What’s the fuss with Tekashi Terauchi and his magnificent Bunnys? Well, for starters, the band’s historical context is fascinating. A ripe AF example of ‘eleki’, a sort of Japanese rock ‘n’ roll-slash-surf rock genre from the 1960s, This Is Terauchi Bushi reimagines some classic Japanese folk tunes within the eleki style. It’s a tremendously exciting work, its energy and anticipation of a new musical style and medium totally palpable. And if you don’t give a shit about all that historical schtuff? It’s still exhilarating, electrifying and really, really fucking brilliant.
