GIRLBOSS TOURNEY ROUND THREE: I'M NOT SURE WHO WOULD KIDNAP WHO FOR TORTURE FIRST
Select which one you think is GIRLBOSSIER, i.e., which one is the better girlboss
Propaganda
Amanda Young:
Tragically orchestrated her own death because of being a Jigsaw apprentice who decided to kill people she saw as beyond change (said people were cops and one was a shitty abusive asshole so she was right). 1-2 she’s scared and trying to survive and prove herself and 3 she’s an awesome murder wife who still has issues over her worth to jigsaw that she eventually kills the person being tested. Icon.
Bryce Tankthrust:
She's is the very definition of a girlboss! She's CEO of multiple Fortune 500 companies, she's embezzled company funds to build 11 prisons, she's a rich capitalist, she kills people on the regular or has her assistant Donovan literally tear their heads off. She's a homophobic ally, she throws coffee at poor people, she's married to queer super villain terrorist and horniest man alive Bobby Worst, her sex appeal is insane seriously this bitch gets 'serviced' at least once a day. She was president the U.S. for a while and flashed the Senate at one point and threw hands with Joe Biden at some other point, she had hella beef with Queen Elizabeth II. She quite literally has no heart metaphorically AND anatomically speaking, she kidnapped a baby to repeatedly clone it in order to have a) an army of emotionless clones at her disposal, and b) an endless supply of human hearts to harvest because as mentioned she has no heart and needs a transplant every few hours or she dies(or turns into a demonic hellbeast). She originally tried to make an honest living as a young woman and quickly realized that there is now ethical consumption under capitalism (and under rampant misogyny in the 80s) so she decided to just start killing mfs that stood in her way. She's a bad bitch who wears a blood red suit and can sprint at full speed in thin heels while shooting a gun, she is such an evil bitch and I love her, she is THE girlboss.

All designs from Mirabilia Designs by Nora Corbett:
#111: The Peony Garden
Exuberant double blossom peonies create a purple haze at twilight. With names like “Cup of shining night”, “Story Enchantress” and “Red embroidered needles ball”, it is no wonder that the peony tree is the center of every spring imperial garden.
#112: Charlotte— December 15, 2010
This treasure of cross stitch is a symphony of fuchsia, teal and lime. The pose is one of elegance and quiet contemplation. The simple flowing satin shows a subtle sheen and give this piece an Art Nouveau feel.
#113: The Red Lady Pirate— February 15, 2011
1500-1534
One of the most ruthless and cunning of the female pirates of the 16th Century.
#114: September Sapphire Fairy— April 15, 2011
The September Sapphire Fairy captures a serene moment of a young fairy. She is inspired by beautiful prints and kimonos of the Far East and butterflies dance about her lovely silk brocade gown. She is a sweetheart that lingers in the amazement of her fluttery friends.
#115: Lady Alexandra— June 15, 2011
This design is midnight velvet, white star silk, Hollywood glamour, glittering diamonds and brocade. A timeless design of beauty and grace, please meet Miss Lady Alexandra
#116: Elizabeth— August 15, 2011
This design is named for my favorite movie icon. I am so inspired with the fearless, beautiful way she lived her life. She swam with sharks and took wild road trips and truly lived. Please meet Elizabeth.
#117: Merchant Mermaid— October 15, 2011
I love Mill Hill Crystal Treasures and beads nestled between silky stitches on cross-stitch handwork.
It seems to me that they could have been harvested by mermaids in deep sea gardens and then sold to merchants traveling the abyss.
#118: Golden Girl Apples— December 15, 2011
Who can resist a sweet apple and the bright logos on the crates? So happy and sunny and promising farm grown wholesome goodness. Our Golden Girl Apples are crisp and juicy with a touch of tart.
#119: Silver Moon Tea— February 15, 2012
Art nouveau ribbons mingle with the curls of steam from a porcelain cup. A lovely lady in shades of deep cherry is surrounded by amethyst roses. The blue light of the moon shines on her sweetly infused Earl Grey tea.
#120: Santa— April 15, 2012
A legendary holiday spirit is stitched in the merriest shades of red and gold. His Nordic mittens hold sparkling gifts wrapped in shiny bows. Gold brocade adorns his jolly coat and his beads glitter in the winter moonlight.

Buhari led quasi-Democratic Nigeria Regime, near Collapse & now all Yoruba legal inheritance/legacy and Law Practices/legal known-hows which for years acquired, were now being destroyed with the Assistance of disgruntled Yoruba led by Tinubu.
