a/n: guys he’s my favorite (besides shoto) soo here’s a special fic in his honor <33, i lowkey don’t like this but im trying to discipline myself when it comes to writing.

When Kaminari Denki made it to UA, he had a plan to become a heartthrob hero, not unlike Hawks.

His plan was completely thrown off the second he laid his eyes on you.

Rich and deep chocolate skin, brown eyes that nearly made it look black, and an all-white smile with the cutest tooth gems dotting your grin.

He was done for the second he walked in the room. He should’ve known then, but he didn’t.

He’d flirted with a lot of the girls in the class action once they had gotten to after the Sports Festival, but most just took it as jokes or rejected him, to which he calmly bowed out. No need to be an asshole about it, right?

As Jirou made fun of his quirk again, he laid his eyes on you once more. You were scribbling in your notebook, humming to the tune of what he assumed was a Bryson Tiller song, completely in your own little world.

He lost all sorts of common sense when it came to you. How couldn’t he, when you sat at your desk looking like you were the one that hung the moon in the sky?

“Hey, Y/N!”

Okay, he’d gotten your attention, what now? Oh lord, he’s an idiot. How is he supposed to do this? Your tooth gems catch the sunlight, making them gleam in the classroom, and he immediately hooks his eyes on them instead, so as to not come off as rude or creepy.

“Hey Kaminari, what’s up?” Oh my god he could stare at that smile for days. The coils of your hair makes him stare at them rather than look you in the eyes.

He holds his hand out. He mentally slaps himself stupid, because what was he thinking, just holding his hand out like that? Jirou could make fun of him for this all she wants and he wont even blame her, because what the hell?

He really loses all sense of self when he sees a pretty person, especially someone has gorgeous as you.

In response, you put your hand in his and marveled at how warm they were.

Three seconds pass by. Kaminari dies mentally.

He had just electrocuted Y/N L/N, the most beautiful person in existence, all because he can’t control himself or his quirk.

At lunch, he profusely apologizes to you, one because he knows your hair is important to you and if his quirk actually did anything bad to your hair, he’d put himself six feet under before you could.

“You’re honestly lucky my quirk prevents damage, but in all seriousness, it’s cool Kaminari. It was honestly kind of cute seeing you trip out like that.”

You have no idea what you’ve done, Cute? Cute?!?? You officially have Kaminari Denki wrapped around your finger.

They have the Training Camp. He’s stuck with Mr Aizawa for remedials, because he’s a dumbass and you can do no wrong. The villains attack, and you’re apart of the main fight. Your quirk, called Bounce Back, allows you to take damage, store the impact, and push it back out to deliver it back to the opponent. It was a perfect offensive quirk.

Until you, Bakugou, and Jirou get kidnapped by the league. You, because you were fighting Toga with Uraraka and Tsu, Bakugou for conversion reasons, and Jirou because of her scouting abilities and super hearing.

He goes with the team to get you back. He’d never forgive himself if he had the opportunity to do something and he didn’t.

Once they got the three of them out, he ran up to hug you, not caring who looked or who saw.

You hugged him back, just as eagerly and emotion full as he did. He felt whole, he felt complete again, and the feeling of you hugging him back with just as much warmth and intensity gives him hope.

They get dorms. It makes his crush a lot harder on him. For once, Jirou doesn’t laugh and actually helps him.

It was a regular night, a relatively warm one since summer had started. He knocked on your door, sparks literally flying from the tips of his fingers.

‘Do not electrocute them, this’ll be all for nothing if you can’t get it together.’

You open the door, and once he steps in, he’s hit by the smell of cocoa butter and hair products that smell distinctly like you.

“Okay so, Kami, what can I do for you?” You’re taking your hair out, as he can see, with half of your head still in mini-twists.

“Call me Denki?”

“Pffft-“ He feels blood rush to the tips of his ears. He’s already fucked up and he hasn’t even started the segway.

“‘Kay then, Denki, whatcha need?” He’s going to die. He will die here happily here.

You notice his hands are sparking. You coat your hands in a pastel yellow, a tell tale sign of your quirk, and you take the risky move of grabbing his hands.

He practically dies right then and there. You laugh out loud, pressing a kiss to his nose.

“You’re cute, yknow that Denki?”

