as the apron and the bow accents on the side of the shorts. The leggings under the pants and the choker also don’t do much to enhance her design.

First Impressions

Aline’s Fluffy voice is high pitched and breathy. Her tone is very sing-song and sounds genteel and happy. She is a monopitch CV but is made a little differently than the average beginners’ CV.

Configuration

Fluffy is specifically recorded in rentan, a script which works like CV but is recorded like a VCV with multiple syllables spoken in each audio file. This makes her voice sound much smoother

She also has beginning breaths, ending breaths,(a few standalone breaths too!)  and VV transitions. All of the additions are easy to use and very appreciated.

She has a bit of an atypical accent, pronouncing “shi” more like “si” and me more like “mi,” but these things are minor and usually not too far off from how they’re supposed to sound.

Ease of Use

She really shines in slower/mid tempo songs, it’s where she sounds the most natural and where her soft tone works best. Her voice is very receptive to g flags and lowering her gender factor gives her a sweet sound. Many of her samples (such as vowels) require prefixes to be used, but it’s not a huge problem once you figure out what to put.

Final Thoughts

Aline is an UTAU with a lot of effort put into her who’s a great choice for anyone looking for a soft voice.
