#elliot nightray the plot device ever

hi i came across your elliot nightray is a lesbian post and i know that that post is like. almost a year old would it be possible to explain what you meant about it being a joke about elliot's place in the narrative? no pressure ofc i just also had the same hc and i wanted to see why someone else thought that way

of course!!

basically: in my interpretation of pandora hearts, elliot isn't really a character who exists outside of the thematic role he plays in the story (even in the in-story world of the manga, because...the world is a story!) namely, he's a guy who is there to further along the themes of self-sacrifice, particularly to challenge the conceit that self-sacrifice is an inherently selfish act that places the blame of suicide onto the person committing it as opposed to the structural oppression and action that drove them to that point (which is one of the reasons why it's so important that ELLIOT is the character that does this, because he's one of the main people who champions the idea of suicide as personal selfishness.) elliot is one of the first characters to realize the story that he's in and the role he is supposed to play within it.

ADDITIONALLY AND RELATEDLY, elliot is very much a deliberate parallel to lacie. they share similar roles in the the lives of their corresponding glens (leo doesn't have a coio he has to 'kill,' but in every way elliot fills that role in his life). they both have the same final sentiments (im sorry, forgive me) that are both messages for their glen. both elliot and lacie are ultimately trapped in a structure that forces them to die as the "best" way out, *even if they expressly do not actually want to kill themselves.* and well. lacie baskerville is a lesbian. to me.

all of this analysis aside (im sorry i tried to keep this short and then failed bc im abnormal about pandora hearts) what it boiled down to is a series of messages with my friend @rheineorshine that were a combination of "well elliot is lacie so by transitive property he must also be a lesbian" and "elliot isn't an actual person in the narrative of pandora hearts so he can literally just be whatever you want" and "elliot is lesbian-coded because he's dead."

and then she embroidered "elliot nightray was a lesbian, actually" and it's on my wall forever and ever.

Air conditioner. I don’t know if every heater I’ve encountered in my life is malfunctioning, but I’m always cold. Air conditioners work.

French Toast. Also, maple syrup tastes surprising good on chicken.

I don’t play Pokemon, but I really like squirtle.

I honestly had never heard of him until he became a LGBT+ icon. The memes are funny though. If I saw him in real life though, I’d probably have a heart attack on the spot.

In all honesty, I don’t really like that many frog memes. They’re better than Spongebob memes though. I suppose Kermit memes are my favorite if I had to pick one.

There are two husbands (you know, like the armrest things) in my room, and instead of using them to support my back and arms like a normal human being, I like to sit my butt on top of them.

Hmmm, I really liked London; I think I would enjoy living there. We’ll see how Japan is.

Of the manga authors: MOCHIZUKI JUN. Of literary authors: F. Scott Key Fitzgerald. I wish I could write like him.

BSD Movie. I don’t really get attached to movies. I’d say Enchanted, for no other reason than I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently.

Dunkin Donuts because DONUTS. I don’t like coffee, so there’s that.

Uhh... I can’t say I’ve felt so strongly about a fictional character, but if I had to pick a character, it would be my precious son, Nagisa.

They have Megumi Ogata’s voice. Erm... usually if they have some kind of effed-up in the head or are down-right creepy, I like them. Also, if they’re a shoujo manga male lead, I’ll like them. I also love small, cute, and pure characters.

3. A book that made you cry

The first book I cried about was Walk Two Moons; in fact, I still get really sad thinking about it. This is a bad question to ask me; I cry at everything.

4. Do you think you’d be able to murder someone?

Do you think I’m that adept? Also, emotionally I’m not that level of callous or angry.

5. Your favorite character right now from any work and why

Right now, Chuuya has consumed my life. (It’s been an unpredictably long time).

I’d like to meet my internet friends.

7. Music or silence?

God, I’m almost afraid of silence because that’s when the things you don’t want to hear are audible. (Also, under a long period of silence, people go insane). Also, I love music, so that’s an obvious choice!

8. If you could learn any language, what would it be

I would take another stab at Greek. I’m Greek, and I feel a desire to learn the language.

9. If you could bring back to life any character from any book/movie/tv show, who would it be?

I want to say Elliot Nightray, but I have so much respect for the nobility of his death. While I think that reviving a character is a cheap plot device, in a world where I didn’t care about the integrity of the plot, I would bring back either Uncle Oscar or Odasaku--two dads that didn’t deserve to die.

Hell yeah I’d push it if the one who dies is Dazai! Petition to kill Dazai more in fics! #killDazai2k17 If it was Chuuya, ehh... no.