The Nigeria President Buhari Shaking Hand with Queen Elizabeth II
Buhari led Quasi-Democratic Nigeria Regime, near Collapse & Worldly known as non-economic, non viable/malfunctioning Regime, analyses as a structural/ethnic polarized unstable Regime, associated with its malfunctioning non-national Security without prerequisite training & non provision of required Military Logistics & without required Adequate Modern Military Equipment and Devoid of per-requisite standard Military of all Ethnic, Sections’ & Regions’ One National inclusive Formation & belief of Military Mandatory Basic Educational/Professional Army Entries or Army Promotions, equitably for All in a genuinely functioning Federation and it is Sad that North, for whatever Reason could allow Military that brought North to Power, influence and Wealth, could be allowed to die for their unnecessary myopic or narrow Fulani ethnic Reason or non-intelligent leadership Bankruptcy.... (Medieval thinking Fulani Sect.) The Nigeria Judiciary was usually led by the Yoruba legal icons/legal knowledgeable practitioners from the time of late Chief Christopher Alexander Sapara Williams CMG (July 14, 1855–March 15, 1915),who was the first indigenous Nigerian lawyer, and now all Yoruba legal inheritance/legacy and law Practices/legal known-hows which for years acquired, were now being destroyed with the Assistance of disgruntled Yoruba led by Tinubu. Fulani acclaimed mystery is operational characterized & embedded with the Medieval thinking Fulani Sect. Ironically, Fulani Extremists(Medieval thinking Fulani Sect.) have confused & controlled Buhari Regime through its ethnic folk adage or by its idiom crazy syndrome of Fulani are Born to Rule or to Ruin & its Fulani Leadership for ages were secretly guided by Her imperial Majesty with the assistance of its imperialists/hired or organized Collaborators and these have systematically led to the Today present inefficient Governance & its political/religious polarization or Nigeria political impasse/quasi failed State. When Buhari Regime came to Authority, in order to sensationalize or rationalize its Governance leadership to its Core North Fulani Extremist Base, non-strategically scrap or dismantle the Ex-President Good Luck inherited PDP existed Nigeria Crude Oil Sales Formation & it’s Sold Oil Revenue Collection Arrangement with US/EU Revenue Drift Secret hired Agency, that coarse sold Oil Revenues. From Obasanjo Military/Civilian Regimes to Ex-President Good Luck, before Buhari inherited it and canceled & scraped all existed Oil Sales/Revenue Collection Arrangements/connections were cancelled without a new authoritative arrangement for Replacement, as to be able to efficiently Sell and collect Nigeria Sold Oil with its expectant revenue as anticipated and since Buhari inception till today, all Nigeria sold Oil Revenues were largely not collected as anticipated and Buhari Regime now, resulted to its known tool of Governance Restriction of imports & starvation of lack of medicine, food/humane items Oversea purchases. In past, ex Regimes were in receipts of sold Oil revenues and fairly finance its past Regimes Budgets and fuel its adequate imports for better Governance and this, might hurt Nigeria Economy badly. Recently Buhari Regime’s Associates/Supporters took political primitive of supporting this Regime lack of food imports, as local Nigeria Rice is better than imported Rice, as imported Rice are quack & substandard & not fit for human consumption with no ingredient/nutrients. Might to their low knowledge that all Rice at harvest, are 100% starch, it underwent several processes to reduce its higher Starch content, as in Thai, Rice upon harvest, are processed and stored for few year in Rice silo for its silage for less of 40% starch, before consumption (long-grain white rice is a relatively good source of energy, carbohydrates, calcium, iron, thiamin, pantothenic acid, folate and vitamin E.) Presently based on wrong national feeding without perquisite human food consumption, Nigerians cannot to be able to compete globally and excel in Academics, business & other human endeavors, as they cannot be bold with poor feeding, except in Occultism or juju, due to lowest knowledge or lack of think tank Reserve as to compete as required. Since, Queen secretly hold in Trust the so called the Fulani Arwa hidden UK Accounts, being managed and controlled for future Fulani strategically Reserve usage, but when late Ado Bayero, late Emir of Kano, quietly requested that some fund to channeled back to North as Arab loan as to develop North, instead of stacking or piling it without immediate usage, as when will it be used, as of now the Fulani Arwa hidden UK Accounts, worth more than £2 Trillion Pound sterling. Due to present non-oil sold Revenue collection and Regime cannot be able to execute its programs or Budget or finance its projects as programmed, it is illogical for Buhari/ (Medieval thinking Fulani Sect.) to expect that Queen can assist his Regime with finance from the secret Arwa UK Accounts and now the Regime blame the Nigeria Oppositions for his non-governmental performance. A Father’s Daughter (D&D, Annabelle x MC)
Requested by @esteladannishreyakamilah, this is my VDay D&D entry for the February Challenge by @endlessly-searching-for-you. ❤️
Notice that I wrote this fanfic before the “pistols at dawn” plotwtist so consider this taking place after the trip to Grovershire. It deviates slighlty from the canon in the end (I couldn’t remember the original line of Lady Grandmother and I made up another xD).
Frustrated by the latest events at Edgewater, Elizabeth wrote an impossible letter to her father, drawing similarities between their sentimental fate: why can’t their family understand the true meaning of love?
Prompt: Forbidden Love
Word Count: 1128
Perma Tag: @brightpinkpeppercorn @psychopathdreamer21 @abunchofbadchoices @bbaba-yagaa @silverhawkenzie @melodyofgraves
Tags: @kennaxval @kinda-iconic @countessannabelle (hope you like it sweetheart)
_________________________
Dear Father, I hope that this letter you will never receive finds you at peace and finally reunited to your long lost true love, my beloved mother. I miss you both. I know that I hardly knew you but I miss you dearly, cursing all the years we spent separated and unaware of each other. If only you were still here... Since you were gone, things got worse over here in your well-loved Edgewater. Winds of war started blowing and the ominous shadow of a tyrant lingers over us. I'm sure you remember Duke Richards: apparently, Lady Grandmother, the Dowager Countess, fell for his charms and is going above and beyond to make this wedding happen. She still gushes over the Queen's blessing and how rich and noble Mr Richards is. Noble? How can a pompous narcissistic beast like him be even called a man not to mention noble? He may have a gentleman facade but he's one of the meanest people I've ever met. Underneath his accomplished appearance, he hides a big bad wolf and I don't want to be his prey. I will fight until my last breath if need be! He's arrogant and toxic, he belittles everyone he considers inferior to him and the meaning of the word "empathy" is unknown to him. He abuses of his power and even assaulted me! How could I even consider marrying someone like him? Please tell me, Father! I cannot undestand why your Mother doesn't pay the same respect to other men, genuine noble souls, unlike the monster she worships She doesn't listen to my complaints: she "knows best what's good for Edgewater". I'm afraid she will realize the mistake she made too late...
