I would enjoy to see your playlists 👉👈
I've got sooooooo many lmao but ok here are some of my most "these are in a state I'm pleased with" and maybe some of them will land! 👉👈
I've got great big playlists of music that "sounds like" a particular decade to me. hands down my nineties playlist is my favorite, very grungy alt rock with splashes of house and trip hop. the eighties playlist is also good, very new wave. the thing is, I do still need to add more 80s/90s hip-hop and 80s funk than they have currently, but I'm largely happy with them.
I've also been experimenting with making playlists that sound like a certain time of year. so here's muggy folk music for hot summer nights and my not-a-christmas-playlist of wintry midcentury jazz standards.
more general mood music here are some chill tracks that are perfect to me. here's some trashy indie rock and electro pop that's like millenial catnip to me. here's a playlist where I was trying to capture that same sound but it's specifically about queer women partying hard and fucking nasty. here is a disco/glam/dance punk playlist where after I finished it I was like "wow that's gayer than I expected" but I don't know why bc the songs I based the sound on were scissor sisters, mika, and elton john?!? I may be stupid. and here's my official bleaching my hair in my bathroom playlist. it's about women.
more conceptually here's a playlist about being stuck in a time loop and also maybe stuck in the 60s or 70s. and here's my thesis about how water is woman-coded. and here's "what if the fey realm were an abandoned mall with a roller disco." and here's a technogoth vampire night club for an urban shadows campaign I'll never get to run
fandomwise here's a playlist for kendall roy sucks session that I will maybe one day update for the latest season. and here's a folk/americana fanmix for magnus archives the buried. maybe one day I will finish the others. then there's my current Ravenloft Problem. there's the ravenloft megamix and the ravenloft pre-y2k throwback mix, and then there's the strahd von zarovich aggression mix, the seduction mix, and the angst mix. and then there's the angst mix's opposing pov, the tatyana mix.
generally speaking if a playlist is meant to be consumed shuffled or played in order it will say 🔀 or ▶️ in the description. otherwise follow your heart.

Prepare yourself for a long babbling session with me:
Daniel became a doctor ( a physiotherapist? Or maybe Kinesiologist?) after KK3 he’s done with martial arts and went to college, he’s divorced and a single dad.
Tumblr media
Johnny is a popular carpenter in the area, after losing the ‘84 Karate Tournament to Larusso (and almost dying choked by his sensei) he decided to take a break from karate and started some carpentry classes or yk handyman work, he’s divorced and a single parent too.
Tumblr media
NOW WHAT I WANT YOU TO IMAGINE IS:
They met again after thirty something years, how? Probably Johnny fell off his stairs while doing some work or maybe got a killing cramp in his leg idk, the details are not clear. They met at the hospital, Daniel it’s assigned to take care of a patient (Johnny) that had some absurd accident.
They looked right into their eyes, you know that phrase “When you meet the love of your life, time stops”? Well that’s what happened to them, at first glance Johnny doesn’t seem to realize that it’s Daniel the little punk that stole his girlfriend and trophy Larusso (But Daniel does, he knew right away)
Anyhow, Daniel did the normal procedure and run away from that room (not from Johnny, how dare you) and that’s all, Johnny it’s free to go home and never ever see that cute doctor again.
Now that led me to my last point ☝️I’ve been hearing this Spanish song since I was a kid and I heard it a few days ago again and now I can’t stop:)
It’s called “emergency call” and please hear me out ‼️ Johnny it’s head over heels for that doctor, so with the help of one of his friends (let’s say Bobby) started hunting him down (obviously at some point Bobby told him it was Daniel Larusso and Johnny had a mental breakdown) but at the end of the day he was at the hospital with some kind of wounds and Daniel lecturing him about it.
One day Johnny was at the Diaz’s house (yep Miguel, his abuelita and Carmen) installing a water system and the teenager boy was playing this song and Johnny just couldn’t help himself from laughing and ask him about the lyrics, Miguel translated some parts:
“The paramedic have to come, I need you to give me electro shock oh oh of your love”
“A serum of your love is what I need, I want you to give me mouth to mouth and may the medical stretcher be our bed (wink wink)”
“Come here quickly, come here and save me. It’s an emergency call”
Obviously Johnny said to himself “That’s the perfect song ever to serenade” and then you have him singing (with a poor and atrocious accent) in Spanish in front of Daniel’s house 👍🏼 waking up Daniel and his children.
