@dcviated asked: "Hey Megumin, Merry Christmas." Raguna may or may not have snuck up on her from behind, wrapping his arms around the girl and squeeeezing her in a nice hug. Oh, there's something in his hand offered out for her. A small wrapped box is offered, and should Megumin turn to face the young man he'd be somewhat flushed in his face. "I got this for you. It's uh. A necklace." Upon opening the box and inspecting, she would find a thin metal chain that held a small charm. A smooth red stone- ruby perhaps?- held within silver prongs. "I thought it'd look really nice on you. I hope you like it. There's something for Chomusuke too, some treats I made at home, but I thought it would be better I brought them by your place."
Ah! She's not expecting the arms wrapping around her, as the greeting and well wishes reach her ears. Of course, knowing who it was - relaxes her shoulders of the tension they were holding - instead, a gentle smile finds its way to the engineer's lips. The embrace is warm and welcoming, and, oh - there's a small box in his hand. She carefully collects it, gingerly opening it with a burning blush on her own cheeks, hopefully, hidden away by her hat and hair.
"It's beautiful," she breathes out, a hushed whisper filled with awe at the present, and the giver. Gloveless fingers delicately admire the deep red of the ruby, the setting for the ruby just pronounces its beauty - simple yet elegant.
Her scarf is quickly removed, in favor of donning the necklace - at least Raguna's already behind her, prepared to help with the clasp of the necklace right? "Sorry Raguna, can you help me with this?"
Of course, Chomusuke will be thrilled, to both see Raguna and to receive his treats! Besides, she has to give Raguna his present - something simple, but hopefully, he'll like it. "Are you... coming over then? I mean - Yunyun is going to be out with her family anyway..."

@shadowcatskey sent: "The word "love" can't even scratch the surface of what I feel for you." FelicityRaguna. For our soul!
There could be an extra foot of snow outside those frosted windows, but it still wouldn't dim the warmth Raguna felt in this moment. Huddled together under the blanket with Felicity, his wife, it was impossible for anything to bring him down. Her touch and her words, every moment another new memory he'd be embracing and thinking back to in the many years to come shared together.
"Not even the surface, huh?" Raguna chuckles bashfully, letting the flush mix with the redness as he warms with her by the fire. Even though they were only drinking hot cocoa together he wondered if this was how those laborers felt when they downed their pints after a hard day of work. Curious? No. He wouldn't need that. He only needed Felicity.
"Do we need to find some more words, then? Or maybe it's not something talking is going to be able to convey... I've had that problem before." He's opening himself for a tease. Recollections of those times past on his arrival. Robbed of any discernible speech when in her presence. Or the first time she held his hand. When she thanked him. Or first returned his feelings.
His chest is surging and yet at total rest at the same time. A chaotic calm. A free arm slips around under the blanket and behind Felicity. Pulled closer. Ever closer. And as always not close enough.
"But maybe you can settle for something else for now? Just say that I'm yours. And we can work from there."

How does one even begin to explain the experience? It happened so quickly. After asking the question he had a split second of moment of regret thinking he'd gotten ahead of himself, only for all of that to be quashed. Instead of an answer to his question given through her words, Mist answers with the smallest of actions.
That last breath of distance closes with a whisper of a gasp. But rather than surprise isn't it more like a release? Had Raguna actually been feeling apprehension over this? It feels so stupid now, doesn't it? Arms loop around one another and their bodies meet in such a natural way. How could this be something to wait any longer to do? Her soft lips against his. Their noses and faces brushing.
Raguna might have pushed in a little harder than Mist had, to be fair.
When the two eventually pull apart with mutual feelings of secret reluctance there's a warm daze left. A flush on his cheeks and a dazzle in Raguna's eyes. Wow. When he thought about it the kiss had made all of this feel even more real. They had made that step. Closer. Their arms remain looped around one another. Even if their lips no longer joined it was still close. So warm. It was nice.
"Wha? Sorry for...? No no that was fine. More than fine, it was great. You are great. If anything, doesn't this mean I could have been more forward? I'll remember that for the future." Ah, Mist, you may be inadvertently creating something here with what you're telling this man who's finally embracing his feelings for you. Best be careful. Or don't.
Raguna casts a glance over towards the fire, but is quick to return his attention on Mist. He could lose an entire evening in her eyes, but right now they were losing the heat of the fire and the daylight outside. What they hadn't lost, for better or worse, was the storm of snow.
"I'm split right now. I think we could put some more logs on the fire but I really don't want to get up. Or let you go. Now that I have you in my arms I don't want to lose that.... ahh... hmm..." Raguna chuckles, letting his head rest against Mist's. "I love holding you like this."
Her hands gently remain in his, making no effort to move away. Instead, she flows with his own advancements, not wanting to interrupt him when he spoke. That she loved him now, it was enough... It was as though he'd stolen the words from her head before she could speak them.
Then the question hits the air. It felt like it had been so long, even if it was one conversation that brought them here. Maybe she'd wanted to kiss him, to feel those sparks fly, for a longer time than this. And now she finally had the opportunity. He was asking for permission, so that could be taken as him already wanting to. So, instead of giving an answer, she lets her actions speak instead.
The distance she leans is short as she moves in for the kiss, giving him ample warning by slowly moving her arms from the hold Raguna had on her hands around to hold him. She kisses him softly, not wanting to do anything more than the other would want, especially for being a first kiss between them. Her lips are soft, despite the dryer air of her home due to the fire crackling next to them. To her, it feels like an eternity of sitting there, letting the moment sink into her mind.
It feels like agony for her to finally pull away from him, but she allows herself to do so in time, her face flushed red. That must have come off stronger than she intended, confession or not. Even though she was still happy with such a kiss, she would at least want to be sure that she didn't overstep some unspoken boundary.
"Sorry, I just... Couldn't help myself-" Even in apology, she looks to be smiling. She's apologetic, certainly, but even if she were to replay this moment again, she wouldn't change a thing. Better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission, right? "I suppose that's my answer then... It felt so slow, I wanted to do something on my own-" She would have laughed if things didn't feel so vulnerable then, where they were putting everything on the table.
It would've felt cruel, to laugh then...