Oh Father, if only I think about our last conversation on your death-bed, what you told me! All you wanted was my happiness: that I marry for love not out of mere convenience. I had a plan to make it happens: good Mr Chambers made me a proposal but Lady Grandmother ruined everything, forcing my engagement with Duke Richards. She would rather see me sacrifice my joy for her greater good -not mine-, her selfish ambition than see me happy with someone I choose on my own. I know it's harsh and I wish I didn't have to speak in such a petty manner of my your mother, but I'm afraid I have no choice. Was she like that with you too when you were younger? I bet she didn't approve mom too. How could you two be of the same kin? She and your Father can't hold a candle to the gentleness and sweetness shining inside of you. They're so stubborn and selfish: I found myself wondering if lady Grandmother actually loves me as her granddaughter. Or anyone else, for the matter. It saddens me that you may have shared similar thoughts when you were among the livings.
I sneaked away to Grovershire, my old village. I couldn’t be in Edgewater anymore, I couldn’t even bare the sight of her and her beloved Duke Richards. Once I reached the places of my childhood, I breathed again. My life was so easier when I lived there...and I will always belong there no matter what the future holds. Mrs O’Malley, our wondrous tailor, the kids, the extraordinary baker who provides the best apple tarts of whole England, Mrs Daly...they were all there. Oh the wave of memories that hit me, Father! And the surprise of seeing that among them there were other familiar and friendly figures, like Mr Harper, Mr Sinclaire and Prince Hamid! They all came there when they heard the news of my “escape”. Miss Parsons immediatly left Hazelvale too. I had to beg my heart to be still when Briar gestured me to look over my shoulder and she was there, gracefully waving at me on the opposite side of the square.
I can’t find words strong enough to describe how I feel about her, Father. The heart beating in my chest doesn’t belong to me anymore, it’s hers, my mind belongs to her as well since I keep daydreaming of her when she’s not around. Her melodious laugh, the sound of her voice, the gleam in her beautiful dark eyes when we notice me looking at her across the room, the soft smile immediatly forming on her lips...these things never leave me, even when we are apart. And, to be honest, they make my life worth living at the moment. She’s my harbour, my love and -Father pretend not to read this if it makes you blush too- my passion. Did you and mom feel the same way back then?
I felt on top of the world when in Grovershire I walked down the street with Annabelle on my arm. Nobody stared maliciously at us nor turned their head away disgusted. They just nodded and smiled as they walked by: my heart almost exploded with joy. It certainly went boom when I danced with my fair lady of Hazelvale in the square with my friends and we were all simply merry, careless. I felt free, Father. And oh, how could I describe the joy that kindled inside me when I was crowned Queen of the Harvest Feast and I got to choose Annabelle, sweet, fierce Annabelle as my King!
That joy faded soon though, too soon. Lady Grandmother found me and my freedom was over once again. She made a beeline towards me through the crowd: disdain and fury were written all over her face while she walked imperiously as if she owned the place. And then her eyes fell on me...and Annabelle frozen in place, still down on one knee beside me, courtly holding my hand. Lady Grandmother’s stare grew cold, probably colder than I’ve ever seen, and she hissed, looking at me: “You truly are your father’s daughter, Elizabeth. You’re coming with me. Now.”. And now she forced me back to Edgewater, exactly where she wanted me to be. Oh dear Father, when you were here, Edgewater was such a lovely place to me: it was where we could be together, it meant you. Now, after your death, it's nothing but a trap, sadly. Its now familiar shape in the horizon turned my happiness into sorrow and made my heart tightened. The mere thought of living under the same roof, breathing the same air, the possibility of accidentally bumping into that hideous man in your house Father - your house, not his! - makes me sick. That snake repels me and I will never understand why for the world he's more suitable for me than Miss Parsons, the rare gem I will be eternally loyal and devoted to. Paraphrasing forlorn Hamlet, "something is rotten in the land of her Majesty", something is so very rotten...

harvest, cider, cinnamon, maize!
Hi Yana ! Always a pleasure to see you in my ask box. :)
Harvest : what fictional character do you most identify with ? Why ?
Eowyn of Rohan (LOTR), purely for her iconic line in response to Aragorn’s question “What do you fear ?” - “A cage. To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recalls or desire.”For as long as I can remember, that line has echoed in me. Because I don’t want to be entraped in a single role that I did not choose all my life. I do not want to lay down my weapons, accept a fate that isn’t my doing, and let go of all the opportunities that I could have grabbed simply because someone told me “that’s not what you’re supposed to do”. At the moment I just finished my degree and I’m looking for a job. My grandfather tells me, “it’s all good to look for a job that you like, but you must also think about the financial aspect”. And I want to tell him so badly, “No, no, that’s not who I am - I am not here for the money, I am not here to be just another cog in the machine. I wasn’t born just to accept that my life has no other meaning than get up, make money, go to sleep. That’s not who I am, I don’t accept this. There’s a whole world out there, a world in need of people caring about it, protecting it, maybe even (let’s be vain) saving. I want to be out there. I want to do something, for the world, for the people.”That’s why I love and identify with Eowyn. Because she did not bow down and accept her place. She dared, she went and she was instrumental in the victory against Sauron’s army - and along the way she helped keep Merry’s spirits high, and she became a shoulder to lay on for Faramir, and she was here for Theoden when he died. She was here and she was unashamed, proud and herself to the end. And that’s who I want to be.