THAT’S ALL FOLKS! Sorry if it’s too long or doesn’t make sense 😭 it’s just a silly thought of mine.

Hot Chocolate with the Fair Lady
Written as part of the winter event for the Yae Publishing House
Masterlist
Genre: Fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There you were in a high-class house in Snezhnaya on the second-floor balcony.
You were standing on the balcony out in the cold air without your coat on; you observed your breath every time you exhaled, fascinated by how quickly it cooled.
While you could just stay inside and watch the snowflakes fall from behind the glass as an ordinary person would, there was something so reinvigorating about the chilly air.
Perhaps it was because it reminded you of Signora and her comforting aura.
The image of her standing in front of you as she relayed orders to her subordinates in that authoritative voice of hers was enough to give you thrills; you sighed when you imagined that impassive mask she put on-it was terrifying to watch her work, but it was exciting nonetheless.
Crossing your arms, you searched your memories for other instances of when she was working. There were several times she’d honor her recruits with a sparring session, and it wasn’t until you arrived that she had stopped using lethal force; you’d even offer to help heal their wounds, assuming they sustained anything worse than bruises. As a Fatui Harbinger, she held so much power in her hands it was a wonder she was still the Signora you know so well.
You were so caught up in your reminiscing that you barely registered the bedroom door opening or the clicking of heels getting closer. A gloved hand was placed on your shoulder, bursting your figurative bubble; you turned, looked up into familiarly harsh, light gray eyes, and grinned innocently.
“Hello, my love,” you place your hand where your heart is and look at her with what you thought was a delight. “I was just thinking about you. I missed you so much.”
You saw her eyes soften just a little and Signora let out a small sigh; she gently caressed your cheek. “I missed you too, my heart,” Her eyes sharpened somewhat. “But what do you think you’re doing all alone out here in the cold? Need I remind you that the temperature is low enough for humans to freeze to death without proper clothing?”
At that, you cock your head to the side. “I knew that, but to be honest, this is nothing. After all,” You rest your chin on top of her chest, beaming at her. “Whenever we hug like this, it feels exactly how it is right now, delightfully cold.  I’ve come to enjoy it; is that odd? Did…alienate me, again?”
“Hm…” Signora stroked your hair softly. “No, I suppose I understand what you meant.”
“Hehe~”
“However,” she cupped your face with her hand. “If you get sick from standing out here for too long, I can promise you that you shall be punished dearly. Do I make myself clear?”
You nodded fervently.
She smirked before bringing her lips to yours and the two of you shared a kiss. It lasted for five seconds when she broke it and led you by the wrist inside.
“Good, now, why don’t you make us something nice to drink,” She said.
You were in the kitchen now, wearing a blanket like a cloak as you patiently heated some milk in a pot over the stove; it was mostly quiet, save for the sound of running water coming from the bathroom over on the other side of the room.
You were sitting in front of the stove, reading a book-a light novel about some everyman waking up as the Electro Archon-made for adequate stimulation. Suddenly, the sound of bubbling water snapped you out of the fantasy world you were engrossed in.
You lifted the pot carefully over to a pair of empty cups and proceeded to fill each of them with hot milk. Then, you opened the nearby cabinet and took out a jar of brown powder; you scooped it up with a spoon and poured two and a half into each glass.
You set one glass on the small table and went to sit down in front of the fireplace. Then you took a sip of your drink, pleased as the taste of chocolate settled on your tongue.
There was no sound of running water anymore, just the crackling of fire on wood; the heat from the fireplace spread throughout the room rather quickly, thus you no longer felt any cold.
Footsteps muffled by carpet sound off somewhere to your right when you notice the glass you left on the table gets picked up; you turn your head and lay your eyes on Signora wearing a dark violet silk nightgown. She looked majestic in it, probably more than her regular outfit.
She took a sip and then let out a satisfying hum. She then went and unapologetically sat on your lap; you nuzzled into the crook of her neck, thankful that your average height allowed you to pull such a move.
“I love you,” you muttered. You breathed in her scent and exhaled. “I love you so much.”
“And I love you more than my hatred for the gods, except for Her Majesty the Tsaritsa, of course,” she replied in a low voice.
You two watched the flames dance around and listened to it crackling, sipping your hot chocolate.
Eventually, the two of you finished your drinks; the both of you then poured your own water from a nearby pitcher and drank it to wash the sugar down. After that, the two of you got ready to sleep by lying down in bed.
