Excerpt from this story from Grist:
When the Racetrac chain of convenience stores was deciding whether to install electric vehicle chargers, project lead Rushi Patel started with a blank Excel sheet and a lot of questions. Did the financials make sense? Where is the best to install them? What features should they have? The answers to questions like these could go a long way toward establishing an economic argument for building out America’s public EV charging infrastructure.
“We found our guests using new types of fuels, like electrons, and we wanted to be with them as part of that journey,” said Patel, the diversified energy manager at Metroplex Energy, a subsidiary of Racetrac. But he was clear that “it’s important to have an offer that does make money.”
Patel slowly started to populate his spreadsheet in 2021, filling cells with EV adoption rates, utility prices, construction costs and a range of other metrics. He also took the company’s executives on a two-hour tour of charging spots in Atlanta, where Racetrac is based. One was tucked behind a shopping plaza, the other was deep within the bowels of a mall garage. It was clear to them that Racetrac could do better.
Two years later, Racetrac installed its first Level 3 fast charger in Oxford, Alabama — complete with the company’s logo and a canopy to shade people from the sun as they pump electrons. It has since opened seven more in three states. So far, he said, “[the business model] is holding up pretty well.”
Those eight chargers are among the 61,000 that blanket the country, a figure that has more than doubled since 2022. The increase comes as mounting evidence shows EV charging stations can be a boon to businesses, and not only by selling electricity.
A recent study in the journal Nature Communications looked at chargers in California and found that, pre-pandemic, businesses saw an average annual boost of $1,500 when at least one of the devices stood nearby. Another paper examined Tesla Supercharger installations nationally and saw they brought a 4 percent increase in visitors to a business. The effect was particularly pronounced if the chargers were within 500 feet, and if it was the first one in the area. This boon is due to the fact that it can take 30 minutes or more to fully charge an EV, giving drivers plenty of time to shop.
“The places that tend to get the biggest bump, is the place that aligns with how long it takes you to charge your car,” said Gordon Burtch, an author of the paper and a professor of information systems at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. “Sit-down restaurants aren’t benefiting as much as fast-food restaurants.”

RV Sales To Be Banned Across Six States As California Climate Rules Take Effect
Diesel motorhome sales are set to be halted in several states at the start of next year due to a new climate rule from California being enacted, according to RVtravel.
Motorhome sales are being prevented in California, Washington, Oregon, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey if the vehicles do not meet certain emission requirements based on regulations from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), according to RVtravel. CARB amended its Advanced Clean Truck regulations on Oct. 24, which require all vehicles over 8,500 pounds to produce zero emissions.
Motorhome owners in the six states will not be allowed to register a recreational vehicle (RV) that is not in compliance with the climate regulation, according to RVtravel.
California has enacted various green energy policies in recent years, including filing a major lawsuit against Chevron and other oil companies seeking climate change damages in September 2023 and enacting a landmark corporate emissions disclosure requirement in October 2023. The state has seen drastically higher gas prices amid its policies and regulations aimed at cracking down on fuel refiners.
The Biden-Harris administration has rolled out various electric vehicle (EV) policies as part of President Joe Biden’s climate agenda, including introducing a strict tailpipe emissions rule in March that would require about 67% of all light-duty vehicles sold after 2032 to be EVs or hybrids. The president has been leading a push to build 500,000 public EV chargers nationwide by 2030, but the initiative has so far been majorly delayed.
Various American automakers have scaled back EV-related plans amid a lack of consumer demand. Toyota’s North American Chief Operating Officer Jack Hollis recently criticized policies promoting EV adoption, citing “impossible” standards.

EVs were supposed to be the future. Not everyone is buying it | DW News
P.S. Despite pledges and targets to move electric vehicles down the road, recent second quarter earnings from big car companies show loses. Ford and Stellantis are both struggling, and a majority of car companies are losing money on each electric vehicle sold -- no matter if it's a battery or plug in. Will big auto makers step away from electric or simply diversify their portfolios(..)