An autumnal breeze that carried traces of a bitterly cold winter that's to strike the lands had caressed dawn-tinted cheeks and briefly Mist shiver; already lamenting the loss of the lukewarm weather that came with the spring. Trampoli had temperatures no different than Kardia yet she was certain that at least things were a bit warmer there. But well, she'd long since grown comfortable with this new town and had no plans of moving back. She rubs her hands together to salvage whatever warmth she could gather with body heat. Regardless, the sooner she gets herself out of the cold weather and finds warmth within Raguna's welcoming home the better, and thus, with that new goal in mind, she hastens her steps towards the direction of his farm. Mist oft liking visiting the farmer whenever she could, whether it's due to his charismatic presence that embraced her with a charming friendliness or his snide commentary that played off well with her own eccentric nature... it was hard to say. Perhaps it'd be simple to say that she liked his presence overall and was happy that he'd arrived in Trampoli.
Her thoughts would become interrupted upon seeing a stranger blocking the pathway to his farm. They seemed to have a puzzled expression, mumbling 'neath their breath whatever troubled them. Now, this piqued her interest of course. She'd never seen this person before, and what could have them so upset in a tranquil place such as this she found herself wondering. Hesitance did not follow in the wake of her footsteps as she approached this strange person. She stares, mimics their pose (her index and thumb cupping her chin as she frowns adorably) for a few seconds, as though she were trying to understand their troubles by copying them before shaking her head. "Hmm... I don't really get why you're making an upside down smile like that. It is a bit cold today, but it's still a nice day and the sun's still out, shouldn't you be happy for that at least? It’s not much but sometimes, little things like that can make life all the more better." Smiling to them, she tilts her head.
“But... you know, there’s a fun little tale that wives like to share where if you keep frowning like that in this cool weather your face will stay stuck forever! Sounds neat, huh? But... well... I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to see whether that’s true or not. Perhaps you should keep frowning, you know, for the science of it!”

🌌🌌🌌?
🌌 ) i’m a bitch who stands strong girls and @theswordqueen is serving up a piping hot dish of Badass Babeitude™ to my dashboard on the daily… I cannot express how cool Akane is to me. Unflinchingly sexy, powerful, and just!! fuckin rad! as hell! I don’t want to be that ‘ooh mommy step on me’ lesbian or anything but this woman could (and probably would) stab me and there’s something I just love about that. Also?? I thought she was an official character from a series I didn’t know of or something at first because the visual art? on this blog?? holy shit?????? i’m dumbfounded every time i see it??? I wish i had 2% of their handle on color/shading/expression/drawing talent en general
🌌 ) I follow @theycallmekaibara on… every blog I own, I think. this is another person whose art floors me, but also a lady character I love for embracing qualities that i feel like don’t get enough reverence. the unapologetic, romantic femininity, the air of class as well as confidence, always tethered to whimsy and pure fun. the whole motokomo clan just radiates this lovable energy that makes me wish they were my family, y’feel??? they feel like fresh air and dessert and snuggling puppies; all the good things in the universe in a brightly colored package… i just have so much love…
🌌 ) I don’t mean to just sneak my dad in here but let me sneak my dad in here real quick.
[lifts a megaphone]
AND I-IIIIIII HOLY SHIT - WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU
@rcguna is my dad! my papa bear! one of the absolute most important people in my life who is unquestionably one of the best friends I’ve scavenged out of… nearly a decade on this website. I won’t drown you with the hours of love that I could write here but… bear is my everything, okay. and I’m highlighting raguna here because he’s such a good boy and the fact he can bring so much wholesome charm to a character when his other son is this trainwreck will never cease to amaze
(if you’re following me you already know that the relationship between emké and wylan is clearly the best and most important dynamic i’ve ever written so don’t @ me about it)

It’s the best thing Raguna can do when Illya is wracked in a way he never imagined she could be. Try. Try to empathize with her hurt, and try to be someone she can count on despite being… well, just some stranger from another world as he saw it. But she was vulnerable and scared. But what he wouldn’t let her be, as always, was alone. As before, still now. There was no chance he’d renege on what he had set out to do.
I hate you, Raguna. Yeah. Those words definitely sting as the needle passes through their embrace. And yet even after that statement has been qualified it doesn’t hurt him as much as he thought. Or it wouldn’t have. A strange thing to rationalize in the mind in a scenario like this. Or maybe it didn’t hurt in a way that Raguna expected. Rather than turn him away it only spurs him on to hold her closer. A shift in his position so that he can face her and rest his head against hers.
“I can’t apologize for that.” He admits, sheepishly, petting his fingers over her long white locks as he holds her. “But if it makes you feel a little bit better I am going to take responsibility. No matter what happens, I’m going to make the rest of your days happier. And that’s a promise.”
Crystal clear memories of the last time she and Kiritsugu spoke... the last time she saw him alive. "Childhood amnesia" her ass - the von Einzberns gave her a childhood she sure as hell wouldn't forget anytime soon.
In response to Raguna's seeming comprehension, the last segment of Illya's psychological walls broke down, and now she was openly sobbing and weeping before her loyal... she's still trying to decide what Raguna is to her.
But regardless of what she views him as, here she is, the pompous noblesse, the carefree young woman, both facades completely shattered as she revealed the true overwhelming despair that guided her life. It is so humiliating, for someone she's lorded over for so long to see her like this.
Or so she believes.
Instead, flinches just a little bit as she feels his arm wrapping around her. No mockery, no disappointment, just unprecedented empathy. She glances his way and, after a moment's pause of just staring at him, inches closer and tightly squeezes his waist.
"I really hate you, you know that Raguna...? Because of you, I... I..."
"...I want to live again..."