Already sleepy from the atmosphere and the warm drink you had, your eyelids automatically shut themselves as soon as your head hit the pillow. Your body moved on its own and your arms wrapped around Signora’s waist; she leaned into your embrace so quickly.
And there the two of you stayed, sleeping soundly underneath a ceiling underneath the starry sky of Teyvat.

Ursula 1000 - Movin' To The Sound (Insect Queen Music)
8DPromo · Ursula 1000 - Movin' To The Sound (Insect Queen Music)
Ursula 1000 is the alter ego of Alex Gimeno, a producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist based in Brooklyn, New York. He has released eight albums and mix sessions that take listeners on a retro-futuristic journey of exotic grooves and electronic disco funk. He has performed in over 30 countries, collaborated with notable artists such as Fred Schneider of The B52s, Lady Bunny, and Puddles Pity Party, and has had his music featured in various TV shows, ads, and even the Olympics. Now Ursula 1000 pulls out his dusty smiley face shirt from the closet and goes full-on 303 acid house squelch and jacking 808 grooves for this new single. "Movin' 2 The Sound" showcases Ursula 1000's signature exotic dreaminess, with elements of acid house, throbbing sequencers, and pumping hip-house action. The Berlin-based duo Acid Jerks provided the first remix, taking the acid house business to peak-time bliss. Meanwhile, Fort Knox Five, a leading force in the international funk and breaks scene, focused on electro vibes and b-boy action. Finally, Red Laser Records duo Il Bosco & Metrodome, also known as DJ Absolutely Shit, cranked up the bass, bleeps, and breaks to 11, bringing rave-ready, time-stretching, day-glo dancefloor destruction. This whole single's a trip!
Tyler Stadius (Deepen) – “Yeah, love this! Never get tired of good acid.” Frank Peisker (Bureau45 Agency) – “Killer! The dancefloor will be on fire with this retro electro smasher with a modern twist.” Psycho-Jones (Kater Blau) – “This is Ursula 2023. Love it very much.” Shan Frenzie (2SER FM) – “Love the funk edge on the acid grooves.” BMD (XLNT) – “As expected, Fort Knox 5 have nailed it. Great remix.” Steve ‘Griffo’ Griffiths (Subspace Radio Show) – “As a big fan of Acid Jerks, I was stoked to receive this. Muscular acid house vibes that transport me back to 86.”

Of Blood and Sparks - Interlude II
Tumblr media
Karina Alexandre of Fontaine lost her position, her family, and her Archon's favor. A dead Electro Vision is her mark of guilt. A reminder to never fail again. Faith shattered, and suspicious of the Fatui, she eventually makes her way to Liyue, where she encounters a certain funeral parlor consultant. Little does she know it's only the beginning. Original character centric; eventual Zhongli/OC. Posted originally at @chevalier-of-fontaine. ArchiveOfOurOwn || FF.net || Rhiannon Details
Sneaking back in was always more trouble than sneaking out.
In the few weeks since she arrived back in Fontaine, Rhiannon followed a strict schedule of stage rehearsal and combat training.  Even though Signora was rarely seen fighting, she always had her catalyst nearby, the weapon spinning and lying in wait for its master’s command.  As her Understudy, Rhiannon was expected to be both elegant and deadly, and neither would happen without practice.
She waited to use her Delusion as Dottore advised (or rather, commanded), but even its use was limited.
A silent breath escaped her lips.  The Skirmisher outside of her wing of the opera house was new.  Had to be.  Too vigilant and tense.  Too eager to please.  Signora’s and Columbina’s groups tended to respectfully leave her be if they caught her in places she shouldn’t be; this one knew the consequences of their actions if they realized they failed to keep an eye on her.
Which some might consider to not be her problem; she was of higher rank than them and that she was able to slip through the cracks was not on her but their lack of attention.
But the ire of her colleagues did not discriminate and better she bear it than others.
Nothing would ever compare to the pain she experienced floating between life and death, between Ascension and nothingness.  Tartaglia’s triage attempt, the boat ride to the Zapolyarny Palace, Dottore’s treatments, the terrifying performance that decided her fate...anything that came after was like pricking a finger on a thorn; annoying but hardly worth crying over.
Finally the Skirmisher took it upon himself to continue on his patrol and Rhiannon slipped back into her quarters, cloak almost catching as she shut the door behind her.
“There you are, Ancella.”
