"fancy seeing you here..." in the middle of downtown, now covered in halloween decorations and buzzing with people. in retrospect, it kind of wasn't that surprising.

elias pursed their lips and nodded, impressed at nyu for sure. that was a school they'd highly considered before going with their final pick. maybe in some universe the two could have crossed paths there. hell, maybe in some universe elias would have run there to be a nobody instead of this small town in the middle of nowhere. they supposed the allure of academia would have been too strong in a bustling city, but there were still hints of it in their home: books littered the place on a multitude of subjects, they had a couple of unfinished manuscripts sitting with capped highlighters and pens on the coffee table and their laptop was always open with way too many tabs, desperately needing to be restarted. "hey, well, you fuckin' did it, didn't you? and i presume in new york you're like... an upper east side darling? or at least the belle of brooklyn?" they were teasing, but they believed it a little too, that this woman would command a strong, loving circle of people who adored her. she just seemed like the type to them. that, paired with the fact that she was possibly famous? elias was highly intrigued by all of the information being presented to them. they could see the shift in charlotte's demeanour, though she seemed to hide it in a smile. "you look exactly like someone i would have seen on the tv as a kid and had a big, gay crush on. so, yeah." they grinned smugly and then went back to sipping their coffee, going over to check how the phone was going charging wise. they left that conversation there but their brows furrowed, head shaking at her assertion. "you haven't done anything close to that. your phone is doing alright, by the way. we got to fifteen percent." they said, turning around to lean against the counter again.

conversing over the hook up hill was the last thing she had been expecting to be discussing in detail with the cute stranger, however it really was a beautiful spot and who was she to gatekeep. the town didn't really have all that much going for it as far as entertainment and things to do and people seemed to make their own fun. chuckling at their idea of the place she shook her head, "not quite. if you're in the area you should check it out, you know, for the view." with elias not seeming too eager to share about their job, charlotte nodded and decided not to ask anymore questions, even though she probably had an endless amount of them.

as the conversation turned back on her, charlotte was more than happy to answer most of their questions, most of which was all on the internet to be found anyway. "it was, i studied at nyu. i worked my ass off to get out of here, hence my lack of teenaged social life," she chuckled, shooting them a playful smile. an eyebrow raised in amusement of their reaction to her assumption, she could tell when people were a little more unplugged than others, so to speak. the questions that followed made her a little more nervous, she didn't think the assumption would leas to these questions and she was looking for every way possible to deflect. the conversation had been nice and she didn't want to ruin that. ever so slightly she winced at the mention of celebrity. it was a word she despised with every fibre of her being, even more so in her private life. "do you think i could pass for one?" she questioned, unable to hold back the dimpled smile, doing her best to match their amusement. "i'm merely just a someone who has made an utter fool of themselves in front of a sweet stranger in their own home." the brunette hoped that what she had said was enough to deter them from their original questions. the only thing she wanted was for people to know her without the celebrity tagline. it wasn't something she had set out for when she started her career, it just kind of happened and it was now something she had to live with.

My Favorite WWE Matches of 2018. In Actual Numerical Order.

10. The Men's Royal Rumble I haven't clapped in pure joy at a Royal Rumble match since 2010. We started with my bae Rusev, we had a sincere iron man in Finn Balor, we had stories for the undercard (behold Woken Matt Hardy. Bray Wyatt and poor, amazing Heath Slater, who eliminated Sheamus on his *birthday*). I almost wept when Rey Mysterio came out at 27, and I was excited throughout. Factor in that ending, which saw Shinsuke Nakamura throw out everyone's expected victor, Roman Reigns, to win it all, and then challenge AJ Styles that minute. What came after wasn't great, but we're all about moments, us wrestling fans. And if you don't think I'm HELLA stoked about this year's Rumble (Jan. 27) hoh SHIT are you wrong.

9. The Six-Pack Challenge (AJ Styles, John Cena, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler), Fastlane Something I noticed about this match immediately was the fact that the most conservative men in it (Styles, Ziggler) wore the most flamboyant tights, baby blue and shocking pink, respectively. Conservative men act out in the weirdest ways. This was a high-stakes spot-fest, a lot of hurling and whirling, a lot of hey-ho and ding dong. If you ask me to recall any of the actual action, I won't be able to. I just remember 22 minutes going by and being really happy afterward. I actually had to look up who was IN the match. Genuinely forgot Corbin was in it, even though he rammed Dolph through a Plexiglass barricade in the match.