P.S. Of course, not everyone will buy it! First look at the horrible price tag or miserable range performance of "affordable" EVs, then ask how you will charge your EV's battery on a daily basis and on a long trip, how much money you will spend repairing your EV, and how much legacy automakers support their EV buyers and charging networks.
If you study the behaviour of legacy automakers in the electric car market, it becomes obvious that there is a lot of noise and little substance in what legacy automakers do. Electric car buyers, especially mass market buyers, are NOT interested in buying badly overpriced low volume compliance EVs that can't be easily charged anywhere...
The market of rich EV enthusiasts and lovers of "green" ideas in Europe is already quite saturated with expensive electric cars and the salaries of Norwegians or Swedes are far from affordable for everyone...many Europeans cannot afford even the cheapest new ICE vehicle, so it is important to answer the question whether there will be it is possible to drive a lot and repair used and heavily used electric cars...
Non-Tesla EV charging networks are real pain in the ass...Right now, the correct term for non-Tesla EV buyers' concern is not "range anxiety" but a "charger anxiety"...

Incorporating Renewable Energy into Your EV Charging Routine
The shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) has been a significant stride in the collective effort to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, with global sales hitting over 6.6 million in 2021, a 108% increase from the previous year, the focus now turns to how we power these vehicles. Transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources for EV charging is the next critical step in ensuring that the benefits of EVs are fully realized. This article explores the ways in which individuals and communities can incorporate renewable energy into their EV charging routines.
Firstly, the concept of 'green charging'—the process of using renewable energy to charge electric vehicles—is not only environmentally sound but also increasingly economically viable. The cost of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems has dropped by about 90% since 2010, making it an accessible option for many. Homeowners with EVs can install solar panels to capture energy during the day, which can then be used to charge their vehicles in the evening. For those without the option to install solar panels, choosing a green energy provider for their home charging setup that sources electricity from renewables is an effective alternative.
In addition to solar power, wind energy is another potent source for EV charging. Wind energy has experienced a dramatic increase in its adoption, with the global wind power capacity reaching 837 GW in 2021, an increase of 93% from the capacity in 2016. EV owners can tap into this resource by purchasing wind energy credits or by selecting energy plans that prioritize wind-sourced electricity. This ensures that the energy used for charging their EVs comes from clean sources, even if they are not directly connected to a wind farm.
The integration of smart chargers has made it easier for EV owners to charge their vehicles when renewable energy production is at its peak. Smart chargers can be programmed to operate when renewable energy generation is high, which usually coincides with low demand periods such as mid-day for solar or night-time for wind. By doing so, EV owners ensure their vehicles are charged using the cleanest energy possible while also taking advantage of lower energy prices during these off-peak times.
Another key element in aligning EV charging with renewable energy is the development of a robust public charging infrastructure that is powered by renewables. Governments and private companies are investing in the installation of public EV charging stations that are directly connected to renewable energy sources. For instance, in California, which leads the US with over 39% of the country's EV sales, there is a plan to install 250,000 charging stations by 2025, many of which will be powered by renewables.
On a larger scale, energy storage systems play a vital role in matching renewable energy supply with EV charging demand. Energy storage solutions, like lithium-ion batteries or pumped hydro storage, can store excess renewable energy generated during peak production times. This stored energy can then be used to provide a consistent and reliable source of green electricity for EV charging, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions.
There is also a growing trend towards vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems, where EVs do not just consume power but also have the capability to return energy to the grid. This technology allows for a dynamic energy exchange where EVs can be charged during renewable energy peak production and then supply energy back to the grid when it's needed the most. This not only ensures optimal use of renewable energy but also provides stability to the energy grid and potentially offers financial benefits to EV owners.
Finally, to truly capitalize on renewable energy for EV charging, there needs to be increased collaboration between policymakers, renewable energy providers, and the automotive industry. Incentives for residential and commercial solar installations, tax benefits for purchasing green energy, and subsidies for smart chargers are just a few of the ways that can accelerate the adoption of renewable-powered EV charging.