Cider : a food that you disliked as a child but now enjoy ?
Cauliflower.
Cinnamon : if you had to live in a time period different than the present, which would you choose and where ?
Good question. I often think about that.Paris during La Belle Epoque, 1870-1914. The entire 19th century in general. The 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Oh how I wish I could have lived the 70s and 80s.I wish I could have been born during Elizabeth I’s reign, in the 16th century, became immortal and lived through the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th centuries, in Europe. Travelling the “known” world and going to discover the rest of it. Getting a reputation throughout Europe’s royal courts, and getting to know all the civilisations that got fucked over by Europeans before they were destroyed and killed ... Meet Shakespeare, watch the construction of Versailles ...
Maize : share the weirdest encounter you’ve had with a stranger on the street.
Uh. I have a very bad memory and also a few drinks tonight, not helping. Lemme think ...Oh, yeah ! So, 7 years ago, I was finishing high school, living with my grandfather’s, and I would go to and from school alone by foot, a 20-minute walk along a busy road. So one day I was going back home, walking and listening to my music, the usual. And this guy makes signs at me, so 17yo me, still a but naive, a bit too nice, stops and says “Yeah, what do you want ?” (In French of course). And then the guy starts telling me that he’s noticed me and I impressed him (yeaaaah, not weird at all, greAT), and that he has a music band and they’re having a gig in town in the next few days, I’m welcome to drop by, and also he has CDs on him right now, if I want to buy one ... Totally normal things, ya know ? So I tell him, “oh, cool cool cool, um, yeah, I’m a minor and I don’t have no money, and I have to go home, they’re waiting for me” and then I dashed home, making sure I wasn’t being followed, because I may not have had many experiences with creepy men at this point, but I was already hella paranoid and suspicious of anyone. This day I don’t even stop, I pretend I haven’t seen them. Have seen a few men start talking to me and then end up mouth open looking dumb because I just went on my road completely ignoring their existence. Much fun. Anyway. That was my weird encounter in the streets.
Thank you for playing the game !Autumnal asks : ask me

iVisit... Hayward Gallery to reopen and new events for Southbank Centre’s Inside Out series are announced
The Southbank Centre announces that the Hayward Gallery will reopen on 19 May, with two much-anticipated, solo exhibitions by Matthew Barney and Igshaan Adams.
The announcement comes as a new slate of events for Inside Out, an online season of music and literature are released. This next instalment of the popular digital series will see the Southbank Centre’s Resident Orchestras performing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, marking the first time the much-loved venue has been open since it closed last March due to Covid-19.
The orchestras are joined by a roster of leading international artists, including conductors Ben Gernon, Enrique Mazzola, Fabien Gabel, Robin Ticciati, Rory MacDonald, Ryan Bancroft and Sir Mark Elder and soloists Alexandra Dariescu, Denis Kozhukhin, Paul Lewis, Pavel Kolesnikov and Steven Isserlis.
A further series of Inside Out events will be announced in the coming weeks. The Southbank Centre’s reopening plans will then be announced in due course, subject to government guidance.
Gillian Moore CBE, Director of Music and Performing Arts, Southbank Centre, says: “We’re making a very warm welcome back to our orchestral partners this Spring for our ongoing Inside Out series. It’s going to be wonderful to see them back in the Southbank Centre doing what they do best, performing much-loved music with world-class conductors and soloists. We know these events will continue to bring a little bit of light into our homes as we look forward to reopening our shared spaces later this year.”
HAYWARD GALLERY:
Matthew Barney: Redoubt
19 May – 25 July 2021
From 19 May through 25 July 2021 the Hayward Gallery presents Matthew Barney: Redoubt, an exhibition of the renowned artist and filmmaker’s latest body of work. The exhibition, the artist’s first major museum show in the UK in over a decade, presents a group of monumental sculptures, and more than forty engravings and electroplated copper plates. Also included is the UK premiere of Barney’s new eponymous film, a ‘breathtakingly beautiful’ chronicle that explores the complex relationships between humans, and the natural world. Set in the sublime wintry landscape of Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountain range, the feature-length film intertwines themes of artistic creation in a contemporary reworking of the classical myth of Diana and Actaeon.
Redoubt presents a major new direction in Barney’s practice, and advances his notable shift in materials over the past decade, from the plastic and petroleum jelly of his earlier works to the cast metals that figured prominently in River of Fundament, 2014. With Redoubt, Barney combines traditional casting methods and new digital technologies in an unprecedented way to create artworks of formal and material complexity as well as narrative density. The four large-scale sculptures in the exhibition derive from trees harvested from a burned forest in the Sawtooth Mountains. Formed out of molten copper and brass, the unique casts incorporate enlarged militarised elements, giving the sculptures a hybridised aesthetic that is both imposing and intricate.
Matthew Barney: Redoubt was originally organised by the Yale University Art Gallery.
Igshaan Adams: Kicking Dust
19 May – 25 July 2021
In May 2021, the Hayward Gallery presents the first solo exhibition in the UK of South African artist Igshaan Adams (b. 1982). The 2018 winner of the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist Award, Igshaan Adams lives and works in Cape Town. The artist’s cross-disciplinary practice combines aspects of weaving, sculpture and installation whilst exploring concerns related to race, religion and sexuality.
