My best friend asked me if I’d be willing to draw his character for Glatiators, so here’s Verus! He’s an embodied mouther and a wicked cool dude! Funnily enough, I actually follow the stage-by-stage clothing process with all of my character designs, but this is the first time its been appropriate to show the nekkid editions lol.
Drawn November 2022.

Deity Drop 6: Abhoth
Just as we did when be touched on Great Old Ones in a previous deity special, we are heading back to cosmic horror with our first Outer God.
But what exactly is an Outer God and how does it differ from a Great Old One? Well, a Great Old One is a demigod-level entity that has a body that can be noticeably affected by it’s mortal environs, and for all their defying of sane physics and geometry, it is possible for a mortal to fight back against such an entity and with a little luck “kill” it, forcing it into torpor or at least making it decide that being there is not worth the annoyance.
An Outer God, on the other hand, is a true deity, albeit an unknowable one that doesn’t even try, or perhaps is incapable of understanding why one would try and take a form comprehensible to the majority of mortals.
Like the Great Old Ones though, most of these entities cannot be bothered to even notice mortals, their cults often calling upon deaf ears, with only a rare few ever being granted power, perhaps as an afterthought or even without the deity realizing. While some may have specific malevolent designs, most seem content to stew in their own incomprehensibleness with no real plan beyond just existing in a way that mortals strain to understand, seeming to embody the belief that the universe is truly uncaring.
Abhoth himself is the “Source of Uncleaness”, a monstrous parent figure to all manner of horrors. His children ranging from just as formless as himself to ambulatory limbs, to surprisingly complex entities both fully formed and malformed. Most are immediately seized and consumed by him, but some escape to wander away, wandering the extradimensional tunnels of his realm until they find their way into the underground of other worlds. That’s right, many true-breeding aberrations in Pathfinder, including the classic gibbering mouther, are descended from this foul god!
All of this reflects his nature as patron of the misbegotten, an avatar of life gone wrong in violation of every natural order.
Abhoth himself is described as having a twisted and cynical personality, seeing no beauty in the world and seeking only to add cruelty to it.
This outer god is originally from Clark Ashton Smith’s Hyperborean Cycle of short stories, where he made the jump to the Call of Cthulhu and other such RPGs and then on to Pathfinder.
Though the original source describes him as grey in color, Abhoth’s art in Pathfinder paints him as a bright light (possibly glowing) blue. This may have been to help distinguish him from another cosmic horror staple in the game, the shoggoth. Indeed, for like many formless horrors, Abhoth’s only defining feature is his formlessness and tendency to form and reform various random body parts from his mass seemingly at random with varying degrees of recognizability.
While it is not given a name in Pathfinder, Abhoth’s grotto is connected to many different underground realms across various planets, and his realm itself is a maze of tunnels that he wanders through aimlessly as the spawn that survive his hunger.
As a god of fecundity, I can see some twisted remote culture venerating the Source of Uncleaness as a fertility deity, or perhaps warded against with the hope that children are born whole and fully formed. However, those that delve into his monstrous true nature may come to believe that his formlessness and cruelty are the truest expression of life, and get up to the usual nasty cult business of trying to summon him, or more likely, some of his children, and generally venerate all manner of unnatural life forms, often to the detriment of their health.
As a particularly cynical outer god, Abhoth counts none among his friends, not even his own children.
He also lacks servants in the traditional sense, being directly served by no one. However, he is able to see many worlds through the eyes of his spawn, and may even invade such a world through them on a lark.
Abhoth favors the domains of Chaos, Darkness, Earth, Madness, and Strength, with the subdomains of Caves, Ferocity, Insanity, Night, Nightmare, and Resolve. All of which reflects his cruel but not overtly malevolent demeanor, as well as his connection to caves, physical might and the horror of his own existence.
While a handful of Outer Gods have been written up in 2e, Abhoth has not gotten that treatment yet, so no list of his domains exist there yet.
Like all cosmic horror gods, Abhoth is too uncaring to offer any rewards of obedience.
With all sorts of horrors found in the depths of countless planets, you can bet your buns that Abhoth is definitely still out there in the far future of Starfinder, even if he hasn’t been officially mentioned yet.
That does it today, and yes, Abhoth’s story did inspire the demon lord Jubilex, but we’ll talk about how Pathfinder sometimes doubles up on certain deific concepts some other time. For now, eagerly await the final deity we’ll be covering this week, the first non-evil one we’ve had in a while!

