You called?
just a little idea i’ve had for a while…
Let’s just say that Barista doesn’t know their birth father. He just wasn’t in their life, that’s all. They don’t know who he is and their mother/other parent never speaks of him. It’s fine, it happens.
But imagine they bring it up to Elias, saying how much they wish they could atleast know who he is.
Warden, either by overhearing this or being told by Elias, goes out of his way to find documentation of Barista’s birth father, with permission and confirmation from their other parent.
However, Warden didn’t expect to be familiar with the name.
He had no idea that his rival, leader of the Penance, Morgan, had an heir.
#just an idea ☺️#should i write this haha#it’s kinda giving wattpad lmao#saku take notes ‼️ /j#it may just be me…#is somebody gonna match my freak#zsakuva#sakuverse#zsakuva elias#elias x reader#elias sakuverse#sakuverse elias#elias zsakuva#detective mint on the case#detective mint

Happy Halloween!
Spending Halloween with Sakuverse men (Ft. Dontis, Kayson Mayer, Isaac Rhoades, Xanthus Claiborne, Andrew Marston, and Elias) Happy Halloween!
Dontis
Descending down the stairs, his black cape trailed softly. Along with his attire is a poet blouse and black slacks. To top it off, he wore fake plastic fangs. He was very proud of his chosen costume. Incredibly proud.
"What the fuck?" Xanthus looked at him up and down, recognizing his costume.
"What? Did you not like my costume?" Dontis grinned, posing for him.
"No, take it off." Xanthus replied sternly, crossing his arms as he continued to glare at him.
Dontis only smirked, enjoying the irritation in his face. "Straight to the point, I like it." His grin widened at his scoff and eye roll.
Xanthus held back a groan from his teasing, "You know what, just go. Your hunter needs you more than we do."
"Don't miss me!" Dontis chuckled as he heads towards the door.
New Orleans is as lively as ever, the streets were filled with people in costumes, decorations from different establishments, and confetti littered the floor. He made his way through the crowd, greeting "trick or treat" with a smile to others as he passed by. As he arrived at the destination, he made a beeline towards you.
"Happy Halloween!" Dontis greeted with a wide smile.
"Happy Halloween," You replied, raising a drink to him. It felt strange. The man– incubus– that you tied to your basement is now beside you, celebrating a holiday. It was a sudden twist of fate, but you wouldn't have it the other way.
"I'm glad you decided to celebrate this with me," His gaze soft as he turned to you.
You gave him a nod, not wanting to show how flustered and charmed you are towards him, but you know that he can see through you. "I should be the one thankful. I'm sure that you have plenty of ways to spend this occasion."
A hearty laugh escaped his lips, "Please, you're on top of my list when it comes to these occasions. I can't set you aside, especially when you made an effort to dress like a pirate."
You rolled your eyes, "It's nothing. I just put on whatever I can."
"Still, I appreciate your effort." Dontis spoke, planting a soft kiss on your knuckles. Holding his hand out, he looked at you with his charming gaze, "So, are you ready to go trick and treating?"
Kayson Mayer
"Babe, a little help please?" You called him out as you tried to reach the highest point of the wall so you can decorate it. Since it's Halloween, decorating the house became your hobbies whenever you both have spare time.
"Babe?" Your brows furrowed, it never took that long for Kayson to answer to your calls. With a sigh, you put the banner down to find Kayson yourself.
"Kayson, where are you?" You continued to call out.
As you arrived upstairs, you made a beeline to your shared room. Opening the door, you're welcomed with darkness, except for the faint light in the corner of the room.
"Kay—"
"My angel of music has arrived!" He exclaimed, raising the lantern that was hidden on his cape to his face, revealing a white mask that covered his face.
"Alright, Erik. Now let's go back to decorating or a disaster beyond your imagination will occur."
You turned the light on, causing him to let out a small 'aww'. A chuckle escaped your lips as you realized that he's only wearing the cape and the mask as his costume. No wonder why the lights are off.
"I was feeling it." He sighed.
"I can see that."
Kayson put the lamp down and removed the mask and the cape. "Did you like my costume?" He eagerly asked with a smile on his face.
"No."
His smile fell.
"I loved it."
Kayson grinned at your answer, "I knew it. I'm so excited to wear the full costume and give out candies!" He beamed.
"We will, but first, let's finish decorating. Okay?"
He nodded, kissing your cheek. "This is gonna be one of the best Halloween ever. I'll make sure of that, my angel of music."
Isaac Rhoades
Occasions like these are something that Isaac never bothered with. He lived like an island, isolated from others for his job and safety. Isaac only spent those holidays with himself and his job, he knew that these occasions does not stop other people from doing whatever what they want to others.