Rhiannon jumped at the voice, relaxing only a fraction when her eyes fell upon Columbina, the Crying Dove.  Her long black spilled over the back of the chair, her eyes covered in a lattice of lace.  While they got along well enough, given their mutual passion for singing, Rhiannon never quite felt at ease with the Third Harbinger.
Which was saying something, given the amount of time she spent with the Second.
“You’re late.  If the Knave knew what you were doing, she would steal you away to manage the recruitment for House of the Hearth with the way you have the children of the Lower Circles enamored with you.”
“I would have gotten here sooner if not for the...” Rhiannon said, waving her hand in the general direction of the door.
Columbina hummed thoughtfully, and then brought her attention back to the table at which she sat.  A steaming pot of tea awaited them both, along with a tiny selection of madeleines, no doubt plucked from the fresh batch she left in the tiny space that passed for a kitchen.
“A new transfer, I’m afraid.  One of the few who were there for the Black Fire incident and managed to lose the Dark Night Hero.  He was going to be handed over to Dottore but I lost a few men in Natlan.  Her Royal Majesty saw fit to reassign the grunt instead.”
Rhiannon left out a soft breath through her nose as her idle hand found her collar bone.  She could still feel it, where the bone never properly healed after a particularly nasty training session.
“I’m sure the Doctor was very pleased about that.”
“No more pleased than he was about the Sumeru plans being modified.  You know that as much as he enjoys a show, he hates being away from the lab.  He intends to check in on everything here, at some point.  No one else understands the mechanics of the system, et cetera.  Tartaglia’s assigned to Liyue, although I have no doubt there will be reports of him stopping along the way.”
Columbina cast a knowing look over the table, her smile vicious as her pink eyes settled on the Understudy, but feigned innocence when Rhiannon glared.
“Don’t tell me you intend to make a harem of your superiors, Ancella .  Of all the attention you could and do attract…”
Columbina enjoyed stirring up trouble where she could, finding the perfect strings to pluck.  Rhiannon wasn’t about to waste her energy on putting her sentiment into words and defending herself.  She wouldn’t be alive, let alone sitting in a wing of an opera house as the prima donna, without either Tartaglia or Dottore.  Like all Harbingers, they had their bad sides and evident reasons their colleagues hated them, to say nothing of the dark deeds each had done in the name of their Archon.
When it came to facing the reality that she was, in fact, alone, both of them made her feel very much the opposite.  She was useful, she was needed , wanted .
She didn’t have that luxury after her sister’s Trial and Judgment, after the consequences of Karina’s blind devotion, and their parents’ death..
“Just be careful, Rhiannon.  And stop putting so much lemon zest in these things,” Columbina said after swallowing a bite of madeleine.  “You’d swear they’re another dessert altogether.”
The singer smiled meekly.  Karina was always the better baker between them.
“I figured it was better you knew to anticipate visitors, given your whole…” Columbina gestured to her own throat, long fingers ghosting over her exposed skin, “vocal situation before you left.”
It was a great performance, one of Rhiannon’s finest.  That she suffered a bit residually was normal when she used her powers.  Like all things in life, it came at a price.
“Why, because I couldn’t speak at breakfast?”
“Sweet Ancella, you looked like you were swallowing knives with every bite.  You left and I had to hear your mentor and your physician duke it out about the fact that you couldn’t speak or swallow thanks to the Delusion.”
The two of them continued, Columbina telling her of Natlan and the rest of the roadmap for the other regions, changes that were occurring.  Pantalone would go to Mondstadt for another economic anchor first; the city was the weakest by far, of course, given the Archon held no presence there.  Natlan was in far worse shape than Inazuma and Regrator was never one to pass up an opportunity to take advantage of both sides but Mondstadt needed a reminder of their greatest economic benefactor.
“Supposedly, Her Royal Majesty has been in contact with Morax.  Or rather, Rex Lapis.”
Rhiannon cocked her head.  “Liyue’s Archon?”
“I can only imagine that she doesn’t quite think Tartaglia’s ready for true field work just yet.  Last time he was given something that big, he brought you back, barely alive, and very clearly against orders.”
By the time her companion had to leave, Rhiannon was in stitches of laughter as Columbina recounted a story of a recent run-in with someone who, last either of them saw, was left standing, mouth agape, as Dove and Songbird traded arias as if dueling by vocals alone.  It felt nice, amid all of the threads they managed, to take a break.  To laugh.  To feel just a bit ordinary again.
