Favorite ECU Pairing

Could be any movie he made even if he didn't end up with them by the end of it. It doesn't have to be out of the movies I posted pics of.

Out of the ones I reviewed, I actually really enjoy Tulsa x Lili from GI Blues and Rusty x Valerie from Girl Happy. Watching these couples naturally develop chemistry by having them go on a boat ride or sit in on a puppet show for children feel like things real couples do. It shows that love can be found anywhere even if you're not actively looking for it.

It was interesting to go through the list of songs and my personal #1 is That's All Right. Without that song being a mega hit, there possibly wouldn't even be an Elvis. That song helped put Sun Studios on the map and kick started Elvis' long career.

A 2nd good song that was recorded at Stax Studios is If You Talk in Your Sleep. What makes this stand out is that it was actually written by Red West in a collab with Johnny Christopher. It shows how Elvis would interpret a funky sound.

My 3rd song comes from Elvis' final #1 hit that was released when he was alive. "Way Down" was recorded right in his home. While having modest success after initial release, the song peaked at #1 on the US Billboard's Hot Country songs, the week he died. It was certified as a Platinum single in the US in 1999.

Elvis Top Three - Memphis Songs

Wow, it’s been a loooong time since I posted one of these! I’ve really missed hearing what everyone loves about their favorite songs. With the release of the new Memphis box set tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time to bring this back and ask everyone – What are your top three songs that Elvis recorded in Memphis? As always, there are no wrong answers, this is all out of love. ❤️

Here are my top three (at least for this moment):

Trying to Get to You – I know I’ve mentioned this on other top three posts, but this is one of my favorite songs period. I could listen to any version of this and instantly be in a better mood. The studio version he recorded at Sun is so sweet – you can hear the youthful exuberance in his voice. I also love that he really enjoyed coming back to it throughout his career. A friend recently shared the audio clip below with me, where he says it’s one of his favorite songs he ever recorded.

Any Day Now – This is one I keep coming back to, and somehow it just keeps getting better every time I listen to it. His voice in this era, with that soulful rasp, makes me feel some kind of way. His whole delivery on this song is perfection.

Danny Boy – This is one that was not on my radar too much in the past, but lately I’ve been obsessed with it. If anyone were to tell me he could no longer perform an amazing vocal in his later years, I would direct them to this song. The richness of his low tone, the ability to hit the higher notes, everything about this performance is just exquisite. His voice, coupled with the lyrics of the song, gives me chills. I like to think that all the love we give him is allowing him to rest so peacefully.

I know in my review I didn't have good things to say about this scene. But the song independent of the movie is amazing. It's so triumphant and if you only listen to this song without knowing what the movie is about you would think, "wow this character must've overcome so many obstacles. After all this hardship, he finally has a reason to hope." Like it's a beautiful message of hope that I feel is much needed in this world.

Here's 5...ok 6 of my favorite songs. They change from time to time, but there's still some old favorites sprinkled in. If there's some bands missing from here, in no way does it mean their songs aren't favorites of mine anymore - just really wanted to share some new ones that I've recently grown to love.

This ⬆️⬆️ absolutely has to top my list. 💙 Truly one of the most beautiful songs in every way. I've heard a couple different versions and love all of them.

I still have "Forever Blue" on a cassette that I bought in the 90's.

Another 90's tune. I'm not sure I've heard it until recently, but it's certainly catchy.

Hadn't heard this one in years - it's been too long! Such a fun early 80's tune to dance to. 💕

Finally watched the Elvis movie with Austin Butler over the summer. He's so captivating. And this is another number I love dancing to.

Last but definitely not least, this has been a favorite of mine forever. Everytime I hear those beginning piano chords, I just have to listen to this thing in its entirety.

This is the set of Tickle Me and you gotta wonder what Norman Taurog is saying that Elvis would look both shocked and disgusted.

This is from a 1956 show and should've been on all kinds of magazines saying "Elvis was possessed by the devil" because you can't even make out his pupils. His eyes looked like they rolled all the way back in his head.

I have no idea what the context is for this pic. I saw one source say this is from Double Trouble but I'm not sure about that. If anyone's able to find the story about this I'd love to hear it.

1. When did you first see the Elvis movie?

I’ll start:

1. Opening weekend June 2022

2. Eight times in the theater (would have gone more but didn’t have the chance) and at least 50 more at home.

3. I first saw it for two main reasons: one, I love Baz and I like to see his movies myself because I don’t trust reviews due to his haters and, two, because I’ve seen a lot of bad to mediocre impersonations of Elvis and I heard this “newcomer” was getting good buzz for his portrayal.

4. There are so so many but as I scroll through my own blog, I’d say my top three are @karamelcoveredolicity @troubleinapinksuit and @lindszeppelin But I’m so so grateful for everyone’s hard work.

5. I don’t read fanfic. I know. It’s weird to be on tumblr and not read fanfic. But I don’t.

6. Argh! Ok I’m going to base this on the 3 scenes where I genuinely couldn’t believe my eyes (there were many more but these are the three where I was genuinely confused if I was watching an actor or Elvis). First was Trouble, then Vegas Suspicious Minds, then Unchained Melody. I’m FORCING myself to stop there because otherwise I’ll just say the whole movie.

7. Well. Yes. This fandom was PURE joy for months and months and months. I suppose we were spoiled. I mean I know we were. We had a WIDE range of tastes, talents, proclivities, and even (affectionately) depravities. But we peacefully cohabitated through mutual respect, blocked tags, and unfollows. When awards season kicked in it attracted and amplified some of the more typical fandom elements like gossip and snark. That sucked and it was really hard to see. Some of the originators of this fandom were targeted or caught in the crossfire. Personally it caused me to withdraw some. But I simply re-curated my blog and content and I’m enjoying myself again. That’s the key: curate. Now that awards season is over I’m personally relieved. I honestly felt like Austin, who is by nature shy and humble, was no longer enjoying himself completely being in such a relentless and overhyped spotlight. I mean I’m sure he wouldn’t trade the experience — nor would I — but it’s exhausting. So he’s on vacation and my own blog has opened up to a broader indication of my interests. But I still post Austin/Elvis/movie content and I tag everything with Austin and/or Elvis so anyone can find me or movie specific content with those tags.

8. Always. I’ve made real friends here. I’m so grateful for the true care and affection I’ve felt from Joeykinz, @girlnairb @burninlovebutler @succsessions @ash-omalley @myheroelvispresley @slowsweetlove and so many more. I lurk and reblog and follow so many more. And I’m so grateful to my own followers. You’re all so lovely. I ain’t leaving.