The exhibition consists largely of new work produced during an artist residency Adams undertook at the A4 Foundation in Cape Town and on the occasion of the show. Presented as a single immersive environment with suspended sculptures, large-scale floor based weavings and tapestries hung on the wall, the installation responds to Hayward’s iconic Brutalist gallery space. Each work, and the exhibition as a whole, is composed of multiple patterns that explore the potential of woven material to reflect not only the multiplicities of Adams’ own identity but of broader cultural interchange.
RESIDENT ORCHESTRAS:
The London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, and London Sinfonietta return to the Southbank Centre in March and April for streamed concerts featuring world-renowned conductors and soloists, as well as programming for young people. The events announced today will run to 28 April, with subsequent digital programming from 28 April onwards to be announced in due course. Tickets will be available to the general public from 2pm on Friday 5 March.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra presents six concerts filmed by Intersection (formerly Silent Studios) which will be available for audiences to watch for free on Marquee.tv from 24 March. The concerts will be streamed every Wednesday at 8pm from 24 March and will feature conductors Enrique Mazzola, Robin Ticciati and Sir Mark Elder, as well as soloists Steven Isserlis, Denis Kozhukhin and Alexandra Dariescu. Programme details for later concerts will soon be revealed but will include two of the Orchestra’s titled conductors Karina Canellakis and Vladimir Jurowski, who conducts his final concerts at the Royal Festival Hall before stepping into the Conductor Emeritus role.
Tickets will be free for the first seven days after broadcast and concerts will be captured before their premiere date.
The Philharmonia Orchestra presents two global streams to be presented on the orchestra’s own dedicated channel. On Thursday 25 March, the Philharmonia will be joined by conductor Ryan Bancroft and pianist Paul Lewis for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. On Thursday 1 April, Rory MacDonald will then lead the orchestra for a programme of Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, with Pavel Kolesnikov performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
Tickets start at £10 and concerts will be captured before their premiere date.
The London Sinfonietta’s ‘Sound Out Online’ is the orchestra’s annual concert for children and young people and goes online for the first time to bring pupils closer to iconic contemporary music from the past century (22 March). As part of the orchestra’s Composition Challenges scheme, the concert features new works submitted by young people, as the London Sinfonietta continues to inspire a new generation of composers to get creative with classical music.
This event is free and will be streamed live on YouTube, exclusively for the Southbank Centre on Monday 22 March from 2 – 2.50pm. It is designed for Key Stage 2.
Previously announced online music and literature events as part of Inside Out include Skin (4 Mar), Black Country, New Road (6 Mar), London Contemporary Orchestra (19 Mar), Bell Orchestre (13 Mar), Hanif Abdurraquib (25 Mar), Out-Spoken (28 Mar), Kazuo and Naomi Ishiguro (5 Apr), Olivia Laing (30 Apr) and Jhumpa Lahiri (6 May). Tickets are onsale.
Elsewhere at the Southbank Centre:
WINTER LIGHT
Winter Light (extended until 28 March) is a free open-air exhibition that enlivens the site’s iconic buildings and the Riverside Walk with luminous, playful and thought-provoking artworks during the darkest months of the year. Featuring a range of leading international artists, Winter Light includes artworks, new commissions and a series of poems that make ingenious use of light, colour and animation whilst touching on diverse concerns.
At a time when we view so much of the world through digital screens, the artists in this exhibition celebrate how the medium of light can transform our physical spaces. Their artworks also explore ideas about nature, politics and society, gender, aesthetics and the act of looking. Winter Light includes artworks by artists including: Simeon Barclay, David Batchelor, James Clar, Shezad Dawood, Kota Ezawa, Navine G. Khan-Dossos, Suzie Larke, Tala Madani, Tatsuo Miyajima, Louiza Ntourou, Katie Paterson, Jini Reddy, Tavares Strachan, Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum, Emma Talbot and Toby Ziegler.
IMAGINE A STORY
Coinciding with World Book Day, the Southbank Centre is inviting 40 primary schools to take part in this year’s creative writing project Imagine a Story, giving young children the chance to become published authors. Children’s author Zanib Mian and illustrator Selom Sunu are collaborating on the project, which is open to classes of Key Stage 2 children (years 3 – 6), with online applications closing Sunday 14 March.
In this project inspired by a ‘game of consequences’ each school group writes one segment of a creative story based on a framework devised by Zanib Mian (Planet Omar: Operation Kind – published for World Book Day 2021; Planet Omar: Incredible Rescue Mission; Planet Omar: Unexpected Super Spy), the author of brilliant and diverse children’s fiction, who will inspire them to develop their collaborative work in classrooms to support their development and personal wellbeing.
These chapters will then be combined into a collection of short stories and professionally published by the Southbank Centre, with illustrations by Selom Sunu (Ghost; Patina; Sunny; Lu; Look Both Ways) Zanib Mian and Selom Sunu will read the final stories which will be live-streamed to participating primary school classrooms in July and each child will receive a copy of the published book.
In addition, the Southbank Centre’s nationwide participation programme, Art by Post has been shortlisted for "Award for the Best Larger Social Prescribing Project" as part of the Social Prescribing Network Awards. The ceremony is on 4 March with winners to be announced from 3.30 – 5pm.

Documentary - Britain’s hidden art history - “Whoever heard of a Black Artist?” Narrated by Brenda Emmanus.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this documentary, I needed to watch this documentary because of my shameful lack of knowledge on poc artists. I don’t have anything to critique about the work I saw in the documentary as I was in awe of it all.