But now, he found himself focused in front of the pumpkin, not minding the mess from the carving.
"No peeking," Isaac caught your eyes towards his carvings.
"I wasn't." Returning to your work with a small huff as he caught you. It was your suggestion to have a little pumpkin carving competition with Isaac and you're glad he agreed.
You searched for the face your should do for the pumpkin, settling on the one where they have cresent eyes, triangular nose, and sharp grin. It was nerve-wracking since it's your first, but there's no way you're backing out.
As you secretly glanced at him, you can't help but wonder what his design was. Isaac looked relaxed as he continued to carve; from time to time he'd look at his phone for reference, then he'll continue his carving. You silently admired him, the way he's so concentrated towards his work stirred something in you.
"Tadaaa!" You presented the carved pumpkin in front of him with pride. There may be some rough edges, but the pumpkin looked better than you expected.
Isaac nodded at the reveal, "That's very good."
"Really? Are you conceding?"
"Not quite," Isaac finally presented his pumpkin. It had horn-like eyes, triangular nose, and stitches as a grin. It looked horrifying.
You stared at it for a while, speechless at his skill and the neatness of his design. Against your pride, you admit that he won the competition.
"Is this good?" Isaac asked. You don't know if he's boasting or he's genuinely asking.
"Good? That's scary."
Isaac chuckled, "So I won?"
You nodded, "I'm not even mad that you did."
He walked towards you, cupping your cheeks, "At least yours are still good. I like it."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
"Maybe next year I'll beat you."
Isaac smiled, heart melting at the thought of another year with you, "Yes, maybe next year."
Xanthus Claiborne
"This recipe is passed down through generations."
"I believe you," You replied as you began preparing the ingredients.
To celebrate the Halloween, you both decided to bake some spooky themed cookies. The idea was exciting, especially when it's something that you wanted to try with him. Checking all the ingredients, you were now ready to bake with him.
Xanthus was hands on– very hands on. He'll guide your hand as you bake, teaching you how to do it just like what the recipe says. You didn't mind his clingy behavior towards you. In fact, you found his excuses to touch you hilarious.
"That smells delicious. I think you're a professional, love," He praised as you continued to mix the batter.
"It was your recipe. No wonder why it was passed down through generations."
As you finished, you gently put the batter on the tray on its mold. Xanthus helped preheat the oven, making sure it's on the right temperature. Finally, both of you popped the tray in the oven, waiting for it to cook.
You head snapped towards the oven as you heard the soft ring. Wearing your kitchen gloves, you opened the oven, grabbing the tray where the cookies are. "They look delicious," Excitement is evident in your voice as you placed the tray on the counter.
"Careful, love. You need to cool it down a bit before we decorate it."
You nodded, fanning the tray with your hands. After it cooled down, Xanthus brought the frosting as you both began decorating the cookies.
"I knew it, it's so delicious," You sighed in satisfaction as you took a bite of the cookies you both made.
"Not as delicious as you," He winked, kissing your cheek, causing your cheeks to heat up at the gesture. "This is the best Halloween ever," Xanthus added.
"Why?" You turned to him with brows furrowed.
"Because I get to spend it with you."
Andrew Marston
"I think that's all of it," He smiled as he poured all the candies to the jack-o-lantern container.
You let out a sigh of relief, ticking one task off the to do list. You and Andrew decided to celebrate Halloween by having a movie night with all the classic scary movies you can find. So far, the preparation is going as smooth as ever.
Andrew helped you prepare the snacks. Once you both finished, you flopped down the couch, letting his arms wrap around you as the movie began to play.
"I wonder what costumes we're going to see later," He hummed, tracing soft circles on your skin, eyes focused on the film.
"I'm so excited, I'm sure they're all adorable."
"Or scary."
You gasped as an idea came to your mind, "Maybe we should dress up next Halloween."
Andrew smiled, open to that thought, "Any characters you want?"
"Maybe we can try being the sun and moon? Angel and devil? Or thing 1 and thing 2!"
Andrew let out a chuckle at your enthusiasm, "Seems like you already have a list."
"I do and I'm very excited to try it with you."
"So am I," He leaned in, planting a soft kiss on your lips as he looked forward to another Halloween with you.
Elias
"I wish I was Dr. Doom," Elias sighed as he came out with a green plaid polo and green pants.
"You lost the game, it's all fair." You spoke, taking off the mask to properly look at him. "Now slowly turn around for me," You chuckled as you began filming him.
Elias slowly turned around, showing off his costume, "Thank god you didn't ask for a wig."
A gasp escaped your lips, "Oh my god, maybe we should get one!" You teased, trying to rile him up further. As his face contorted into horror, you can't help but laugh harder.
