I find it interesting and probably hilarious to a degree about how Emer has several moments where she seems ‘larger than life’, which puts the common assumption of her being a mere mortal into doubt sometimes. Well, for me at least…
I mean…
Her father and aunt having the ability to shape shift and send a horde of demons(?) to kill Cú Chulainn (Come to think of it, isn’t she the grand niece of Tethra through her father?).
Her marriage condition for her future husband is to ‘kill an army’ (To summarize it at least…)
Was able to outrun the other wives during Bricriu’s feast on the ‘basis of her speed’, usually described as ‘faster than a chariot’ (Do you think she could outrun Achilles or Atalanta on Nerofest?)
Describes her husband’s warp spasm as ‘beautiful’ (Lady, you’ve got some uhh ‘interesting’ kinks going on over there 😅)
Has the balls to kill her love rival who is a fairy queen. Heck, she even challenged her husband to a fight 🤯
Like…Emer you sure you’re really ‘normal’???

The old man forgot that he was also at fault of why his fairy wife left and began to seek out Cu. Like yo, who abandons their wife in the middle of a battle, hello? Not to condone Fand's actions in the latter part but Manannan's also responsible as much as him.
this is because cu literally doesn’t remember by the way, the story ends with the druids giving him and emer a potion to make them forget what happened. this profile frames it like he totally knows what you’re talking about and is avoiding responsibility but he literally does not remember because his memory of the events was wiped. it also leaves out the part where emer got an armed girl gang together to get him back so this summary of the story is double stupid
#cuz manannan doesnt have beef with cu#besides the wasting illness arc was started because mana dipped on fand to begin with so really cu legit /cannot/ be at fault here#i enjoy the occasional cu bullying but now theyre just making excuses to make manannan bully him#this is bit offensive to his wife emer who literally took the risk of going to the otherworld just to get him back#fate series#fate grand order#fgo#cu chulainn#cu chulainn fate

Do you think any of Fionn's wives could be summoned as servants? I know the base summon rules probably don't really allow for it but at this point when FGO it kinda seems like a "whoever they want for whyever or however they want". I was thinking of Sadhbh specifically, though I feel like because of legend it would be treated a little like Rama and Sita; obviously not the exact same way but a similar "where one is the other can't be" but like also,,,, being able to hold his beloved Sadhbh (1/2)
Funnily enough, a few years back I did actually talk about some of these scenarios and came up with what classes Fionn's wives and Emer would be! We won't go through all of them here but!
Sadhbh: Caster, because of her fae heritage and it'd be a nice irony given she was cursed via magic to begin with. Could also manifest as a low tier Saber or Lancer by borrowing one of Fionn's weapons, like how Medb took Fergus' sword for her summer alt lol
Emer: Easy Saber for the sole reason that she was willing to rock up on Fand and fight her to get back Cu Chulainn. I can't remember if she's said to have had any specific weapons on her, but she did gather up all her maids and friends for the cause so she must've had something. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned and by god Emer was pissed!
If Fionn and Cu got to see their wives in Chaldea again they would both simply clutch tightly to them and never let go, full weeping on their knees and everything. If Conchobar shows up he's getting killed and bullied every single time one of the Celts lays eyes on him, and Medb would of course be first in line to do so
The funniest possibility however is if Aoife showed up. She can't fight her sister anymore bc of Cu but she can reignite the Sibling Rivalry in super petty and competitive ways so seeing her and Scathach challenging one another to every sport or competition in existence would be highly entertaining to all involved

⋗⋗ to be perfectly honest, i might have to work on the notes to my portrayal a bit more and actually start pushing myself to release more info on how i portray him, what i've changed about his lore, what i've kept and a lot more.
⋗⋗ as well as detailing notes about the aus like f.go, the au where he's an avenger instead of a lancer but was "summoned as a lancer", the drrr!! au that's been bouncing in my head since the conception of this blog.