Fate and Economics: How FSN Is An Economical Commentary By The Spacebattles Forum
You know what’s normal? fate shitposting
You know what’s fun? fate economics shitposting
The beginning of this madness
Raguna Blade said:
You know, thinking on it, yeah that totally makes sense based on what I know of japanese work culture. Especially when mixed with the targeted audience of the FS/N games (otaku type) who were already on the outside edge of such culture and were totally open to hearing alternate idea's of what to do, it makes a clear amount of sense. Tying with the heroines then, it sort of follows that the various routes demonstrate how things work out for him. Following Saber, who basically embodies the Work your ass into dust ideal set's him up with an impossible goal for happiness. Saber has to Wait Forever, He has to work forever and if they can both keep it up without fucking it all up along the way, Glory GLory forever. Rin though? Rin's got a discrete clear goal. It requires hard work certainly, but it's not the end all be all. You need to work certainly, you need to work hard, the world is utterly vicious and will swallow you up (the clocktower, then, is true society I guess. None of those fake niceties, it's kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, real Chaos Route stuff there.) but there's plenty to do aside from it and happiness can coincide easily enough if you're willing to stick out that hand and work for it. And then yeah, Sakura is a full on rejection of that, and it makes sense that in her route there would be the most shit going horribly wrong is just in general kind of the most painful (as my recollection calls anyway). Shirous not only rejecting the dominant paradigm for work ethic, sorta, but he's doing to be with someone who is kind of coded as handicapped(? Recollections may be failing I apologize). Severe Trauma, violent violent freak outs (or just freak outs in general really), Sakura is a broken girl really. SO He not only rejects the idea that he has to work himself into dust for his ideals, Ideals he still technically has but needs to better consider and come to terms with as I understand it, But he makes use of that titanic drive to do something utterly radical and do what would make him truly happy even if it means rejecting basically the entire culture he's in. So that's neat. And Bludflag Imma need you to stop. I can legitimately go at this all day, but my surface level knowledge of the FS/N series is gonna out me as a clown sooner or later and I kinda need to dodge that. Assuming I haven't run face first into the clowning pie already.

The Economic Simulationism of the Fate Franchise Part 1-Economic Mechanisms Many compliments have been offered to Nasu for the depth of his worldbuilding, but very few discuss the blatant economic commentary hidden within his works. In particular, the Masters and Servants of the 5th Holy Grail War* are each distinct commentaries on various Economic mechanisms and social systems. Mechanisms Spoiler: Large Corporations
The first of these mechanisms is one that is obvious even to those unfamiliar with economic theory. The Archer-class Servant Gilgamesh is a Great and Powerful Hero, stronger than any other in the series. He enacted his deeds long ago, and in addition to the power and wealth this initially brought him, he laid claim to the Gate of Babylon, a Capitalistic Means of Production that grows his strength from the work of others. In this current age he has thus become an unstoppable juggernaught who can throw his weight around anywhere in the Marketplace of Ideas. Obviously, Gilgamesh symbolises the tyrannical strength of a Corporation who has become too large, and managed to gain a Monopoly. Interestingly, we can see that his Villainy is linked to his growth and desire to expand, as he never possessed such horrific goals in pre-modern times, or when people had purposes that suited his goals. Interestingly, we know that Gilgamesh was at his most personable back in Ancient times when his friend Enkidu was present. This a clear commentary on the necessity of competition to cause healthier business structures. Spoiler: Rational Choice vs Behavioural Economics
One of the simplest and most basic Economic theorems-known as 'Rational Choice Theory'-is examined by the character of Medea ('Caster'). Rational Choice Theory is the assumption that all individuals within in an Economy will act within their own best interests, acting in order to maximise their profits and minimise their losses. This behavioural pattern is shown by Medea's first master, Atram Galiast. Atram is a skilled mage, backed by the Magus Association and equipped with a workshop full of human sacrifices that could massively empower Caster's Magic. With his support, she could easily achieve success in the Holy Grail War. She instead elects to kill him, release the sacrifices, and wander around without hope of survival. In this, we see that Nasu has chosen to support the converse theoreom that is Behavioural Economics. This is the psychology-based study of human behaviours that examines why humans embrace irrational behaviours that makes modelling human action in an economic model so difficult. Medea rejects her first master due to hatred of being bound, and yet embraces Souichirou Kuzuki for his kindness, in spite of the the tactical disadvantage his lack of magic brings. This demonstrates both how standard logical predictions of her actions fail, however once we understand her psychology better (such as the fact she would rather embrace temporary happiness with Kuzuki rather than seek the ideal perfection of a Holy Grail Wish), we become better able to understand her decisions. *Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Unlimited Blade Works, et al. ------------------------------------------------------------- AN: There, look at what you've all made me do. You crazy people. Also, I'm neither an Economist nor an expert on Fate lore, so I accept no blame for this being an illogical pile of absolute BS. We all knew that going in. I was planning to write up a section called 'Love Triangles as Symbolism for Competing Economic Social Systems', but it's 3am here, so I won't. I also didn't comment on all that 'Saberface' stuff, but that's because I know practically nothing about the 10 billion variations of Saber. If somebody wants to actually continue this, be my guest. I have no idea what my work ethic will be like in the morning. [Perk Activation: Sloth!] ....Seriously, feel free.

