Inside Elgin Cathedral - Is it worth the money?

We visited the beautiful historic ruins of Elgin Cathedral, built in 1224, to see if it was worth a look around! We'd never been before so it was all a new experience. I loved the stone carvings - incredible! I didn't enjoy the spiral staircases however - not anyone's fault, but they were very hard to walk up and down! Hope you enjoy this look around! 😀

Elgin Cathedral, known as the „Lantern of the North“, is one of Scotland’s most beautiful medieval cathedrals.

Elgin Cathedral was founded in 1224 by bishop Andrew de Moravia and became the home of the bishops of Moray. The gothic cathedral was damaged by fire in years 1270, 1390 and 1402.

During the Scottish Reformation the cathedral was abandoned in 1560. The removal of the roof in 1567 and a heavy winter storm in 1637 destroyed the cathedral. Today Historic Scotland is taking care of the ruins.

Beautiful, Elgin Cathedral in the town of Elgin in Scotland.  I was not going to go here, but the custodian at Spynie Palace told me about it and well, it really was 10 minutes away from Spynie, so why not?  I am so glad that I did.