⋗⋗ the biggest convergence i have is that he will talk about his wife, emer, despite her being either ignored or completely written out in most excerpts of fate. his wife was noted in quite a few of the stories i've read about lancer's lore, so i'm not going to pretend he doesn't have a wife. (i'm gonna add this point to my rules but written in a different manner)
⋗⋗ this doesn't mean i'm not going to ship with anyone- far from it. emer is a big part of his life. he's going to talk about her and wish that his current love could've met his past love because he thinks they'd like each other. in a way, if he could have both of them, he would. no question.
⋗⋗ i also intend to start portraying caster!cu chulainn at some point! i've icons made of him to use but i need to figure out what about him has changed as i don't fully follow how fgo does things in terms of when a legendary hero is summoned in a different class.

It’s kinda interesting how they managed to ‘lighten up’ Odysseus’s character in Fateverse but not Cú’s, considering (myth-wise) both of them are equally notorious womanizers 😅 and are married to women whom are acknowledged as their equals in certain aspects; in addition to being faithful towards them (sometimes too much for their own good 😮💨).
They do talk about Emer, albeit implicitly compared to the other female characters who were part of Cú’s mythical story. Most of the time, she’s referred to as ‘princess’ (or his ‘true love’, according to that one FGO Valentine’s Day event where he gets roasted by Caren big time). Also, idk why but Fate seems to be afraid of mentioning her or something (like why? lol).
In FHA, she’s initially introduced as the princess he fell in love with at first sight (his type of woman even) and eventually his wife in the later part (heck he calls her ‘his princess’). Cú mentioned her stopping him twice; the 1st was preventing him from killing his own son and the 2nd was before the battle that would lead to his inevitable death.
In FGO, they highlight that part of his legend trying to win her hand in marriage at his Bond Lvl. 5 (Spoilers: It’s a profile update once you clear his Rank Up Quest). One of his ‘My Room’ lines also mention about being unable to keep the promises he made to 4 women; one of them being a ‘princess’, which I highly assume could be pertaining to Emer (writers, it better be her or else…🗡️).
With his Fate characterization, I think they probably want to focus more on his aspects as a warrior/hero. But also, legend-wise; the courtship of his wife was also a big part of his making as a warrior 😅
As for Bazett’s case, it’s probably due to the background of her family and the possession of Fragarach in her arsenal. The sword being related to the god (Manannán) she’s hosting in her body.
I honestly love FGO’s depiction of Odysseus from what I’ve seen (I think he’s in the LBs but I’m only at LB1). When I read the Odyssey, I never really cared for Odysseus as a person—it was more of his trials and adventure than anything.
I like that despite as not getting Penelope in the game (as far as I know), they made him a faithful man who wants nothing more than to return to her. Without taking characteristics from him that he can still stand as a character himself.
It’s honestly what I had hoped for in Cu—well, I guess not so much a loyal husband since he’s always been…notorious for all his affairs, but if in the Odyssey I felt was more adventure, always felt Cu’s story was more a love story… except I don’t think Fate ever talks about his wife—I know in HA his son is mentioned? (I guess I’ll see when I get there at my snail pace.)
Granted, I think having him as such a notorious flirt and being a married man wouldn’t look good, still I can’t help but feel disappointed. From what I know of Cu’s myth, it’s Emer and the search for a ‘perfect wife’ for him that led him to quite few of his famous myths. I know myths and the depiction in Fate are not 100% accurate (I mean there are so many variations of myths/legends, can’t really blame TM for going another route.) but this was really the only depiction I know of Cu Chulainn. And I thought Emer was really cool from the myths—like she is the perfect wife for Cu Chulainn.
I really thought FGO was going that route when they announced Bazett (not that I ship Cu and Bazett—I don’t really know a lot about her.) instead she’s the pseudo of Manannán mac Lir—for those of you who don’t know Cu’s myth, Manannán is a sea god and the husband of the woman Cu has one of his notorious affairs with.