The Symbology Of Saber In Economics (Or: I Really, Really, Hate Things Like Macroeconomics. Yorokobe, TehChron, frozenchicken, and Neroj. Feel free to critique, this is a half-assed attempt in between my analysis of the MotSR world, and developing my own quest idea.) One could put Saber into one of two possibilities: Keynesian economics, and a pure representation of capitalism. Let's begin with the Keynesian aspect. The ideal of Keynes is a planned economy, that "spends against the wind." Okay, let's break it down. This great plan, hatched by Uther Pendragon and Merlin, try to create something amazing, which is a symbol for the planners like those of Keynesian economics. And Keynes, for a large part, works in times of war, which basically is King Arthur's entire reign. The people unite, things go along to rationing and planning. In times of economic downturn, Keynes says to spend more and more, and to go into debt, which is a little similar to how Saber had to drain the resources of a village to go to war. And in times of economic surplus, one raises taxes and then pays those debts off, which shows in the prosperity of Camelot before it fell. In the perfect ideal of Keynes, also known as "Saber Lily," Keynes works perfectly, with it being a utopian ideal that whenever things go wrong, the government will intervene. On the other hand, Hayek in "The Journey To Serfdom," envisions that this so-called planned economy will fail, and sets the ground for the total corruption of Keynes' ideas, which finally takes the form of in terms of TYPE-MOON as the inversion of Saber: Saber Alter. In between the range of Saber Lily to Saber Alter, from Mysterious Heroine X, to Saber Lion, to Nero, would be the variability of how Keynes' ideas actually worked out in the long run. Secondly, one could look at Saber, and at an extension of her, Camelot, through the lens of free-market capitalism. Saber begins at her journey, and has a really successful start: pulling the Sword of Owed Victory, Caliburn, out of the stone. However, this is really the beginning of a bubble, as she can no longer be a normal person, but rather has to be a king, which is exacerbated by how so many people put faith into her (a false representation at that, as they believed for her to be a male, and put a false set of expectations upon Arturia, putting an enormous task that she, and most of her counterparts, were doomed to failure), and put some truly significant investments into a stock that was higher-valued than its true value (such as Guinevere. And look at how that turned out.) For the longest while though, just like the post-World War I American economy, Saber, buoyed by support from so many, managed to get through the countless wars and competition. However, like all bubbles must eventually do, they burst. And the indicator for this was the eventual plateau of Camelot and Merlin (a vital investor/co-founder) leaving for better pastures (woman troubles.) Then came the confrontation by Mordred, who took so many of her knights (investors) away, leading to a civil war (Black Tuesday and the Great Depression.) Which all went to hell, leading to Arturia making a deal with Alaya (a government bailout), which as we all know, generally fails (Hoover, am I right? And really, Roosevelt as well, because it was the Second World War that revived the American Economy), which leads to a major conflict (Holy Grail War=World Wars. You could fit an enormous amount of connections and parallels here, especially how the Fourth is similar the the First World War, and the Fifth is similar to the Second World War) in order to rejuvenate our stocks (Saber) through the major investments and turnarounds (the Wishes), which usually are misused, and we head back to a depression after a peak (Angra Mainyu and the Corrupted Grail.) This continues on ad infinitum, with the hope that things will be better for the individual, similar to the Fate Route (that one quote I forgot where they say something along the lines that one has to seek forever, and the other will have to wait forever. Halp Bludflag), and maybe, it will work out, similar to the Avalon Bonus Episode: "Welcome back, Shirou."
Raguna Blade said:
Hm. Maybe? Although there's another pretty obvious bit in play here. As far as systems go I can't say but well... Ilya represents Old Money. Like Flat out. Her family is wealthy, one of the ancient and old magus families, they're the ones who functionally MADE the grail wars and the systems that everyone has to deal with, or at least has lived through their transitions, and compared to everyone else, they have a flat overwhelming advantage that simply cannot be surmounted by playing the game as it's supposed to be done. If, as the Grail Wars was supposed to be (basically a big ole tournament of heroic spirits fighting each other) went to plan, basically nobody in the running has a chance at victory. Ignoring Girugamesh for a second here, nobody else was remotely in Hercs range. Flat out, his ass SHOULD have won. And had things functioned as intended, had the other players not basically gone out of their way to get around it, he would have smashed them to pieces. Which, well, is actually a lot how it works with old money anyways. When you have the best education, the best tools, the money, the connections, and all that, it takes something coming from out of left field entirely or a variety of smaller systems and groups rising up to actually topple that power. Now of course I don't know the actual status of the Einzburn family's wealth and a quick wiki walk shows me little to say their exact financial standings, but it has been made clear that as of present the head of the family is basically sinking everything they have into making damn sure that they win the grail war. That is, they want to continue to win the system that they created/had a hand in creating for as long as possible and...Well, past acts in the Grail War Series has proven them to be kind of breaking down. Their attempts to game the system fail spectacularly (See that Whole Avenger thing) and functionally spells their doom down the line as the blow back from basically breaking the system they created keeps coming back to haunt them (Mud of the Grail My guys), while attempts to hire an outside agitator ultimately proves to be damnably effective, in giving the reigns to someone who they do not have perfect control over, it also further destabilizes their control over the system that they are inherently tied to. In fact, let's talk about Mr The Ends Have to Justify The Means for A second, Since he is, in fact, Our Girl Ilya's Old man. At least, as far as it goes with alchemic golemy nonsense. Not quite sure about the blood lines there. But we see him, and Kiritsugu is unquestionably an outsider to the system the Einzburn's have up and running. Oh yes, he is a magus, no doubt, but in the view of this, His family is fallen disgraced and can't claim old money status because well...Dudes poor as shit. Relatively. But the thing is, due to his nature as an outsider, because he's taken the time to grow up outside of the system, to develop and learn things in it, he comes to a very specific view of the world. What it represents in an economic sense isn't important for this here, but the important thing is that because of this, and then later training he acquired in order to pass through the world that he was an outsider of, He was better able to navigate in ways that others in the system simply couldn't conceive of. This of course lead to his ASTOUNDING success at the 4th Grail War, but because again he was fundamentally an outsider, he saw how clearly the system was broken by the time he won and had a choice in the matter. The System can't support itself anylonger, not in the way that it exists presently. It can only be destroyed, and built upon. So what's this to do with Ilya? Well, again, Ilya is Old Money. She has the resources, the connections, the education, the knowledge all that. She can do a tremendous amount. She can, in fact, just about grant the wish of any given person she wishes given those connections. I mean hell, she's literally the Holy Grail. She's literally the system she's built to work within. And as such, compared to the Einzburn Family as a whole, she has unparalleled power to shift control and ultimately destroy the system as she see's fit. And ultimately, in every single route she is dead or dying. Fate See's the system crumble around her, leaving her functionally on life support. Unlimited BLade Works See's the system Kill her itself for it's self (as repped by the glorious golden boy himself), before ultimately self destructing anyway. But Heavens Feel? Well, that's about the only route she has Agency as Grail-chan, and in here we see her, as far as true route's go, Sacrifice herself for Shirou, Underpaid Everyman with Anarchic Leanings. The system is breaking down and dying, and rather than let everything collapse into the rubble and close off any kind of hope for the future (such as it were) she gave a part of herself to those who most wish to abandon what ultimately proved to be a failure of a system, effectively trusting them with the power and resources and such to go forth and create a better tomorrow and all that. Alternatively, It's the Old Money using their powers for good, fostering the growth of a new system that will inevitably replace it down the line, given her existence as a opposite to the Grail that Sakura Represents. Which, Just for the moment, As Black And White Grails, the two play off each other interestingly in that the Matous Are ALSO old money with deep ties to the system. But where Black Grail Sakura could probably be described as Old Money lording it's power around to ill effects, Ilya would essentially be the opposite. Of course, that is a bit beyond what I'm able to play with here.