India E-Rickshaw Market Size, Growth and Report 2032
India e-rickshaw market is projected to witness a CAGR of 10.85% during the forecast period FY2024-FY2031, growing from USD 1322.15 million in FY2023 to USD 3014.16 million in FY2031. The e-rickshaw market in India has been a success story for being a solution to the emission issues along with enabled last-mile connectivity.
Expanding manufacturing spaces with an increasing count of e-rickshaw companies are fueling the market growth. The densely populated Indian cities are one of the prominent factors that fuel the market growth. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) stated that the retail sales of e-rickshaws increased by 89% between February 2022 and February 2023. The spiked retail sales are the biggest indicator of the growth of the e-rickshaw market in India.
Rising fuel prices and stringent emission norms are expected to contribute to the market growth. As the market is new and transforms with frequent changes in battery technology and charging infrastructure, the research and development programs around three-wheel electric drive take an important charge of it.
India is a rapidly growing economy that holds high potential for EV growth. With the rising urbanization of metro cities and lacking last-mile connectivity, e-rickshaws have solved the problem, that too at affordable prices. The key market players try to increase the range while upgrading safety.
For instance, in August 2023, Mahindra launched its new e-Alfa Super e-rickshaw with over 95 km range. The range is powered by a 140 Ah lead-acid battery that can be charged with an 18 A charger. The company offers an 18-month warranty on the battery.
Low-cost Transportation with Minimal Carbon Emission to Fuel the Market Growth
India, as an emerging economy, holds a major potential for two and three-wheel electric vehicles. The e-rickshaw with an average cost of USD 1,500 demands lower maintenance and a cheaper charging dynamic. It enables low-cost transportation for end-users and the expanding fleets of e-rickshaws are employing cycle rickshaw drivers. E-rickshaws have emerged as the winner in intermediate para transit (IPT) systems, eliminating the conventional internal combustion engine (ICE).
The environmental benefits involve the mitigation of air and noise pollution that has enabled the mass deployment of e-rickshaws in different parts of the nation. The deployment of these rickshaws comprises a healthy proportion of self-owned drivers and fleet operators. The e-rickshaw manufacturers keep on innovating their products while partnering with advanced battery suppliers. An innovative and advanced electric rickshaw fleet involves the usage of old, recyclable, and recycled batteries.
For instance, in May 2023, Indian-German startup Nunam Technologies Pvt. Ltd., partnered with Audi GmbH to introduce electric rickshaws powered by used batteries from test vehicles in the Audi e-Tron test fleet. The second-life batteries deliver enough power for the e-rickshaws to function.
Last Mile Connectivity and Mass Manufacturing Propel the Market Expansion
One leading factor attributed to the higher sales of e-rickshaws is their capability to cover the last mile for daily commuters. In urban cities with increased migrated population and congested public transport, e-rickshaws come up as a last-mile mobility solution with affordable pricing and no emissions. Growing concerns over vehicular pollution along with stringent emission regulations are expected to accelerate the growth rate of the e-rickshaw market in India. The higher demand is served by expanding manufacturing facilities. Alongside it, the research and development spaces help e-rickshaws in adopting the latest digital technologies. The e-rickshaw manufacturing space expands and utilizes technologies like the Internet of Things, digital sensors, data analytics, 3D printing, and cloud computing. However, Indian brands are focusing on doubling the production of e-rickshaws to serve the increasing demand.
For instance, in August 2023, Udaan E-Vehicles announced that it is going to scale up its production capacity to strengthen its market hold potential in states like Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The company plan includes the expansion of research and development. The scaled-up production involves a shift from 100 vehicles per day to 250 vehicles per day. The company shared its plan to invest ~USD 12 million for widened manufacturing.