8. Mustafa Ali vs. Buddy Murphy, 205 Live, July 3rd Vince McMahon said, after the Network ratings sagged and Enzo Amore got fired, that the Cruiserweight division was "not worth his time." So he turned it over to his son-in-law, Triple H, who fired some honest-to-God life into it. This match was fast, risky, more technically sound than the one live drummer Necrophagist hired, and felt more like a fiery indy show than it has since Alexander and Ibushi tore the house down in the CWC back in 2016. If you were sick of Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin on EVERY RAW this year, this was the little bowl full of coffee beans at Yankee Candle Co. to cleanse the palette. Bonus points for mAybe the most creative use of ring stairs in a one-on-one encounter maybe...ever?

7. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose vs. Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler, Hell in a Cell The first PPV match ol Deano had since his injury, coming back looking like a man made of boulders and pancakes, this match played skillfully off the four dissimilar styles of the four men in it, but it gets this spot mostly for the best finish of a match this year. Seth went for his beautiful superplex-into-falcon-arrow, hitting the first half of it, and then, lifting Dolph for the second bit, hit with Drew's amazing Claymore, sealing the win for Ziggler and McIntyre. Goddamn, it's a thing that still makes me smile.

6. The Men's MITB, Money In the Bank (Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, Rusev, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Kofi Kingston and the Miz) CARNAGE. People falling off ladders! Ladders falling ON people! People deciding they should fall off a ladder onto ladders ONTO PEOPLE! Everyone climbing the actual mountain that is Braun Strowman! Seriously, guys this tall shouldn't be in ladder matches. It's unfair. Does anyone remember that amazing ladder match on Raw between the Undertaker and Jeff Hardy in 2002? Taker was up that ladder in two steps! Glorious carnage. Hard to keep up the energy after a 10-match card, but these men did, and brilliantly. Special mention to Braun, who showcased, through charging, smashing, slapping, and slamming, why he is a real-life Incredible Hulk. And to poor Kevin, who fell maybe 30 feet and wrestled later that same week.

5. Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, Wrestlemania 34 I'm getting this out of the way now, because I thought it the instant it happened and I still think it; Trips and Steph's doings at Mania are their foreplay. When she came out at Mania 32 with a skull mask on, channeling Rita Repulsa and Immortan Joe with all her theatrical screaming about destiny in a floor-length coat, bustier and fishnets OVER tights, she and Triple H conceived a daughter that night. When Rousey trapped Stephanie in that armbar for almost a minute, while she writhed and screamed "NO, OH GOD NO, PLEASE NO, I'M BEGGING YOU, DON'T" in a skin-tight leather jumpsuit, I have no doubt they were trying to conceive another child. Aside from that, Kurt proved he still had it, Rousey shocked the world by being REALLY GOOD at this dumb bullshit in her debut match, and it proved to be the show-stealer at a decent Wrestlemania. It was also the ONLY time Rousey's eye makeup looked even halfway good, which is it's own feat, a year into her run.

4. Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles, TLC After two years, Daniel Bryan went from an amazing recovery, to an amazing return, to...just another mid-carder, feuding with, of all people, Big Cass. We fans of D-Bry (my current avatar) were kind of sad. We were happy that he was doing what he loved again after lesions on his brain kept him from it, but we were sad that a man so GOOD was doing so little with his prodigious talents. Like your friend who's amazingly good at guitar but has resigned himself to playing in a Wallfowers cover band. Then he went mad...again. Not because of 18 seconds, not because of his girlfriend or his tag team partner, but because he was SICK of the WORLD. Relatable. They will be remembered as two of the best in the business, forever, and this will be on the highlight reel. Another ingenious finish, too, as the Phenomenal Forearm was ducked, then the running knee was ducked into an inside cradle, which was then reversed. It was so good. It made Bryan look like who he is; fortunate, skilled and cunning. AND THEY'RE FIGHTING AGAIN AT THE RUMBLE. <3 <3 <3

3. The Gauntlet Match on the Feb 19 Raw (John Cena, Braun Strowman, Elias, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, the Miz) A Raw main event that went over 2 HOURS. And it was shown as one of the highest rated segments on Raw in literal years. It was a showcase for Elias, who is amazing. It also dumped Reigns early, surprising everyone. Most importantly, it showed that Seth Rollins is maybe the best ring general of all time. It showed that if he wanted he could carry a match with a wet paper towel and people would be invested. By no means show this to someone getting into wrestling for the first time...unless you show them the final two participants. Then absolutely show them. That is wrestling's essence distilled.

2. Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar, Survivor Series AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA oh my HEAVENS. Proof that when Brock cares, he can still go, and proof that Daniel Bryan is the literal best in the world. Years of what-if and hype actually delivering is pretty freeing and wonderful. The phrase "big fight feel" gets lobbed around a lot in wrestling. This is genuinely one of the few times it worked. Like watching Jeff Bridges as the Dude try and bring down Galactus. And almost succeeding.

1. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair, Evolution There is no way this match happened. These women love and support one another and good GOD does it show in how they carried themselves. The ultimate blow-off showdown, the best use of weapons in any match maybe ever, the crowd literally roaring and bellowing, the stiffest possible punches and spots, Charlotte rising from under a pile of announce chairs, and that climactic powerbomb off the apron. Becky Lynch IS wrestling right now, and Charlotte should be with her when she tears down the world.

elias had been staring at the bottle of red wine for far too long. the pretty note tied around the neck with ribbon beckoned them to inspect it, to give in and type the number into their phone. usually they wouldn't hesitate like this, if the cues were there, but they didn't want to make a misstep with charlotte. even if sending them a bottle of wine and her number was relatively forward. tapping their fingernails against the table, they rolled their eyes, reaching into their jean pocket to fish out their phone finally. it was a swift roll downhill from there, the number typed and before they knew it they were listening to the ring of the phone, staring down at the screen as they pressed the loudspeaker button. elias was almost in a trance until the voice on the other end answered and they took a second to regain composure before they responded. "hey. uh, it's elias. y'know, just in case you're in the habit of giving your number out with bottles of wine regularly." they chuckled. "any chance you're up to dinner? maybe even splitting this bottle of red, after?"

elias snorted at her confidence. "you'd be surprised. egotistical or intoxicated men, even if they're like five foot two... they get this burst of bravado with me sometimes." their eyes widened as they recalled memories of bizarre behaviour from some of them, but thankfully this kind of security work they usually did tended to mean they weren't often around many people. it was late nights seeing no one at all and usually watching something on their phone as they sat in an empty building. their ability to brave creepy hallways had made life easier for them, they supposed, since the job wasn't for everyone. it paid fairly decently too, not the best they'd ever had (or even close to it), but in a small town like this one? it worked. they hadn't noticed, though, how out of place they'd still felt until charlotte came into their life. they probably wouldn't have even attended a fair like this prior to her walking into their life, let alone gone on a ride like this one. as they settled into the car, elias held onto her hand, grinning eagerly as the ride began and the small jump scares and frightening visuals began. they weren't entirely immune, but everything that caused a physical reaction only made them laugh hard, especially as they watched charlie react to it.

their arm extended out, wrapping around her to keep her close as she buried herself into their side and the ride continued much the same, growing in intensity as the rollercoaster component became more prominent. they raced around the track towards the end, swooping past terrifying faces and haunting noises. before elias knew it the ride was over and they were out of their seat first, holding out a hand to help charlie up. "you okay?" they were struggling with how hard they were laughing at the whole thing, amused by how scared she got. as she stepped out of the cart they drew her close, peppering her cheek in kisses. "you survived." they muttered by her ear teasingly, guiding her away slowly as they made sure she really had been enjoying herself despite the screams.

every inch of charlotte's body was alert to what elias had said, the way their voice lowered as they ducked their head. the hairs stood on the back of her neck, goosebumps covered her skin as she bit down into her lip attempting to hide her cheeky smile. more than anything she wanted to tempt them, the need to be closer to them so strong within her. she hadn't been able to get enough of their short lived goodnight kiss at the conclusion of their date. "and if i wanted to tempt you? what are you going to do about it?" maybe their kiss being interrupted had been a blessing in disguise as the tension between them was thickening, the want, the need. forever the romantic, there were certain experiences charlotte held out for to share with someone special to her, so many missed opportunities she hoped would come back around and it seemed like they were just starting to. "i don't think anyone is game enough to challenge all six foot, one of you." which was something she loved, the fact that she felt so safe around them, something that had nothing to do with the fact they were a security guard and everything to do with who they were as a person.