Okay, first off, someone compile the shitposts about Rin and distill it into something coherent. It is literally that easy, and I'm way too exhausted to do that right now. I think what you're going with here is that Sakura symbolizes those that are under the "capitalist boot" that look to communism as a better alternative, like how Sakura is hot for Shirou. And Shirou is definitely a communist, wanting to save everyone and all that. Actually, the Emiyas could represent the parts of Asia that turned to communism (spits to the side). Norikata Emiya, who went all in towards the pursuit of advancing himself (actually, most hardcore magi) would fit the bad part of free-market capitalism. Such as the big corporations stepping over the people, oil companies and factories polluting the earth, etc., he and ruthless magi represent those who cast others down for their goals of greed and similar actions. And he gets shot by his son after screwing things up royally. Make of that what you will. Now, I'm going to only talk about Natalia, Kiritsugu's sensei, briefly. I'm going to put her as the original capitalists that turned to communism. She has a Russian name, after all. So she represents Russia, who then taught Kiritsugu (other to-be communist states), all she knew (communism/Marxism). And then Kiritsugu has that dream/ideal of being a superhero, to save everyone (haha definitely communism there), which then, after Natalia's death (the reality of a communist state after the "glorious revolution"), turns him into a ruthless machine (Lenin in his first decade or so). However, after taking a job from a third party to win the Fourth Holy Grail War (World War II connection), he meets Irisviel and fathers Illya, significantly mellowing him out (New Economic Policy). At the end, however, the true vision of his dream (the failures of communism: Stalin. Great Leap Forward. Five Year Plans. et al.) is shown to be horrific, which then forces him to cast aside his dream. Then he passes down the ideal of his dream to Shirou. I think basically anyone could make an easy amount of connections between Shirou Emiya and communism. He wants to save the world. He fights against Gilgamesh (the 1% bourgeoisie lording over the poor proletariat), Kirei (the cruel rich finding joy in abusing the poor and others), and Dark Sakura (dark side of capitalism incarnate). He is the "imitation that surpasses the original" (refined "communism" that China, Vietnam, and others have that have outlasted Soviet Russia, the OG communist state, which could technically be Gilgamesh in the sense of being the "original," Natalia on account of being Russian, and Kiritsugu who passed the dream down). He creates an infinite amount of swords with his Reality Marble which then he distributes for the "greater good." And of course: Shirou's inherently self destructive unless something happens to change him. Archer anybody? Edit: I'm done with economic analysis for today. Need to get some rest for the next exams.

Okay, okay, how do I sound smart when I know nothing about economics... Uh... Well, the thing about Shinji is that he is, as per canon, actually rather knowledgeable about the theory behind Magecraft, He's just utterly incapable of using it. And his main reason for hating Sakura isn't that she can Magecraft, but that Sakura pitied him for it. He hated that. So, uh... I give up, I don't know economics. Maybe he represents something to do with putting in a lot of effort but not having anything to start with and might be commentary on how being born without advantages is nigh impossible a goal to overcome? I don't know, I don't economics, I should really just shut up before I say something objectively wrong and stupid-sounding. ...Actually, that's never stopped me before. Shinji's backstory friendship with Shirou is symbolic of how those who are disadvantaged in the system may embrace anarchism because the current system isn't working for them, and the two of them stopped being friends when Shirou found out Shinji hit Sakura, which is symbolic of... ...Something... Abusing flaws in a system to progress when the system itself isn't working for them? Criminal activity when legit methods don't work for them I don't know, I'm blanking on how to pretend I know what I'm talking about without getting political and even I refuse to touch the cancer known as politics. Maybe the relationship between Shinji and Sakura can be vaguely considered to be charity? Shinji doesn't care about Sakura, just the benefits he can get from her, but as soon as Shinji starts seeking too much from Sakura she cuts him off. By killing him. Yeah, if I keep following this train of thought I'm going to end up concluding that Sakura's killing Shinji is evidence that capitalism will eventually lead to The Purge so I'm gonna wait until someone else uses something I tossed around here in a way that makes sense and then I'll claim credit.

The Economic Simulationism of the Fate Franchise Part 1-Economic Mechanisms Many compliments have been offered to Nasu for the depth of his worldbuilding, but very few discuss the blatant economic commentary hidden within his works. In particular, the Masters and Servants of the 5th Holy Grail War are each distinct commentaries on various Economic mechanisms and social systems.
Part 2- Love Triangles as a Symbol of Competing Economic Models Whilst Financial mechanisms can greatly influence the Global Economy, they are all ultimately subordinate to the various social and Economic systems championed by various nations. This is displayed most clearly in the form of the Masters of the Holy Grail War, particularly Shirou and his assorted romantic interests. Spoiler: Advertising and PR is an important part of the Capitalist System
Tohsaka Rin is perhaps the simplest of the Masters to classify, as her connection to the Capitalist Model has many facets. She is an ambitious young Mage, who desires to work hard in the Holy Grail War so as to achieve success. This expresses itself as desire for a Wish, but also a desire to obtain the Wealth her family once had. Indeed, Nasu makes her connection to finance even more obvious by literally using valuable jewels to store and empower her magic. Moreover, her Capitalistic Philosophy is displayed by the way she not only uses her own efforts, but suborns other Economic systems and models into alliance with herself, and as seen in the UBW Route she even purchases The Means of Production (Saber) for herself and rides her accumulating asset-derived wealth to a successful circumstance. It is perhaps easy to think of Rin as having an unkind philosophy, but it is eventually shown that her pragmatic outlook is simply a way of creating a stable platform of success that she can use to enact her desired philanthropies. Spoiler: Anarchism as an Adaptively Symbiotic Social Construct
The character of Shirou began as a blank protagonist in the F/SN visual novel, who progressed into an Amnesiac anime protagonist with many love interests, multiple established 'Routes' of development and the ability to copy the weapons of others. It is therefore no surprise to say he represents a sort of Symbiotic Anarchy, that is extremely flexible, born from rejection of the ideals of previous systems (as represented by The Revolution), and yet willing to ally with other Economic systems that he believes will align well with him. Though his Anarchistic Philosophy is lacking obvious markers of a particular Economic Policy, he does maintain a clear ideological philosophy that represents itself as a rejection of the unphilanthropic mechanisms of the systems of the past, which is also displayed by an initial fondness for the philanthropic basis of Socialism (Sakura). However, as events continue, he finds himself strongly connected to the will of the People (Saber) and eventually comes into a symbiotic alliance with Rin (Anarcho-Capitalism). One of Shirou's best traits is his adaptability, as he later gains the ability to copy the Economic Mechanisms of other systems. However, he must be careful with his development lest he end up as something he despises (as symbolised by Archer). Spoiler: The Pitfalls of an Idealised Philanthropic EconomyTo build on the earlier analysis, the kind-hearted Sakura initially represents Socialism, and the worms within her are a metaphor for how such centralised power attracts corrupt interests who seek to gain control of everything. The routes where Shinji takes over show one vision of how this can end, as a decadent and corrupt Communist governmental system that replaces her, and exploits the efforts of the past, with his extreme incompetence symbolising the degradation of the state until an eventual collapse. Dark Sakura is the other end of the situation, where the self-interested powers seize control of the state mechanisms, maintaining a coherent Facist government at the cost of perverting the kind-natured original designs of the economic system. Spoiler: The Idealised Economy as represented by a Magical Girl
Illya represents the dream of a post-scarcity economy. She is artificial, shares a parent with Anarchism, her unaging youth shows just how far we are away from achieving that dream, and (much like Sakura) her potential as a Grail Vessel shows the hopeful, dream-like nature of their systems and how they are vulnerable to degradation/corruption. Herakles (and his 12 Labours) symbolises the impossible difficulties involved in achieving such a dream, but also the impossible strength of such a system if it were actually achieved. (Continued in the next post, as SB has an Image Limit).

