straight from SJM's mate dictionary
“And then it was dark. A different sort of dark than this place. But there was a ... thread,” I said. “A tether. And I yanked on it-ACOMAF page 179 (feysand)
But there was a thread between us, and I followed it—to where I knew his room was. I fumbled for the handle, then— More night and stars and wind poured out, my hair whipping around me, and I lifted an arm to shield my face as I edged into the room. “Rhysand.” ACOMAF page 333 (feysand)
Thread after thread of pure golden light flowed into him, and he met it with his own. Where those threads wove together, life glowed like starfire, and she had never seen anything more beautiful, felt anything more beautiful.-ACOSF page 503 (nessian)
Like you pulled on a thread tied to a rib-(elucien) ACOWAR page idk.
''Theres a bond-its a real thread''-(elucien)
If you dont wanna ship elucien go ahead i really dont care. Although there bond is not fake! Elriels answered the question show me your stupid without telling me your stupid and i didnt even ask! Anyways if elucien were not real mates its takes away your spechel ashpect for ewriel.

*sigh* i'm not sure why we're arguing over whether or not Nuala and Cerridwen are Elain's friends, but anyway this line exists:
"She scanned Elain from head to toe, wondering if she’d been taking lessons in stealth either from Azriel or the two half-wraiths she called friends."
this is not Nesta speculating whether or not the twins are Elain's friends. this is Nesta mentioning that Elain herself has called the twins her friends.
she also gave 5 people gifts on solstice: her sisters, Azriel, and the twins.
i'm not sure why this is even a debate. well, that's a lie, i do know. if Elain's friends are Azriel's spies, the other ships are basically dead in the water. it really feels like i'm walking into a kindergarten class when i log in and see what this fandom has gotten itself into.

Everything, Everywhere : Chapter One
Tumblr media
Chapter Summary: When he wakes up alone in bed, Azriel is left to consider the events of the night he'd spent with Elain as well as how they'd ended up in bed together in the first place.
Word Count: 2.8K
A/N: If you've been following along on my WIP Wednesdays, you'd know this fic is a long time coming. I am very nervous but very excited to start getting this out. Thank you to everyone that's been hyping up all the puzzle pieces I've shared over the past couple of months. The next chapter should be up next week if everything goes to plan.
ENJOY XX
Read on AO3
.............................
She’ll break your heart, Az.
It had started as a joke - a firm hand clasped on his shoulder as Rhys grimaced and told him to please, for the love of God, stay away from Elain when Azriel had quietly enquired about the middle Archeron sister after seeing her for the first time all those years ago.
Azriel wasn’t quite sure how it had come to be that he and Cassian had found themselves doing manual labor early on that Sunday morning when it was Rhys that had been trying to impress the father of his new girlfriend. Nevertheless, he’d ended up on the roof of an unfamiliar house, shirtless and sweating under the blistering morning sun as he helped Cassian fix a few broken tiles on the roof of the Archeron family home while Rhysand watched from the ground, shouting up instructions that Cassian and Azriel both chose to ignore.
He’d been mid eye-roll, watching his friend preen in the reflection of a window, twisting this way and that to flex the muscles in his abdomen just right when the gauzy curtains of the window they were stood in front of parted and Azriel caught his very first glimpse of Elain Archeron.
She’d stared at them in shock, bleary eyes widening slightly as her gaze flickered between the two men standing directly outside her bedroom window. Cassian, having met her already a few weeks ago, had given her a bright smile and a wave and then quickly disappeared, leaving Azriel standing still as night as he continued to stare at the girl staring back at him.
Those big brown eyes of hers had flickered down to his bare chest for a fleeting moment before they were back on his face. His own eyes had quickly traveled over her in turn. He catalogued the bare legs, the little white pajama bottoms that were dotted with what looked to be tiny roses just barely skimmed the very tops of her thighs. The thin white straps of the matching tank top were stark against her lightly tanned shoulders and her hair was a tousled crown of chestnut waves that framed her pretty face.
Azriel had only just remembered where he was, had only just realised that he was a stranger standing on a roof and staring into the bedroom of a girl who clearly had no idea that she’d be waking up to two idiots on her roof that morning. He’d only just come back to his senses enough to sheepishly raise his hand and wave to her when the curtains were yanked shut and all he could see was the shadow of her frantically ducking out of view.
