One Of Us Is Next

Okay but like can someone read this book so we can appreciate it together??? Like I really like it?? And it includes The Bayview Four a lot and also other familiar characters and I am obsessed and we finally get some freaking Endgame Bronwyn and Nate and I genuinely can't decide wheter I ship the or Maeve and Luis more. We love. We stan. Go read it.

Solving the case

After Nate is taken to jail, Bronwyn is wracking her brain to find a way to prove his innocence. She is afraid he will get judged unfairly because of his past in juvie. After calming down a little bit, she goes to Nate's mother and together get Eli Kleinfelter, the lawyer from Until Proven, and get him to be the head lawyer in Nate's case. But with one condition, Bronwyn and the other accused could not intervene with their findings. But Bronwyn, being the smart girl that she is,finds a way to keep investigating with the rest of the guys and give it to Eli through an “anonymous” source.

However, they get onto something but Nate’s lawyer cannot intervene.They create a whole plan so Addy, who has been forming a sort of frienship with Janae (Simon’s only friend), can go to her house, asking her why she has not been showing up at school. After going through hell that afternoon and ending up in the hospital, She gets the truth un tape and Nate is released.

Apparently, Simon was depressed. He was planning on commiting suicide but wanted to go out with a shocker. He had been spending time with creeps online and that is how he got his idea. He reunited all the people who he felt had wronged him in detention that day, and his master plan began.

He had forgotten his water bottle on purpose so he would be forced to drink from a cup, and made Jake hid all the EpiPens from the infirmery so Coopèr would not find any when he’d go to grab one. And a few days later, an About That entry is posted showing everyone in detention had a reason to want him dead. If this had gone as planned, all of their lives would have been ruined, Simon would had gone out as a victim and gotten his revenge.

Things go back to normal once everything is fixed. But, before-Simon’s-death normal, in Nate’s case. He stops hanging out with Bronwyn and the rest, says their friendship was just because of Simon, but now that it was over, they did not need to keep pretending. Both go on with their lives alone, or so they try to. After senior prom Nate goes back to Bronwyn and asks her to be his girlfriend, officially this time, without having to sneak around.

Since it’s around graduation time (and I’m graduation today 😂) do you have any headcannons about the bayview four and co. graduating?

oh congratulations!! mine is in two weeks and i'm very Not Excited

bronwyn is very obsessed with graduation

"come on guys be excited this is the culmination of four years of hard work!"

she's met with crickets because everyone wants to be done with bayview high

you'd think everyone would be excited about leaving but they're indifferent

she gets a little bit of excitement from luis only because he feels bad for her and he's still part of a group of friends that's pretty excited

bronwyn has valedictorian taken away from her and simon was salutatorian so they don't have a valedictorian/salutatorian speech for the first time in the history of the high school

addy spends the entire time crying

she, bronwyn, and luis sit together because of their last names and luis and bronwyn keep making faces at each other over her head

evan gives the class president speech instead of bronwyn and she's more upset about that than the valedictorian speech

nate considers not showing up but he's worried that bronwyn and addy might murder him

kris, maeve, lucas, ash, eli, and nonny sit together during the ceremony

mr. and mrs. rojas are in full on "supporting bronwyn" mode so they don't even notice that maeve's missing

they have a party afterwards in the rojas' backyard and mr. santos cooks all the food

at some point bronwyn's like "it's just you at bayview high maevey!" and maeve refuses to speak to her for the rest of the night

addy and bronwyn wear matching dresses under their robes

addy dyes her hair to complement her robe

they take so many pictures with addy's polaroid

nate's so glad to be done with bayview high that he actually partakes in all the party stuff addy plans

kris and cooper spend the entire time wrapped up in each other's arms on some lawn chairs

maeve and luis sit on the wall and watch everyone

addy baked a giant caramel cake that they devour in less than a hour

maeve, phoebe, and knox's graduation is super different

phoebe doesn't even go

and knox celebrates with his family because his sisters are scary and he didn't want to explain that he'd being a group thing

since it's just maeve she begs her family to not do anything big or dramatic

she's valedictorian -- it's actually a shock to her because she just turned in her work and moved on she never aimed to be valedictorian

her speech is about thirty seconds long

she's kind of angry because she knows everyone is judging her because she's not the rojas sister people expect to see giving the valedictorian speech

there's no party in the yard like there was for bronwyn

maeve accepts a quick hug from both parents and says hi to everyone to came and then instantly goes home and curls up in her bed saying she wants to be left alone

and by left alone she means she wants to lay in silence with luis

he bakes her alfajores and they make a tent with her comforter and watch buffy reruns

Can you rank the oou couples from favorite to least favorite?

Ohhhh boy we are in for a controversial ride

1: Cooper and Kris

coop and kris are PERFECTION they’re so calm and drama free and they care so deeply about everyone and they’re so cute and I’ve reread both books in the past week and I love them more than ever.

