The story of the Small Emperor Moth is one that resonates with me. (Look it up it’s short and to the point). The lesson that struggle and perseverance make us stronger and better at surviving. Well, here he is. I wanted to make this piece quite maximalist, and at the same time make the piece fluid and flow… which was just a feat in itself. The last photo is with the glass on, as you can see due to the size of the glass it distorts when trying to take a photo. Honestly it looks better in real life. Emperor Moths 

(Saturnia pavonia) 

The Emperor Moth is one of the largest moths to be found in the UK. The male (pictured) is the smaller of the two sexes and displays gorgeous warm colours of brown and orange compared to the grey-blue tones of the female. Although fairly common in Britain, I haven’t come across one myself and so wanted to honour a drawing to this species and hope others will fall in love with their regal splendor as much as I have. 

Update: Now embellished with gouache gold!