as she was moved in front of them, charlotte leaned into elias' body as their arms fell over her shoulders, her hands reaching to link with theirs. everything felt light as she stood their content against them, making small talk with them, resisting thoughts of kissing them in front everybody. charlotte jumped into the small cart with a spring in her step, watching on as elias sat down beside her, surprised their tall frame fit easily. her eyes fell to their hand as she reached out to take it, linking their fingers together. her head fell to easily to their shoulder as she nodded, "i'm ready." charlotte was an easy scare and given her career, for good reason. she'd had her fair share of obsessed individuals trying to access her. as the cart began to make it's way up and along the track, it didn't take long for the older woman to start jumping at the unexpected jump scares that she should have been expecting. each squeal was followed by a bunch of giggles as the track turned and dipped. feeling someone touch her shoulder she squealed once more as her body shivered and jumped before burying herself into elias' side. scares aside, charlotte was having the time of her life, the laughter causing her stomach to ache. her life was exactly where it was meant to be.

"don't tempt me, we're out in public." elias' voice dropped lower, their head ducking to say it as they felt that brief spark of want that they did their best to quash, even if just for now. it'd pop back up again, they already knew that much, but they weren't rushing things with charlie. much the opposite, if the neighbour who'd interrupted their goodnight kiss had anything to say about it. though she was just being naive and not necessarily homophobic, elias regretted not spending the entire night all over charlotte. they like how easy things are with her, though, that they can be casually affectionate and not rush it all. they laughed softly at her request and nodded. "of course." they promised, grinning back at charlie when they saw how big her smile was. their brows lifted in acknowledgement, surprised that she hadn't been on the ride before. "i'll keep my wits about me." with that, elias tugged charlie in front of them, leaning their arms on her shoulders as they continued to wait in line, making idle small talk. once they reached the front, they let her get into the cart first and then as they were both strapped in, they held their hand out. "ready?"

as elias caught her wrist with their hand, the brunette couldn't help but giggle, her smile radiating as they took her icing covered finger in their mouth. the giggle died down as she watched them, her eyes trained on their mouth, an image that she was sure was burnt into her brain. as they dropped her hand, the corners of her lips curled up once more in amusement, "i'll feed you the entire cupcake if that's how you want to play." charlotte had never felt more carefree in her life, already she was having a ball simply being in their presence, joking and goofing around. standing next to them she did feel tiny, "you better take good care of me then, keep me close and safe." feeling the kiss against her head, charlie's heart soared, her smile once again radiated so brightly. as elias took her hand, gently charlotte entwined their fingers. "i have not, i've been holding out for someone to ride with. i'd say to expect a few jump scares, maybe your senses to get tingled." no matter what else was to happen throughout the night, nothing could dampen how she felt. finally living her truth with someone who was stealing her heart.

"careful." elias could have let her teasingly wave that finger in their face, but they couldn't help themselves but to catch her wrist, playfully and swiftly popping it between their lips for the icing on it before they dropped it, laughing. they enjoyed getting to be like this with charlie, even if what was going on between them had no particular label just yet. they felt secure in it, enjoying the way she teased them right back and leaned into them comfortably. "probably a good idea, we wouldn't want you getting swept away on the wind. you're just so fuckin' tiny." they said, amping up their pretend concern for a second as they walked. the sincerity that followed after a moment made elias smile fondly down at her, swallowing as they looked ahead once more, making sure they didn't run into other people as they made their way over to the bustling line. "i'm glad i came too." they said, voice a little softer now as they leaned in, pressing a kiss into her hair just because it felt right. as they found the line, elias found her hand, feeling a little like a giddy teenager. "have you been on this before? give me the scoop, should i prepare to be terrified?"

charlotte watched on as her two favourite people interacted with a smile, knowing full well her sister was going to interrogate her once they were alone. she'd rarely, if ever introduced anyone to her family but everything about this was and felt different. amused, her eyes fell to their finger taking icing off her cupcake, following it to their mouth. she couldn't help but wonder if they knew what they did to her. charlotte subtly licked her own lips, as she watched them, memories of their kiss flooding her mind. "did you want some more?" she chuckled, taking some icing onto her finger and placed it against their lip playfully giggling. as elias agreed to her suggestion, she couldn't help but feel giddy, even more so feeling them wrap their arm around her, yet their words got away from her for a moment before she processed what they had said. a scoff laugh escaped her, "you tall people always think you're so funny. you better put me in your pocket just to be safe." when their arm hadn't dropped, charlotte couldn't help but lean into their side, feeling the warmth of them against her. as they made their way through the crowd, charlotte looked up at them, smiling softly, "i'm glad you came tonight, that we can enjoy this together."