"No way! It wasn't part of the deal. You said dress– just dress! No wig or whatsoever," Elias protested.
"I know," You stopped the recording, walking towards him. "You're the most handsome Isabelle I've ever seen," A soft smile plastered on your lips as you pinched his cheek.
"Really?" He muttered, still wearing his small pout.
"Uh huh."
He finally smiled, holding your hips, "I'll be Isabelle as long as you're Dr. Doom."

Dress To Impress
↳ Elias and Jonah play Dress To Impress ↳ 419 words
“Where is the sleep mask?”
“Man, I don’t know, it got moved around with the update—“
“The theme is sleepwear, I need the mask—“
“Do you sleep with a mask?”
“No but it’s about the implications, Elias.”
Jonah said, rechecking the mannequin the mask used to be on and, sure enough, it was nowhere to be found.
“Maybe you should.” The other’s voice lifted through the headset. “Isn’t it midnight over there? Get some sleep dude.”
“Nah.”
And so they kept playing.
It was a bit at first. The Roblox game had a sudden boost in popularity and Jonah, always ready to follow the trends of his fellow streamers, suggested to Elias they play it beforehand to get a feel.
That was two weeks ago. The stream had come and gone but they kept playing, often well into the night. Neither expected it to be so addictive. Nor to get so invested.
As the timer ticked down slowly, Jonah relaxed a bit, accepting that the outfit was complete — sleep mask or not.
That calm immediately fell when the runway music started and he was on first.
Elias cackled as he heard the clicks of a madman — Jonah’s mouse, already obnoxiously loud due to it being right next to his mic, whipped through about eight different poses before his avatar was off the runway.
“Bit slow on the draw there,” he said as the character launched into the infamous pose 12 and Jonah failed to recover in time.
“Shush.”
The rest of the runway went in standard fashion. Elias was a bit more graceful with the posing, using strictly animated ones and with moments to breathe between them.
Which may have been the reason he landed second place.
‘Ty!’ Elias typed in chat — a common courtesy — while Jonah took off all his items to prepare for next round.
“Maybe you would have gotten podium if you had your sleep mask.”
Jonah laughed. “Maybe.”
“You really should go to sleep.”
“After this round.”
Elias huffed. “You’re addicted.”
“You’re the one who bought VIP!”
Elias’ webcam betrayed his humorously guilty look.
A moment after the intermission’s time ran up and the new theme was announced.
“Renaissance?” They read together.
Jonah immediately turned to his other monitor and typed in “renessaince dress to impress,” scrolling through the images tab and analyzing their outfits.
“This is a harder theme…” Jonah muttered. The game was dominated by modern clothing. How was he supposed to replicate the Renaissance era? “Elias?”
“…I’m dressing as Beyoncé.”

✧·˚ elias shows you his tattoos
your fingers are gentle as you trace over the healed ink on elias’ warm bare skin, it’s enough to make his heart skip a beat or two. elias watches as your focused eyes are glued to his chest, scanning over his large chest piece.
“did it hurt?” you ask softly, eyes still glued to the intricate details of the piece.
“definitely one of my more painful tattoos, when they did my sternum it felt like my whole body was vibrating.” he says, his hands playing with the hem of your shirt and soon finding their place on your hips.
elias loved when you sat on his lap, you always seemed so comfortable there, like it was where you belonged.
“did you use numbing cream?”
“nah i powered through it like a champ.”
“something tells me you most certainly did not take it like a champ.” you laugh and elias pinches your sides playfully.
“hey tattoos are painful!”
"right right i'm sorry, you're very brave for enduring the pain." a silence falls on both of you as you continue tracing the healed ink on his chest. "you know i've thought of getting a tattoo before all this happened and i have to say, i'm definitely getting one after this is all over."
elias smiles and thinks your words over for a moment, 'after all this is over.'
"i don't know if i ever apologized properly to you," your hand stills on his chest as you lock eyes with him. "i'm sorry i dragged you into all this and that you have to live your life from inside this safe house."
"i appreciate the apology, but i don't think its necessary. you saved my life elias, if you didn't 'drag me into all this' i would be dead. so i think i'll be okay living in this house with you for a little longer." your hand brushes a stray hair from his face and you place a small kiss on his cheek.
elias turns to meet your eyes and he can’t help be notice how lovingly you look at him, like he’s hung every star in the sky. he’s only seen this kind of look once; with his parents, but then he remembers how that ended. he quickly looks down at his hands and tries to redirect the conversation again to a different tattoo.
“i think this one was the least painful.” he clears his throat and holds his forearm up a bit to show you the ink he is speaking of and you once again trace over the lines of it gently to really take in the artistry of the fine lines.
“i like the thin lines of this one, it makes it look like a finished sketch.”