The mention of his name brings him back to the present. He decides to just go for it instead of doing the whole plan he made with Jirou.

“Y/N, will you be my partner?”

“‘Course I will, I’ve been waiting for you to ask.”

It seems that at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, you’re the one with the electric touch, and not him.

Home at last. Allow me to formally introduce Mattie.

Lemme tell you about this beastie.

I need a sparky to have a squizz at her cuz practically nothing electronic in her works. Radio works. Dash lights work. Brake lights work. Headlights work.

That's all that works.

She's got no rear lights, no rear indicators, no hazards, no horn, her petrol gauge doesn't work, her electric fuel tank switch doesn't work, it was a bitch and a half switching her tanks on the highway because I had no warning that she was about to sputter and then she did and I had to grapple around under the seat unable to signal to anyone around me that she's a hazard because her hazards DO NOT WORK and then it took her three gruelling seconds to kick back in after I managed to switch tanks.

But she went 25 in a 65 to 70 in about 3 seconds, so that's cool. Almost gave me a fucken nosebleed, heh.

Her headliner's falling in on the driver's side, her cigarette lighter doesn't work but she reeks of cheap Marlboro, her antenna's snapped off, but hey, at least she's got an 8track. But her tiller's also turned wrong—the bitch sits sideways. She's got some give to it too, takes some wobble to make the steering catch. No power steering, no power brakes, she screams when you drive cuz the vent windows don't seal properly so you need to leave them cracked open, but when you do that you can hardly hear the person next to you over the wind roar. Her heater don't work, her dash lights are so fucken dim you can't even see them until it's pitch black outside and even then you can barely make out any of the readings, her driver's side door sticks and you gotta breech it with your shoulder to make it open, her emergency brake only engages if you kick the fucken thing like a mule, her dome light don't work, and her headlights are so dim that the highbeams are the only thing what come close to normal brightness headlights.

But her engine purrs heavenly, and she's got good bones, and I love her. I love her for all the work I get to put into her. I love her for everything wrong with her that I get to fix.

Fifty-six years ago tomorrow, my father went to Vietnam. And fifty-six years ago, this car was built. Hey everyone! Learned Mortality Art Thread time!

Session #2, aka Night 1. Spoilers ahead, duh~

If you haven't seen the episode yet, check it out here!

And without further ado, let's get started.

First things first, the "wolf" Frostbitten who are encountered first by Larry and Elessar out front of Eso-Tiller. While not the first monster I created for this series, they are the first one I drew, so they have a special place in my heart ^-^

The main details on these that stick out to me are the way this design forced me to learn how to draw ice, particularly transparency when it comes to forms inside of ice. The darkened alt set a precident for future arts where I wanted to make a lot more alt tokens in this series to better support different encounters.

Next up, the main "antagonist" of the episode, $5 Steak. Based on the Bliss n Eso song of the same name, Steak is an electricity hungry predator who slowly builds up power like a capacitor. It attacked the generator room in this episode.

Steak has been my planned "first encounter" for this series, and marks the end point of any possible linearity to be seen in Learned Mortality.

I also drew an alt for full charge on a whim. I love how it turned out.

The main problem with having a narrowboat adventure is that you can't document it as it's going on, because all electronic devices need to be kept in a safe (inaccessible) place so they won't accidentally be dropped in the canal/river.

(We've already lost one phone, one powerbank and one pair of prescription glasses to the water, as they fell out of pockets and even off my face. Hopefully that lesson is learned.)

The week before last, after navigating all the way down the river Nene and the Middle Levels from Milton Keynes to Outwell, we were stationary. We had been going around a bend in the river and the tiller had come off. Fortunately we managed to get ropes out and moor up where we were. We then waited for three days for an engineer to come out to us. He was like 'well, I can do you a quick fix which is good enough to get you to a boatyard, but it won't be good enough for permanent use.' So he did that and we thanked him.

Then we cancelled the painting dock that we had been heading for, that we would not now be able to reach in time. They said 'Oh, I'm sorry to hear your news, but you can get it fixed and then re-book, no problem.' Which was great.

So we turned the boat around (very blessed to have had this happen within winching distance of a winding hole,) and headed a day's journey back upstream to Fox's boatyard in March. They took us in, said, "Yeah, we can fix that tomorrow," and then did fix it by 9.30 am the very next day.