She’d avoided him that entire day. Wouldn’t even look him in the eyes as they sat across the table from each other at lunch. Hadn’t said a single word to him other than a whispered thank you when he insisted on helping her clear the dining table. They were such limited interactions and yet Azriel hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her and couldn’t help himself when he nonchalantly brought her up as he drove Rhys and Cassian back to the apartment they had all shared at the time.
That had been the first time Rhys had delivered his warning but it certainly hadn’t been the last.
Rhys had said that she would break his heart but Azriel had always seen that comment for exactly what it was which was nothing less than a thinly veiled warning, a polite way of Rhys telling Azriel to stay away from his girlfriend’s sister as if she’d be the one to ruin him when they both knew what kind of track record Azriel had with women. It was Rhys’ roundabout way of letting him know that Elain was the type of girl with her head on her shoulders, the type of girl that preferred a steady relationship while Azriel had never had much interest in maintaining anything more than a rotation of regular, no strings attached acquaintances.
Azriel had laughed off the warning each time but it had stuck with him and he knew deep down that even though he’d never felt that sort of instant draw to someone else before, he’d never be good enough for Elain. Still, even armed with that knowledge that she was so far out of his league, he couldn’t bring himself to stay away and Azriel had inevitably found himself finding any excuse to be around Elain in those first few months.
It had all started innocently enough - timid looks and shy conversations in those early days when they found themselves spending more and more time together after it had become clear that Rhys and Feyre were in it for the long haul. That time had only increased after Nesta had finally broken down and admitted that she liked having Cassian around for more than just sex. Numbers were exchanged, casual hangouts were planned, and Elain had opened up to him slowly but surely - various facets of her personality unfurling as the months and years went by and she grew increasingly comfortable in his presence.
Rhys had continued to deliver that warning all the while -  each and every time he caught Azriel looking at Elain for a little too long, laughing a little too loud at her jokes. Each time the two of them snuck away for a drive or a walk around the garden for a moment of quiet amidst all the noise. All those times they’d stayed up together after everyone else had gone god knows where to do god knows what and Rhys would come downstairs early in the morning to see his friend fast asleep on the couch, the plush blanket Elain favored carefully draped and tucked around Azriel’s body.
Rhys had reminded him again, one last time, before he’d left the two of them alone together just last night but Azriel had waved him off just like he had every other time the warning had been delivered to him because he’d never expected to actually have to heed it. Not after all these years. Not when nothing had ever happened between them apart from a lingering hug or a kiss on the cheek. Not when Elain had always been with some boy or another the entire time he’d known her. Even though she spent at least a couple evenings of the week on a couch with Azriel, her feet in his lap as they caught up on their days.
She was his friend. One of his best friends. Elain had called him that a few times over the years and it had made his heart swell with boy joy and disappointment because while he’d never admit it, her choosing him in any way - deeming him her best friend - meant the world to him.
He was good friends with Feyre and he had a strong bond with Nesta built on a mutual understanding of their similar personalities, but Elain had been different from the beginning. That initial attraction of his towards Elain had morphed into something else entirely as he got to know her and then before he knew it, she’d become one of the most important people in his life.
It’s why he’d decided to sit down and make her that necklace just a few years into knowing her even though he’d never once before made a piece for a friend in all the years he’d been making and selling jewelry in his spare time.
Azriel had taken his time with that necklace, meticulously hammering out the gold until it was exactly the right shape. He’d carefully engraved a delicate rose into the front of the small pendant, fashioned after a picture she’d sent him of a rose that she’d grown. And then, because he was never able to help himself, he had added the tiniest ‘A’ to the back of the gold oval.
It had satisfied some small part of him to offer that necklace to her on her birthday. To know that something he’d made with his own two hands specifically for her would rest against her skin. He’d never forget the unfiltered joy that had spread across her entire face when she opened the box.  H’ed never forget how eagerly she’d turned and lifted her hair so that he could fasten the chain around her neck.