Nascent Demon Lord, Dalmosh
Tumblr media
“Dalmosh” © Wizards of the Coast, by Izzy. Accessed at the Monster Manual V Art Gallery here
[Commissioned by @annotaremonstrorum, who wanted a version of Dalmosh from MMV as a nascent demon lord. Their ideas for developing Dalmosh’s cult were very good, and incorporated fully into this entry. The original was a CR 17 with more than 400 hit points and an AC of 13. It felt like a very purposeful experiment with tweaking the hp/CR ratio, and I wonder how it actually worked in play. My guess is not great. I also gave him the dispelling slam ability so he could have at least a chance to pull his signature swallow whole on a high level character.]
Nascent Demon Lord, Dalmosh CR 21 CE Outsider (extraplanar) This massive fleshy creature appears as a boneless parody of the human form. Its legs are columns of swaying meat, its arms overlong with swollen fists, its head conical and asymmetric. It has a gaping maw with blunt teeth, and covering its bodies are sealed fissures disturbingly similar to both sutures and jaws.
Dalmosh The Eternal Hunger, The Walking Mountain Concerns hunger, destructive gluttony, living demiplanes Domains Chaos, Destruction, Evil, Strength Subdomains Catastrophe, Demon, Entropy, Ferocity Worshipers ogres, trolls, creatures trapped in the Gullet Minions dwiergeths, gibbering mouthers, piasa Unholy Symbol a closed fist with a mouth on its back Obedience eat another creature alive. Gain a +4 profane bonus on CMD to avoid being grappled Boons 1: bear’s endurance 2/day; 2: divine power 2/day; 3: extended hungry pit 2/day
Dalmosh the Eternal Hunger is a walking mountain of meat and teeth. His home is the Flesh Mountains, a range of Abyssal terrain spanning several layers that is itself faintly alive. Dalmosh wanders through these mountains, consuming all in his path and chewing himself a cave to hide in whenever he tires enough to rest. Almost everything is food to Dalmosh—animal, vegetable, mineral—although he seems to find unworked earth distasteful. Dalmosh is dull, brutal, and indiscriminately destructive, and he leaves sweeping arcs of ruin in his wake.
In combat, Dalmosh is simple and uncreative. He attacks whatever he can reach, attempting to swallow it whole. Creatures that elude his reach may be pelted with thrown debris, but after a few rounds he will ignore them in search of easier prey.  When struck, Dalmosh’s skin opens up into a set of temporary, but still deadly, jaws. His surface is covered in the scar tissue of previous such openings. Dalmosh has a keen sense of smell, and can be distracted by particularly aromatic morsels.
Any inanimate objects Dalmosh consumes, as well as creatures lucky or clever to fight their way there, are transported to the Gullet, a sprawling demiplane in the shape of a fleshy labyrinth. Gusts of foul wind, pools of acid and occasional meatquakes are terrain hazards here, but there are creatures that make a living in the Gullet. These are swallowed victims who either couldn’t escape through planar travel or simply chose not to, and there are even permanent settlements built in this moist, organic refuge. The largest of these is called Garnamastra, and it is ruled by a rakshasa calling himself the Eyeless Tyrant. It is said that the treasures of ancient realms and slain heroes are scattered throughout the Gullet, and some foolhardy adventurers have allowed Dalmosh to swallow them in order to go treasure hunting.
Despite his dim intellect and utter indifference to worship, Dalmosh has managed to gather enough of a cult following to empower him as a nascent demon lord. The dwiergeths consider him their progenitor, and some pipe a quick prayer to Dalmosh whenever they consume a particularly scrumptious morsel. Ogres, trolls and other evil giants view him as something of a figure to idolize and emulate, although they also view him as a bogeyman to scare their children with. Some particularly evil and crazy spellcasters see Dalmosh as an embodiement of planar paradoxes such as living planes and pocket dimensions, and use gate spells and offerings of rich food and unusual sacrifices to gain Dalmosh’s service as a living siege weapon.