Although perhaps ordinary was the wrong word; allogenes, and the last remaining Seelie, were anything but.
As Rhiannon closed the door behind the Crying Dove, she couldn’t help but agree that perhaps it was best for the Tsaritsa to have several back-up methods for every single one of her Harbingers.  The Gnoses were critical to her plans and if even one piece fell out of place…
Well, that was what the Tsaritsa had her Harbingers and the Fatui for, wasn’t it?

A-T-3 069 Herbie Hancock - Rockit
Tumblr media
In a chat with Greg Wilson he was saying electro-funk split UK jazz-funk scene. There were purists who didn't like the new synth records or hip hop (although synths and the rhythm-box had made appearances in jazz-funk fusion for over a decade, and Last Poets, Gil Scott Heron etc) but when a leading light like Herbie Hancock made Rockit they paid attention (a few years later there would be a similar split on the northern soul scene when some djs introduced early house records into their sets, that one didn't get resolved). Other folk who are watching closely are Jan Hammer and Harold Faltermeyer
I loved this record from the get go, I must have been 9-years-old and this was my music. In 1984 Kelloggs' Rice Krispies gave Rockit away as a free 7" single (with Wham on the other side) and that's how I got to own this record
This is another record that there's been a lot written about. Rockit came out of a session at Herbie Hancock's studio with Material, this session came about after the records Material had worked on with Celluloid released in 1982 and are posted here A-T-2 388, A-T-2 164, A-T-2 103
That last link above is to Grandmaster D.St http://www.oldschoolhiphop.com/artists/deejays/grandmixerdst.htm who is prominent on Rockit. Herbie Hancock performs Rockit at the 1984 Grammys where he is awarded Best R&B Instrumental or something like that, the US's racial separation in music is depressing. For many people this is the first time that are seeing someone scratching on TV and it's D.St and he's scratching "Fresh" from the first of the links in the above paragraph. This is supposedly the first time the "Fresh" scratch is heard by a large audience and the rest its history. Contrary to some histories Rockit isn't the first hit record to feature scratching, that'd be The World Famous Supreme Team on Malcom McLaren's (Trevor Horn and Anne Dudley's) Buffalo Gals the year before (A-T-2 102) which was a worldwide hit, going top 10 in many countries. Anyway, check out Herbie and D.St (and Jim Whiting) in their Grammys performance here, do you think the dancers look like Leatherface with those make on?
youtube
Who is Jim Whiting?
Jim Whiting is a British artist who makes animatronic objects. The ones you see in the Grammys performance are the work of Jim Whiting
Whiting's animatronic creations are also prominently featured in the video for Rockit which was made by Godley & Creme (former members of the rock band 10cc who did a ton of videos around this time and also the hit singles Cry and Under Your Thumb which I used to sing as "under you bum"). What makes me smile is the video begins with a very normal English street and set is made of second hand furniture, a far cry from California in the USA and the glamorous life. Godley & Creme have said a requirement of the job was to "keep Herbie Hancock's appearances in it to a minimum because MTV didn't like to show black artists" they did this by putting the focus on Whiting's creations
The video wins 5 MTV awards at the first MTV Awards show and is notable for getting the music of a third black artist on MTV rotation, after MJ and Prince
"In America, most people heard this song on MTV, since it wasn't a big radio hit. Herbie Hancock wasn't on the radar of program directors outside of jazz formats, and the song was too unusual for most Top 40 stations"
youtube
The Tube from The Hacienda, perhaps in preparation for the Grammys performance

Part 2 - Samuel
Samuel was the perfect cross between Martha and Darrien. A grandiose narcissist who - at the height of our acquaintanceship - had delusions of occupying some high power position on Bay Street. When asked what he does for a living he would reply “I'm Bay Street,” with no job title or description attached. In fact, Sam was a failed musician who made his meager living by selling cocaine. He often proclaimed that, “one does not have to sell drugs, drugs sell themselves.” But he was so bad at handling the smallest amount of responsibility, like responding to messages or making deliveries within a reasonable time frame, that he often was unable to pay the rent on his low-income housing apartment. Most days Sam would dawn his grey or blue power suit, neck tie and all, grab his ratty old brief-case and drive down to Bay Street to sit in a Cafe for hours in order to sell cocaine to washed up Bay Street finance rejects, who sat around all day moaning about how woke culture has foiled their hard earned positions in the social and financial hierarchies.
