She is this weeks Skelanimals Artist Spotlight and we are excited to see a little bit inside her brain with her sketches of her take on Kit & Skelanimals on hotel stationary.
S: You grew up in France and but have lived in California for awhile. Tell us what you miss about France and your favorite thing about LA!
I was born in Ajaccio, Corsica but my family moved to a town north of San Francisco when I was in grade school so I mostly grew up in California. I moved to Montpellier, France right after high school and planned on staying in Europe forever but then I came back to visit, fell in love with my husband and never left. I miss the centuries of ghosts that seem to wander the narrow streets in Montpellier, the scent that comes from bakeries when you walk home at dusk, and the endless Apéros (lounging and drinking on patios for hours). My favorite thing about LA is it’s secrets, it’s oases, and the undeniable magic in the air here. Also, the flowers everywhere.
S: You post a lot of drawings on instagram on Hotel tablets. Do your travels inspire your work?
I’ve had a love of hotels since I was a kid! Ever since I was a child I had a fixation on the stationary and would collect it. I like to paint on canvas or hotel stationary, something about it just feels right…I do love traveling, but most of the time I don’t even want to leave town, I just want to check in somewhere pretty and disappear among other travelers or escapists for a few days. I’m hugely moved by observing people and their relationships with the people and space around them and I like watching people interact in the environment that hotels provide. I like to draw upon what I saw for paintings especially when I’m working on pieces that represent those moments of beautiful solitude. Like the other day I stayed in Palm Springs for a night and this cute girl in a white daisy bathing suit was eating a chocolate sundae with whipped cream and cherries, under the stars, in the hot tub, with her eyes closed the whole time, and she seemed like the most content person in the universe. I hope one day i can paint her expression because it really moved me. Maybe I’ll see her again and she’ll sit for me. (That should be my first craigslist Missed Connection)
S: Besides being an amazing artist, you are also a costume designer. How did you get into that?
Thank you! When we were living in Austin I started styling shoots, editorials and videos here and there, and I loved creating characters with strong sartorial personalities. When we moved to Los Angeles I focused on it a lot but ultimately I realized that I enjoy drawing and painting more and that side of my life was being neglected, so I’ve kind of let that run it’s course. I’ll always love it but it’s not my “raison-d’etre”.
S: What are your favorite trends right now?
I’m loving this romantic 70’s revival right now because everything I love from Anita Pallenberg’s wardrobe seems to be suddenly easily available and its making my bank account weep. I also love the rich fall colors like the cranberry and wine reds, the midnight blues and emeralds and the caramel colors that seem to be taking over clothing this season. I love lush colors. Everything seems very romantic, which makes me happy.
S: What’s on the Horizon?
I’ve teamed up with the amazing Caroline Ryder (writer for NY times, Dazed and Confused etc) to do a graphic novel about a pink haired girl named Pansy who has some very interesting adventures. She has a genie who is Hunter S Thompson that she can’t get rid of and she genuinely finds beauty in everyone she meets…you can see it’s progress if you follow on Instagram!
S: What music is currently on your playlist?
Here’s my current rotation...
Cyrano De Berger’s Back- The Flesh Eaters
Can’t Sleep At Night- The Cigarettes
Let’s Elope- The Abigails
Rawhide Moon- Dan Sartain
My Precious- Soko
HA- HTRK
The Warden- Chelsea Wolfe
Entrance and Exits- Drab Majesty
Need You Tonight- INXS
Kill Myself- Il y a Volkswagen
Je M’en Vais- The Liminianas
Discrete Disguise- King Khan and the Gris Gris
Hymn No. 5- The Mighty Hannibal
S: What is your spirit animal?
A raccoon.. Nocturnal bear/cat creatures with a cool mask that outsmart their environment. I love them so much.

Love this little phone snap of yesterday!
Worked with my dream team Ax+Apple yesterday to style Jamie's new look-book for their INCREDIBLE new collection (www.axandapple.com) which Harvy Moon shot (great portraitist) and the lovely, stunning Jenna Russel modeled. We stayed true to Ax+Apple's desert spirit vibes by picking cozy, beautiful knits, aztec blankets and cowhides, and a wardrobe from For Love and Lemons! (thanks guys!)
Can't wait to see the finished product!!

don't know
I’ve found myself at an impasse. A deep swirling fog, seeping its uncertainty into my nose, my mouth, seeping into my hair like the ashy parliament aroma that remains from the cigarettes I try to not smoke… Yet they’re there, in between my index and middle finger, ever present, just like my heavy leeriness.
Uncertainty: It’s a necessary episode to have in one’s life, but to make it a long…