Gluttonous Frenzy (Ex) As a full round action once per minute, Dalmosh can move up to his speed and make a bite attack against every creature he can reach along his movement. Nascent Demon Lord Traits (Ex/Su) Dalmosh is a powerful unique fiend with the following traits:
Immune to charm and compulsion effects, death effects, electricity, poison
Resist acid, cold and fire 30
Telepathy 300 ft.
Dalmosh’s natural weapons, as well as any weapons he wields, are treated as chaotic, epic and evil for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.
Dalmosh can grant spells and boons to worshipers as described in his cult entry above
Rejuvenation (Su) If Dalmosh is killed, he crumbles into rot and is reborn in the Flesh Mountains 2 days later. Dalmosh can only use this ability once per year; if slain again in that time, he is permanently killed. Spawn Maw (Su) Whenever Dalmosh takes 20 or more points of damage in a single attack, he can create a set of jaws as an immediate action from the wound. These jaws attack as secondary natural weapons and have a reach of 15 feet. If the creature that dealt that damage is within 15 feet, Dalmosh may make a secondary bite attack agains that opponent as part of the same action. Secondary maws created in this way remain for 1 hour. Swallow Whole (Ex/Su) A creature swallowed whole by Dalmosh can make its way to the Gullet with a successful DC 26 Escape Artist check or by dealing 20 points of damage while swallowed. A creature that travels to the Gullet in this way is deposited in that demiplane without further injury. If Dalmosh is subject to a dimensional anchor spell or a similar effect, this option is not available. If a swallowed creature cuts its way out of Dalmosh, Dalmosh can still use swallow whole immediately thereafter without penalty.

Are embodied mouthers an official race or are they just a popular homebrew? #dungeonsanddragons #dnd #d&d #embodiedmouther #embodiedmouthers #homebrew #fantasy #art #ttrpg #rpg #coolidea #awesome @dndroller https://www.instagram.com/p/B7j9n-1lD01/?igshid=vcsk1p38xi99

Let's try this...
Lurker above, piercer
Gas spore, yellow musk creeper
Mimic, trapper
Deathlock, demilich, burning bones
Dragons, dragonflies (BECMI), slaadi (even though they embody chaos)
Dragons (again), gorgons, behir
T-rex (at least in BECMI), purple worms
I forget the names, but Spelljammer has space whales and space dolphins, and the Spelljammer itself and the smalljammers resemble stingrays (and hammerships resemble hammerhead sharks, and dohwar are spacefaring, but non-flying penguins...). The 2e Fiend Folio had an aerial ray too, as well as the sull that looks like some kinds of jellyfish. And tojanida look like fish of *some* kind...
Ok, I'm stuck on this one. I probably don't know enough about illithids, or Ravenloft, or something. Gibbering mouthers aren't like this, oddly.
Drow are anti-elves. Death knights are better anti-paladins than blackguards ever were. And xag-ya and xeg-yi are defined almost entirely by being each other's opposites.
Beholders and astral dreadnoughts.
Verbeegs are just big humans. Dire wolves are just big wolves. Giant bombardier beetles do what they say on the tin. And then there are giant space hamsters...
Twelve essential categories of Dungeons & Dragons monster design:
Things that fall on you when you walk under them
Things that infect you with spores
Things that impersonate furniture and/or architecture
Things that used to be wizards until they sought forbidden knowledge and were cursed for their hubris
Things with several helpfully colour-coded variants
Things that shoot stuff out of their mouths
Things that swallow you whole and have specific rules for fighting them from inside their stomach
Things that resemble sea creatures but fly through the air
Things that absorb you and then your eyes and mouth appear on the monster and you become part of its evil hive mind
Things that are the opposite of other things
Things with a big gross eyeball that projects a directional antimagic field
Things that are regular things, except big

i’m pleased with how this turned out so it’s getting posted here
this is just a height chart for my dnd characters for my friend group’s deadly sin-themed campaigns. this is actually the first time most of these characters have been drawn in full body and it’s also s4lly’s first time getting drawn at all besides in headshots.
in order of appearance on the picture:
Uwuowo of the Striped Shells: NG Gastrosapien Druid (Circle of Dreams). in the Envy campaign (ongoing). sweet girl. her head’s in the clouds when it isn’t resting on a pillow. zoidberg-esque understanding of vertebrate anatomy but a genius when it comes to holistic healing.
Dietrich von Abendwald: NE Embodied Mouther Rogue (Arcane Trickster). will be used in the Gluttony campaign (not started yet). peak goth. hungry for human flesh. spends a lot of time brushing his teeth. hocks fake ids on the side. has committed over 1,000 crimes.
Casey “Case” Rueda: CN Human Warlock (Fiend Patron, Pact of the Blade). in the Greed campaign (concluded). suave hard-boiled gay detective. crackshot with a revolver. lost his original eyes in a bet with his patron. love to gamble, totally doesnt have a problem with that though, like seriously guys.
Serial Number S4L00798D0 "S4LLY" "Z3RO": LG Warforged Fighter (Arcane Archer). in the Wrath campaign (ongoing). dutiful servant of the party. avid googler. doesn’t have a great grasp on the whole emotion thing. talks to a cyborg rat that lives in their body (not pictured).