FGO seems content in keeping Cu as the carrot on a stick for Medb even though her most famed lover is Fergus. Except now Fergus is just her ‘side-chick’ and Cu her main interest… and I think they made something with Scathach and Cu—FGO really didn’t give anything to any of the women Cu actually had a relationship with in his myth—Fand, Aife and Emer.
And the whole reason Cu even went to Scathach was because he needed Emer’s father’s blessing (except Emer’s father was trying to get Cu killed this way) so Cu literally went to train under a renown warrior just so he could marry Emer.
#i don’t think anyone even cares about myths being followed#we don’t get a lot of women in historical myths that are equals with their husbands#there’s a refined elegance and strength#i’m probably in the minority#odysseus#cu chulainn#fgo#fgo na#fanservant emer#emer as a servant when???#fate grand order

Fanservant: Emer
Thank you once again to @vivienna-vivid for this amazing drawing of Emer she did for me. Emer
Class: Assassin
True Name: Emer
Gender: Female
Region: Ireland
Source: Irish Mythology (Ulster Cycle)
Alignment: True Neutral
Height: 165cm
Weight: 66.7kg
Parameters
Strength: D+
Endurance: B-
Agility: B+
Mana: C-
Noble Phantasm: B
Luck: B-
Class Skills
Presence Concealment Rank E-: As an assassin class servant, this skill was a natural one for Emer to possess. However, as she is not trained in the ways of an assassin, nor does she naturally do much to hide her presence, this skill does not do much for her.
Personal Skills
Six Gifts of Womanhood Emer possessed “The Six Gifts of Womanhood'' , and these manifest in her servant self as a skill that allows her to resist mental attacks and afflictions.
Golden Rule (Body) Rank A The possession of a perfect, goddess-like body. Beauty was one of the many things Emer was regarded for. It is obvious that Emer would have this skill, both after asserting her superiority over the other women of Ulster at Bricriu's Feast and proving to be a rival to the Fairy Queen Fand.
Fighting Words Rank A The ability for Emer to reduce the strength and ability of opponents she's fighting by asserting her superiority over them via her words. Is more potent against female targets, and even more potent against Fae, being particularly devastating against opponents who are both.
Noble Phantasm
Oinor Con Eimhear: My Honor, My Words, My Deeds - A vocal noble phantasm that manifests the power of Emer’s words. Activated by announcing both her own true name and the name of her Noble Phantasm, it laces Emer’s already charismatic and convincing speech with magic. This speech-based magic can have a wide variety of effects, from compulsion to encouragement. However, the most potent use of Oinor Con Emhear lies just beneath the surface. Truly, Oinor Con Eimhear works its magic best on a particular type of person: particularly those who remind her of her beloved husband. While compulsion from Emer would be practically irresistible (similar to how Emer’s words enabled Cu Chulainn to rise from his sickbed in order to go seek a cure) it is at its strongest when used to support these kinds of people; supercharging their magical energy and enabling them to fight with incredibly fervor. As you can see, Emer’s utility as a direct combatant is fairly limited, but her utility is nearly unmatched.
Personality
The perfect wife in all manner of ways. Chaste, humble, and wise.
A braggart who never misses the chance to boast her prowess and superiority.
Such is the contradiction of Emer, famed for her chastity, yet dirty talks Demigods in front of her friends and boasts about how all the Ulstermen would abandon their wives for her if only Emer would encourage it.
She’s more restrained as a servant than she was in life, preferring to keep her more blatant boasting infrequent, and sneaking in more subtle boasts where she can. Adds a bit of flavor to the boast, in her opinion. In spite of this, she still maintains an open confidence regarding everything she does.
For all her outward confidence and poise, she has something of a weakness for those who remind her of her husband (or heroes in general). These types can get her flustered surprisingly easily.
The perfect housewife with iron will, atmospheric standards, and an ego to match even the greatest of heroes.
Motive and Attitude Towards Master
Emer treats her master with a kind of reserved respect. While she is outwardly kind and respectful, she still judges her master based purely on her own standards. A brutal honesty is taken towards them - although not for the sake of being rude.