they really were curious about this whole hook up hill thing. it seemed like the sort of small town lore that was too cliche to be true, but considering they'd grown up in a city they supposed they had no idea what that kind of thing was like. the way that charlotte described that particular spot, it sounded beautiful enough to actually be fitting of such a name, rather than just some spot no one went where teenagers could get it on in peace. "i'd been imagining some dirty, litter-filled patch of dirt so i have to completely rethink that one." they laughed, though they still assumed she'd had some experience there. maybe with some boy, or... well, gay activity in a small town wasn't completely out of the question, right? still, they were hardly going to pry. they shrugged at the question of what they did, hating how boring it sounded. "it's a living." and one they were content with, for now. it couldn't get them into any trouble, not like their previous exploits had. at least charlotte had her own interesting thing going on, though at the mention of television they couldn't help but wonder even more what exactly she did. was she a producer? was there a chance she was the one smiling on the television?

taking a rather long sip of their coffee as the other spoke, they listened thoughtfully. they were impressed by all of it, working in nyc, living there and getting to travel. sounded like a dream, really. they kept their hand curled around their mug, nodding as she finished up explaining. "i can certainly respect that. where'd you study, was that in new york as well?" they could certainly imagine it, they'd considered going there once, though they'd landed somewhere a little closer to home. maybe that was a bad thing, though, since it meant that when they left it all behind, that included their family. the question she asked made them snort. "you may have clocked me on that one..." they paused. "are you on tv? is that what we're getting at? is there a celebrity in my house?" they questioned, suddenly highly amused by this whole thing. she was certainly beautiful enough to be, but elias hadn't quite thought of that at first.

"you don't get to go out and patrol?" knowing what she knew now, charlotte wished she hadn't even brought up the mention of hook up hill at all, something that elias now found curious. of course she'd had boys ask to take her there but it was something she quickly shot down, having no interest in them whatsoever. "it's a lookout over the town, a little off the beaten track near the gated estate. the locals aren't too fond of having horny teenagers gathering so close. they think it's a bad look for the area," she went on to explain, "it's a beautiful spot, i can understand why it's popular. on a clear night, the stars sparkle in the sky, full moons shine across the fields, uhm, so i've heard." it was an experience she wished she'd had, however being a closeted lesbian in a small town didn't leave many opportunities for her to have that whirlwind teenaged romance. "so you just monitor screens at your desk, waiting for something to happen?" she knew a little about security, dealing with them from time to time due to her work but not much from their point of view.

amused, charlie couldn't help but offer a warm playful smile before nodding, "television broadcast media, yeah." still, she wanted to choose her words carefully, wanting them to get to know charlie before they saw charlotte spencer. "my apartment is in new york, it's where i like to base myself, that being said, my work is based there too but it takes me all over the place, i'm quite lucky in that aspect. i studied media and communications in college which definitely helped." the brunette couldn't help but chuckle, "yeah, it's pretty, uh, baller? as you would say." charlotte loved her job, her career, yet the access and interest in her private life the public felt entitled to was still something that she couldn't get use to. everyone had an opinion about her and that was something she had to deal with. coming home always offered her a safe haven where everyone had always respected her privacy. for a moment, charlie found herself distracted as the mug was held out to her, elias had been such a breath of fresh air for her, that was before she even acknowledged how attracted she was to them. "thank you, again, for this. you've kind of been my knight in shining armour." she hadn't even noticed she'd been smiling up at them as she tore her eyes away and took a sip from the mug, "i kind of get the impression you don't watch too much television, would that be a fair comment to make?"