“yeah i like the thin lines too.” he looks at you again unintentionally. he can’t help how naturally he’s drawn to you.
“would you come with me to get my first tattoo?” a soft smile paints your features after you ask elias the question.
“yeah i would love that.” he matches your happy expression. “i can hold your hand if it gets to be too much, i mean only if you want me to—”
“i would love that.” you take his hand in yours and give him that look again and elias can feel his face grow hot at the close proximity.
your free hand trails over elias’ chest tattoo once more and elias feels himself leaning back on instinct as you lean in closer. your eyes flicker to his parted lips only for a moment before they return to his eyes. you feel his heart rate speed up at your action and you can’t help but let out a soft chuckle.
“do you want me to kiss you elias?”
his heart beat is now thundering in his ears and he nods faster than he means to.
your lips connect as soon as his head stills and he’s eyes flutter shut. he feels like a teenage boy who just got his first kiss even though he knows this isn’t his first kiss with you nor the last. something about the whole scene felt so intimate, the tattoo tracing, close proximity, everything.
elias’ hand finds its way to your cheek and traces your jawline down to your neck all while he deepens the kiss.
“you know” elias says in between kisses. “i was thinking maybe we could…” you pull away to let him finish talking, a string of saliva connects the both of you before you quickly wipe it away with a giggle, elias smiles and clears his throat before sitting up.
“maybe we could get matching tattoos together, only if you’d want to of course! i just though cause we’re gonna be bonded for life no matter what so why not have something physical that ties us to each other.”
“i would love that, let’s get little stars on a the side of our wrists!”
“you been thinking about this?” elias asks as you snuggle into his side on the couch.
“maybe. i’ve always liked that idea of small simple matching tattoos.”

Mommy’s little helper
Elias and Tara
The kitchen was filled with the comforting scent of vanilla and sugar, a warm haven in the heart of the house. Flour dusted the countertops, a bag of chocolate chips stood ready, and mixing bowls clattered softly as Tara pulled out the final ingredients.
“Alright, Elias,” Tara said with a smile, tying a small apron around her son’s waist. The apron was far too big for him, the ends trailing on the floor, but he beamed with pride as if he were the head chef. “Ready to help Mommy make cookies?”
Four-year-old Elias, with his messy mop of dark hair and wide, curious eyes, nodded eagerly. “Yeah! Cookies!”
Tara laughed and kissed the top of his head. “Okay, first, we need to mix the butter and sugar. Can you help me scoop it in?”
Elias climbed onto a chair, standing on his tiptoes to peer over the counter. His tiny hands reached for the spoon Tara handed him, and with careful concentration, he scooped a spoonful of softened butter into the mixing bowl. It plopped in with a satisfying thud.
“Good job, sweetheart! Now the sugar.”
Elias grinned, proud of his accomplishment, and grabbed the sugar scoop. This time, however, his hands weren’t as steady. A little too much sugar spilled onto the counter, but Tara didn’t mind. She ruffled his hair and said, “That’s okay. The cookies will just be extra sweet.”
“Like me!” Elias chirped, giggling.
“Exactly like you,” Tara said, chuckling as she began to cream the butter and sugar together.
Elias leaned closer, fascinated by the whirring sound of the mixer. “What next, Mama?”
“We add the eggs,” Tara explained. She carefully cracked one egg into the bowl and handed the next one to Elias. “Here, you try.”
Elias held the egg with both hands, eyes wide with focus. He tapped it gently against the edge of the bowl—too gently at first—until Tara guided him. “A little harder, baby.”
Crack! The egg broke open, and some of it made it into the bowl... while the rest dripped onto his fingers.
“Oops!” Elias gasped, looking up at Tara with big, worried eyes.
“It’s okay, love,” Tara reassured him, grabbing a towel to wipe his hands. “You did great. And messy hands just mean we’re having fun.”
Elias nodded, reassured, and soon the egg was forgotten as they added flour, a pinch of salt, and finally, the chocolate chips.
“Can I stir?” Elias asked, already reaching for the wooden spoon.
“Of course.” Tara handed it over, watching as he mixed the dough with all the strength his little arms could muster.
The spoon was bigger than him, and stirring the thick dough was no easy task, but Elias was determined. His tongue stuck out slightly in concentration, and Tara couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
“You’re doing amazing, Chef Elias,” she praised, kneeling beside him.
“Chef Elias!” he repeated proudly. “I’m gonna make the best cookies ever!”
“I don’t doubt it.”
Once the dough was ready, Tara helped Elias scoop it onto the baking sheet. His cookie blobs were uneven and lumpy, but he clapped his hands in delight.
“They’re perfect,” Tara said warmly.
Elias grinned. “Perfect cookies!”