Tumblr media
Sam was in his 50s, very tall but badly out of shape, painfully pale and wrinkled beyond his years with a gaping bald spot surrounded by a mess of silver curls. He vaguely resembled Richard Hell though he insisted he actually looked like James Deen and constantly bragged about how well preserved he was for his age. “The trick is to use toner on your face every day” - though moisturizer has never occurred to him. Sam’s true nature did not become apparent to me for years after we first met. He initially came off as so meek, sad and pathetic, so eager to please and to be liked, it took years to uncover the sadistic predator that lurked beneath.
I first met Sam when I was working at a gentleman’s spa on the weekends while paying my way through graduate school. Our paths kept crossing through odd strokes of coincidence and serendipity - things we read into far too much years later. When Sam first walked into the spa, I recall thinking that he looked interesting, certainly not an average client. He was scruffy, like an old rocker still living out his glory days of decades past. I was amused that he thought anyone can pull off a long leather trench coat with wide shoulder pads. I smiled intrigued, which I suppose resulted in him picking me for a session. He didn't want a massage, opting instead to massage me. He kept insisting that I found him very attractive. He attempted to pleasure me with his fingers. He seemed really high and could not keep an erection. When time was nearly up I faked an orgasm to give the session some finality and he suggested we exchange contacts, which at that point I've never done with a client. He finally brought up the fact that he's a drug dealer. While I wasn't interested in anything he was dealing, I did ask, “can you get acid by any chance?”
“I don't usually carry it, but give me your number and I'll call you if I get some in.”
I declined.
A few weeks later he came in and saw me again. The session was the same, he massaged me, his dick never stayed hard, I faked an orgasm.
“I know you find me very attractive.” He persisted. “If you give me your number, I'll get you some weed for free”. When clients became persistent in any way they stood out as a red flag, but Sam seemed slow and shy. He would bat his eyes mischievously while asking - like he knew he was doing something wrong but just couldn't help himself.
“Atleast check out my band, Crack Baby and the Love Triangle. It's psychedelic electro jazz, we just released a new album on BandCamp - my email is on the website if you ever wanna message me”.
“We’ll see”.
“Look, I told you exactly who I am. You know my identity. My sister is Sheela Bloomberg, you can look her up, she's a well known documentarian. I'm the vulnerable party here.”
I laughed.
A year or so went by. I quit working at the spa when I landed a gallery attendant job, dyed my hair platinum blonde and was sporting something of a Nancy Spurgeon look but in an art world chic kinda way.
One night in spring we were opening our biggest show of the year, the house was packed and many of my friends were there to show support. I spotted Samual in the crowd checking out a collage that, coincidentally, was comprised of the back page ads from Now Magazine - I even recognized about three of my former co-workers in it. I went up to him to see if he ever did end up getting any acid, but it was clear he didn't even remotely recognize me. I took adnavege of the opportunity to try and fuck with his head a little. He told me he wasn't in the market for art and was only there to support a friend. “Yeah I figured as much. You don't look like a buyer. More like…maybe a musician? Like someone who probably paddles drugs to support a dwindling music career?”
Sam didn't bat an eye or shift his tone. “No, I'm actually just taking a break from the music thing.” I couldn't tell if he's high or just kind of slow. He seemed so clueless and socially awkward, it was difficult to tell. The night was busy and I had many people to talk to, but come closing time Sam was still there, hanging on my friend Zilka who almost never went home at the end of a night without a man. The two ended up leaving together.
The next day I was deathly curious about Zilka’s night. At that time she didn't know about my stint at the spa the previous year, so I never told her I knew her latest piece of entertainment.
“He was so weird!” She recounted. “We hooked up and it was okay or whatever but the next day he insisted on driving me home and he wouldn't leave the whole time I was getting ready for work.” Zilka continued sounding perplexed, “he just sat on my couch and said ‘uh-huh’ to anything I said. I felt bad because I think he was kinda autistic, but I just couldn't get him to leave until I went to work.”
“Are you going to see him again?”
“He seemed really interested but nah, I don't think I wanna call him back”.
That was the last I've seen or heard from Samuel until about three years later when I went back to school for a philosophy program, and subsequently returned to the spa for some extra cash.

When a client came in without an appointment, he would be seated in the front of the house and each available girl would go out to greet him so he could make his choice. When it came my turn, I went out to see Samuel, significantly older and chubbier. I must have given off a look of amusement or surprise because he immediately picked me. Inside the room, as I began to massage him, it became clear he had no idea who I was. I asked questions about music or the drug trade, to which he responded straightforwardly and unintrigued, as though I was asking questions far more general, like “do you suppose it'll rain today?” or “do you think the Leafs will make the playoffs?” I decided to up the anti a little.