I highly recommend that people watch this documentary, I’ve learnt so much about the art industry I’ll be involved with, and how badly poc artists have been treated and still are treated. It’s shined a new light on what I should be using my privilege and my knowledge as a white person to stop this discrimination to the best of my abilities, as I will never fully understand what racism/ racial injustice a person of colour goes through on a daily basis.
Sonia Boyce spent three or more years uncovering work by poc artists in Britain and exhibiting their work, the exhibition was beautiful and I’m sad I am not able to go see it/seen it.
“The first group of Black artists to find success in Britain were part of the Windrush generation arriving from the Caribbean from the late 40′s”
This documentary is needed with the BLM movement of today, the more education for me on what I should be know is what I want.
“Black Artists and Modernism” - Sonia Boyce
“Black Art Movement of the 80′s” - Sonia Boyce
“Systemic discrimination in the industry” - Sonia Boyce
Althea McNish was interviewed in the documentary, McNish studied textile design at the Royal College of Art and is best known for the piece “Golden Harvest”. Althea inspired British designers producing her designs to use colour, brands Dior, Balenciaga took inspiration from Althea’s work and she collabed with them all also.
Althea and other poc artists started The Caribbean Artist Movement to combat discrimination.
“She adds sunshine to London’s fog” - The Guardian
Such beautiful and visually seductive designs, colours and patterns used in Althea’s McNish’s work, and from watching the documentary I do recognize a lot of the patterns and imagery created by her, McNish has had a big impact on the creative industry.
The Caribbean Artist Movement put on group exhibitions in London’s commonwealth institute.
“The art establishment never let the artists move out of the label of Caribbean Artists”.
Avinash Chandra
Anwar Jalal Shemza - one of the first artists to mix Islamic writing/calligraphy with abstract art.
Aubrey Williams
Ronald Moody
Frank Bowling - Left London found success in New York City.
Rasheed Araeen
“The Black Art Group”
Marlene Smith Rooney
Keith Piper
Lubiana Himid
Isaac Julien
Brenda Agard
Donald Rodney
Claudette Johnson
John Akomfach
Zarina Muhammed
Maud Sulter
Jay Labinjo
I have recently been listening to podcasts by people of colour particularly women of colour. “Slay your Lane” on apple podcasts by Elizabeth Uviebeneńe & Yomi Adegoke, they speak with musicians, authors, journalists and more to use their voices on the problems they face daily, to the amazing work they put out for the world. Coming across these amazing people that I can look into using social media, it gives me more references for new ideas of work, I can even use the people in the podcast as deliberate references in my work such as painting them, this doesn’t tip toe from what I’m trying to deliver to the audience. Using iconic, and strong creators in my work shows that I’m finding new people to look up to, which shows self growth not just in myself but in my work.

Under-appreciated light novels recommendation list, ranked in terms of PLEASE READ, to ehh, I’ll just put it in anyway:
Legend of Sun Knight (Completed Translation+Series): Set in a world of knights and magic, this series is golden comedy because the MC literally carries the plot. He’s smart, snarky and sleazy… but in a good way. I wrote about it here, but this series is for people who love comedy and political-castle-intrigue-level manipulation. ANYWAY PLEASE READ IT IT’S UP THERE ON MY TOP TEN BOOKS TO READ. No anime or manga translation. WHY.
Rakuin no Monshou (Completed Translation): For people who love the switching-the-royal-prince-with-a-body-double trope, political manoeuvring, military tactics, having the main character travel to different countries and exploring their governing system, and major character growth. No ecchi scenes, mentions of sex and rape (if any) are not elaborated on. Love between the MC and the female lead is more of a stranger to mutual respect to love, but since the female lead is literally 14-15 (they’re engaged to foster peace between two countries and not some lolicon thing), there are literally 0 sexy/blushy blushy/kissing/intimacy scenes between them. In the story their relationship feels less like a lovey dovey couple and more like the relationship between two generals that trust each other. This doesn’t have an anime or manga series after it. Why.
Only Sense Online (Ongoing Translation, Ongoing Series): Unlike the recent isekai and trapped-in-an-online-game-and-if-you-die-in-the-game-you-die-for-realsies trends that are going around right now, this is just a game where the MC has fun playing a normal VRMMO and makes new friends in it. …In fact, the MC isn’t an otaku or a game maniac, his sister and childhood friend are the ones crazy about levelling up and doing all the main subjugation-monster quests and everything, he’s more of the chill type who’d rather hang back and craft stuff to sell in his shop. He likes doing things at his own pace and learning how to craft new things in his own time. Instead of battling monsters and levelling up, he’s more likely to be seen harvesting items and mining rocks. Oh, and also at the start of the game he mis-clicked and is stuck in a female avatar, and combined with his mothering, take-care-of-everyone personality, everyone treats him like like a ‘nanny’ and is in awe of his ‘moe-ness’, even though he keeps insisting he’s a guy. One of the story’s underlying message is that different people have different ways of enjoying the same game, be it doing quests in a party, creating items to support players, roleplaying, and even PKing, and that’s okay because that’s what a game is for. No angst or permanent character deaths (it is a game after all), tis for warming your heart with the sheer sunny goodness that is the MC. No ecchi. Has an ongoing manga series, but no anime.