Part 3- Economic Analysis and The People Economic Systems of the Past Spoiler: Rejection of the Old and the Revolutions that followWe can see that Natalia rejects the old systems and turns away from them, but it is Kiritsugu who is the most interesting representation of this aspect, as he is The Revolution. He enlists the help of the Masses (as represented by Saber), and then proceeds to destroy all the existing power structures. His path is bloody and destructive, he fails to achieve his goals and in the end his victory only ends in disillusionment as he destroys the unrealistic hopes presented by the Holy Grail. However, in the wake of his passing, two new philosophies, Shirou (Anarchism) and Illya (Post-Scarcity) come to be. Spoiler: The limitations of Theory when contrasted against Pragmatism
The final aspect of Fate to be analysed is The Holy Grail, which represents the Grand Theories of Economists, with each wish being an idealised end state of various economic models-and the cursed nature shows they all eventually fail to predict how human agency alters events, causing the models to go off-track. Shirou (Anarchism) does not have a specific Wish in mind, but may react in a manner determined by circumstance. Saber has multiple desires, that may include allying herself to other economic systems, seeking a perfect state for capitalism to operate by, or perhaps even rejecting the truth of trickle-down economics and attempting to remove the elitist mechanisms of the capitalist state-as represented by herself. All the manifestations of the Grail that interact with a member of the Matou family seem to end badly for them, and though an ideal state could be found, most have given up hope of that. Special Thanks to Raguna, Blue Helix, Last Sanction and also to Karugus for coming up with that 'Invisible Hand' line. Oh, and also Mortifier whose lengthy contribution ended up...well, it's quality, not quantity that matters, right?

A fic where Kross has a nightmare and Raguna wakes him up
once again, im sorry all these are so late!
Rune Factory Ficlet
Kross/Raguna: Established Relationship
SFW
Kross’ dreams were haunted by faces. The faces of those he’d killed, the faces of those he couldn’t protect, and on the worse nights, the face of his mother, looking at him with a furrow in her brow, the way she looked when she was disappointed in him. She looked at him now, shaking her head as Kross stood among the bodies of too many soldiers.
“Is this how you imagined it would go?” she asked. Kross opened his mouth to speak, but found he had no voice. His breath came fast, a soundless sob as he tried to say something, anything, but his mother turned from him, walking away and he tried to follow. Something grasped at his legs, the bodies of the dead moving to hold him fast as he thrashed against them.
“Join us,” they sang. “Join us here.” His mother was gone. Kross screamed.
“Kross!” came a new voice, jolting him awake. “Kross, wake up!”
Raguna hovered over him as Kross’ eyes shot open. He couldn’t catch his breath, the feeling of cold fingers against his flesh still so real. Raguna cupped his face in his hands.
“It’s okay, it was just a dream,” he said. Kross nodded, swallowing hard. He tried to even his breathing, but the feeling of dread remained in him. Raguna scooted closer to him, taking him in his arms. Kross welcomed the contact, wrapping himself in Raguna’s embrace, laying his head on Raguna’s chest.
“I’ll be okay,” he whispered to Raguna. Raguna stroked his hair.
“Take all the time you need, okay?” he replied. Kross nodded, grasping at Raguna as though his life depended on it. They stayed that way for the rest of the night, laying together as the sun rose. Kross didn’t sleep.

I want the H (If its not too late rip)
Meme | 17. Any hug you choose! (Side Hug)
Raguna spent a lot of his free time in the Fugue Forest, if not to forage or interact with the creatures, then just to relax. It was in the middle of vast greenery and nature where he felt the most comfortable, and the forest was one of his favorite places to spend time whenever he didn’t have anything else to do.
The Goddess Pond was probably the most serene place in the forest, and it was there Raguna often found himself wandering to. Even though he had more of a belief in the Dragon Gods, he could still feel a magical presence in the area around the pond. A healing aura that seemed to envelope him with peace and warmth, like the loving embrace of a mother.
...Not that he knew how that felt.
When he visits the Goddess Pond this time around, he sees an unfamiliar woman kneeling near the edge of it. He didn’t know what exactly was wrong, but somehow she looked... tired. Maybe even hurt, and that fills him with concern.
So he approaches the downed girl, reaching down to help her off of the ground and into a standing position. But she was too weak to even stand, it seemed, so he wraps an arm around her for extra support.
“Hey. Are you alright?”