“So how do you find living in the Eglinton Village neighbourhood? Is it as stuffy as it looks?” That's when he paused, turned his head and asked, “do we know each other or something?”
“Yes, you've stayed with me several times before, like years ago. My name used to be Ivy.”
“And I gave you my address?”
“No, but you took my friend Zilka home one night and she texted me her location for safety”.
“Uh-huh”.
The wheels in his head seemed to be spinning rapidly for a few seconds then he replied, “No I don't live in that house anymore, I moved to little Portugal.”
“Weird, that's where I live. What street you on?”
To my utter surprise he named my street. I laughed, “how come I've never seen you there before?”
“I dunno, I just moved there recently.’
He spent the rest of the session massaging me and I ended it by giving him a fairly convincing impersonation of an orgasm. A couple of weeks later he came back to the spa to see me. He told me he mostly dealt in cocaine since the illicit weed trade died up after legalization. By a stroke of coincidence my latest academic endeavour has led me to a renewed appreciation of stimulants, and so I took down his phone number.
During a particularly stressful exam period in which I decided to not sleep at all, I messaged Sam to learn he lived in the building right next door to mine. He came by to deliver the goods and when I opened the door the first thing that jumped out at me was that the entire front of his grey hair was dyed purple!! Picture a middle aged, haggard man with a Bill Nye haircut, sporting purple bangs! I tried quickly to hide my amusement and paid him a half-assed compliment, “that's an interesting look.”
“Yes, well I have this millennial girlfriend now, she did this for me”.
I collected my drugs, he enquired if I'd be willing to give him a session in exchange for the drugs, I told him I had too much studying to do and we parted ways.
When finals rolled around I messaged Sam again for another touch of pep. Sam came over without his usual energy or his shyly awkward yet flirtatious spark. He seemed annoyed. “It's my 50th Birthday today and my millennial girlfriend left me.”
“I'm so sorry. But happy birthday no less!”
“Can we have a session? I'll give you extra drugs”.
“I really wish I could, but I really need to study, it's serious crunch time.”
“What if I pay you?”
“Can we take a raincheck? Next week I'm off from class.”
Sam didn't respond, he just got up and left. I thought it was quite rude but also figured, if I was dumped on my birthday and couldn't find anyone to spend it with, I'd be acting like a shitty little bitch too. I went back to my books.
I soon switched to Adderall to support my study habit, and haven't contacted Sam again for some time, although I did run into him on our street a few times. He was back to being friendly, awkward and mischievous, making silly yet obscene facial expressions or gesturing to me provocatively. Then the Pandemic hit.

It was summer when the restrictions began to loosen up a little. One day I got a message from Sam asking if I wanted to come over for a session. I knew it was a bad idea but I admittedly missed doing drugs, and furthermore, I could no longer afford to do them. And even though I have worked in the sex industry on and off for years now, the thought of exchanging sexual favors for drugs was filthy thrilling, and fully turned me on - perhaps also because I deeply missed having an orgasm I didn’t give myself.
Sam’s apartment was dirty and out of sorts with music equipment and drug paraphernalia scattered everywhere. His walls were painted burnt orange and okra and he had these random Persian style rugs covering most of his floor. It was a fairly typical musician bachelor apartment and it didn't particularly gross me out. He told me that he and his millennial girlfriend got back together. “I don’t think it’ll last much longer,” he complained. “She’s extremely jealous and controlling but I know he cheats on me. Also, she refuses to finger my ass”. The fact that he had a girlfriend was of little consequence to me, as I still considered him a client, and myself his client. In fact we've been each other's clients for some time now so cutting out the middle currency seemed prudent. The rules of the spa applied, no sex or blowjobs, but I did let him go down on me. He was fairly skilled, I came maybe 2 or 3 times. When it was his turn, he managed to maintain an erection from getting fingered and eventually, with some wrist-numbing effort, he did cum.
He told me that paying for sexual favors is his kink that no one in his life knows about. I wondered if that was not just a way for him to deflect from the fact that his charm and good looks are not always sufficient for his sex life. But then he added, “I have a special relationship to sex work and a lot of respect for sex workers you know. It's because I'm being possessed by the spirit of a dead hooker. Her name is Melody. She was a friend of mine.”