Emer’s wish for the Holy Grail is “To Spend One More Week Alongside her Beloved''. She has no interest in a full second life, but a week should be enough to enjoy all there is to enjoy. Enough time to properly say goodbye on her terms
Historical Depiction
The Wife of Cú Chulainn, greatest hero of the Ulster Cycle of Irish Mythology. The youngest child of Forgall Monach, and his favorite child. Even at a young age, Emer displayed all of the gifts of womanhood (Beauty, Sweet Speech, Needle Work, Voice, Wisdom, and Chastity).
Cú Chulainn came to woo her when they were both 16, and it was love at first sight. However, Emer refused to be married to a nameless child, and demanded that Cú Chulainn perform great deeds before he was worthy to marry her. She also warned him against her father’s defenses, simultaneously providing him with great deeds to satisfy her. Cú Chulainn went off to train in the Land of Shadows, and soon enough returned, strong enough to thrash Forgall’s armys and retrieve Emer.
Later, when the trickster Bricriu plotted to turn Ulster against itself, Emer competed against the wives of Ulster’s other two greatest heroes, and definitively bested them in both a footrace and a contest of words. Later, Emer would attempt to convince Cú Chulainn that he was going to fight his son Connla, but failed.
Emer’s greatest adventure in the legends would come during her husband’s wasting sickness, after the assault on him by Fand, wife of Manannan Mac Lir, a member of the Tuatha De Danann. It was Emer’s words that roused him from his wasting sickness in order to go to Fand in order to seek a cure. When Cú Chulainn returned with Fand, having fallen for her during his time in the Otherworld, Emer gathered a group of 50 women to kill Fand. When Cú Chulainn tried to argue on Fand’s behalf, Emer’s words decisively outmaneuvered both her husband’s and Fand’s, and he was returned to her. Manannan himself then appeared, to guarantee that Cú Chulainn and Fand would never cross paths ever again, with either Manannan himself or the druids of Ulster wiping the incident from the couple’s memory (this memory wipe is no longer in effect when Emer is summoned as a servant) . This dispute between Emer and Fand was one that she won decisively - cementing both her iron will and reaffirming her status as “the best” even when compared to Queens from the Otherworld.
When Cú Chulainn’s end finally came, she mourned him greatly, and some even say that she allowed herself to be buried with him.
Relationships
Cú Chulainn (Lancer): Her beloved husband and model image of a hero. She takes him far less seriously than many others who may have known him - treating him with an extra layer of familiarity you’d expect from his spouse. Her wish for the grail is to reunite with him, so that they can say goodbye on her terms.
Cú Chulainn (Caster): Something of an enigma to Emer. While she knew magecraft was something her husband was capable of - she never remembered him preferring it compared to the spear or the sword. Of course, once she finds out how Caster Cú Chulainn himself feels about this situation, teasing him about his spearlessness came naturally.
Cú Chulainn (Prototype): Another enigma to Emer. While he certainly reminds her of “her” Cú Chulainn, both his younger age and nature of being from a different world/timeline makes her less open towards him compared to the other versions of her husband. She’ll still address him as “husband” but the two are far less close than Emer is with other Cú Chulainns.
Cú Chulainn (Alter): A Cú Chulainn not allowed to be “Cú Chulainn”, instead, the product of a wish made by Queen Medb upon the grail. As such, this is the Cú Chulainn Emer finds herself the most distant from, the one most separate from her. However, this does not stop Emer from loving him, from still seeing the Cú Chulainn within him.
Queen Medb: In spite of being the one responsible for the death of her husband, Emer treats Queen Medb surprisingly amiably, akin to a friendly rival. Whether this friendliness is mutual is far more debatable.
Diarmuid Ua Duibhne: Emer’s feelings towards Diarmuid are…conflicted, to say the least. While she admires Diarmuid on a personal level, and respects him as both a hero and a knight, his connections to Mannanan and fame for usurping the partner of a great hero make Emer uneasy due to causing an association with Fand.