elias was relieved to hear that they hadn't made any sort of misstep in paying for a cupcake for charlie too, though they would have given the thing away if she didn't want it. not like it would have been hard, the look and smell alone was mouth watering and the taste was even better. at the arrival of a stranger that seemed to know the woman across from them, elias stood up taller, smiling politely as they turned their attention to the woman who was being introduced as charlie's sister. "nice to meet you." they greeted, holding their hand out to shake hers before they stepped back, giving the pair of them a moment. when charlotte returned, elias grinned, using their finger to swipe a bit of icing off her cupcake. popping their finger into their mouth, they nodded, brows furrowing. "i've never experienced a haunted house that doubles as a rollercoaster, so that's gonna be a yes from me, though..." their arm wrapped around her as they inspected the top of her head. "are you sure you're tall enough to ride?" they teased, chuckling as they turned, letting her lead the way to the haunted house.

watching them place the money on the counter once more, charlotte could not wipe the smile from her face as she looked up at them. where had this handsome and charming person been hiding her whole life? "i can confidently say the chance of me being sick of them is slim to none - this will actually be my first one, so thank you." charlie's blue eyes lingered on their perfect features for a moment before the sound of her sister's throat clearing pulled away her attention back to reality, her cheeks flushing almost immediately. there was an expectant cheeky smirk playing on her sister's lips as the woman's eyes flickered to elias, charlie's cheeks getting darker with each moment. "elias, this is my sister, juliana." there was no escaping the introduction so she was better off getting it out of the way. "i'll be just a minute," she smiled back at the other before handing over the stall to her sister, giving her a quick rundown. picking the cupcake she desired most, she placed her phone in her pocket and made her way to join elias at the front of the booth, "did you want to ride the haunted house with me?"

busying themselves with the milk seemed to be a good call, but they were immediately too distracted to worry about the discomfort of talking about their job choices and whatever had led them to this particular one. "uh, i wouldn't know, though now i'm a little curious about that particular spot." elias laughed. "i'm usually stuck at a desk all night. private security is a little uneventful, but i guess they deemed me necessary enough to hire." they shrugged, brushing off the idea that it took any sort of toll. they'd never been one to get much sleep anyway, so it didn't change too much for them. considering the impressive coffee machine they kept in pristine condition, that probably wouldn't have been surprising. they forgot, embarrassingly, to ask the same of her, brows lifting as they let out a scoff and a soft laugh. "sorry, i'm such an asshole, i should have asked. in media? and in nyc? sounds like it's a pretty baller gig. do i get any specifics?" elias questioned, suddenly very interested in the details of this one particular conversation. they had no reason to keep charlotte around, they were sure she had other things to do, but selfishly they wanted to keep her there a while longer, to find out more about her. finishing up the coffee they'd been making, they finally turned around, holding out the mug towards their guest.

charlotte watched on quietly once they had turned around, residing to the fact that she would actually have to leave at some point. there were no more excuses to stay and really, she had no business to. pulled from her thoughts by their voice, she answered, "completely fine, i'm not one to be fussy." and she wasn't, charlie had learnt pretty quickly throughout her job that it was best to just take whatever was available. elias' compliment took her a little by surprise and soft smile graced charlie's lips as she shook her head, "you'd be the first." reassurance however was something that was an aspect of her job, one that she prayed every day she didn't have to use in a time of crisis or disaster. chuckling, charlie glanced at the machine once more, "it definitely makes mine look awfully inferior." immediately charlie was intrigued by elias' answer, her mind first and foremost wondering about seeing them in their uniform, "let me guess, all the teenagers are still hanging around hook up hill? that's what we use to call it, not that i uh, ever went there." nodding, charlotte understood what it was like working long hours, something she did early in her career, "i can only imagine it takes its toll on your body." it was a no brainer that she would be asked the same but charlie wasn't too sure how much information to give. it was obvious that elias didn't know who she was, so that made it a little easier, "i work in the media, out in new york city." glad that she didn't need to mention that she was in fact one of the biggest names in television media across the country.

it was a very mutual obsession they shared, which was only a slight reassurance when it seemed to be so all-consuming when elias was around her. they were willing to drop their minimal pay cheque if it meant more time around her, though they were relieved to hear they weren't going to be swindled for some cupcakes. they chuckled, tilting their head and then shaking it. "i wouldn't dare take a free one. it's for charity." they dropped some more money on the counter, enough for two more. "one for me and one for you, provided you're not sick of them."

