Have mixed feelings about Empire of the Vampire/Empire of the Damned because they're this tone of grimdark where it's so overthetop in its misery it's almost silly. And like, anything can be taken away from you at any moment so it's hard to get attached and the protagonist is one of the baddest dudes who ever lived. So it's hard to feel the full depths of goth-y misery, you know? It's not like it's humorless. It is sometimes fun and is definitely interesting in invention. I am fond of the characters but not quite fond ENOUGH to fully rec this .

However. The real draw is.

These books have the most frequent and explicit on page sex of any book I've ever read that wasn't actual erotica. Especially Empire of the Damned. A very specific, Very bisexual tone of universal horniness (with typical +vampirism) that vibrates at almost my exact frequency.
