Their leaves, nuts, and branches provide food and shelter for a wide range of wildlife, from caterpillars to bears, and they're unique among most deciduous trees for retaining many of their leaves through winter (Oaks do this as well for reasons still under debate, as far as I can tell).

#[demented galadriel voice] all shall love beech and despair #they're having a really hard time right now unfortunately. first they got decimated by an insect + fungus driven infection #so most of the ones you see today have bark that's all twisted up and puckered and they generally don't live as long as they used to.#and now there's some new microscopic worm infestation that attacks the leaves so the trees can't photosynthesize and they die very quickly.#it's pretty devastating i can't imagine the woods w/o them. probably exactly what people in previous generations said about chestnut & elm #lots of opportunity for research and preservation though we just need the political and social will to do it👍#trees #beech #american beech #nature photography #mine

Drawing my Skyrim OCs is probably how I'll get back into character illo... it's nice to have a "starting point" re: lore as opposed to just "making it up" + it becomes basically impossible to not meddle in a backstory for ur character after playing for long enough lol

#reminiscing on the day i started playing & was like haha i'll just name my character Elmer bc it was the first thing that came to mind #& was goofy enough to not get too invested in #come to find out the -mer suffix fits the bill perfectly for a wood elf #so now theyre stuck as Elm(er) bc changing it would simply not b the same...#recreated the character on PC solely bc i Need to marry teldryn sero. ok.#also redoing the main quest as a silly goofy khajiit #+ created a “test” character for troubleshooting mods but he became his own entity too #hes a fucked up evil snow elf who loves killing :D #it feels wrong but i need him to believably complete the dark brotherhood quest (objectively the best one in the game)#and marry the stupid clown if possible.#so now i have a “good” “bad” & “morally ambiguous” character to inform my playstyles #yippee #this is an insane amount of tags #txt #tes

ERIC RAVILIOUS

Here are a couple of small wood engravings by the noted English designer, painter, and wood engraver Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) illustrating English poet Harold Monro’s (1879-1932) poem Elm Angel, published in London by Faber and Faber as No. 26 in The Ariel Poems series in 1930. The edition was limited to 250 numbered copies on English handmade paper, and our copy is signed by the poet. Ravilious was one of the most significant wood engravers of his generation, despite dying at the age of 39 when his plane vanished over the north Atlantic during WWII.

It's 2:00 AM, I showered, did a face mask and watched Nightmare on Elm Street with some snacks, and now I'm reading Junji Ito under the covers.

Out in the woods, a lake rippling by the cottage and a horror fan munching on popcorn as Freddy Krueger grinds his knives against the walls. My screen flickered with flashes of blood, and the halls echoed with the movie's synthesizers. All is quiet and dark outside in the woods. Even when the TV turned off and a twig snapped, I went under my covers and opened up a Junji Ito collection I had packed with me. "Tombs" was the one. Was it my morbid sense of humor that made me pick the book after finding the roadkill? Or was it all foreshadowing something the little traveler didn't suspect within these woods? Maybe if I plunged my hand deeper into the lake when I saw the bubbles, I would've gotten my answer. But what can I say? Catching frogs is fun!

In fact, why don't I share some pictures I took on my trip? Who knows, this may be the last you'll ever hear from me...

Good night everyone. I hear a weird screeching sound by the rocks outside...