2: Knox and Phoebe

they’re like the accelerated version of friends to lovers and it’s so easy to tell they care deeply for each other and I can’t wait to see what karen has in store for them

3: Ashton and Eli

They’re so cute!! They had such a unique meet cute and they’re so healthy and like… domestic it’s a nice foil to every other couple

4: Addy and Keely

These two are not even remotely canon and I love them. Best friends to enemies to tentative friends to even better friends than before to lovers??? PERFECTION they’d be so soft

5: Maeve and Luis

they’re… okay? Maeve is my ultimate favorite character ever we all know this but she and Luis were very underwhelming and they jumped around a lot and as @glitterandgoldrush said Maeve really was a vehicle for Bronwyn and Nate in oouin and she wasn’t really a character despite it being HER book. Maeve and Luis had the potential to be THE COUPLE of the series and they just… aren’t

6: Nate and Bronwyn

i know I’m going to get crap for this but at this point I can not stand them. I loved them in oouil so much I like physically screamed when they weren’t together and now their will they won’t they is driving me insane. I want nothing more than for the two of them to be in a stable relationship that takes the back burner in oouib bc sorry to like the majority of the fandom but I’m so done with them. Also they were the main developed couple in oouin when it should have been maeve’s book and maeve’s relationship

ooo that's such a good question, and a lot of these aren't based in canon at all, they're just the vibes I get

Bronwyn and Nate

- Enemies to lovers

- Friends to lovers

- Bad boy, good girl or whatever the heck the proper name is

Cooper and Kris

- Friends to lovers of course

- I can also see fake dating, like Cooper wants to make his parents angry at some family gathering and Kris offers to pretend to be his boyfriend and Coop is a little hesitant but oh no oh crap he kind of actually likes Kris. Someone write a fic about this please

Addy and Keely

- The ever classic friends to lovers (this applies to all of them lol)

- The second chance trope. Like they both kind of fell in love with each other and something happened and they didn't rekindle anything until later (bonus points if it's before Jake and Addy date)

Maeve and Luis

- Friends to lovers

- Jock and the nerd I guess but idk if Maeve can be characterized as a nerd or if that's more Bronwyn. (oh god imagine Bronwyn and Luis -- that would be terrifying)

- Fake dating, probably to get someone to stop flirting with Luis

- Enemies to lovers probably because I can see Maeve disliking the early to middle oouil version of Luis

Phoebe and Knox

- Friends to lovers

- Academic rivals but whatever the theatre version of it is

- Meet cute like, they run into each other when Knox's dog crashes into her or something. Just really really adorable for our adorable couple

Ash and Eli

- Friends to lovers

- I can see them as academic rivals at school but like for something really niche

- If Maeve and Luis are like Bronwyn and Nate, and Keely and Addy are like Cooper and Kris, then Ash and Eli are like the grown up version of Knox and Phoebe and it makes me so happy

How many narrators do you think oouib will have? And who do you think they are?

I think four, like the original book, maybe five if Karen wants to push it, but that would probably be confusing and she has never done more than four.

as for who they are, Nate and Knox are the most likely. Karen herself said that Nate and Knox are the easiest to write for. So in my mind, those two are basically confirmed.

As for the next two, I’m guessing once of them is Phoebe. There is too much going on with Emma and Owen for Phoebe to not be a narrator. And for the last one, I’m thinking Luis. Karen said characters from both books will be narrators, not narrators from both books will be narrators. And I doubt there will be a Rojas sister because they have both had their turn and Luis has not.

Logically, those four make sense. Nate is Bronwyn’s boyfriend and good friends with Addy, which means we will get updates on both of them. Luis is Maeve’s boyfriend, and is best friends with Cooper and Kris, and has the advantage of being popular in Bayview. That knocks out four requirements. Phoebe is a Lawton, so we will get the inside scoop on our new favorite dysfunctional family, and she is close with Addy and Ashton. Knox is close with Eli, will have great comments on his relationship with Phoebe, and gives the most unbiased and truthful narration, something we need for a good mystery.

Okaayyy something different (and I hope nobody asked this before): headcanons for Ash and Eli as parents? 👀

yes! i’ve never gotten a request for ash and eli so i’m excited

They’d be really hands-on parents

Like, they’d get on the floor and paint with their kids, no matter how busy they are

They probably have two or maybe three kids

They’re named after Maeve and maybe Knox too this is a hill I will die on

Ash is a graphic designer so their kids are probably really good artists

The have a lot of group art projects

They were probably originally used by Ashton as ways to get Eli to destress

But their kids loved them so they kept on having art projects

They cook a lot

A lot of the stuff they do is family centered

We don’t know much about Eli’s family but Ashton didn’t have the best parents so they really focused on being present in their kids lives

They’re really active in school stuff

I can see Ash as like, a soccer mom

But like, a really cool soccer mom

Eli loves to take his kids to work

But sometimes they can disappear in the stacks of files

The kids love their parents so much

Like, so much

They always tell their cousins/friends that they have the coolest parents

Eli is definitely the parent that teaches his kids stuff about laws and their rights

It’s his inner lawyer speaking

They go for a lot of hikes and stuff

The only time they really ever spend an entire day at home is it’s raining

Ash and Eli encourage their kids to not grow up too fast

They’ve seen some awful stuff in their lives and they just want to protect their kids

They never push their kids to do things like be in relationships or follow specific life paths

Ash doesn’t want to turn into her mother

They’d just be such wonderful parents and they deserve so much happiness and also they’re very underrated