He’d certainly never forget the way she’d turned back towards him after he’d secured the clasp, one of her hands clutching the pendant while the other pressed gently against the side of his neck as she raised up on the tips of her toes to press a kiss to his cheek that was so different from any friendly kiss they’d exchanged as a greeting or a goodbye in the years before.
It was the first of those moments. The beginning of instances that were few and far between in which Azriel allowed himself to believe that maybe the affection he felt for her may actually be mutual.
There’d been a handful of those almosts over the years since that night of her birthday. Moments in which Azriel thought that Elain had wanted him to lean in, to kiss her. To take the hand that seemed to live in the space above her knee whenever they were sat next to each other and slide it higher up her thigh. There were times he wanted to stay back a little longer, follow her upstairs at the end of the night instead of heading back to his own home.
He’s caught her looking at him a time or ten. Saw the jealousy that lit in her eyes when one of his idiot friends thought it appropriate to bring up the girls he’d taken home over the years in casual conversation. Girls he never saw for more than a night or two every few weeks. Girls that never really even made it further than the couch in his living room if they even made it into his house to begin with.
It had never made sense to him, that quiet jealousy that radiated from her. Not when she had always been with someone in the time he’d known her. Although he certainly hadn’t missed that despite those boys that she kept around for a year or two before moving on to the next, it was always his necklace strung around her neck. Even when one of those boys had gifted her a pretty necklace dotted with tiny pearls as a Christmas gift, Azriel had been shamefully delighted that it had never even made it out of the jewelry box on her dressing table.
But because things never went quite right for him, all those stolen moments had come to an abrupt halt after Elain’s father had unexpectedly passed away a few months ago.
His calls and texts had all gone ignored for a few excruciating weeks after the funeral and he’d panicked one night after he couldn’t take the silence anymore, driving to her house only to find her kneeling in the garden and hastily pulling up weeds in the dark. Her hands had been covered in countless cuts and scrapes - some new, some already scarred over - an indication that it hadn’t been the first night she’d spent taking out her emotions in the garden.
Azriel had silently guided her inside, set her on the powder room counter and carefully cleaned and bandaged her wounds. When she’d finally broken the silence and whispered that she couldn’t bear to be in the house alone, Azriel had found himself sharing her bed and holding her close as she cried herself to sleep. It had continued like that for an entire fortnight, tears  gradually easing with each day that passed until one night she’d looked at him with something other than sadness in her eyes. He hadn’t known what to do when her fingers slid under his shirt, her lips hot against his neck. But she’d paused and pulled back at the exact second he opened his mouth and said her name in a questioning tone, turning her back to him and shuffling to the corner of the bed. It was a moment that ended just as quickly as it had started and while they hadn’t spoken of it since, Azriel had never forgotten.
He had each and every one of those touches and glances carefully stored away in the back of his mind. It was a never ending rolodex of examples of the way the line between them had slowly started to erode with time until only the faintest streak remained.
That line had been completely obliterated last night -  initially smudged when she’d walked into his house in a dress that clung to each and every curve in a way that made him want to bite his fist like a goddamn cartoon character and then it had been erased from existence a few hours later with the slightest press of her lips to the very corner of his mouth.
He certainly hadn’t expected the turn of events but it had all happened so seamlessly. It had all felt so right.
He’d been happy to see that line go, thrilled to fall asleep without a single thing between them - his arm slung heavily around her bare waist, her fingertips delicately tracing patterns over the sharp line of his jaw.
Azriel had awoken this morning with a small, satisfied smile on his face and the heady taste of her still lingering on his tongue. He reached across the bed, eyes still closed, fingertips seeking out the smooth skin that he’d memorized every inch of last night. His smile faltered when he came up empty - one eye peeking open only to find cold, crumpled sheets and an empty space where Elain should’ve been.
He shut his eyes, turning onto his back and pressing the heel of his palms tight against his eyes as he counted to sixty.
It was something he’d done as a child - squeezing his eyes shut as hard as he could stand as he counted a full minute in his head, desperately hoping and praying that the scars that covered his hands would disappear after the minute was up and he opened his eyes. But just like his scars had remained in place each and every time he deluded himself into believing that his trick would work, he hadn’t been able to use sheer will to make Elain appear safe and sound in his bed again.