Hidan no Aria (Ongoing Translation, Completed Series): MC goes to a 'military’ school that trains students to be armed detectives, or as they say, ‘Butei’ (Busou Tantei). Think mercenaries. Female MC is a OP genius and major tsundere, only out-shadowed by our MC. MC considers himself weak, and because of his genes, his innate OP powers is only triggered when a certain condition is met: aka when he is sexually aroused. (Insert sexy times.) In this mode he doesn’t get flashy superpowers or anything (at least, by the world’s standard) — all it does it accelerate his brain’s thought process, but it gets so OP to the point where can deflect bullets with his own bullets and slice bullets in two with his knife. OP God Mode. This trigger also turns him into a major flirt and gigolo that can’t say no to a girl, which caused him to actively seek to avoid situations where he is in close contact with girls to prevent being triggered. Has a ‘harem’ of girls if you wanna call it that way, but even though the story is halfway translated as of now, it’s obvious he’s fallen for the main female lead. You’d only want to read this story to find out the next BS thing the MC does when he’s triggered, and it can only get higher and higher. Seriously, the moment where he catches a bullet in his teeth (way later in the story) gives you the best feeling ever. To put it in the Female MC’s words: "How about that rating, Kinji? Being classed by the world as a dangerous character who fights non-humans? Tell me how do you like that?” And his words: "–I’m a senior high school student. My grades are slightly below average, and I attend a violent school.”, and his monologue: [At least that was what I want to be. Honestly…] Had a 2011 anime and ongoing manga series, as well as a Yuri spinoff series (as per the usual anime law decreeing that all spinoffs have to have Yuri plot in them, see Soul Eater and Fate Prisma).
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (Completed Translation + Series): Idiots doing idiotic things in school. Interesting battle system, with loads of comedy. Loads. Of. Comedy. No ecchi scenes. Had an two-season anime series in 2010 and 2011, and a manga series.
Chrome Shelled Regios (Completed Translation + Series): Main character is OP but gets debuffed at the very start, tries to restart his life as a normal person but realises that his innate talent for fighting doesn’t allow him to. Has many female love interests but at the end MC only chooses one. ‘Magic’ system works a little differently from conventional sources, nearing more to martial arts style, and telekinesis-telepathy combination rather than enchanting-spell type. What else can I say other than the MC controls a weapon made of thousands of infinitely thin and sharp wires that he uses to slice bugs (the main enemy) up with... which is so badass. (Though his main weapon is a sword.) No ecchi scenes. The sideplot about ‘fate’ and the history of the setting gets a little confusing though. This had an anime, but since the director died right before the 2009 anime ended it’s unlikely that a second season will come out. It does have a manga side plot series that is completed and a great accompaniment to the main light novel.
CubexCursedxCurious (Completed Translation + Series): MC lives in a house that is apparently so holy that cursed weapons journey there to get purified and lift their cursed. Oh yeah, and some cursed weapons can turn into people too (Soul Eater style?). Wielding the weapons will obviously give you great power, but it also has serious drawbacks, e.g. A sword cursed to be able to slice through anything, drawback is that their owner will be consumed by bloodlust and is compelled to draw blood with that sword (in other words, the old regular cursed sword rule). MC is of course immune to curses (and so he can wield that sword) because he was born in that holy place. Female lead is originally a torture device made of 32 different torture tools, including Iron Maiden, Guillotine, Pendulum, etc. Literally the first scene is the female lead found naked (since her real form is a mcfreaking cube I would not be surprised) in the MC’s kitchen looking for food to eat so let there be a representative of the subsequent ecchi scenes to be found. The cursed tool system is cool, anyway. MC doesn’t end up with anyone is particular. Plus point: Not all female characters introduced are in love with the male MC. Just three (3) girls. Also, the second light novel doesn’t feature the ‘second’ heroine’s backstory arc like a lot of light novels do... but instead a couple of a girl and a genderfluid character. Cool stuff. Had a 2011 anime and (very behind) manga series.
Other more well known ones:
Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku (Up to Date Translation, Ongoing Series): Think Battle Royale x Danganronpa x the Mahou Shoujo Trope. Lots of blood and death, so don’t bother if you don’t want to see your favourite character die/put through lots of angst and depression. Each Magical Girl has different superpowers and you’d only want to read it in hopes of seeing your favourite character live to the end/have a cool death scene/have cool action scenes in general. One of the underlying themes was that it’s not a given that powerful people will always win; the strong can be overthrown by the weak (I can think of at least two occasions), a person can win a killing game without any blood on their hands, and the magical government is pretty much corrupt. Had a recent 2016 anime series and a manga series.
Hyouka (Up to Date Translation and Series): Based on Agatha Christie stories, think mysteries but without any actual murder.
And then I’ll throw in a few English books to show that I have good taste in books:
Captive Prince by CS Pacat: Gayyyyy + lots of politics. THE ROMANCE THOUGH.... enemies to tentative friends to hostile ‘ah we’re supposed to be on opposing sides as enemies of each other’s nation’ to lovers YEAAHHHHHHH. Some parts are explicit, yeah.
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan: MC was dragged into a magical military academy in a magical land to be a child soldier, but instead of being typical Harry Potter he is snarky, sarcastic and actually raises valid questions like why the heck are they raising child soldiers??? Bisexual icon male MC who is also a pacifist I love him he must be protected
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: War story narrated by a spy who was caught by enemy soldiers and forced to reveal her state secrets in the form of written narrative. Mystery and unreliable narrator time! If you can survive the first few draggy chapters and then a little more the reveal is SO. REWARDING. Female MC.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett: I tried recommending this to my friend and sadly I realised that if you have no background knowledge on Christianity and what the apocalypse details you may not find this interesting. It’s a shame because it’s so funny. EDIT: I’m so glad it got a TV series??? That means more people will read the book, which is amazing, right???