Government Subsidies and Regulatory Policies to Shape the Market Dynamics
Government subsidies and incentives play a major role in the expansion of the e-rickshaw market in India. India’s energy transition plans include a major portion of the automotive shift from ICE propulsion to electric propulsion. The government of India has promoted multiple socio-economic benefits of e-rickshaws while supporting the transition. Policies and missions such as the National Electric Mobility Mission, Smart City Mission, and Faster Adaptation of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME 1 and 2) have fuelled the sales of e-rickshaws in the country.
Government support to battery manufacturers and battery recycling businesses is anticipated to fuel growth. However, the rise in e-rickshaw road rule violations has pushed the government to introduce some regulations such as mandatory driving licenses and a maximum speed limit of 25 km/h. The government continues to extend its support to three-wheeler electric vehicles in the form of subsidies.
For instance, in June 2023, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) announced a subsidy of ~USD 300 for commercial e-rickshaw buyers. The PMC took a step under central and state government policy to promote eco-friendly e-rickshaws.
Passenger Segment leads to Higher Consumption, Rapid Urbanization, and Affordable Travel
Based on e-rickshaw type, the passenger carrier segment is expected to lead the Indian e-rickshaw market. The factors attributed to the segmental growth are the adoption of electric technology in loading carriers along with higher consumption of e-rickshaws in passenger fleets. Furthermore, the increased urbanization and costly e-hailing services are pushing the end-user to choose affordable and eco-friendly ways of transportation. The increased investment by manufacturers is expected to expand and upscale the production limit while working on the design, development, and battery mechanics. The government plans to replace cycle rickshaws with electric rickshaws to benefit cycle rickshaw drivers, propelling segmental growth.
For instance, in October 2023, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. introduced a new electric three-wheeler for the passenger segment named Ape E-city FX NE MAX. The vehicle delivers e-3W and claims a running cost of 0.50 paise per km while covering a range of 145 km on a single charge.
Northern India to Hold the Dominant Share
The densely populated states, such as Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, make North India the largest market in terms of e-rickshaw adoption. The factors attributed to the regional growth are a higher population and increased commercial electric three-wheeler adoption. The Vahan dashboard showcases the government’s 2023 data regarding the adoption of e-rickshaws where Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 204,824 passenger e-rickshaws and 12,809 electric goods carriers.
Future Market Scenario (2024 – 2031F)
· The adoption of digital technologies like IoT, AI, and machine learning in e-rickshaw manufacturing is anticipated to transform the upcoming products.
· Higher adoption of e-rickshaws in urban cities with affordable mobility solutions is projected to increase e-rickshaw adoption in the country.
· Increased government subsidies, incentives, and tax cuts are expected to support the e-rickshaw manufacturers in India.
· Expanded manufacturing spaces along with upscaled production capacity are expected to fuel the market growth in the future as well.

EV fast charging, also known as DC fast charging, is a technology that allows you to quickly recharge your electric vehicle in a fraction of the time compared to regular chargers. While standard chargers may take several hours to fully charge your EV, a fast charging station can deliver a significant charge in just 30 minutes to an hour, making it a perfect option for drivers who need to get back on the road quickly. This technology is crucial for long-distance travel or busy schedules, allowing you to quickly top up your battery and continue your journey.
Benefits of EV Fast Charging Near Me
Speed and Convenience The most obvious advantage of EV fast charging near me is the speed. Traditional home charging or slower public charging points can take hours to fully recharge an electric vehicle. Fast chargers, however, can provide up to 80% of the charge in just 30-40 minutes, meaning you can grab a coffee, take a break, and get back on the road with minimal downtime. This is especially helpful for those with busy schedules or when traveling long distances.
Accessibility When you search for EV fast charging near me, you’re essentially looking for charging stations that are conveniently located in areas where you already spend time—whether that’s near your home, office, or favorite retail spots. By choosing fast chargers in areas you frequent, you can minimize the time you spend waiting for your car to charge, making the experience as seamless and stress-free as possible.
Perfect for Long Road Trips For those planning longer trips outside of Melbourne, EV fast charging near me is essential for ensuring a smooth journey. As the infrastructure for EV charging grows, fast chargers are becoming more widespread along major highways, offering peace of mind knowing that you won’t be stuck searching for a charger when your battery gets low. These fast stations are designed to keep you moving without the long delays typically associated with EV charging.