Azriel knew immediately, without a shadow of doubt, that Elain had left. He knew how things had ended the last time things had gotten a little too intimate between them. That had only been a heated look at a vulnerable time in her life and it had sent her running off across the country so he dreaded to think what the events of last night would result in.
Still, he begrudgingly sat up and looked around for signs that maybe she hadn’t actually left. That maybe she’d just gone to the bathroom or that she was just downstairs making coffee and keeping his dog company. But his house was quiet. The only audible sounds were the subtle ticking of a clock and the soft howl of the winter wind as it rattled his bedroom windows.
He thought back, searching for signs that would explain her sudden disappearance. If it wasn’t for the light smears of dark red lipstick across his chest - his hips - he might’ve thought he’d dreamt the whole damn thing. But it hadn’t been a dream. She’d been here. In his bed. The intoxicating scent of her perfume still lingered on his sheets.
A sense of dread filled him as he considered that maybe he’d crossed a line, taken something that she hadn’t offered. But he knew that wasn’t right. All he could remember was the affirmative words, the sureness of her hands. The way she’d asked, begged him for more. The way she’d grasped at his skin, tugging him closer and closer until there wasn’t even a slip of empty space left in between them.
She’d wanted it. She’d wanted him. Just as much as he’d wanted her.
It’d been dangerous to get close to her to begin with, even just as friends. Letting her know him was a level of intimacy he usually avoided because it left him open to a world of hurt if things went south but he’d been too far gone last night to even chastise himself for the thoughts that were better suited to a teenage boy. Too distracted by the feel of her throat under his lips to wonder if it was a mistake to be touching her at all.
And now that they’d done everything they’d avoided all these years and he’d found himself alone with the sun shining bright in his room, highlighting the empty space beside him, he was afraid that maybe Rhysand had been right all along.

Finished the acotar books a year ago and all I wanna say is
Nesta is the best character and will always be famous.
I love the inner circle even if they have done some questionable things. It’s a fantasy world they do not have to live up to your modern day moralities.
Everyone of these characters could be morally grey and do things that morally grey characters typically do.
The Valkyries are my favorite found family and sjm peaked when she wrote their friendship.
The Gwynriel and Elucien book is going to make me so happy.
Cassian is a good person and is overhated largely in this fandom.
Nessian is my favorite fictional couple. They still have a lot of healing and growth to do together but that doesn’t make them bad. sjm took a more realistic approach at a relationship for them and people are thrown off by it. But it is clear they hold a lot of love for one another.
antis who want a fake nessian bond but are anti elriel for this reason will always be confusing to me.
Nesta is one of sjm’s best written characters. And she is way too overhated for the dumbest reasons.
Lucien is precious. I shall protect my preciousness.
Eris is a compelling character.
I love the books how they canonically are with some fanon mixed in. This doesn’t mean I have surface level thinking.
Some people take the books too seriously and make it more than what it is, sjm didn’t intend for this. Enjoy them how you wish but don’t make the fandom less enjoyable for others.

you elriels are actually the dumbest shits to exist in this fandom. stop spamming the elain tag with your posts, bc nothing you post is actually pro elain. Its annoying and nobody wants to read your long ass theories on how ewriel is actually true mates or whatever. find a hobby instead of pretending like you have any proof for your dying ship
Uh huh. Tell me again how wanting Elain to end up with the only other character she's shown interest for is not pro - Elain?
The proof is in the books. We wouldn't have endless posts if people would stop purposefully misinterpreting the text, and then using that as their evidence for a ship SJM has described as uncomfortable and awkward (Elucien) and one she hasn't even acknowledged or planted any seeds of romance between (the crackship).
SJM said it was obvious - and that's because it is.
Also maybe you should consider finding a hobby that doesn't involve stalking Elriel blogs and sending them hate messages for no reason 🤡

of all the stupid shit i’ve seen on reddit today with this weird fanart battle, “elriel can’t be endgame because all signs point to elain/luc*en” might be the fucking dumbest
what signs? where? are you in narnia? because we cannot be in the same universe atp if you think any sign outside of the mating bond points to them.

Plus if they have all the Elriel coded/foreshadowing for their ship they will surely use it too but because their ship lacks of everything they tend to focus on Elriels/Elriel and tries to debunk our theories and fun parallel while denying with whole heart on what's obvious.