We thought 'hurray! We'll re-book the painting dock and we can get there by Monday next week, with one week of DH's pre-booked holiday still to go and not too much time lost.'

So we phoned the painting dock to re-book and they said, 'Oh yeah, we're not doing that any more. Sorry.'

By this time we'd been travelling 6 hours a day for a month to try to get to this damn dock (a place which was covered so you could paint in the rain, there was access to both sides of the boat at once, and electricity on tap for power tools.) We had been two days travel away from the plan going like clockwork, and now we had nothing, and had moved the boat all this way for nothing.

We loudly expressed this to anyone who was listening. Which happened to be the guys from Fox's boatyard who had been fixing the tiller. They said "We have a painting dock, you know. I mean it doesn't have cover, so you'll have to stop when it rains, and you have to turn the boat around to get to the other side, but..."

We said, "Taken! Thanks!"

And now we are moored up at Fox's boatyard for the month, and we've spent a full week getting the paint off the roof. It is so thick it had to be scraped off with an angle-grinder, (while working in 30C heat) and it really needs a final sanding before we start to put paint back on it.

But we're due thunderstorms today, so last night we put a coat of rust-proofing oil on it, which should be dry by now, and we'll pick up with sanding the gutters and then the sides tomorrow when the weather should allow it again.

Amazing progress, considering the pit of despair we were in on Friday, and massive recommendations for Fox's boatyard and marina in March, who continue to be immensely friendly and helpful.

FLEKKERØY is named for the southern Norwegian island from which she originally operated. She’s shown here in 1940 in an image taken from the deck of a Swedish freighter.

FLEKKERØY Facts

FLEKKERØY is a double-ended pilot cutter built in 1936 in Høllen, Norway. Her keel, stem, and sternpost are of white oak. Her 5″ (sided) frame futtocks are of Norwegian pine, which makes each double-sawn frame 10″ wide; they are spaced about 20″ on center. The planking is 2″ white oak fastened with trunnels measuring 1¼" in diameter. The trunnels have conical heads, go all the way through the frames, and are split and wedged on the inside. The deckbeams are of roughly 6″ × 6″ pine and rest on 3″ × 8″ sheer clamps, also of pine. The deck planking is 2″ pine. The deckhouse, stanchions, covering boards, and caprail are of white oak.

The boat measures 40′8″ on deck, and is about 57' overall if you count the spars. Her beam is 15′2″ and draft is 6'. Her volume is 17.04 GRT, and she displaces 55,000 lbs. She is rigged as a gaff cutter with a mast measuring 53′ from the waterline, and a retractable bowsprit. Her sail area of 1,345 sq ft is divided into four sails: a mainsail of 610 sq ft, a staysail of 245 sq ft, a jib of 335 sq ft, and a topsail 155 sq ft. We also have two smaller jibs and one bigger one.

For no-wind conditions, she is equipped with a British Leyland 113-hp six-cylinder diesel engine, with a 4:1 PRM gearbox and a 32″ Variprop feathering propeller. She has no outside ballast, so ballast consists of 9,000 lbs of lead ingots placed in the bilges. The rudder is of white oak and is hung outside on the sternpost and steered with a tiller. She has a Windpilot servo-pendulum windvane selfsteering system. The anchor windlass is a manual two-speed double-action Simpson-Lawrence with 300′ of ½″ chain and an 88-lb Rocna anchor as the main bower. There are no other winches onboard.

For heat we have a Kabola diesel pot burner of 4.6W, and a Webasto diesel cabin heater of 5kW.

Lighting consists of a mix of kerosene and electric lamps. Cooking is done on an Eno propane stove with two burners and an oven. The Kabola also has a cooking top. We have a cooler with electric refrigeration, but when the water is cold, the bilges work just as well. The tankage is 135 gallons of fuel and the same amount of fresh water. Communications are made via mail (the one with stamps), VHF radio, HF radio, and the occasional WiFi connection.

I bought a new electric cultivator/tiller from a local liquidation store and I love itttt

I just used it to convert a pile of clumpy dirt into a nice layer of level, soft soil :)

It does jam up kinda easy and it's not super powerful, but nonetheless it's SUCH a huge help, and I know it's going to be great to have to help prep the garden beds next spring :3