Cost-Effective Although fast charging stations may have a higher fee per kilowatt compared to slower options, the speed at which they charge means you’ll spend less time plugged in and more time on the road. Additionally, fast charging stations often offer competitive pricing structures, especially when integrated with loyalty programs or subscription plans. This can make charging your EV more affordable and more convenient, particularly for those who rely on it as their primary mode of transportation.

Republicans Can Slow but Not Stop Electric Vehicles, Experts Say. (New York Times)
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
To a large extent, the electric vehicle market in the United States runs on Democratic policies. There are federal tax credits for car buyers. Subsidies for battery manufacturing. Cheap loans to build electric car factories. Grants for chargers. Regulations that push automakers to sell more vehicles with no tailpipe emissions.
All of that support — amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars — could go away soon after the inauguration of President-elect Donald J. Trump, despite his close association with Elon Musk, chief executive of the electric car maker Tesla.
Mr. Trump and Republicans in Congress say they plan to eliminate most of the federal aid for electric cars and trucks and reverse emissions rules, raising doubts about the future of such vehicles and the billions of dollars that automakers have invested to design and build them.
Still, many auto experts say market forces and technological progress will ultimately drive a long-term transition to electric vehicles regardless of how far Republicans go in undoing President Biden’s climate agenda.
Prices of batteries, the most expensive part of an electric vehicle, are falling fast. Already, many electric cars cost no more to own than comparable gasoline models when savings on fuel and maintenance are taken into account.
Technology is improving rapidly. Batteries are becoming lighter and smaller while allowing faster charging and longer travel distances. And more than 12,000 high-voltage public chargers were added in the United States in 2024, a 33 percent increase from the year prior, according to Rho Motion, a research firm.
Automakers have a strong financial interest in promoting electric vehicles no matter who is in the White House. They need to earn a return on the investments they have made in production facilities. And failing to keep up with the technology could make them vulnerable to emerging Chinese competitors that are all-in on electric vehicles.
“No matter what policy changes are brought forward by the new administration we will abide by them and will adjust accordingly,” Randy Parker, chief executive of Hyundai Motor America, told reporters during a conference call last week.
“Make no mistake about it,” he added, “we’re committed to electrification.”

In one of the largest studies on EV mileage to date, researchers at GW and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory examined odometer data from 12.9 million used cars and 11.9 million used SUVs between 2016 and 2022. They found that battery electric vehicle (BEV) cars were driven almost 4,500 fewer miles annually than gas cars. The study found a gap for both cars and SUVs: electric cars had travelled 7,165 miles while gas-powered cars had travelled 11,642 miles annually, and electric SUVs travelled 10,587 miles while their gas-powered counterparts travelled 12,945 miles annually(..)
P.S. It is a well-known fact that ONLY RICH city dwellers who do not have to travel long distances and who can afford to charge their car at home or in the office can actually buy and use electric cars. More and more, especially in rural areas, I come across people who openly say that their old trusty diesel (it works in cold winter and hot summer and no worries to travel - 600 miles on a single tank of fuel.) will only be taken from their dead hands by the stupid government and the greedy rich...
Most "cheap" EVs can't go even 170 miles in real road conditions without a problems. This is one of the reasons why, as an electric car technology enthusiast, I resisted the legacy car manufacturer ads (You know this nonsense: average driver's daily trips are short...! But, what about long trips and unreliable chargers!???). I didn't buy their really overpriced "cheap" short-range EVs...These "legacy" electric cars are definitely NOT "cheap or affordable" and in many cases they are not practical for longer journeys, especially if charging stations are rare and unreliable...