As the cookies baked, filling the kitchen with their sweet aroma, Elias sat on the floor with a toy truck, occasionally glancing at the oven. “Are they done yet, Mama?”
“Almost,” Tara said, sitting beside him. “Good things take time.”
Elias leaned against her, his little head resting on her shoulder. “I like making cookies with you.”
Tara wrapped an arm around him, pressing a gentle kiss to his hair. “And I like making cookies with you, my little chef.”
When the timer finally dinged, Elias jumped up, excitement bubbling over. Tara carefully pulled the tray from the oven, and the golden-brown cookies looked as perfect as they smelled.
“Can we eat them now?” Elias asked, bouncing on his toes.
“Not just yet. They’re hot.”
Elias pouted but then had an idea. “Can I blow on them?”
Tara laughed softly. “Sure, but we’ll wait just a little bit, okay?”
After what felt like forever to a four-year-old, the cookies cooled enough to taste. Tara handed Elias the first one, still warm and gooey.
He took a big bite, his face lighting up with joy. “Mmm! The best cookies ever!”
Tara smiled, savoring the moment. “Yes, Chef Elias. The best cookies ever.”

“I don’t even know why it matters to you. It’s not like you care.”
“What do you mean? Of course I care!” Elias exclaimed, hurrying behind you as you entered the apartment.
“He’s just a friend. I was just being nice. I don’t see why you have to get so possessive.” You argued back.
He really was just a friend. Sure, you got close to him quickly, but that was harmless. Elias knew you didn’t look at anyone else like that anyway.
“It doesn’t matter, most men don’t think like that. He’s not your friend- he’s waiting to make a move on you.”
“Why do you care? You’re not my boyfriend.”
Elias stopped. Eyebrows furrowed, lips parted, completely taken aback.
“What?”
“You’re not my boyfriend.” You repeated.
You were sick of Elias avoiding commitment with you. He couldn’t tell you who you should and shouldn’t be close to when he wasn’t even stepping over that line with you in the first place.
“That doesn’t-”
“Whatever, Elias.”
“S-so I just mean nothing to you? Everything we’ve been through together, everything we’ve done, it just means nothing?”
“No that’s not- you’re not even listening!”
“Then talk to me!”
You two stood there, staring back at one another. Chests rising and falling quickly, faces tense.
This was a topic you had avoided. And honestly, you were trying to get close to another man on purpose. The purpose? So Elias would finally stop messing around with you. If getting him jealous meant he would want to be exclusive with you, then you were willing to make that happen.
You opened your mouth before closing it and sighing.
“What are we, Elias? We’re always going on dates, but you’re not my boyfriend, but you say you like me, but we’ve never even had a conversation about commitment. I feel like we’re just messing around and you’re not actually serious.”
His gaze softened.
“I am serious about you.” Elias stepped closer to you, eyes locking with yours.
“And I do like you. A lot.” His face was now only inches from yours.
“And I want to be committed to you.” He lifted a finger to hook under your chin, his lips ghosting yours.
“Then commit.” You whispered.
His lips came down onto yours. It was gentle, but you could feel the desire in that kiss. Slowly your lips became more tangled with his, causing a slow blush to rise to your cheeks. As if you already weren’t close enough, Elias pushed against your body, almost trying to get under your skin.
Elias drifted to your neck, leaving wet kisses that burned your skin under his hot breath.
Murmuring, “I’m sorry for not taking this step with you sooner,” while he decorated your body in purple spots.
You let a sigh leave your lips as Elias travelled further down to your collar bone, pulling down the top of your shirt to reveal more skin.
“Elias..”
He hummed into your skin, not moving from where he was kissing your chest.
The guilt filled you. It was too much. You couldn’t let him continue without knowing the truth.
“Elias.” You said louder, getting his attention with the desperation in your voice.
He looked up at you.
“I was doing it on purpose.”
He stood up straight, confused.
“I was getting close to him on purpose. And you weren’t being possessive. I-” You trailed off, realising how shitting your actions were.
“I.. I just wanted your attention. I thought you would want to be in a relationship with me more if you saw me with somebody else.”
Elias was still. Silent.
After taking a breath, he opened his mouth.
“Why would you do that to me? I thought I was being controlling. Why didn’t you just talk to me? Why would you flirt with someone else.. Why..?”
His words died in his mouth.
You could see how hard it hit him. You were stupid to believe he was just messing around with you, it was obvious he cared. And you disregarded it. Why? Wasn’t it good enough for you?
The silence was difficult to break.
“..I guess I was scared that you didn’t want a relationship with me.. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that.”
Elias nodded, but his expression had changed.
“Does that.. change your mind about me? Ugh I feel so guilty.” You threw your hands over your face.
He pulled your hands down from your face gently.