@snowbelled sent: 1. ( Hong Lu ), 5. ( Raguna ), 18. ( Diluc ) &. 13 ( Dogi )
1. Is your muse a romantic? Do they dream of love and marriage?
Yes, and no. It's difficult to describe and I'm basing my (current) portrayal of this facet around the bits of information I can gleam from Dream of the Red Chamber synopsis. There's a fleeting sense of interest in that aspect but Hong Lu's free-spiritedness at the same time creates obstacles from himself on any chances of pursuit.
Hong Lu is naive, curious, and also in a way innocent. Yet he does have an attractive air about him. He's handsome, well spoken, and very polite. Around his home estate as result he found himself in special relationships with many of the women around him. One of the danger tags given to him in Limbus is "bachelor". He's desirable.
Settling down with a future in mind, however, doesn't rank high on his priorities. When he's close with women it can be considered an innocent line between romantic and platonic. He finds an affection, but it's fleeting. As much as his family likely wishes he would work to impress and ensure future prosperity of the family he has preference to discover and learn, writing a poetry and embracing a more enlightening lifestyle over the strictness of his home. Or relationships.
5. Is your muse comfortable with public displays of affection?
Sure! Within reason, of course. But anything that wouldn't bring out scandalous rumors is welcomed by Raguna. Hand holding easy. But also hugging, kissing, and even some playful fleeting touches won't get the farmer upset. Too much and he'll be flustered. Not to mention a sudden wish to be away from public...
18. Does your muse like to be pinned down, or to pin their partner?
It wouldn't take more than a single encounter with Diluc in a casual setting to come to certain conclusions. He's dominant, and it's a correct assumption that he would like pinning down his partner. However, the man is.... flexible. Without properly realizing it himself. His encounters to date had him firmly in the dominant position.
That's to say he can be beaten. And it's not a bad idea to try. It will have some interesting results. Despite his behavior Diluc is still young and has oh so so much to learn.
13. Where is your muse most sensitive?
A counter question. Dogi's pretty beefed and toned up on his body, but finding the creases and curves in between the muscles is a surefire way to get some satisfying shudders and reactions out of him. That's a general rule that can be followed. As for where he's most sensitive....
Nipples.

monday was guna's birthday :: open
@kyriosc sent: She had finally managed to clean up after spending hours cleaning and cooking up a feast, keeping everything a secret (though she may have been painfully obvious). The final touch of a two layered cake as a centerpiece of the dining table amongst breads, cheeses, stews and such. No time to change out the apron and flour dusted skirt when the front door creaks open, she spins to face it with arms wide. "Raguna! Happy Birthday~!"
Through no small deliberation, Raguna in fact did not overwork himself today. Thanks in part to the lovely Matilda of course but also several other townsfolk. Outside of holidays and festivals, it may be the one day the people of Kardia don't thrust menial tasks on the gregacious farmer. It's almost unnerving that he was pushed to enjoy himself.
Still, Raguna had places to be and things to do that wouldn't wait for the birthday to be over. Which was just what Matilda apparently needed. Secreting herself in the kitchen and having her way with the various implements of the well stocked kitchen. More than just a plot for surprise was baking away.
Upon his return, the door opens to an assault on the senses. Smells were plenty, of savory food and seasoned dishes that had his mouth wetting. Warm bread that smelled so freshly baked you could taste the crisp crust on your tongue. The sight of each dish only enticed further, a full table that would take a great bit of work to clean. They may be eating from this for several days!
And of course, the sight of Matilda complete with her soft saccharine voice. She's a little messy, but if anything it just makes the moment more endearing. And real. Besides, that's not what is attention is on. Her smiling face and beaming gaze. She works so hard, and her efforts earn signs of appreciation immediately. How did he end up so lucky to end up with her? What twists of fate brought this beautiful, amazing woman who loved him so much into his life?
"I'm home."
Sighing to himself, Raguna shakes his head, and her outstretched arms quickly find their way around him once he's inside. He holds her in turn, a smooch delivered to each cheek, her forehead, and then her waiting lips. Yes, in fact, he does continue making it a point to keep them wanting for attention by kissing other parts of her face first. Sorry, but he enjoys that pouting expression now and then. The pay off tends to be worth it.
"So this is what you were up to today? Making all this food and that beautiful cake. You're amazing, Matilda. Thank you so much. I can't wait to eat. . ." And yet, he's conflicted. With the woman in his arms he's reluctant to let her go. There's a playfully frustrated sigh as he rubs his nose against hers. Another smoocha. "Why don't you walk me through everything you made? It all looks and smells delicious."
Breaking away from the embrace, Raguna takes his wife's hand in his, eager to hear more of her enthusiastic voice and watch her smiles.

@psychcdelica sent: A half-asleep Megumin shuffles her way toward Raguna, arms open wide before she falls into his embrace.
"Mmmfff..." And now she's fast asleep.
As he is often want to do, Raguna had been spending the last minutes of his evening reading in bed. Whatever mystery the intrepid protagonist was about to uncover would have to wait however. Luckily, the avid reader is able to catch Megumin's approach from the corner of his eye.
He scarce has enough time to thumb a corner, set the book aside and-- POMF.
"Oof! ...haha, ready to sleep, Megumin~?" There's no need to be upset, at least. Raguna's patient. And clearly his adorable girlfriend was ready to go to bed. There's a mrrp sound muffled by his chest, and another moment later he feels the breathing of sleep. "Wow. I think that might be a new record. But you had a busy day, didn't you?" A soft chuckle so as not to disturb her. Pets against her head. And then the blanket is pulled over them both. He'd be able to sleep like this himself. Easy.
"Good job today, Megumin. Goodnight."