In Europe, one of the cheapest and easiest "petrol" cars to buy, the Dacia Sandero Stepway (Bare bones price tag -14590 € in Latvia) easily outperforms any electric car over a long distance trips, besides, it costs at least 2x cheaper than "cheap" EVs, and for this price difference you can buy a huge tank of gasoline, which is enough for all the fossil fuel car for its life, and no worries about "charger anxiety"...! Plus, this fossil fuel car is still pretty basic by today's standards and won't break the bank to repair. This also explains why the Dacia brand is becoming popular among practical, rational and frugal motorists in Europe...

How Regular Electrical Inspections Can Prevent Costly Repairs
When was the last time you had an electrician check your home's wiring? If you're like most homeowners, the answer is probably "I don’t remember" or "Never." But regular electrical inspections can save you from expensive repairs and even dangerous situations. At The Noble Home Pros, we know that staying on top of your electrical system can keep your home safe and your wallet happy.
The Hidden Dangers of Ignoring Electrical Inspections
Electrical systems are not something we often think about—until something goes wrong. But behind your walls, wires age, connections loosen, and electrical panels become outdated. Without regular inspections, small issues can turn into big (and costly) problems. Here are some risks you could be facing:
1. Fire Hazards
Faulty wiring is one of the leading causes of house fires. If wires are frayed or improperly installed, they can spark and cause fires that destroy homes and put lives at risk. An inspection can identify potential fire hazards before they become disasters.
2. Overloaded Circuits
Modern homes use more electricity than ever—think of all the TVs, gaming consoles, smart devices, and kitchen appliances we rely on daily. Older electrical panels may not be equipped to handle this demand, leading to overloaded circuits. This can cause frequent power outages or, worse, electrical fires.
3. Expensive Repairs
Ignoring minor electrical issues can lead to major breakdowns. A simple problem like a loose connection or a flickering light could be a sign of a much bigger issue lurking behind the walls. Fixing problems early through an inspection is always cheaper than waiting until something breaks.
4. Higher Energy Bills
Faulty wiring or outdated electrical systems can make your home less energy-efficient. That means your appliances and lights may be using more power than necessary, leading to higher utility bills. An inspection can identify inefficiencies and help you save money in the long run.
The Benefits of Regular Electrical Inspections
Scheduling an electrical inspection with The Noble Home Pros isn’t just about avoiding problems—it’s also about improving your home's efficiency, safety, and overall value. Here’s why it’s worth it:
1. Ensures Safety for Your Family
Above all else, your family's safety is the most important reason to get regular electrical inspections. A professional can spot potential hazards and fix them before they put your loved ones at risk.
2. Prepares Your Home for Upgrades
Thinking about getting a new appliance, home office setup, or electric vehicle charger? An inspection ensures your system can handle the extra load without causing problems.
3. Keeps You Up to Code
Building codes change over time, and if your home’s electrical system doesn’t meet current safety standards, you could be at risk. If you ever plan to sell your home, having an updated electrical system will make the process much smoother.
4. Saves You Money in the Long Run
Investing in regular inspections helps you catch minor issues before they turn into expensive repairs or replacements. Think of it as preventative maintenance—just like you would for your car or HVAC system.
Trust The Noble Home Pros for Your Electrical Needs
At The Noble Home Pros, we specialize in top-quality electrical services to keep your home running safely and efficiently. Whether you need a full inspection, panel upgrade, or simple wiring fixes, our expert electricians have you covered.

What You Need to Know Before Buying an Electric Scooter
Electric scooters are becoming increasingly popular in India as a convenient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective mode of transportation. They are perfect for short commutes, reducing dependence on petrol, and cutting down on pollution. If you're considering buying an electric scooter, it’s important to make an informed decision. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know before making your purchase, with insights on what makes Nextbrain Electric a great choice.
Consider This Before Buying an Electric Scooter
1. Understand Your Requirements
Before buying an electric scooter, determine your needs:
Commute Distance: How far do you travel daily? Choose a scooter with adequate battery range to cover your trips without frequent charging.
Road Conditions: Indian roads vary greatly. Look for a scooter with good suspension and durable tires if you encounter uneven or rough roads.
