Drawing From Anime Reference: 1 Year

This is my art I did one year ago of Emilyko from Shadows House. It was the first art I did to start my art journey. It's terrible, I didn't know what I was doing, I was depressed and hated my art. I hated how bad I was compared to other people. Of course I knew it took years but I felt that I would never get good since I have never been creative before. I had so many negative emotions I didn't want to continue. But soon I started trying to do inktober in my own way but drawing sketches of characters. I saw some progress in that and I was happy. But I got a job and I didn't have much time to draw anymore. I got depressed again and barely drew. Then this year I started drawing for the Hogwarts Legacy fandom which was what started this whole thing.

Now, a year later I've barely drawn at all but I decided to redraw Emilyko from the same reference. The difference is absolutely astounding. I still don't know what the hell I'm doing and only imitated the reference, but its already so much better than before. I've learned to color pick and attempt shading. I've gotten better at imitation, though sometimes its a hit or miss.

Drew Kate and Emilico for my bf’s birthday but thought it was worth posting bc it looks v nice (and I redrew it twice)

So for this idea, my sister and I wanted the Main 10 (aka the 5 Shadows and their 5 Living Dolls of the first debut) plus Edward and a special creature as skins.

Similar to the Persona 5 collab, my sister thought it’d be fun to be able to switch between the Living Face and the Shadows.

A bit of spoilers for some of the ideas, so these will be under the cut!! (Check out the on-going manga, it’s one of the most interesting mystery series out there!)

Kate & Emilyko = Anne

A bit of spoilers for the First Debut maze arc, Kate’s able to use her soot to make herself a pair of wings to glide with. Emilyko’s also really flexible(?), and I think that would work well with Anne. (Also, a really cute accessory item would be Birdie, who is a toy Emilyko made!)

John & Shaun = William

John’s a very strong person, and has soot powers that provide him physical strength. Personality wise, he tends to run head first into things, and while I don’t believe William is like that, it works in terms of his gameplay being able to run into hunters and objects. While we’re not exactly able to get John’s “John Punch” in, we can still give William a ball that appears to be made out of soot!

Louise & Lou = Evelyn

My sister and I were debating between Margie and Evelyn because Louise tends to want to appear more “cute” which made more sense with Margie since Evelyn’s more “elegant”. But my sister said that it’d be neat if Evelyn’s white powder trick could be soot, which seemed to be a lot cooler! It’s a bit difficult to incorporate Louise’s soot powers in general, so this works well.

Shirley & Ram = Helena

There’s a girl named Anna/Nancy who wears glasses similar to Helena, but alas, she’s not a part of the Main 10. (Besides, them and Oliver/Olly would fit better as Tracy and Luca anyways LOL) Still, Shirely and Ram are very cute, and there’s just something about them being a skin for Helena is just so fitting.

Patrick & Ricky = Edgar

Honestly, my sister and I thought Patrick & Ricky as Victor would’ve been hilarious so then he could send a soot creature as Wick to bite the hunter LMAO- But @ladyandthewalrus sent me someone’s fanart of their idea for a Shadow’s House/IDV collab (which ayyyyyyy, same brain!!) and having Edgar as them just made more sense. So thank you 😌

Ed & Edward = Antonio

Although Edward was seen playing only the piano in the series, his soot powers allow him to manipulate sound, which adds to him playing music. I checked Antonio’s skins and he doesn’t seem to have any collaboration skins, albeit understandable considering his abilities. But I think this is the coolest decision that could be done for IDV. Netease pls pls pls-

Soot Creature/Scorches = Violetta

Okay, hear me out: imagine getting to play the little freaky creatures made of soot running around to attack survivors just like the creatures in the series? I think that would be a missed opportunity to not have them, and what better choice than to have a lovely Violetta? While soot creatures do not shoot webs, I don't believe Violetta has any collab skins soooooo-

If anyone has any thoughts about what they would change, please, I would love to hear them!

kate x oliver?

i don't think i've ever seen anyone ship these two, anon, which is curious considering there are a few canon moments that could be interpreted as shipbait! (i think i made a post about this already when season 2 was airing)

i'm not gonna lie, they're not a ship i think about a lot or that i'd read fanfics about, but i can see it? he's her (former) star bearer of choice so they interact often, she seems to find his sciencey conversations interesting, and he seemed very excited about researching her unique condition

i feel like their "shippability" peaked in 1) the chapter where oliver and ollie apologize to kate and emilyko for their unhinged memory erasing plan (...they kinda look like the "i believe in female supremacy" meme the way they're posed), and 2) when oliver proposes the fake engagement, i feel like there's potential there for an au where they actually go through with this idea

again i can't really imagine kate not being with emilyko, not even in the future when they're old enough for serious relationships, and not even if they're also dating other people BUT i also choose to believe oliver has at least a bit of a crush on ollie. like come on, he doesn't believe his human has ever done anything wrong in his entire life, not even when ollie was having his mad scientist awakening. i can't imagine them not being together either

...btw i drew fanart of them once as a joke. one like on this and i'll post it

I just binged the Shadow house manga and god I love this story so much. The environmental story telling is just wonderful and I love the mystery, every detail has a purpose and god I just love it so much.

Personally John is my favorite character and maybe one day I’ll get around to drawing him and Shaun, but I love Kate and Emilyko’s designs too much not to draw them first.
