Fur-Bearing
Ever hear about those intrepid thieves of justice, who stole valuable fur coats from the richest, to then turn around the profits (from fencing) to give to the poorest? If what comes to mind is a befuddled image of a bunch of slightly bonkers Robin Hoods, who perpetrate outlandish fur heists all in a good cause, then welcome to Make Mine Mink, the subject of my newest Grand Old Movies post. The Gang of Fur here--Athene Seyler, Hattie Jacques, Elspeth Duxbury, and the great Terry-Thomas--are good-hearted amateurs, who’ve come to the conclusion that swiping mink stoles is the fun and profitable way to engage in philanthropy. It’s a daffy little British gem from 1960, done in the style of the great Ealing comedies, with a touch of the Carry On series’ goofiness added for good measure. Some jolly good carrying-ons, indeed.