Weight Capacity: Ensure the scooter’s weight capacity is sufficient for your needs, especially if you plan to carry cargo or ride with a pillion.
Budget: Set a realistic budget that includes the scooter’s price, insurance, and maintenance costs.
2. Check the Battery and Range
The battery is the heart of an electric scooter. Here’s what to consider:
Battery Type: Most electric scooters in India use lithium-ion batteries due to their longevity and efficiency. However, lead-acid batteries are more affordable but heavier and slower to charge.
Range: Look for a scooter with a range that suits your daily travel. For urban commutes, a range of 50-70 km per charge is usually sufficient.
Charging Time: Ensure the charging time aligns with your schedule. Many scooters take 4-6 hours to fully charge.
3. Evaluate Speed and Performance
Speed and performance vary by model:
Top Speed: Most electric scooters in India offer a top speed of 25-60 km/h. If you need a faster scooter, ensure it’s roadworthy and complies with local regulations.
Motor Power: A motor with higher wattage provides better acceleration and can handle inclines more effectively. For city use, 250W-500W motors are typically sufficient.
4. Inspect the Build Quality and Design
Durability is key for Indian roads:
Material: Look for a sturdy frame made of steel or aluminum. These materials can withstand the wear and tear of daily use.
Suspension System: A good suspension ensures a comfortable ride, especially on bumpy roads.
Portability: If you need to carry your scooter or store it in tight spaces, opt for a foldable or lightweight model.
5. Safety Features
Safety should always be a priority:
Braking System: Look for scooters with efficient braking systems, such as disc brakes or regenerative braking.
Lights: Ensure the scooter has bright headlights, taillights, and turn indicators for visibility in low light conditions.
Tires: Opt for tubeless or air-filled tires with good grip to prevent skidding on wet or uneven surfaces.
6. Review Charging Infrastructure
Charging infrastructure is growing in India, but it’s still important to consider:
Home Charging: Most electric scooters come with chargers that can be plugged into standard sockets. Ensure you have a convenient spot to charge at home.
Public Charging Stations: Check if your city has adequate charging stations along your regular routes.
Removable Batteries: Scooters with removable batteries offer flexibility as you can charge the battery separately from the scooter.
7. Analyze Costs and Incentives
While electric scooters have lower running costs than petrol vehicles, there are upfront costs to consider:
Subsidies: Under the Indian government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme, you may be eligible for subsidies on certain models.
Maintenance: Electric scooters have fewer moving parts than traditional scooters, making them cheaper to maintain.
Insurance: Don’t forget to factor in insurance costs, which vary depending on the scooter’s price and specifications.
8. Test Ride and Reviews
Never buy a scooter without a test ride:
Comfort: Assess the seating and handlebar ergonomics to ensure they suit your height and posture.
Performance: Test the scooter’s acceleration, braking, and handling.
User Reviews: Read reviews from other buyers to understand the scooter’s real-world performance, reliability, and any potential issues.
9. Consider Brand Reputation and Support
A reputable brand ensures quality and after-sales support:
Warranty: Check the warranty period for the scooter and its battery.
Service Centers: Ensure the brand has service centers near your location for easy maintenance and repairs.
Spare Parts Availability
10. Lugging Capabilities
The lugging capability of an electric scooter is an important feature to keep in mind. This determines how well the scooter can handle additional weight, such as bags, groceries, or other belongings. Opt for a scooter with a higher weight capacity and a sturdy design to ensure it can carry extra loads without affecting its performance. Features like a wide deck, secure hooks for bags, and a powerful motor make it easier to manage the added weight. For regular commuters or riders who often carry items, a scooter with reliable lugging capabilities offers convenience and ease.
Conclusion
Buying an electric scooter in India requires careful consideration of factors like battery life, range, build quality, and safety features. By understanding your needs and researching the available options, you can find a scooter that perfectly suits your lifestyle. Nextbrain Electric offers reliable and high-performance scooters, making your transition to electric mobility seamless and enjoyable. Start your journey towards greener commuting today!
