“trying?” alex tsks regretfully, matching ellie’s glance. “used to not even have to try.” rolling her eyes, the brunette moves to pluck the sweater out of her hands for inspection. “friends don’t let friends ruin their girlfriend’s clothes without giving them a thoroughly hard time about it.” she bites into her smirk and shakes her head at ellie’s handiwork. “‘kay, fine, guess i prefer you alive, so here’s what we’re gonna go: we’re gonna burn this -- no body, no crime. and then when she asks where it is, you just say you gave it to her ages ago. she totally misplaced it, our thoughtless little paigey.” smirk blazes into a grin. feels good to know she’s still got it.

it’s not his fault, he’s sure of it. it’s late and, yeah, craig’s good with late. some of his best work happens in the dead of night and maybe that’s what this is. watching ellie watching the city, her hair glows blood red in the fluorescent lights and against her top and the black of the sky. he doesn’t realize he’s staring ‘til she mentions it. “no,” he answers quickly, shakes it off. “-- sorry. no, you’re perfect. just wish i had my camera.” not that a picture would remotely encapsulate the moment.  he shows a half smile, nudges his shoulder to her’s. “rooftops in the middle of the night suit you.” he lets his gaze cast to the skyline, lets out a breath. “looks crazy down there.”

– PAIGE SIGHS, TRYING TO REMEMBER THE LAST TIME SHE WORKED THIS HARD. but what can she say ? she loves a project ! and really, it’s not paige’s fault that it’s difficult – if ellie owned more color, or some tights without rips in them, then it wouldn’t be the struggle that it is. ‘ listen, hon. you dress like you’d look at my major arteries as a SNACK. you need so much more than simple fashion advice...please tell me this skirt is a halloween costume and not something you actually WEAR ? ’ paige holds it up with a pleading look in her eye, practically begging ellie to refute her. secretly, however, she’s having so much fun – if she can convince ellie to let her do her makeup, this’ll be the best day she’s had all week. even with the terrible taste, ellie’s still...somehow attractive, objectively, so there’s definitely potential there. ‘ here, try this on, ’ she adds, tossing a dress in ellie’s direction.

“easy, it’s more than meets the eye.” it’s not. craig scoffs a laugh, rolls his head back in dramatic impatience. “c’mon, we still have some pizza left. it’s probably achieved the perfect room temperature. still got flavor, but sans cheese so hot it’ll burn the roof of your mouth.” and he just kinda wants to hang longer. better than being alone. craig arcs a brow at her, a playful attempt at reverse psychology. “unless you’re scared i’m gonna make you watch the exorcist again.”