Imagine if it's not "breads and roses" but "ribbons and shadows" they will surely scream it on every socmed lmao
saying elriels read between the lines to prove our ship when they are the ones tried to say their ship was gonna happen bc audiobook narrator stopped for a second when there was no elipsis in the book or taking cassian orgasming as a hint for their ship...I GOTTA LAUGH SORRY.

What was the absolutely WORST argument you had with an Eriel?
Great question anon,
It was a little over a month ago.
They had one of my tags and that pisses me off so I responded.
They had like a few points and I went through each one.
Then they came back with 10 different points disputing me while also asking ridiculous questions.
So I did the only sensible thing and poured myself a drink and went to it. I disputed every point they made with facts. But they kept flipping my words around and saying the same thing over and over.
It was excruciating.
Legend has it they're still asking me questions.
That wasn't exciting though. So I'll also tell you the dumbest argument I had.
An Elriel tried to tell me that Azriel giving Elain TT meant that they were bonded for life.
He did that for her and it created a soul bond.
I asked what they were smoking and if they would share. 😆

this is one of the dumbest posts i’ve read.
“i feel so sorry for them, because in order for e/riel to work, they need gwyn to be evil and manipulative, lucien has to be abusive, rhys has to be the worst brother and hates az, nesta has to be the most evil sister, and cassian has to be wrong in his every judgement.”
Tbh, we don’t actually need Gwyn in the next book at all. She isn’t going to forward the storyline. She may be like Fury from CC where we thought she’s going to be something more than Bryce’s friend and unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way.
Lucien needs to be abusive? I’m not sure what the hell that means. Lucien and Elain are both uncomfortable with each other. I don’t think abuse needs to be included for the bond to be rejected.
Rhys thinks he’s doing what’s right. He doesn’t know what Elain or Azriel’s feelings are. He just assumed Azriel wanted sex. I’m sure it’ll be cleared up in Elriel’s book.
Nesta, Feyre and Elain seemed happy with each other at the END of acosf.
As for Cassian, he seemed to lack some things especially when it came to the defense of Nesta. He wasn’t very mate like to me. I feel he could have stood up for her more. So his opinion on a black dress on Elain did very little to me.

Lets talk elucien. People love to stay that elucien are not mates because lucien can not hear her heart as she says she can hear his. They say that since azriel was dying the cauldron gave elain lucien instead of azriel and azriel is the one who hears Elains heart. Im snoring.
“But then she snapped your neck." Tears rolled down his face. "And I felt you die," he whispered. Tears were sliding down my own cheeks. "And this beautiful, wonderful thing that had come into my life, this gift from the Cauldron... It was gone." - Rhysand”
Feyre litteraly died and the cauldron did not give rhys a new mate.
Not to mention cassian was also heavily injured yet him and nesta remained mates. I also would like to state that rhys dreamt of feyre before they met and as did feyre of him. The mating bond was something you are born with. Feyre always loved the night sky and painted it and cassian before nesta was born had walked by death his whole life. We dont have any symbolism of elucien before meeting eachother but it could be the fact the she was always full of light even in dark times and so was lucien (he was trying to look at the brighter side in UTM) or that luciens real dad was apart of the day court. Or in their books we will get a more clear indication.
On to the heart beating.
Elains focus when she was a child was flowers and to travel the world. She didnt know/believe in the hidden world or the wall let alone mates and the feeling of it. Like nesta, i doubt she was interested.
After Elain was turned into high fae she was taken under safety along with Nesta in Rhysand's court in the house of wind. We all know that Elains state after that was horrible. She wouldnt leave her room and she would barely eat. Do you guys think rhysand or anyone else really came in and started to talk about the terms of mates? No. Hell no. Which leads me to my question for yall. How did elain know it was lucien? She specifically said , I can hear your heart. Do you seriously think she was that educated of fae that she knew it was the mating bond when you could hear ones heart?
NO!
👏 SHE👏 KNEW👏IT👏WAS👏LUCIEN👏
NOT TO MENTION! When lucien first visited her after hybern she asked , Who are you? And lucien thoughts said that she knew exactly who he was without being told so? How? Do you think someone barged in and told Elain all about lucien during that time? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Anyways elucien endgame.