it had been hard returning back home to new york once things had started to progress romantically between the two of them, thoughts of elias completely consumed her mind. charlotte bit her lip, to attempt to suppress her beaming smile at their question, the fact they were considering it filled her with warmth. reaching out to gently touch their arm, she shook her head, "i'm kidding, my sister is coming in five minutes to relieve me, you don't have to pay for my time. i will, however sneak you another for free."

the particular compliment charlotte gave felt like it was plucked out of elias's mind. they liked being called that, handsome. liked people to think it, though they were hardly someone who went out of their way to preen and display themselves any particular way. they liked looking relaxed, a patterned button down tucked into a pair of slacks or jeans tended to be as fancy as they got. still, charlotte seemed to like it. "oh, just." elias teased as they followed her towards the table. "you just made the most delicious sounding desert ever. does that need to go in the fridge? i'm tempted to do dessert before dinner just hearing that." as she placed the brownies on the counter, they leaned against it and smiled. "just wanted to make sure i guaranteed something you'd like. come on, let's eat." they guided her back to the table now, breaking eye contact only because they had to. chivalry wasn't dead as far as they were concerned, so they pulled the chair out for her as they approached the table, their smile warm before they found their own seat. "feel free to pick anything... i still haven't decided myself." elias admitted, beginning to crack open a few containers to inspect things.

as the door opened, charlotte's heart skipped a beat seeing elias so effortlessly leaning against the door, "hey yourself." of course she had noticed their eyes trail over her tucked white top and tan coloured pants. she was very much guilty of doing the same, extremely impressed with what she saw, to no surprise. "thank you." the brunette's face warmed at their compliment, knowing their was now a pink tint to her cheeks. "and you look incredibly handsome." remembering the baked goods in her hand she nodded, "i did, consider me guilty. they're just warm chocolate brownies, fresh cream and strawberries." stepping into the home, charlotte bit her lip to contain the smile of being around elias once again, chuckling that they'd managed to have so many options. it was sweet and it showed her just how much it had meant to them. "there's no such thing, options are good." following them through the house, the smell of the foods filled her senses as they got closer, "everything smells amazing, elias, i can already tell it's going to be a real treat." reaching the kitchen she placed her container down on the counter, still unable to pull her eyes from them.

elias wore a faint smile at that answer, nodding dutifully and glancing away before getting to work pressing buttons and picking out one of their mugs for charlotte to use. of course, that look on her new potential friend's face as she spoke lingered in their mind. "oat milk fine?" they asked idly as they went through the process of making the coffee. they were grateful for the opportunity to look away for a second and just focus on her voice as she spoke, the sweetness she poured into her response to elias' little joke. they chuckled and then finally turned around as the machine began to pour the coffee. "you're good at reassurance. anyone ever told you that?" they folded their arms over their chest as she questioned their profession. this was a question they admittedly dreaded. maybe it was the academic in them that just wouldn't lay down and die that always felt uncomfortable not calling themselves by their former title. no longer a writer. no longer a professor. not even back to being a postgrad student. "uh, no, never actually took up that mantle. all of this i learned for the love of it." they said, busying themselves with getting the milk ready to froth so they didn't have to look at her. "i'm a security guard. mostly work nights, actually, but i still don't really feel like i'm used to the schedule." they explained. "...what about you?"

charlotte couldn't deny that being around elias only added to her flustered state, even more so when they looked at her with that damn smile on their lips but that wasn't something she was near ready to admit. the more charlie replayed the words in her head, it almost began to sound like she was trying to convince them that she was a lot more put together, relieved all the while when they chose to believe her. blue eyes followed elias' movements curiously, a small smile playing on charlotte's lips as she watched them. the complete stranger that had been nothing but kind enough to help her, it said a lot about them as a person, "i definitely don't mind the wait for something good," she spoke, trying to hide the hint of double meaning behind her words, her soft eyes locking with theirs for a moment causing her heart rate to spike. with her life so public, charlotte had always been extremely cautious when it came to people she dated, even if that meant waiting it out for the right person. her life was complex and it took a special person to be willing to take that on. an amused smile crossed charlotte's face at their words, it wouldn't surprise her if they did had women lining up at their doorstep, they were breathtaking, hell she'd join the line herself. charlie's facial features softened, a warm smile still playing on her lips, "shocked, a little. disappointed, absolutely not." not wanting to let her words linger too long she cleared her throat, "so, what is it that you do? for work, i mean. i know that coffee machine looks expensive but i don't get the impression you're a barista."