Gilgamesh: The arrogant king of heroes who is the “Natural Enemy’ of her husband. If Emer’s feelings towards Diarmuid are “conflicted” then her feelings on the King of Heroes are downright tumultuous.
Archer (EMIYA): Someone she notes has something of a…”complex” animosity towards her husband. Emer decidesthat their business has nothing to do with her and to engage with Archer on her own terms. They get along reasonably well, but are still rather distant.

Some snippet on what I wrote for Emer’s Fate lore:
She and Cú Chulainn have met way before the events of Tochmarc Emire and before he was given his heroic name, meaning it happened when he was still known as ‘Sétanta’.

Yay, open ask box! ❤️ Can I please request a hc/scenario where s/o gets insecure when Emer is summoned to Chaldea. She finds Emer to be beautiful and intelligent and thinks the Lancer!Cu might leave her for Emer. Thanks!
Emer Summoned to Chaldea + Jealous S/O Head-canons!
Requested by: anonymous
It’s been waaaaayyy too long since I’ve put out a request so sorry guys! Thanks for being patient!
Emer, Cú Chulainn’s former wife, was the very definition of womanhood
Beauty, a gentle voice, sweet words, wisdom, skill at needlework and chastity; she possessed them all and then some, so upon first encountering her, you felt subtle discomfort at her perfection
Cú of course was also surprised to see her as a servant, but was quick to welcome her with open arms
Since of course she was familiar with Cú and other Irish heroes, she quickly found herself a place within their circle
Even though you are also very close with everyone, when Emer joined, it seemed like she had been there the entire time
With years of shared history, the same culture, heritage, and language, it became clear that you were the newcomer, not Emer
She and Cú are very open about their former relationship, cracking jokes that you may or may not have detected flirty undertones hidden within
That uncomfortable feeling you got when you first met Emer has bloomed into flowers of jealousy
Cú seemed so happy to see her again though, so you decided to keep your feelings repressed so you can continue to see his beautiful smile, even if it was not for you
But what you didn’t realize, however, was that you made yourself more and more distant from Cú and everyone else as a result of repressing your feelings, and Emer picked up on it
One day she pulled you aside in the cafeteria for a “heart-to-heart talk”
“I apologize for my crude words, but you haven’t seemed too happy lately. Though I have an idea why, I want to ask you personally.”
As always, Emer was composed and gentle, it seemed impossible to beat her glistening demeanor
You slowly began opening up and expressing your feelings regarding her arrival at Chaldea, being perfectly candid and remaining surprisingly calm
When you finished, she pulls you into a tight hug
“I’m sorry I made you feel that way, and you have every right to dislike me. There is nothing between me and Cú, I promise. I am thankful for this new life in the modern world, but I still yearn for the simpler days of past”
Emer releases you and clasps your hands, “You are amazing, beautiful, intelligent, and so much more. Cú is lucky to have such an lovely lover at his side, I’m quite jealous of him!”
You tear up, not from relief, but from the happiness of making a new friend

Cu Chulainn and the topic of Emer and Connla
i’m not super familiar with irish mythology so if i get anything wrong i apologize!!!
emer
cu’s type is someone who can keep him on his toes and challenge him. emer did exactly that for him
it was very much a love at first sight affair, but the more they got to know each other, the more impressed and enamored he became with her wit
when cu was still young and without a reputation, he’d come to her window and try to woo her - aka the two would flirt by trading riddles and small gifts
(another cute note: if anyone asked emer who was visiting her she’d cheekily respond “nobody ;)” and she wasn’t wrong. bc cu didn’t have a name for himself yet)
tbh i think cu would be ecstatic if emer showed up at chaldea. the two would be an absolute power couple
connla
tfw you laden your son with three geas that ultimately makes you kill him
i think connla is a subject cu feels immense guilt over. the conditions he gave him led to his death. he killed his own son without recognizing him. his skills as a hero killed his own flesh and blood - but couldn’t save him
im sure that if connla is summoned to chaldea, cu would seize this as a chance to make things right. he’s going to be the dad he wasn’t to him!