“I want you to be mine, not because I don’t want others to have you, but because I like you. And..” He sighed ”..I wanted us to take our time. B-but taking our time doesn’t mean I want you to get close to other men.”
Shit. What is wrong with you?
You couldn’t speak. Your throat was clogged with emotion.
“To tell you the truth,” Elias continued, “I was scared too. I was scared that I was falling too quickly for you, so I held my feelings back. Maybe I should’ve just been honest, but I didn’t want to pressure you.”
He took a breath, rubbing the nape of his neck.
“I’ve been cautious about getting involved with people since I got cheated on. I know it was ages ago, and she was shitty, but..”
Oh. You fucked up.
“..I don’t want to go through that again. I don’t want to let myself fall for someone who isn’t loyal. So when I began to catch feelings really quickly, I didn’t want to make the mistake of loving someone who would hurt me.”
You blinked through tears. “I’m so sorry.”
You bit the inside of your cheek. How could Elias even look at you the same, let alone want to be in a relationship with you.
“Do you think.. you could forgive me? It was really stupid of me, I’m so sorry.”
You reached out for his hand. He didn’t react.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you. I never wanted to hurt you. I promise.”
“Yeah, well seeing the person I love flirting with someone else hurts.”
There was nothing else you could say or do. You fucked up. This was your fault. You hurt him.
“I’m sorry. Are you okay?”
Elias had to bite back through emotion. Eyes stinging, threatening to spill tears.
“You did it on purpose.”
“I don’t know what I was thinking.”
“Me neither.”
You looked up at him, slightly confused.
Before you could say anything, he turned around towards the door.
“Where are you going?” You asked, concerned.
“Why do you care? I’m not your boyfriend.”
He turned and left.

VENUS ──
pairing: elias x reader (barista)
cw: brief mentions of death, thoughts of murder, religious spiral (?), ptsd(?).
you are responsible for your own media consumption
The world was silent, or at least that’s how it felt. For the only sounds audible were the soft impact of the rain hitting the windows and Elias's occasional coughs—they were deep and throaty, you silently wondered if he had started smoking again.
You stared at him, though you tried not to. His head rested in your lap, the rest of him sprawled across the bed—the picture made the strings on your heart tighten quite uncomfortably. The dim light from the cracked lamp above barely touched his features. Despite the pale glow, you could still make out the sharp lines of his jaw, the way his lips tightened, the way his brows furrowed as he slept.
You reached out a hand—hesitant, almost like you were afraid of waking him—and dragged the pad of your finger along his jaw, then his nose, then finally his lips. He was gorgeous. The gods must have sculpted him, molded him from a dream just to make you suffer, just to make this impossible. But everything about him—his face, the lines of his body, even the roughness in his breath—reminded you of how much you didn't belong here. You shouldn’t be here.
Your heart hammered, the conflicting emotions swirling inside you in a way that made your stomach turn. You shouldn't be thinking about this. You shouldn't feel this. No, you couldn't.
His eyes fluttered open just as your fingers brushed over his lips again, and for a moment, he didn’t speak. He just blinked up at you, those hazy, storm-colored eyes trying to piece together the moment. The seconds stretched, thick and heavy, between the sound of your breathing and his soft coughs. His lips parted, but no words came.
“Watching me while I sleep, huh?”You didn't have to look at him to hear the smirk in his voice, his teasing demeanor always bringing you comfort. You playfully rolled your eyes, looking over at the clock placed on the bedside table for a moment. “11:47 PM,” it read in bright red digital numbering—staring for perhaps a moment too long. Elias noticed, his gaze flicking to the clock before returning to you, a look of confusion on his face. You shook your head, dismissing his curiosity.
“I wanted to see how long you were sleeping for—and I wasn't watching you sleep, I was watching over you.”
Elias let out a hearty laugh. “Yeah? Like that makes any difference. Besides—”
He sat up from your lap, and the absence of his warmth sent a sharp pang through your chest. You barely suppressed the urge to reach out and pull him back, but you quickly squashed it. Don’t be stupid. Elias stretched, his arms reaching high, and you caught a glimpse of the muscles in his back as his shirt lifted slightly. It was impossible to ignore the way your breath hitched, the way he seemed to fill the space around him effortlessly.
“—I should be the one watching over you.” His voice softened as he leaned in and pressed a kiss against your cheek, warm and fleeting. You froze, the contact sending a shock of heat through your skin. Before you could react, Elias pulled away, standing up and walking toward the bathroom.
Your hand instinctively went to your cheek, where the warmth of his lips still lingered, as if trying to hold onto something you didn’t want to let go of. Your fingers brushed over the spot, a mix of confusion and desire spiraling within you. You had to push it down. You had to.