Okay, so I've been pretty quiet on socials lately, but I'm pissed off. There are times like these where I wish I could be shocked by the audacity and behavior in the fandom, but today is not one of them because, once again, that a particularly gross sect of Elriels decided to fish for content on Ao3 to make fun of for their own jollies and likes.
Really? That's all you've got going on?
Also, psst... The fact that you immediately had such a visceral reaction to a title that you claim is yours is possibly the dumbest, most insecure thing I've ever heard. Because it's not only "Elriel" canon. But if you are going to be a bunch of whiny, pathetic twatwaffles, guess you should stop using "a thing of secret lovely beauty" in all of yours because that's technically necklace and Gwyn related canon since it wasn't about Elain at all. That's "ours." Should I go through every fic and comment and then post it to make fun of? Do you see how completely stupid and deranged that sounds?
You probably don't, but it is. Absolutely, completely unhinged.
Fuck me, a new year is about to begin and the SJM fandom is still, years later, dealing with these miserable sacks of crap. Jesus, find a better damn hobby than being just completely awful. 🤷 To them I say Happy New Year, pound sand, cry into your Franzia, and go fuck yourselves.

I’m sorry, but you ridicule and dismiss the Bryce and Azriel theory (which is your right, sure), but then make a post explaining how Elain and Azriel are ‘equal’ because they shared Truth Teller.
But, you are forgetting that Bryce literally has the twin weapon to Truth Teller. Bryce’s sword is the matching half to Azriel’s knife. They glow for each other. They are likened to “Alpha and Omega.” It doesn’t get more equal than that, and Elain’s temporary borrowing of the knife doesn’t even come close.
And for all the mocking and dismissing elriels do, no one has been able to offer an explanation as to why SJM has paired Azriel and Bryce in this way; considering that these weapons are not just for show, but are prophesied to be involved in uniting CC and ACOTAR (Starborn) fae. She didn’t have to, either. SJM could have kept the Starsword under Ruhn’s ownership, but she explicitly stated that the Starsword belongs to “Theia’s female heir”. SJM didn’t have to involve Azriel and his knife either; she could have chosen any one of the important weapons in the ACOTAR world, or any other character.
The only explanation I’ve seen is that Azriel and Bryce might be related; but what would that serve the narrative? What would that even achieve? And let’s not forget that SJM has already hinted at familial relations between Ruhn and Rhys - most likely through Ruhn’s mother’s side (with the shadow powers and mind speaking abilities), which has nothing to do with Bryce. I can’t see how Azriel would be connected to the Autumn King, or Ember Quinlan - a human.
And of course, the number one rebuttal to this theory is that Bryce and Hunt are mates. But the Oracle told Hunt to stay far away from Bryce; if they’re truly endgame, meant to live happily ever after, why would the Oracle then warn Hunt? And, if an Oracle told Azriel to stay away from Gwyn… you’d surely use that as proof in your own theories.
It was the swords that were paired, not the people.
Gwydion was brought up in ACOSF. So was Narben. The foundation was laid, and obviously Starsword has played a large role in CC.
There is nothing shared between Azriel and Bryce. It's the swords that are being brought together, not the people. Probably because of their connection to Dusk. Because we already know that Ruhn (Bryce's brother) has a Dusk/Avalon connection, as well as shadows, like Azriel. There is ALREADY a connection--clearly Ruhn looks exactly like Rhys, and Azriel carries a dagger that is a twin of a sword that Ruhn, as an Autumn King's Heir pulled out of the stone. They are obviously related?? How's that even a question.
The bigger story here is not Bryce and Azriel (?). It's probably the revival of Dusk Court that's been mentioned in 2 series now, and the story that we first sort of heard about it in ACOMAF/ACOWAR now was expanded in HOSAB.
It literally has NOTHING to do with Bryce and Azriel as a couple. It's all about unifying the two series over the Asteri, the missing Court, the Underworld/Hel, the backstories of the RIfts, etc.
Azriel sharing a MADE dagger with Elain of all people has very much everything to do with them as a couple. It was an action that he took, towards her, and then she took from him and made through it.