The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope: Female MC and the story of her ancestor’s romances (think short story-style but all connected together). Straight romance. Female MC.
Any book by Brandon Sanderson: Yes. Just… yes.
Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn: A bastard girl stays in the castle with her royal relatives for the summer. (If you’re wondering there is discrimination against her as a commoner but overall she is loved by her family there.) Somehow the only page I have bookmarked in this book is the part near the end where the MC commits royal crimes, and is slapped by the king, giving the reader no small amount of satisfaction. Fantasy-style with small amount of political intrigue, female MC is a apprentice hedgewitch so she knows herbal knowledge (which is a prominent part of the book when she uses it?). Anyway, please read.
A Posse of Princesses by Sherwood Smith: Female princess MC is invited to a large one week (?) party with the other country’s princes and princesses to celebrate this big county’s prince’s great birthday or smth. Some political intrigue and also great plot twist. At the end of it I got really invested in the romance between the side characters bc they were really well developed lol..
The Queen’s Thief Series by Megan Whalen Turner: The third book is my favourite book because I love the MC (Costis!!!!!), bless his innocent soul (COSTIS!!!!!!) caught up in the nefarious plots of the first book MC. Little romance and more of political plots.
Warriors by Erin Hunter: I had to include at least one joke book and this was it. Anyway this was the series I grew up reading, honestly the third series had the best MC in the blind, grumpy, no-nonsense healer who is so refreshingly different from a normal ‘hero archetype’ MC. (*whisper* You gotta talk about the furries, troof!) Oh. Oh yeah, they’re all cats.
#troofless stuff#living trooflessly#I just finished reading Rakuin no Monshou and it ended satisfactorily#troofless reads books

You don’t need to be online to access any of the content, and the analog-look design ensures that the multimedia materials never get in the way of a good, old-fashioned read. This is a very large file (200 MB), and it works best on an iPad. http://bit.ly/2VuZo6z

From the royal wedding to World Cup mania: The biggest news stories of the year in 2018 - Evening Standard
2018 was an enormous year in the world of news, from the nation united in joy for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, to Britain facing months of chaos over Brexit, here’s a look back at the biggest stories of the year.
January
Trump abandons UK visit
Donald Trump scrapped plans to visit the UK for the opening of a new £750m embassy. He backed out due to fears he would not be welcome in the country, and the possibility of mass protests.
Mr Trump confirmed the decision on Twitter but put it down to his disapproval of the location and price of the new embassy.
He wrote: “Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars.
“Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!”

The UK was battered by blizzards, strong winds and widespread disruption when the Beast from the East combined with storm Emma to create some of the worst weather Britain had experienced for decades.
Red weather warnings were issued across the country, with roads and rail grinding to a standstill and up to 20 inches of snow falling on high ground.
17 people died during the extreme cold spell, which lasted from February 24 until March 4.
A mini Beast from the East followed two weeks later.
March
Salisbury poisonings
Amber Rudd visits police cordon in Salisbury
Sergei and Yulia Skripal suddenly collapsed in the centre of Salisbury on March 4, sparking an international diplomatic incident.
Samples tested at nearby Porton Down revealed the father and daughter had been poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent, which was believed to have come from Russia.
Russian spy ‘poisoning’: Sergei and Yulia Skripal spent weeks fighting for their lives in hospital (PA)
Large areas of the sleepy cathedral town, including the Zizzi where they had eaten, were sealed off while police investigated.
It led to 153 Russian diplomats being expelled from 29 countries.
Cambridge Analytica
Mark Zuckerberg: ‘sorry’ for Cambridge Analytica Facebook ‘breach of trust’
The company was exposed in March for harvesting data from more than 50 million Facebook profiles without people’s consent.
The data was used to predict the choices of and influence voters. The scandal emerged after whistleblower Christopher Wylie went public.
It caused a massive drop in Facebook’s value and sparked international criticism of Mark Zuckerberg and the firm’s working practices.
Zuckerberg was eventually forced to testify before congress.

Hundreds of thousands of students joined the March for Our Lives in Washington DC on March 24 following the Parkland school shooting.
They called for stronger gun control measures, and asked for measures which had been introduced in Florida, such as banning bump stocks and raising purchase ages, to be rolled out across the country.
Satellite protests also took place in New York City, Los Angeles, Portland and Chicago.

England’s World Cup journey kicked off on June 18 with a 2-1 victory against Tunisia, turning the nation into football experts and filling up pubs for the rest of the month.
Our incredible 6-1 win against Panama, including a hat trick from Kane, felt like it united the nation.
The team even managed to win one game, against Colombia, on penalties, despite our reputation for bombing out in shootouts.
Despite it finally feeling like football was coming home, England were knocked out on July 11 in a 2-1 semi-final defeat by Croatia.

Brexit sparks leadership crisis for PM
Theresa May on March 29, 2017, after she announced Article 50 had been triggered (PA)
The Government was thrown into even more chaos in December when at least 48 MPs submitted letters of no confidence in Theresa May to the 1922 Committee, prompting a vote over her leadership.
The letters came flooding in after Mrs May agreed the terms of Britain’s withdrawal from Europe.
She survived the vote with a majority of 83, with 200 voting for her and 117 voting against.
She secured victory after announcing that she would not run for PM in the next General Election planned for 2022, but her Brexit plan has not yet been agreed on by MPs and the UK is facing the prospect of leaving the bloc with no deal in place.