Given that Sam was artsy and eccentric, I wasn’t sure how literally he believed this at first.
I saw Sam sporadically a small handful of times over that summer. He told me the story about Melody literally every time I saw him, each time adding new details about his communications with her. When the school year began again, I switched mainly to Adderall and Vyvanse and hardly saw him again, probably until the following summer.
Just after receiving my second vaccine, I recall taking some mushrooms in order to endure having my nails done. On my way home I received a message from Sam inviting me over, I missed cocaine, and with my newly acquired, post-vaccine confidence I showed up at his place. We had fun. We drank brandy and did lines while exchanging orgasms for a few hours, after which I went home with a couple of grams of coke. I was very pleased with myself. The life of a druggie-ho was a lot more fun than portrayed on TV.
We maintained our arrangement into the school year, which was further facilitated by his final breakup with his millennial girlfriend. He told me that eventually she became so abusive to him that it would turn physical to a point that his neighbors had to intervene. Eventually the police got involved and now he had a no contact order against her. I felt a tinge of pity for this strange little man, who absolutely seemed like he would tolerate physical violence for attention or affection or a shot at being liked or accepted. For most of the school year I rarely had time to spend with him and often paid him in cash, but I was beginning to view him as a friend. Then sometimes during winter break he invited me over for our usual. I didn't require drugs to study at this time but I could use the entertainment. Sam was entirely nocturnal like me while most of my friends were not. He made surprisingly good martinis, which we drank while watching The Hunger - one of our mutually favourite films. We were having fun gossiping and laughing. He also talked about the long-term trauma he incurred from millennial girlfriend, whose name I finally learned was Meena. Apparently she attempted to stab him once, grazing his shoulder with a kitchen knife. “Erik from across the hall kept rushing in to break up the fights because she'd get so loud. Sometimes he had to pull her off me. I dunno why I took it for so long, it's like I just couldn't leave.” I assured him that it's a pretty common response to abuse and the important thing is that he is now healing. He offered me a bump of 2C-B to try. I immediately hated it, it made me dizzy, slow and disoriented. It was also nearly morning time so I opted to go home. He kept offering me cocaine to take home with his desperate “please like me” eyes, I declined. “You don't have to pay me to hang out anymore. We’re friends. I had a lot of fun”.
“Okay, don't be shy, come by any time. We don't even have to do anything, just watch a movie or something”. We hugged goodbye.
The next day I woke up with one of the worst hangovers of my life. I attributed it to trying the new drug. The dizziness and weakness kept getting stronger and stronger all day until I finally realized that it was, in fact, Covid.
I was laid up and isolating for the next 2 weeks - hauled up in my living room. My live-in boyfriend at the time refused to go near me though he made exceptions when he insisted on coming into the living room to blast television first thing in the morning while I was trying to sleep. The fact that our relationship had all but ended during the lockdowns was clear to everyone but him, but I was still too stressed to completely pull the plug, especially since I was in school and struggling to pay my bills. All the while Sam would stop by with his special soups, leaving them outside my door several times per week. I began to feel a genuine friendship between us. When I recovered, I would sometimes go to his place to get high, drink martinis and have him eat me out over vintage art house cinema. Sam claimed he was a film history major in his youth. I felt comfortable confiding in him about my sexless relationship with a brooding man who was growing increasingly depressed and angry each day.
One day I wanted to buy some cocaine, but I didn't hear back from Sam for about an hour, by which time I was halfway to the nail salon downtown. He apologized for the delay. “No worries, I'll be back home later this evening, I'll just stop by then.”
“I'm free right now, why don't I drive down to the salon, we'll grab a coffee.”
My nail appointment ran much longer than expected, and Sam waited across the street the entire time until I was done. I was becoming convinced he was developing feelings for me, but pretty soon the semester went into full swing, I stocked up on Adderall and haven't seen Sam for about a month.
At the end of February I got a text, “my 26 year old girlfriend just died while I was in BC. Can you come over?” I had no idea Sam had a new girlfriend, though I was in no position to judge. I expressed my condolences, told him I could not free myself up just that minute but I'd be sure to stop by on the weekend.
The Quarentine Dream
The Quarantine Dream was a cocktail I created at the start of the lockdowns, and it became a fast faavourite amongst my friends.
Mix 1.5 oz gin
0.5 oz fresh lime juice
About a tbs blackcurrant syrup
Top off with sparkling water and serve over ice.
