I love love love talking about my stories but I’m also pretty afraid someone will see my stuff and like…take my ideas? :/ :/

I mean not that my stuff is so great that all the ideas are worth being stolen but what if they do and it’s better than what I can make. This is why I’ve been kind of cagey about describing the plot and the character arcs and stuff in Anomaly…

How do the rest of you guys deal with that?

why is it always, when I tell people about my progress on my novel, i’ll be like “I’ve written 93k words on my first draft!”

and then their response: “…uh, cool! How many pages is that?”

like??? Idk? Depends on the fucken font size? Page layout? Why is page number more tangible for some people to picture than word count?

sorry for the silence. been figuring out some writing stuff, as usual.

trying to decide if, for Anomaly, the first book in the series should be:

I start on book 2, which has arguably the more exciting plot but skips the very premise the story was built upon

I start on book 1, which has a weaker plot (or one I just haven't built much of yet?), but has the laboratory premise I started with

sigh. I'm sure if I keep at it the plot for book 1 will be just as exciting, but at the moment it is a slosh.

To “celebrate” (ugh) Jaith getting his own plotline in book 1 of Anomaly when he previously only appeared at the very end, here’s a pic of younger Jaith at the climactic moment of book 1, new arm and all. Thanks Jaith for the extra work! Thanks to you I’m outlining/writing three plotlines at once. You’re lucky you’re an interesting character.

This lighting definitely doesn’t make him look like a villain. Nope. Also eye glow or no eye glow?

It’s been a moment since I posted art. I’ve been really busy with writing. I hope to post more soon.

February Progress

Sorry I haven’t been posting much - I’ve just been super focused trying to get this first draft done! All of my goals ride on completing my first draft so I’m trying really hard to get it complete by the first quarter of 2024.

As you can see February had a bit of a slow start due to unforseen family issues cropping up, but it took off in no time. Looks like I got about 25k words written, which is only 5k less than January. Awesome!

Bad news is that my updates will continue to be slow until I get this done. I’m prioritizing ahead of all my other goals. The good news is that I just started Act 3 sooo we’re on the home stretch now! Yay! But it needs some outlining because it doesn’t have a satisfying ending yet…

Ups and downs but I’ll get through it. Okay March let’s go!!!!

been getting so much work done but Anomaly has changed a lot. So much. I have to redo my writer page introducing my WIP because my main character was renamed and another main character was added and now Jaith has a plotline in the first book where he didn’t before and wow so much to do okay back to work bye

last night I designed the concept for a new superhero - she's a member of the gang Solstice and her aesthetic is all about red, blood, healing, body systems, etc

super excited to draw her. her alias is Suture which sounds sick

First Exploratory Anomaly Draft Done

And I guess I wrote 100k words in three and a half months.

😱😳😵

Idk I guess when I have something cool to work on suddenly I can just…..churn it out like no one’s business like holy shit?? 100k words in 106 days - that’s pretty awesome?

But I’m definitely not done. I’m calling this the “exploratory first draft” because the ending arc isn’t satisfying and there are several plot points that don’t make sense, but the world is there and the characters are there!

Next steps:

Take a small break. I kind of did this weekend but should probably take some more time

Outline outline outline. I’m using KM Weiland’s Outlining Your Novel and Structuring Your Novel workbooks to help me

Do a drawing challenge; might be part of my break, we will see

Add new plot points to existing draft; I already have a couple in mind I can add

More Anomaly is on the way! I’m super proud of myself for finishing this milestone and I’m excited to see where this story will take me next.

HEY there, looks like I got a bunch of new followers recently! Hi welcome!

I wanted to give everyone a quick summary of my characters/art/WIP/whatever the hell I'm working on here

My WIP novel is called Anomaly. It is a novel about superheroes and it is set in a cyberpunk setting.

My characters -

Emeren; alias Ghost

Powers are super speed/reflexes

Emeren is the main character of Anomaly. During the laboratory arc which took place four years ago, he was the diplomatic leader of the lab anomalies, who were treated as experiments by the scientists. Disaster happened and four years later the above Emeren is the result; he's angry, seeking revenge, and is reckless and wild. He is also blindly loyal to Jaith, who rescued him.

Jaith; alias Helion

Powers are light manipulation

Jaith is the leader of the most powerful anomaly gang in Layer Comet, Solstice. Cunning, manipulative, and charismatic, Jaith is working toward a secret goal and isn't afraid to sacrifice others to make it happen.

Aleto; alias Dragonfly

Powers are 180 degree vision, bug-like wings, and air manipulation

Back in the laboratory four years ago, Aleto was mute, meek, and cowardly. It was Emeren who helped her through the stressful experiments. Now, after disaster struck, Aleto has taken over Emeren's role as the leader of the remaining lab anomalies, and she would do anything to protect what is left of her family.

Shraya; alias Berserker

Powers are super strength and retractable claws

Along with Emeren and Aleto, Shraya was another member of the laboratory anomalies. She is bold and reckless, but fiercely loyal to those she feels deserves it. She looks up to Aleto and admires the sacrifices she made to become the person she is today. Shraya and Aleto work together as vigilantes in the dangerous and volatile Layer Comet.

There are WAY more characters to introduce but these are the only ones whose designs are finalized. More coming soon :D

thinking about the romances in Anomaly

disclaimer: I really dislike writing romances. my writing is almost always fast-paced, dramatic, angsty, actiony. I usually find writing romances kind of cringey. if I do add a romance is usually an already established couple.

but there are a couple romances in Anomaly that really have a hold of me right now 😆🥰 like I didn't plan for them at all, I just thought about them as a couple one day and I realized it just. worked.

not sure I yet want to share the couples. I'll think about it.

any other non-romance writers surprised to discover there may be a sudden OTP in your own novel that just has a vicegrip on you?!