The sudden silence in the room felt deafening as you sat there.
You glanced toward the bathroom door, where Elias had disappeared, your heartbeat still erratic. You should’ve brushed it off, like everything else. Like all the other little moments that had built up over the past few days—casual touches, lingering glances, his protectiveness that you’d tried to convince yourself was just part of the job. But it didn’t feel like part of the job anymore. It felt too personal.
You stood up, suddenly restless, and paced toward the window. The rain beat steadily against the glass, a quiet rhythm that felt like the soundtrack to your thoughts. You had to focus. You had to remember why you were here. You couldn’t let yourself slip. Not now.
The lines between you and him should’ve been clear, and yet, the more time you spent with him, the more it all blurred. You hated that. You hated how easily you were falling into something you couldn’t control.
You heard the soft sound of footsteps behind you, and before you could react, Elias’s voice broke through your thoughts.
“You okay?”
You turned to see him standing in the doorway of the bathroom, his shirt now slightly untucked, hair damp from washing up. There was that look in his eyes again—the same mix of concern and something else, something that made your stomach twist. He wasn’t supposed to look at you like that.
“Yeah,” you said quickly, forcing your voice to sound steady, though it came out thin. “Just thinking.”
Elias didn’t move, didn’t speak for a moment, as though he were giving you space to say more—waiting, always waiting. But when you didn’t, when you didn’t know how to fill the silence, he took a step closer. His presence seemed to fill the room, heavy, undeniable, in a way that made it harder to breathe. You could feel the pull between you, the way it made your pulse spike, your thoughts scatter. What was this?
“You know,” he said slowly, his voice low, “I meant what I said earlier. I’m not letting you get hurt.”
His words cut through you, and a jolt of something—guilt, maybe—ran through your chest. You blinked, a part of you caught off guard by the seriousness in his tone. It wasn’t teasing, wasn’t a joke. He meant it, and that terrified you.
Why is he saying this?
You took a step back, trying to create some distance, but he was already too close. You could feel the heat of him, the weight of his gaze. It pinned you, paralyzed you. Your heart raced. You wanted to say something, to shut it down before it became too real, too dangerous, but your mouth went dry. The words died before they could leave your lips.
"You don’t have to protect me,” you said, though your voice wavered slightly, betraying you. "I’m not some damsel in distress, Elias."
It wasn’t the truth. Not entirely. You wanted to be strong, to believe that you didn’t need anyone, especially him. But in that moment, as he stood there, his eyes locked on yours, something in your chest twisted painfully. And that twist—it hurt.
“Brewhouse, it was—” Your voice caught in your throat, the words sharp and jagged like shards of glass. You could barely speak, couldn’t hold it back anymore. The weight of it all, the confusion, the guilt—it felt too much to bear. Tears pricked behind your eyes, and as they slipped down your cheeks, you didn’t bother to wipe them away. Pathetic. Pathetic. This is pathetic.
The gods had cursed you, surely. They had given you everything you wanted—everything you thought you could never have—and then placed it just beyond your reach.
It was inevitable. You couldn’t stop it. You were already playing the part, playing into fate.
And that realization made the tears fall harder.
Elias was still there, watching you, silent but not unfeeling. For a moment, he seemed lost—unsure of what to do with you, with this. His hand twitched like he might reach for you, but he didn’t.
The silence between you both stretched like an abyss, and you could feel the weight of his presence pressing against you. You had to say something, you had to make this stop.
“I—” You broke off, choking on the words. The guilt, the shame, the suffocating weight of it all left you gasping. “I’m sorry.”
But there was no real apology here, not one that would ever be enough.
Elias didn’t move, but his gaze softened. Not with pity, but something deeper, something that felt more like an understanding of the mess you had become. You heard his footsteps before you saw him, the soft shuffle as he moved closer. Your heart pounded, a mix of relief and dread, as if you weren’t sure whether he was coming to save you or to pull you deeper into the mess you’d made.
Soon you were met with his embrace. Closer. You wanted him closer—needed it, almost. The space between you had never felt so vast, so impossible. It wasn’t just his physical presence that you craved. It was something deeper, something almost primal, like your souls were aching to align, to collide, to become one.
Your eyes fluttered shut as you felt him near, the warmth of his body seeping into yours. It was a pull, magnetic and irresistible, like you were being drawn into the orbit of something dangerous and beautiful at the same time.
And in that moment, you thought—surely, this is it. Surely, this was the moment when everything that had been broken, everything that had been torn apart, could finally fall into place.
But even as your heart ached with the desire to give in, to let him consume you, there was that whisper of something darker beneath it all. A voice in the back of your mind that reminded you that what you wanted might not be what you needed.