Gwydion and Truth Teller meeting is about the two swords meeting. They glowed in each other's presence.
Not Azriel and Bryce.
The oracle also told Ruhn that he wont have children and would be the last of the line. Does that mean he is going to drop dead? OR shoot blanks?
I am going to be honest--this is one of the dumbest 'theories' out there. Like in a pantheon of dumb theories Bryciel as a ship is next to Azris and Gwynriel. It ain't gonna happen. Sorry.

Thank you for letting me vent! These warships are draining. If I see a pro Elriel post, I just mind my business. I know I'm not going to change their mind, nor do I want to. They are free to ship whoever they please.
But I do see a silver lining in all this. Over the year's things have gotten worse for them and it's not looking promising. I believe that is why they are getting more aggressive. What I mean is, when they do get SJM's attention, it never goes in their favor. For example:
Breads and roses, they swore this was El/riel confirmatio, prior to release and well, it was NOT. But in her HOSAB interview, she explained she was thinking what would be a warm welcome for Bryce, who thought she was in hell. Nothing more.
Gwyn's age, another theory that blew up in their face. SJM's not only shut it down, her face said it all. It is still one of my fave interviews.
ACOSF, before it's release El/riels dedicated so many posts and theories firmly believing this would be it for them, because it made sense right? Elain was closest to Nesta, Azriel to Cassian. This was the perfect opportunity to set them up, but SJM went an entirely different direction, and the two characters with least presence were Elain and Lucien. Watching their melt down was fascinating on twitter when the book was out, especially when the Italians who got an advance release date were going on about the chemistry between Az and a priestess, this was before the bonus chapter was even available. So if these readers, who had no idea of the bonus could pick up those crumbs, says a-lot about who's reading comprehension is off. Also, it is well known a ton of Elriels only skimmed ACOSF, I've seen tweets saying they do not want to read a book with that b*tch Gwyn. Just because one refuses to read something, does not change the outcome.
And that bonus chapter, why did a certain big pro elriel account rewrite the chapter and deleted Gwyn's part and tried to pass it off as published work? Did she think it was going to sway readers to el/riel, that was by far one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. If the bonus is not as important as they claim, why did they rewrite it? Waiting for them to make that make sense.
When SJM was promoting TOG, someone asked about Elain and Azriel and those in attendance shared her response on Twitter and they were crying and screaming on twitter when it was revealed she sees them as siblings - I know it is kinda weird that she did have them almost kiss BUT she actually did not have them kiss, so they could very well form a close subbing like bond later on, in the way Aelin does with Dorian, and they did in fact kiss.
Then fan during her Sept live who asked about Gwyn and the light singer theory. Her response was "not to sound mean but..." when anyone says "not to sound mean" it is the polite way of trying not to make you feel inferior for being wrong, but you are wrong. She even stated "another conspiracy theory" and kindly changed the topic. She did not fall for that question.
Lastly, I'm tired of seeing el/riels attack SJM's friends. Personally, I find it a win that her friends are anti elriels, does it mean I believe they know anything for a fact? I doubt it, but still, I know it makes el/riels so mad to see one of SJM's best friends vocalize she does not see Elain and Az as endgame anymore on her podcast.
Oh and when she was asked about modern vacations, she wasn't even asked about Elucien, yet she blurted it out and included them. El/riel's were not happy about it.
There are no interviews supporting Az and Elain the way there is for Elucien and where things stand in ACOSF it is not promising at all.
I think you're right. With more people coming to the conclusion that E/riel isn't happening it's caused them to get defensive. As far as Bread and Roses. I don't think SJM would give anything away if it was a clue that Elain was living in the townhouse but I am certain it wasn't a clue that E/riel was living together. If the next ACOTAR book picks up after CC3 that means the book would start with Elain and Az having kissed, had sex, fallen in love and moved in together off page. How does that make any sense? Why would you even want them for them? I also find it amusing that their arguments all end with "we have proof that Elain wanted to kiss Az!" after SF while they conveniently leave off the fact that Az told Elain that THEY WERE A MISTAKE. Do they honestly believe SJM would have left E/riels last interaction like that only to have her turn around and pretend like none of that happened at the start of the next book? That as a reader we're supposed to believe they just "talked it out" when we weren't even present for that conversation? They aren't paying attention to the kind of author SJM is if they really think that's what went down.