@raguna-blade says: Maybe something to do with it all being a kind of play? All the act's and such, but actors acting in a play don't actually "eat" even though it's supposed to represent eating. By that logic, John eating somewhat foreshadows their existing outside the narrative (to an extent, maybe better to say the ability to exist outside the narrative?)
1. I’m ambivalent on the notion of characters existing outside of the narrative. My usual stance is that that’s a fantasy, since the text and imagery of Homestuck are literally the medium of their existence and they cease to exist outside its pages. I regard the idea of the story’s end being freedom with some suspicion, since that motif is often conflated with death. But by that logic, I’m not even allowed to treat heavily implied (but unseen!) events as real. Everything that was skipped over in the troll session is illusory, all that matters (all that is... canonical?) are the snapshot moments that are shown or described to us; the ‘little moment’ between Karkat and Terezi is a red herring, since in that which must be postulated is unreal, as is the unseen embrace (?) between Roxy and Calliope; and the fact that we never see Jade’s latent trauma becomes a definitive argument against it. So I clearly believe that things exist ‘outside the narrative’ because I believe in inference -- but then again, since all meaning is assembled by way of reference to the text, do those qualify as being outside or ‘beyond’ the narrative any more than inferring someone is sad without hearing the words “I’m sad”? So perhaps my beliefs aren’t so clear.
What is clear at least is that Homestuck can treat such structural gaps as positive elements -- this was the subject of the Jade/Kanaya post (x) from a while back, talking about how omissions were themselves a topic of the conversation, and how absence can be construed as an attack... The omission of the Roxy/Calliope moment follows from some motifs of silence discussed in Openbound, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the very fact that we never see the Karezi ‘moment’ is itself a bit of structural information within some more abstract message.
2. Another approach to the end I’ve seen is to regard the proliferation of fanfiction a freedom unto itself, against the tyranny of the Alpha Timeline, and its master/embodiment Lord English. In a metatextual framework, LE’s destruction of the dreambubbles could be read as a metaphor for the deleterious effects of canon (by some reckonings) on fanfiction -- I say this because a. the Furthest Ring is what lays beyond ‘the Medium’ (which could be construed as the story as we know it) and b. in Problem Sleuth, the gaze of eldritch horror emerged from the 4th wall, which PS elsewhere ties to ‘fans’ and the terrifying multicultural assembly that is the audience.
But if the gods of the Furthest Ring stand for the readers, what would that make Skaia? It doesn’t really feel like an author... should it be considered, from the Furthest Ring’s perspective, to be that which lies beyond the ‘wall’ of the Medium, much like how Caliborn construes meaning to be a prize locked behind a wall of text? Or since Skaia ‘sees and knows’ would it be the other self to whom the reader enviously aspires, one who has [knowledge] instead of lacking it? Or if you focus on Skaia’s creative capacity, Caliborn’s destructive envy of Calliope begins to resemble the dynamic between the Furthest Ring and Skaia itself? (Which would make LE’s destruction of the Furthest Ring all the more baffling?)
I am spitballing here
The notion of ectobiology as the Truth of reproduction in a ficticious Medium is bugging me... like how many bodily functions are being formally denied here. We established awhile back that Bec is Jade's fourth wall, and the way that she's blindfolded during her entry and aims through Bec kind of reflects that, but to generalize that would mean that everyone's pretty eyes are diegetically non-functional, everyone both blind and unable to close their eyes, because everyone actually sees through the fourth wall along with the watchful reader? Lil Cal's realistic eyes would be a curious joke in that case, but off the top of my head idk if the comic actually cares about this?? Though it feels potent that the omnipresent gaze of Bro double as Dave's own alienated eyes?
What am supposed to make of the act of eating in a story that's so adamant about the character's lack of interiority? I've seen people remark on how John biting open an apple reflects the taboo of dividing an indivisible Truth, but things are trending towards even John eating being a breach of irreality. Or even ignoring that, the association of cake and Life could be drawn to their improper presence in the gullets of puppet people. But all of this is dependent on evidence of the comic itself being self-conscious about the representational status of these particular subjects, and none really comes to mind... I guess besides the apple bite, first character in the story to actually eat is the Mayor, whose initial shtick is being 'unmediated' in various ways? Eg no fork for eating, no sylladex for picking things up...
Idk there's too many places to try the lens out and see if it holds, it might just be an attitude to carry into my next pass on the story, whenever that is. Annoying though
#i am in my comfort zone when drawing material out of concrete excerpts#spinning around in the ether like this gets me dizzy....#homestuck commentary#edited: forgot to include link

I like to think about how, as a farm sim protag with all the skills Raguna can ‘master’ through tenacity and hard work... he starts everything out from level 1. Everything. So all the tasks he takes upon himself that are unique he starts out just god fucking awful and fails repeatedly. On top of that, his failures very quickly exhaust him to the point of passing out-- this goes for smithing, cooking, tailoring, potion making... Rune Magic is weird like that.
So just imagine when he decided to pick up and learn to play instruments like the guitar...
He makes five (awful) attempts at a basic bitch chord with the easiest of fretting, then this fucker either passes the fuck out or destroys the guitar on accident.
#musings :: about#my second wind for enjoying raguna came when I decided to embrace every ridiculous facet#that makes up a farm sim protag#instead of making him 'realistic' with the skills he knows#so yeah he can do pretty much everything in every verse FUCK IT#this also means new skills start out awful#incredible fisherman#but you hand him a spear and tell him to poke a fish and he WILL#ABSOLUTELY#fall into the water on the first attempt

@mielmoto sent: drag me, bear father. (url meme)
my opinion on;
character in general: WHICH ONE? THIS ONE. It doesn’t matter because as has been said at length (and you properly embrace yourself) they’re all fantastic, diverse, and wonderful. There’s some overlaps as to be expected, but you do (you do!!) properly give each character their own space along the personality spectrums and give them their own peaks to stand on... we know who your zenith is of course.
Honey is one that snuck up on me, too. They were by comparison relegated to a side muse on the multi that blog once was, and you could say I was taken off guard by how much hid behind the sugary glaze as it were. Never the less she’s a great foil to some of the others, and her off the cuff and from the hip energy a fun little change of pace.
how they play them: Flawlessly. Next question?

You’re just as fun in person as I anticipated you would be, and even if I can only keep up so much with social doings I really hope you enjoyed spending some time with my wife and I as well. I hope you get that job on this side of the country, because it’d be great to see you a little more often than, y’know, once every half a decade.
You’ve been through a lot, and you hit a lot of bumps, Bird, but as someone who’s been watching for awhile I know you’re the kind of person who’s strong enough to get through. You are far too stubborn to let anything stop you.
