Katee Robert’s second installment of the Dark Olympus series was a perfect follow-up to Neon Gods. Robert’s ability to introduce new characters while including those from past stories is absolutely amazing. Her writing in this series reminds me of Sherilyn Kenyon’s writing in her Dark-Hunter series. They both seamlessly integrate characters new and old into a story without having them detract from the main characters of the story. This is not a skill that I have seen from many writers, and I commend both of them for their skills in that department. 

Electric Idol follows Psyche and Eros as they begin a fake relationship in order to keep Psyche safe from Eros’s mother, Aphrodite. Their story gives the reader further insight into the hierarchical games that go along with being a part of the “upper crust” of society in Olympus. As someone who has always had a deep love of Greek mythology, this really just made me love the series even more. 

Psyche is a curvaceous, smart, and very talented social influencer, while Eros is a cold, determined man who has dubbed himself a “monster”. I loved reading about these two as they are incredibly easy to relate to. These are two flawed beings who are only trying to survive in a cutthroat world that refuses to pity the ones who cannot keep up. 

When reading this book, I could not keep the smile off my face. Now, hours after I finished, I still cannot drop my smile even while writing this review. This book is one that I will want to read time and again. I fully believe that I will discover new tidbits through every reading, and I cannot wait for more books to hit the shelves from Katee Robert.

I've been awful about posting the last week and a half but I have been reading. Including the 2nd book in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert. I enjoyed this one as well. I love that we got to see more of the families of the Thirteen (can't wait for Helen's book). I’ve been holding onto this one, as I only have a physical copy, and waiting until the semester ended, when I actually have some time to sit down and read. I think it’s a pretty great way to reward myself! ★ How is everyone doing? I thought today we could comment with recent reads that we loved, that we’d like to recommend to others! Comment with some of your recent faves!    I’ve been feeling a little mentally and emotionally exhausted this week, but I recently finished reading eARCs of Electric Idol by @katee_robert and Hook, Line, and Sinker by @tessabaileyisanauthor, and I feel like they were exactly what I needed to help my mood. I loved the way both touch upon meaningful subjects beyond the romance, particularly body image in Electric Idol, and imposter syndrome and worthiness in Hook, Line, and Sinker. Of course, both are extra 🌶🌶🌶 too!  🥵   They both come out in 2022, but I definitely recommend adding them to your TBRs now, and reading the first books in their respective series, Neon Gods & It Happened One Summer, if you haven’t already! Neon Gods is a modern Hades & Persephone retelling, and It Happened One Summer is inspired by Schitt’s Creek! These four books have been some of my favorite reads of the year.