And SJM did have a million chances to push the narrative of an E/riel endgame but what she did instead is make it a point to tell us how different they are, how they haven't had any real progression in their emotional intimacy (even though Elain was open to getting to know Az), how Elain's sisters don't really consider her a close friend and how the IC doesn't really include her in important decisions. It really doesn't matter what happened two books back when this is the direction she's now headed. I so wish someone had a link to that interview, the one where she announced they were siblings. I've heard about it from a lot of people who remember it as you do but no one saved a link to it. I would LOVE to have that to post and share 😂 And it's not all that weird that she had them almost kiss or that they shared an attraction at one point when you consider Cassian and Mor. We know that Cassian was attracted to Mor and she found him somewhat appealing because they slept together. He admits that in ACOMAF, Mor was somewhere between friend and lover. Then in SF he tells us Mor has become family, his sister. So if that can happen then why can't the same be said for Elain and Az? Especially after they realize they were never really interested in one another for the right reasons anyway? The interview question about Gwyn and lightsingers is a whole big mess. I don't think SJM was even responding to Gwyn being an lightsinger or not because while the girl thought she was being sneaky on suggesting that Gwyn was a lightsinger, the actual question was "if lightsingers have a "beast" form and shadowsingers are the counterpart, do they also have a "beast" form?" and SJM laughed at conspiracy theories while giving an A+ for careful reading. So it answers nothing but also further confuses everything because she laughed at the theories while also complimenting their careful reading. It's a very typical SJM response, telling us nothing while also giving us something that both sides can claim as proof. Regardless though, what would it REALLY matter if Gwyn were a lightsinger (and that's not even saying she is)? But Rhys can mist people and enter their minds to do his bidding. Exactly why would Gwyn being a lightsinger automatically mean that removes her as a LI for Az. Az TORTURES people and doesn't blink at the thought of killing allies. Do they really think he'd be scared off by someone with a dark power? Just like not all daemati are bad, I think we can assume that not all lightsingers are bad (especially if they're only a quarter lightsinger). It could easily be a misunderstood power. And that's not even saying Gwyn is one, I'm just arguing that even if she were it wouldn't change the fact that she can still use something that's considered a dark power to protect the innocent. Just as Rhys does, just as Az does. At the end of the day, I can guarantee SJM is disgusted by the side of her fandom that threatens, bullies and harasses. It's amazing how E/riels that are guilty of it can't understand that.

Hey!
I saw that whoever it was that plagarized your fic and I think one of the popular Elriel content creator's works posted a new fic with this description:
I think copying people's fanfictions is wrong, but I kind of want to base this off of the fic someone stole from another creator, as much as I love respecting people's work I want attention more. I also personally think this fandom needs to learn what the fuck plagarism is. and please no hate but if you genuinely think this is okay you are blind dumb and being rather stupid and ignorant because you wouldn't feel the same if it was your work now would you. I just think you should keep that in mind. will there be remorse, probably not. I started this because I couldn't find my morals and read too much on AO3 so this is for me, because I did it for myself. please do think I do not care about my actions. and personally I think I could learn from this as well as. look idc. Other people created characters and everything basically. the plot is not my own but there are certain parts that I took from posts or comments and ideas.
It's only tagged as Elain Archeron/Azriel, but it definitely looks like a fic I have seen before. But just so you're aware in case they pull it again on another fic of yours, they are still stealing content.
I just need everyone to know that in terms of things that could be happening, this is by far the dumbest. All this person had to do was just...take it down. No one was being mean to them about it, like if it were me and I fucked up, I'd remove it and pretend it never happened. It felt like myself and the other creator (who I don't know, to be fair) had 0 energy for theatrics around this.
And every anon update I get about whats happening next just makes me think I've entered crazy insane clown town because WHY? Why is this your energy??
Anyway folks, for everyone else who has two brain cells and isn't a raging asshole, don't repost other peoples fics! Like, just bare minimum, don't do this. You can't see me, but I'm gesturing wildly at the world, don't do ANY of this.