And yet, as his breath ghosted over your skin, the voice faded. For a moment, you let yourself believe that maybe—just maybe—this was where you were supposed to be.
“Before—Before my mother died she used to hold me, just like this.” you listen as his heart quickend, “Fresno—”
“Was the worst night of your life, I can tell it hurts you to talk about it so don’t.”
Just as before it felt quiet, the rainfall had lightened up. Elias’s heartbeat against your ear was the only audible sound.
“I never mentioned it was at night.”
—
As you wake, your gaze immediately falls to the clock: “11:59”. You freeze for a moment, the ticking of time louder than it should be. You blink, disoriented, before slowly sitting up.
Your eyes drift over to Elias. He’s curled next to you, his body still, but somehow, impossibly, close. The sight tugs something inside you—a strange warmth, a tenderness you weren't sure you deserved. A small smile tugs at the corner of your lips before you quickly banish it. You can't afford to get too comfortable. Not yet.
You slip out of bed quietly, careful not to disturb him, and reach beneath the mattress for a small, inconspicuous phone—one that, to everyone else's knowledge, had never existed. Your fingers brush the cold metal, and a wave of unease washes over you.
You close the bathroom door behind you, your breath coming in shaky bursts. The weight of what you’re about to do presses down on you, but you push it away. Leaning against the door for a moment, you take a deep breath, trying to steady your pulse. Flipping open the phone, your thumb trembling slightly as you type in those ten digits. Each one feels heavier than the last.
The phone rings, each tone stabbing deeper into your chest. After the fifth ring, a part of you hopes—prays—that no one will pick up. Maybe this life, this fairytale, could go on forever. Maybe you could pretend it all mattered, pretend you weren’t already bound to betray everything, everyone.
But the sixth ring breaks that fragile illusion.
“Hello.”
You swallow hard.
“It’s going as planned,” you say, your voice steadier than you feel. “I don’t believe anyone suspects anything—except James.”
There’s a pause on the other end of the line, the silence sharp, calculating.
“And Warden?” comes the reply, the voice low, deliberate.
You hesitate for just a moment, before answering with certainty. “Not a clue.”
Another beat of silence. Then, “Good. Keep it that way.”
As you hang up you close your eyes for a brief moment, fighting the nausea that rises in your throat. You open the bathroom door, the sound of the hinges almost too loud in the silence, and step back into the room, where Elias lies vulnerable and unaware.
You consider killing him.
Would the gods praise you? Would they see this as a necessary, even noble, sacrifice? You wonder if they would look upon this act as a hero’s final move—a swift, clean cut to end it all, a way to protect everything that’s coming. After all, in the ancient stories, the gods often demanded sacrifices to secure their favor, to ensure the balance of the world. The blood of one to save many. And perhaps, just perhaps, this is your role. The gods have set you on this path, guided your every move toward this moment, and now, it seems so simple. Just one more push, one more violent act to solidify your fate.
It would be easy. There, in his sleep, so unaware. The knife would slip in without resistance, the gods watching as you do what needs to be done. In this twisted version of their will, you are their chosen instrument. You could almost hear their whispers in your ear, urging you on. They are waiting for you to fulfill your purpose. This act would cleanse you, purify you of your doubt, your fear. A quick, merciful end to all of it—no more lies, no more deceit, no more guilt.
You imagine their approval, feel their weight in the back of your mind. You’ve heard the stories—the gods reward those who carry out their will, those who sacrifice without hesitation, without question. They are the ones who survive, the ones who are remembered. You could be one of them. You could be the hero in this sickening play. You could cut away the rot before it spreads, sever the thread of this charade before it consumes you.
But the thought, fleeting as it is, fades just as quickly as it came. As quickly as it appeared, the reality of what you’re thinking crashes in like a wave, sharp and cold. You know what it would cost. You know what it would make you.
The gods may call it justice, they may see you as their chosen hand, but you also know that in the end, they don’t care about you. You’d be a tool, an instrument, to them. In the stories, the gods never cared for the mortals who carried out their bloody commands. They never mourned their lost humanity. The gods reward only obedience, not mercy. They demand sacrifice, but they don’t love those who make it. They’d turn their backs once the deed was done, once you became nothing more than a piece of their cruel game—would it truly be any different from what you are now?
Instead, you sit down on the edge of the bed, your hands shaking as you reach out and brush a strand of hair from his forehead. It’s so soft, so innocent, and it makes your heart ache in a way you don’t know how to explain.
You lean back, your eyes still on him, your breath slow and deliberate. You’ve crossed a line, you know that. But this—this moment, the stillness between you both—feels like something you can hold onto for just a little while longer.
But the truth is, the betrayal has already begun. And now, it’s only a matter of time before the mask you wear starts to crack.
And he’ll never know.
